Shambles. Booked for Sunday lunch at 12:00, admittedly we were a tad late arriving at 10 past, but staff arrived to unlock the pub shortly after we turned up! After being sat down while the lights were turned on and the pub was opening, we were served drinks and told that in fact the chef was busy doing other jobs, and no food would be served until 1:30 at the earliest. There was a single poor girl working who had been stitched up with no other staff on site to help her out. She was very polite and handled the situation to the best of her abilities, but why advertise 12-5 Sunday lunch when doors open at 12:15 and chef arrives at 1:30! At least we were told once he arrives the food shouldn’t take long, as it’s all cooked earlier in the week and simply reheated!!!! I’m not usually one to leave a review, but our weekend to Kegworth has been completely let down as we drive home this afternoon, stopping for a McDonald’s to fill our stomachs!

Would definitely recommend visiting when in the area, I’ve been a handful of times and everything has been very well priced. Sunday lunch was 2 courses for £18 and was really good! Portions were very generous and food was fresh and piping hot. Took a little while for the food to come out so I do not recommend if you are in a time crunch

We had booked weeks ahead as we were on a narrow boat on the river. Tried twice to contact in the afternoon of the day we were going without success. The third time we were told that there was no food as the chef wasn’t coming in. Even though we had given a contact number they never thought to ring us. Talked to some fellow travellers who said it was a common occurrence. Very poor service.

Having driven up from Kent for motor racing at Donington, then arriving to then find that the hotel restaurant was closed that evening, I chanced upon the Anchor as probably the nearest place advertising food, only to then find on arrival at 5.30pm that they stopped serving at 4pm! About to resign myself to a bag of chips from the local chippy and with my look of hunger and disappointment perhaps evident, I was then delighted with an offer to rustle up a steak and ale pie with mash and veg, which hit the spot exactly! Fantastic customer service; the food was excellent, plentiful and good value, aided by a couple of well kept pints of Landlord. Clearly a locals pub, as everyone seemed to know each other, it had a good atmosphere and, were I to live in the area, I think it would likely become my local!

Firstly, important to say this is being written late August 2023. Things can change quickly in the pub trade! Great to see this traditional pub still trading and offering food. I'm told (but haven't first hand experience) that Sunday lunches here are superb and the pub is busy. Meals are also served evenings. I visited a Thursday afternoon for a swift pint. Only 2 other customers who soon left so the pub was very quiet indeed lacking atmosphere. However I was made very welcome by the bar guy and my pint of real ale was good value and nice tasting. Front door was open, music playing but 2 signs in same front window - one stating open the other closed! I'd passed by a previous Tuesday when the pub was still closed at 3pm. When I asked about opening times the answer was vague - basically variable between about noon and 2pm weekdays. In my view sticking to published opening times is an absolute must to avoid customer dissatisfaction. It will build regular trade in the long term. To conclude I wish the owner and staff well. They have a nice village pub which deserves to succeed but need to consider the above.

Nice pub…. So slow. Don’t be in a rush! This is a nice pub but on each occasion I’ve come they insist on only having one person front of house. The poor girl has to do everything, take food orders, serve drinks, table service and food runs. The net effect is a 15 min wait to get served at the bar alone and customers at the table ignored. One lady had her food served, and was told to order another drink at the bar. Her food sat for 15 minutes while her family had finished theirs by the time she got back, it was stone cold. This place could be great, but I’m not waiting that long to get served. Really need more staff on a Sunday.

Booked table on line 14/4/2023 for 3 of us at 1230 … received text then e-mail assuring us our reservation was being processed. We drove 30 miles from home to Kegworth to collect our grand-daughter who we were taking out for lunch. At midday I thought I’d confirm our booking so I phoned … “no, we’ve no record of that, sorry, can’t do it now. The kitchen’s closed anyway”. Very disappointing, wasted 60 mile trip, neither us nor my family nor their friends in Kegworth will bother again … there are lots of better pubs in the area anyway.

This is a child friendly pub and had a fun event on when we arrived. We needed food after being caught in the heavy rain and they graciously offered us a reduced menu, mid-afternoon. When I say 'this is the best burger I've ever eaten' I don't say this lightly. The flavour, the juicy meat and the sides were all perfect. 2 for £20, I was mind blown. My daughter said the same, unbelievable food tucked in a corner of a village. Wow! Highly reccommend this venue. I'll come back with the wife and kids for a full meal without a doubt! Thank you for hosting us, The Anchor.

Was visiting the area for work and having had a very disappointing meal/experience at the hotel we were staying at we found this place by chance and I’m so glad we did. We ended up eating here on more than 10 occasions in the three weeks we were in town. The menu has plenty of variety and the staff were very welcoming. The best part was because everything is cooked from scratch the chef was super accommodating of food allergies - as someone with multiple food allergies I often find it challenging to get variety but I had so many different dishes in the times we visited (including some made specially not on the menu). I would absolutely recommend this place for a great value hearty meal and certainly hope to visit again if I’m in the area!

Don’t be fooled or put off… The young lady behind the bar was friendly and engaging. A few locals drinking in the bar. Ordered a pint of Guinness, which was excellent. There is a very comprehensive menu, and a selection of really different and interesting “Specials”. We chose Chicken breast stuffed with Feta and spinach, and the Seafood Mornay. This is just a country pub, definitely not a gastro pub as the website suggests. I picked it because there was a good selection of vegetarian options so booked through the website and received a confirmation within about 15 minutes. However, upon arrival the menu was completely different with no vegetarian options that I could see. The tables were left dirty & uncleared. Service was very slow, we waited over an hour for food to be served. My food was luke warm & being served on cold plates, went very cold quickly. Such a shame really as the village is quite interesting with the river, canal & barges.

We received a lovely welcome from the owner and the young team supporting him, staff were very enthusiastic but need a bit of time to develop their knowledge and rhythm waiting on tables of food while the pub is busy. I then asked for drinks and was told someone would come out straight away. We had to wait 30 mins for drink to be ordered and a further 10 mins for the drinks to be given. When we got our drinks the pepsi was flat and not nice and the beer was in the incorrect glass as apparently a shandy does not work in a glass. Looks are good but the services and speed is very poor. Bit loud and brash with no substance. The staff were shouting, don't know weather this was due to the masks or the volume of the music either way totally spoilt any atmosphere for a sit down meal. The table's were not cleaned in between customers. The menu was vast and varied and to start off we thought it was going to be a nice meal out. The landlord was saying all the right things, telling us about all the covid precautions put in place, the menu looked good. So we placed our order. Our burgers were mixed up and the bins were soggy. Got the potential to be a nice place to eat, just needs a little fine tuning. They also offer a delivery service or a pickup similar to click and collect. We are are more cauatious then most as I have to provide care to two vulnerable family members so won't be going back. But will try the pub again once the pandemic has passed.

We thought we would try this pub for the first time after getting a Mail Drop with a money off mains offer. We arrived at the pub which was lovely inside, both decor and feel. We had looked at the menu in advance so ordered straight away to be told the menu on the website wasn’t the current menu, so we had to rethink. We were then told there were no fries. So we ordered something else. After about 15mins someone came over to tell us there was no halloumi (side) and asked if we wanted something else or a refund. When the food arrived, the donner kebab I had ordered was awful! There was no tomato, red pepper and cucumber or sour cream style sauce as per the menu and there were about 6 tiny pieces of meat. I went to the bar to ask for the bits of my dish which were missing, to which I was asked if I wanted a side salad, I said no, I just wanted what I had ordered. I was then brought a side salad. Definitely won’t be back for food as this was really disappointing! Sent feedback about misspelling to Marstons and got rubbish stock reply.
