The Old Crown Inn in North West Leicestershire

Visited today for first time young lady behind the bar was lovely. Ordered 2 Sunday lunches of beef. My husband asked do you have horse radish no problem at all we do. When food arrived staff then said sorry we do not have any was used up yesterday at wedding. We let that go as can happen but the meat was awful not sure how this had been cooked but not a roast. Not able to cut it or chew it full of fat worse meat I have had. Not what I would call a Sunday lunch. We are not ones to complain but in all honestly whole meal except roast potatoes and Yorkshire wish I had gone home and cooked. We did complain and young lady behind bar kept apologising. It was not her fault as I kept telling her. Manager was not very accommodating but had few sarcastic comments on us leaving. Sad but defo will not recommend or return.

Absolutely Horrible Do Not go here please the globe is much better I really wouldn’t recommend. The window was smashed and our hotel room was horrific

A wonderful meal for the four of us, steaks were tender and delicious and cooked to perfection by the chef Frank , starters were succulent and his jam roly poly and custard were out of this world We will certainly return again in the near future Thanks for a very memorable evening

Visited a few times before but hadn’t eaten in the restaurant… heard that the Sunday Roast here is superb so booked for 6 ! Staff were welcoming friendly and helpful ! Food was brought out in good time and well presented and tasted delicious! We all left nicely full up and very impressed with the whole visit ! Our Thanks to the Chef ( who popped out to ask if all was well !) to the bar and waiting staff !

My partner and I went for Sunday lunch, one word, 'Wow", the best Sunday roast I've had in a long time, everything was freshly cooked and tasted amazing, the staff were really friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended we will definitely be back, can't wait

Went for lunch today with my partner and doggy. One word WOW! The fresh home cooked roast was amazing and one of the best Sunday lunches I've had in a very long time, if you haven't been make sure you do, you won't regret it, the staff were all really friendly and welcoming, even made a fuss of our little old man doggy!.. looking forward to coming back next week, we've found our "go to" for Sunday lunch, best in the area!

Nice pub music on some weekends Caravan site next door

Stayed in one of the rooms. Worst place Ive ever stayed in my life. Dirty, shower doesnt work, window has no handle & cant be closed. Junk & rubbish lying around everywhere. Feels like you are staying at a crack house. Better to sleep in the car. They charged me £120 for 2 nights up front. You cant contact them because the phone number is wrong. Didnt go to the pub so cant comment on that. Rooms are the very worst.

If you are in the area, you HAVE TO visit this place. Don't judge an old book by its cover. Food was gorgeous, better than what we expected even after reading the great reviews before hand. Lovely staff, very attentive & kind. Great for young children as they have a giant connect 4, skittles, large "Jenga" type blocks ... My two were chuffed to bits whilst we waited for our tea. It's a must if you're around and about Measham/twycross area, head straight to snarestone. Lovely, thank you all @oldcrowninn

Three of us visited for the first time tonight and we all had a really lovely meal, thanks. My husband had beer battered fish and chips and I had steak, skin on fries and added a side of peppercorn sauce. My son had a handmade margarita pizza. Our meals were all prepared reasonably quickly and it was clear that a lot of care was taken in sourcing quality ingredients and balancing flavours so that the end meal both looked and tasted great. We would have chosen to stay for a pudding too, however, there was only ice-cream or Eton mess available so we opted not to. I found it very surprising that, given the quality of the food that we did have, the reasonable prices and the five star food hygiene rating on the door, that there were not more people eating. It seems that with some attention to detail with the surroundings, (the carpet in the restaurant needs a good wash and the garden is in need of some clutter tidying and a little extra maintenance) despite it's remote location, this pub should be packed. There's an amazing outdoor space with a lovely big kids play area. We will definitely be returning with the rest of our family.

A nice place out in the country to enjoy a nice pint with friendly staff

Very friendly and delicious food. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but the food was really excellent quality in the restaurant. The waitress/barmaid was really friendly and lovely. They were dog friendly and we shall definitely visit again.

Great food, great prices, ample parking, beer garden and pool table. Definitely worth a visit.

Great quiz night on a Wednesday night

Had a lovely Sunday dinner, the food was excellent, the staff were so polite and the service was great. We also were able to add a message to my mums dessert as it was her wedding anniversary. Overall an amazing experience!!!

A townies pub in the countryside. Always a friendly welcome and a decent selection of drinks. Carpark is huge and the garden is excellent when it's a warm day.

We called in this evening as we are staying the night next door at the campsite. Although not a huge menu this is actually good as to large can be overwhelming. I had small fish and chips and my husband had carbonara. Both came in good time were fresh, tasty and of good quality. Definitely worth the money. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. A lovely find on a wet evening.

When here with 20 others for Sunday dinner, great service and lovely place, food was fantastic and did not hear anyone complain. Would go again anytime.

Have always loved this pub. Brilliant gardens and set in beautiful village next to the canal and Nice Park for kids with swings and things to do. Also slides in garden. Nicely laid out inside too with lounge and bar great place nice staff

First time visitor for a carvery Sunday lunch. A dog friendly pub . Really impressed by the food, the beef was really tender and the selection of vegetables very interesting; fantastic mash, roast potatoes carrots and parsnips , cheese cauliflower and more. Pudding was artfully presented and very pleasant too.

Great place, lovely atmosphere, the band The Mercians were awesome. Such a great night out. The beer garden is brilliant too.

First time here in a long time. New chef and food was great. All waiting staff really friendly too. We will definitely be back. Had a carvery this visit so want to try off their main menu. Plenty of parking. Large gardens.

Food was really nice and relatively cheap. Burger was by far the best Iv had for a long while, staff were busy on the day dealing with a function. People that were in the bar were nice enough felt like a very clicky place.

The decor looks a little tired and probably needs a little TLC. The language of some locals was a little colourful - we had small children with us but this wasn’t the staffs fault. The food was great, portions were generous and staff were very friendly. Reasonably priced. Would recommend and go back.

Lovley carvery we would highly recommend the vegetables were fresh and the turkey very tender . The staff were very friendly.

Just stopped by for a drink, a pub from my childhood 50 years in the past ,glad to see some of the original fittings still here. It would be nice to see the big old fireplace opened up again. Definitely coming back soon.

Just stopped for one on our way past. Very sunny day with barely any shade in the beer garden. One customer walked their dog right over to us and stood there while it had a wee right next to our table then walked off without a word. A little strange and rude. Won't be going again.

We visited both the Crown and bens kitchen! Bens kitchen was fantastic - we highly suggest it for a evening out! Food was 'pub classics' done the way you imagine them in dreams! The steak was phenomenal and the chunky chips are a must have!!! Staff were fantastic and never left us wanting!!! We will definitely be coming back!

Delicious 😋 meal shared with family to celebrate our nephews 30th birthday. Staff helpful. Food hot and tasty. Ordering ahead of time helped make service go smoothly.

Was a disappointment after being recommended by a friend. We waited more than 40 minutes for our starter. The main was also luke warm. I also heard several other diners complaining that their food was cold or they had been waiting a long time. it was also the first time I could recall having to pay separate bills for drinks and food. that should be a business arrangement between the two parties and should not impact the customers. Having said that, I did enjoy my roast lamb. unfortunately, we will not be going back.

Just been and had a pork belly Sunday dinner miss had the gammon and I wanna say it was absolutely fantastic also had Ferrero rocha cheese cake it was also spot on I'd recommend this place to anyone 👌

What an amazing menu, really pushing the boundaries and a far cry your local fayre and square. This isn't just any old pub grub!! Brilliant work from Ben and the team. Keep up the great work!

Visited Bens Kitchen for a very nice Sunday lunch

Absolutely amazing foot tasting experience, every single dish on Ben's tasting menu was delicious. Every mouthful brought a huge grin to our faces, I couldn't recommend Ben's kitchen highly enough. Also, there was a singer present whist eating which was a new experience and one that I'd enjoy again, singer was brilliant and interacted lovely with all of us dining. A+++

Been to the old crown twice before food and beer was very good . BUT been in Bens kitchen tonight ……. The food was ok THE SERVICE WAS SHOCKING! WE HAD TO WAIT FOR AN HOUR FOR OUR FOOD , AND TO TOP IT OFF THE 2 PINTS OF BEAR WE HAD WAS 50p DEARER THAN IT WAS LAST NIGHT !!! WONT BE GOING AGAIN

Love the set up. Nice place to have a meal with family and friends! Friendly atmosphere.

We visited with the extended family and sat in the lovely big pub garden which also has a play area that kept the children happy. The food was good and the staff friendly and helpful too.

The food was amazing. We had the small appetite plate for Sunday lunch. It was plenty big enough. My starter the duck parfait was lovely. The only negative was they forgot to bring cauliflower cheese and delphonaise potatoes to our table. We was a big party so it was us 4 who sat in middle of long table who missed out. They did bring some more broccoli with cheese sauce it wasn't cooked enough for me though. The ratatouie was the best I've ever tasted. It was lovely to get red cabbage as I love this. We will definitely be back

We have just been to The Old Crown the best Gluten free fish and chips I have ever had. A very simple dish but one not everyone gets right. Needless to say we'll be back for something a little more exotic from the lovely menu. Staff are lovely 😍 Highly recommend 👌

Only Given it 4 stars as just went to a car show there . Looked a really nice pub . Clean and tidy . Staff were polite . Which is all you ask for . Will have to go back there for some food .

Lovely food and very good service. Perfectly-cooked scallops which I don't see very often. One of the best restaurants in the area.

2 out of the four of us got food poisoning, we both chose the “homemade” burgers and have both been up all night being violently I’ll! Service is non existent as you have to serve yourself. And We used the paper menus to eat our chicken wings off of as no plates or extra serviettes were offered, shame as was recommended as a good place. Maybe the staff have changed, but after a night like last don’t think you’ll see me or any of my mates there again. 🤢

Really top quality food and service when myself and my friend called in for a meal, The Steaks were so so good, My Rib eye came out oh so perfectly cooked just how i like a steak, and presented so well, The chips, both skin on and sweet potato fries were so damn good and tasty along with the diane sauce.. whooo so tasty.. Its a shame i live just over 90 mins away otherwise id be back for more, All i can say is keep up the great food and service.. Best wishes and good luck for the future, Dave & John..

Lovely food, really helpful staff

Simply lovely! Working in the area with a colleague and we stumbled upon - I think it was called The Globe. However, as it was a Thursday, they'd stopped serving food after 8pm but the lady behind the bar whispered that we should try The Old Crown! We did, and what a good recommendation it was. Lovely spacious restaurant, (Ben's Kitchen I think it was called) absolutely lovely food - that pie!! And a special mention about the staff. They were all so lovely! The two young brown haired ladies behind the bar, and the blonde haired lady who served our food!! Many thanks and well done! 🏆

Was driving around looking for somewhere to call in n have a bite to eat, as not from the area.. And came across this Gem.. Absolutely beautifully cooked food and spot on pint of Landlord.. Staff delightful and very pleasant. Bar and restaurant.. (Ben's Kitchen) 10/10.. Will be back again in the future 100%

Good meal. Vegetables took awhile to turn up. Service abit hapazard, very young staff need better training. Right fiasco over the deserts, said we hadn't ordered custard, cream etc when ordering before hand, my niece wasn't asked about it. Tbh its natural when bringing out deserts to ask what we want with them. Had to wait awhile till cream etc turned up.. Spoilt the meal. Person in charge said they'd talk to the staff about it, whoopee, deleting desert charge would have been better.

A little quiet but it was midweek and Leicester City were playing at home. The meal at Ben's Kitchen was lovely with generous portions. Ben was the perfect host.

Excellent all round, presentation and quality of food was delicious, restaurant had a nice atmosphere and customer service was spot on. We will be back, thank you 🤩

Decent food from the Ben's Kitchen Greek menu. Meze starter ok but only 2 thin slices of French bread each. My Lamb had a nice texture but not much taste. Cheesecake was good. Very limited choice of no or lo alcohol drinks. Restaurant was cold and Toilets dingy. Considerable room for improvement

What an absolute delight. Went here to (Ben's Kitchen) for the first time this afternoon for food & drink. The food was amazing. I had a Sunday roast of beef rump and gammon with 3 different types of potato, beautiful crispy Yorkshire, cabbage and peas. Roast carrots and parsnips, stuffing. Cooked to perfection. Topped off with excellent gravy and to top it all, it was served beautifully and was really hot. A rare treat The other member of my party (a self confessed burger expert) had their homemade burger and was suitably impressed. Again served beautifully and cooked to perfection. We followed up with desserts. Mine was Baklava with homemade pistachio ice-cream, raspberry coulis and lovely little purple flowers. The other equally delicious dessert was chocolate fudge cheesecake with ice-cream. This also looked and tasted exquisite. All the staff were very welcoming and considerate and the ambience was unusually pleasant. I do hope they keep this standard up. Just a minor note if any staff read this, please serve a spoon and fork with dessert as standard and not just a spoon. Prices are spot on especially for such good quality.

Had been to see trees recently planted in the nearby national forest on a cold foggy December Sunday. Just what we needed- a Great rural pub with better food and service
