The Village Restaurant & Coffee Bar in Cheshire West and Chester

There are mixed reviews about this restaurant, but l can only speak from personal experience after a recent visit. Firstly, what a warm and friendly welcome from the curtious and polite staff! Seated quickly, dog friendly, which was a bonus, and a bowl of water for the dog before the menu was even handed to us. Wonderful selection on the varied menu to suit all tastes, including vegan options. I opted for the vegetarian all day breakfast, which was extremely enjoyable, with good portion size, and piping hot. My wife opted for the Thai chicken curry which she also enjoyed. Great selection of hot and cold beverages, plus a range of sweets on offer. Delightful ambience within the restaurant, nicely furnished and very clean. Option of both indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the best service we have come across in a restaurant for a long time. The staff were extremely well trained, polite, helpful and jovial. Not once were we addressed as 'Guys', which makes a pleasant change in 2024!!! This was only a quick stopover on route home south from the Lake District. We also enjoyed a walk around the shopping village afterwards.

Service was okay and girls were lovely and helpfull.Slightly below average breakfast,eggs rubbery and the toast well .. you could walk on it! Clean place all said and again the staff were friendly and helpfull.A little expensive at 29.90 for 2x breakfasts with a pot of tea.

Upon arrival I was greeted by a young girl and welcomed and was given my choice to sit at the bar table or other seating which i chose the bar seating as I was drenched from the rain but very well done amazing service straight away 👏 😊 I didn't have any food as im unable to eat solid but had a nice cup of tea

Bellow average, generic frozen food, Steak was cooked very badly. Will avoid in future, no chunky chips available so had fries but they were soggy and hardly cooked. Peas looked like they were cooked the previous day… Expected better.

Food made me very ill the next day, not suitable to celiac or gluten free

Overpriced lunch menu. Had fish finger butty which was supposed to be served on sourdough bread but was shop bought white sliced bread. It was small and served with a poor side salad. Tuna mayo sourdough sounded good on paper but again looked like something you would buy for 99p in Aldi. Overall poor food and well overpriced. Will not recommend this place to anyone.

Delicious breakfast and amazing drinks, lots of options for breakfast and lunch. And also the staffs are so friendly. Thanks a lot.

Food good , service not good asked for pork, given gammon. Ordered bitter shandy given larger. Mentioned on leaving and gentleman said it was bitter shandy , I explained that it came out if a bottle labelled biere blonde and no lemonade, he argued that it was bitter. RUDE)He then followed us out shouting accross the car park come back I will give you your money back,embarrassing to say the least. To top it all a dog sitting on a chair on the corner table.Have been coming here for years, would think twice before coming back.

The manager with glasses and dark hair was very rude, when I asked for a table for 2 ,he picked up a menu without saying anything or greeting us,walked Infront of us to a table,I then said could I sit over ther near the window. Again he swiped the menu off the table without speaking or looking at me and walked to another table. I decided to leave at that point and never go back, usually there nice staff but today was very rude

went today asked what gluten free cakes was available carrot cake and a scone shown in a sealed bag !! went for carrot cake order 2 pieces of gluten free cake £5.50 each to be served FROZEN cake will not be going back again

The village catered our wedding day at Cheshire woodland weddings and we also enjoyed a well earned breakfast the morning after in their restaurant. Food was lovely and the perfect addition to our wedding day! We had a BBQ buffet and hog roast in the evening, both gorgeous and enjoyed by all the guests! The staff on the day were so lovely and helpful and even boxed up the left overs for us to enjoy afterwards! The restaurant itself is a lovely cosy atmosphere and very welcoming and you can't ask for more than a breakfast like that the morning after such a busy day! ❤️🍳

Service was terrible, the waitress rushing us to finish our meals and plonking down the ice creams. Sunday carvery was ok but not a huge selection and over priced compared to local pubs. The children's meals were a joke, pizza is two small squares - the kids were still hungry and we had to buy another meal elsewhere!

Had a last minute breakfast which was pretty good. Was near the end of the breakfast time but food was still fresh. Good place to eat. Will visit again.

Hidden Gem! Really wasn't expecting the place to be as nice as it was! Food was amazing, not just microwaved/frozen junk. Came out quickly and servers were all lovely.

Average. The burger looked nice and was ok tasting. Unfortunately there wasn’t any of the delicious honey roasted carrots or red cabbage, otherwise I would have had the roast. The loaded fries weren’t nice just would not recommend. The home cooked chips on the burger however were very nice. Went two weekends ago and the food was much nicer than this time round

The food was excellent, the carvery’s are always superb. always lovely there, great food, amenities, have a good laugh with carvery cutter (one of the few carvery’s where they don’t aim to get 10,000 slice out of everything and give you good amount. Love that. We go quite often as live round the corner and 90% of the staff are always superb except our initial server this time who was just dam right rude, direct and obv on a bad day. That aside that was a one off, so I’m not holding my experience against them. Ordered food off main menu as well, and it’s ok, huge sandwiches, and main body of menu is pretty good.

Came here a few years ago and had fond memories so decided to come back whilst in the area. Wow. Gone downhill is an understatement. Pretty much what everybody else has said... poor quality foe the price. Reformed turkey, dry beef, Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard it had clearly been there so long. The carrots weren't even peeled which is just lazy! Considering there are so many alternatives in the area I would give this a wide berth.

Avoid if you can. Went on Saturday and I’ve had really bad food poisoning

It does what it needs to. No frills dining whilst you are at Blakemere. Nice staff. Food is ok and priced well.

Tried for a mid morning snack.... Weak coffee. No cakes. Only food is an expensive all you can eat breakfast that just encourages gluttony

Served with 3 stale toasted teacakes of which they only didn't charge for 1 Not Great so won't be going back or recommending!!

Just loved the food and service, particularly from Preeti who couldnt have been more helpful. Definately be back for the Sunday Roasts!!

Service was ok but not great, and the breakfast was below average at best. Eggs wernt fresh and were rubber like, the black pudding was so overcooked it was differcult to cut with the knife. I shan't be going back.

Ordered bacon barm, got bacon on extra thin sliced doughy bread spread thickly with an awful alternative to butter. Manager dismissed the complaint and walked off. Charged full amount. Won’t be going back!

Went there on the TUESDAY 26th August to eat looked at the outside menu, picked up some tomato ketchup,brown sauce, mayo,salt & pepper placed them on the end table, then the manager came out so I asked him if we could eat at this table he said yes but you will have to order at the bar, then I saw the manager moving the condiments off the table, so I said why are you moving them? his reply was you are stealing them, took me a minute to take in what he said, so i picked up the sauces, took them inside & gave them to a waitress, also told her i was not stealing them, then the manager came back & said it was a miss understanding, by this time I was nearly in tears,so I asked him who has accused me of stealing, his reply was the young girl sitting by the bar area, i have since been told the young girl is the owners daughter, i was shocked how he could just take her word for it, as i had already asked for the table before the manager accused me of stealing, it totally ruined our day,on the way out i went to the information centre to get the owners details they coulden't give me them, so i left my name & 2 numbers, its friday 1st september still not heard from the owner.

The only positive thing was the treatment of the waitresses, the food was worth nothing at all, just like frozen food and very very basic quality.

Lovely serving staff and nice enough venue, but... the food was overpriced for the low quality fair provided. The "barbecue chicken" on the platter was reheated and tasteless, the flatbreads so crispy they snapped, and all a bit bland! The potato wedges had black skins on the inside (reheated multiple times?) and the rice with the tikka masala was served on a plate on top of a napkin. Weird! Apparently, the tuna sandwich was okay. 😁 Won't be back... too many good alternatives nearby for similar prices.

It was a bit of a mixed bag! My husband had fish, chips and mushy peas which he said was "very good". However my meal was roast of the day. Waiting on staff didn't know which roast meat! When it arrived the turkey was thick cut, over cooked and dry. The roast potatoes were burnt. I requested some cranberry sauce and was told they had none. I asked if they had apple sauce. When it arrived it was cranberry sauce! My sister in law had steak pie. The pastry was undercooked and she sent back. The second pie arrived which was still slightly undercooked and soggy. There was fresh hot veg on the plate but the chips were cold so we wondered if the original chips had been reserved? We will not be eating there again.

We had the fish and chips and the stake pie. For the price it was tearable. Chips cold and really tasted funny. The pie was microwaved soggy mush with carrots that looked like they had been dug out a bin.

Lovely welcome from a very professional & polite gentleman. The rest of the waiting staff hovered, watching, almost waiting to swoop in & they did as soon as my son put his knife & fork down, his plate was taken...we were still eating & he hadn't finished. I think they were trying to look busy, but it was uncomfortable being 'watched' & we felt rushed. The food was lovely though, the best cauliflower cheese I've ever had!

Food was pricey don't think they use a proper chef.was charged £1.50 for a small round of bread. After spending £13.50 for chips fish and peas.

We only had a cake and drink but the food menu looked fine.

Slow service. Waited too long for food. I had the mushroom risotto which was awful. 2 of our party waited a good 15 minutes for their food, when it eventually came the presentation left a lot to be desired.

Had a lovely lunch and great tasting coffee. Staff were fantastic and some of the best I've experienced for serving someone with allergies. Great menu options from light bites, sandwiches, to steaks, fish and curry. It wasn't too expensive. It was quite busy for early lunchtime but the atmosphere was nice it didn't feel busy and plenty of staff were working.

We stumbled on this place accidentally while visiting Cheshire Outdoors and initially just popped in for coffee to warm up. Once we saw how great the menu was for dietary needs we couldn't resist trying lunch and it didn't disappoint. Excellent service, friendly and helpful staff, good understanding of gluten free food requirements & food prep which was really reassuring. Food reasonably priced. 5 of us had drink each plus either a light bite (sandwich, jacket) plus fries and water and the bill equated to £12 each which wasn't bad at all. Toilets easy to find & clean. Appeared families happy as well as couples.

Nice menu, good food and service

Overpriced Sunday carvery. Service was poor never offered a desert menu not that I would have had one but should have been asked. When we went to get our carvery the chef was rude and abrupt and the food sun standard. Cauliflower cheese was like baby food I had to ask for a plate for us all to remove from out plates but no one asked if there was a problem. Not once did any staff member approach us after we had ordered. I have had better food at a cheeper venue defiantly not worth the money will never return for food.

Situated in Blakemere village this is a really nice restaurant with a large indoor dining area as well as seating and tables outside when the weather permits. Staff are very friendly and service was good. Standard fayre with fish and chips, steak and ale pie, burgers etc. Toilets were clean and the restaurant is dog friendly.

Excellent lunch today. Most enjoyable.

Went here for breakfast on a Sunday for the first time. Not a particularly welcome greeting, half of the food on the buffet was still having to be cooked. We ordered drinks and needed to remind someone about them. On a positive note, the food was very tasty but equally good breakfasts can be found in the local area at a better price.

Stodgy, lukewarm steak and ale pie with ‘roasted roots’ - old, floppy carrots and parsnips that even our dog wouldn’t touch. Undercooked chips. Broken bread roll and a lukewarm burger. Weird rubbery churros. I could go on but I’d rather forget. Just go to a decent pub instead.

Visited for the first time for the all you can breakfast buffet. WOW! It was the nicest breakfast I have ever had. The staff were really friendly and all you can eat for £11 can’t beat that. Can’t wait to try the carvery on Sunday.

I have given 3 stars here for food.. I say this because sometimes it's just perfect and then I go a week or so later and it's not so good. For example, food comes.out cold and then it needs to be sent back, or the chicken burger is different from last time... Great place though just needs a little more attention to detail.

Gone down hill… used to be a nice little cafe style restaurant, but now it’s just grimey, untrained teenagers taking orders and serving, and can’t keep up with the orders. Menus has changed and not as good. Have to preorder the tea and cakes. Really terrible customer service! Last 5 visits have been awful. Won’t be giving any more chances. Avoid! Beautiful cafe in the courtyard, we left the food here and went there… much nicer and friendlier and definitely a better quality of food.

Food ok but service terrible make sure you are staying on the campsite as it will take all day to get your drinks and never got our dessert

Staying on the caravan site at Blakemere you get a 20% discount, this made for a very reasonably priced breakfast. Despite reviews to the contrary we found the staff to be very friendly and the food was fine. Will call again when we stop at the site again

The food was gross and oily (we had two breakfasts) I didn’t even eat it. It’s overpriced for the quality of food and the staff are miserable and have terrible customer service. (They’re probably underpaid and overworked) I thought the coffee would at least be nice but that was also bad.

Today I visited the restaurant with my son who a few weeks ago had a terrible accident and broke his Tibia and Fibula. It has been a very hard few weeks for us as a family and I wanted to take him somewhere nice and have lunch out with Myself and his Nan. We sat and ordered our drinks when my son said he felt very tired and sick! He asked if we could go home. We apologised to the staff and asked for the bill for our drinks. A male waiter Informed us that he had paid for our drinks as he felt sorry for my son. A gesture like this goes a very long way and I was overwhelmed by his kindness. I didnt catch his name as I was worried about my son... but I wanted to say to this kind gentleman thankyou! We will be back to visit very soon.

Food is delicious and presented very well. I had the carvery and the quality was outstanding, much better than any other carvery around for the price. The staff are so attentive and polite. Would highly recommend.

Great food, terrible service, after eating our Sunday lunch variety, our drinks arrived. Staff trying buy very poorly managed and laid out with staff crossing your path while queuing for carvery bench, condiments laid out in front of the que instead of at the end. Shame as could be great but as it stands it's crazy bad.

1st time visit. Felt a bit out of place as we turned up in our work gear but we were made welcome. Coffee was very nice once it cooled a bit. We also had a tea cake with jam. All reasonably priced aswell. They also do snack meals and full meals. Deffo go there again.

very nice food here. Expensive but very nice. Staff are friendly. this was our 2nd visit in 3 weeks and my only issue was that there was no sprouts. As they where very nice the 1st time we visited also £3 for a soft drink is mind blowing and thats the reason for the 4*. food is worth every penny but the prices of beverages is shocking.

Wish we had read the poor reviews before going in. Not very busy but took over an hour to get a poor quality chicken burger which leaked oil when picked up. Coffee was OK but £3.85 a cup! Lots of waitresses who could collect empty glasses but none were able to take an order when asked, waited 20mins for the one that could. Quite roomy inside though and table was clean enough.

Very friendly staff. Great little place just the food was a bit dry being under the lamp at the buffet but it was new years day 😀

Last Sunday was a very busy day at Blakemere as would be expected just before Christmas. We stopped for dinner after visiting the fayre. The service was lacking ...we waited for drinks which finally arrived at the end of our fiat course...the carvery...meats were fabulous but the vegetables undercooked...quite hard. Again we waited for a desert to arrive...just OK apple pie. Won't be going again...well maybe coffee but not carvery.

Loved it Little Pricey but tasted so freshly made. Need to book ahead now as it's getting soo busy there ready for Christmas

Feel so so sorry for the staff ! Under paid under trained pure example of greed! By the managers this place has many of faults but lots of potential, prices are extremely high for value and portion size. Plus side they have a good selection of gluten free food and great gluten deserts

Visited today. We opted to sit inside as a lot of the outdoor sitting was taken. We ordered 2 lattes and 2 puddings. It came to £18. As you can imagine our shock, more so because the sizes of all items were shocking. I've had nicer lattes out of a machine. The puddings, one of which was a slice of apple pie with cream (£5.50!) came out cold, with the cream already poured over it so it was swimming and went soggy instantly. I was handed a dirty spoon and had to ask for a clean one. All in all, not a great experience. Complete rip off when it comes to pricing. The quality of the food & drinks just doesn't justify it.

Booked the day before for four people. Arrived 10 mins early having driven 50 miles to get there. Greeted by delightful waitress who told us we couldn't have afternoon tea as it had to be booked the day before. It didn't say this on the website. Ordered meals instead. 2 sandwiches, steak and chips and jacket potato. An hour later we were still waiting, much to the embarrassment of the waitresses. Meals eventually arrived. Sandwiches were fine, chips inedible and jacket potato blacked, as though it had been in the oven repeatedly, reheated, yet it was cold. The chefs should be ashamed of themselves.

Terrible service, run by a bunch of kids, booked a table at 330 on a Sunday waited 40 minutes to go up for carvery to find a load of scraps left with next to nothing amount of meat because they helped them serves 1st before us also the takeaway service, gob smacked, we walked out. 1 star to leave review would be zero if could. NEVER AGAIN.

Strange little place, We prebooked but still left standing outside for about 20 mins. Our food order was taken eventually and after about another 20 mins of waiting at the table. I asked about the drinks we'd ordered as it seems they'd been forgotten as the food arrived first. This was made more frustrating as a large group who arrived well after my partner and I were served before us and happily enjoying their pints and food while we sat wondering what was going on. I'd heard a few grumbles from other people when we arrived but I thought they were just being grumpy or impatient but yet I ended up being the one writing a rare bad review. The menu said their beef burger was from the local butcher but on arrival it looked like the frozen ones you get at a bbq where the host went to Iceland for the food, it was tiny but priced and described as premium when in reality it was dwarfed by the bread bun and very basic. There is a doorbell inside the place that goes off loudly every few minutes no idea what it's for other than to irritate people, kind of kills the ambience, surely a better a solution to that like a little light that flicks on or something I'm assuming it's to let staff know food is ready but after about 20 times it starts to go through you. The servers are nice enough but seem stressed and this was only with I'd say 60% capacity. There is a lot of wandering backwards and forwards for trivial tasks like putting a single tray away or shuffling menus around while people are waiting even just for drinks. I think they just need some leadership in there as all very young and lacking a bit of direction and just looking busy without really doing what's really required No one asked if the meal was OK or if we wanted any sauce etc was for my partners birthday so a bit of a shame but did give us a laugh or two and the beer was good when it came. The cakes and scones being ordered around us looked good so if you go here pick cakes over the burgers would be my advice!

The Village Restaurant is a great place to go for excellent food & service. Plenty of choice on the menu, for lunch and lite bites. Staff friendly and helpful.

What can I say. Absolutely exceptional customer service. I needed a pet friendly, vegan option and traditional breakfast. They ticked every box. Immaculately clean. C-19 safety perfect. Would 100 percent recommend. 🐾🌱🥐

Just been into the restaurant excellent service from eli,luke and maisie,nothing to much trouble for them a real asset to the company will certainly be returning.

Called here today 27th February for a light bite... My husband and I selected Fish Finger sandwiches with chips.. The bread was hard, the Fish Fingers were cold and the 'Fish' inside the finger was Grey in colour, not appetising to look at, my guess they were cheap to buy in... The Chips were hard inside and not cooked properly.. Fish, unless good quality is dodgy at best... Nothing was eaten of my plate...We won't be eating here again

Very expensive but good atmosphere and friendly staff. Free WiFi but it really is poor connection. Still, a lovely place to go if you're after the experience of dining.

It's OK, the food looks to be from 365 or Brake Brothers. However the soup appeared home made but badly needed seasoning. It didn't cost very much so no real complaints.

Here is my take on this little café/resteraunt. We ordered 3 cakes and drinks all different. The Oreo cake was good however there was several hairs in it. The scone was very heavy and dissatisfying like a store bought one and the lemon cake was lack luster. The coffee was watered down and the milk with it was bad. The lemonade literally tasty like disinfectant so definitely don't get it. The only thing going for this place really is the fact it looks nice and that the staff are polite. I don't recommend here , especially since the food is rather over priced and it's not even good.

A lovely place to stop in on the way to or from Chester. We regularly stop for our lunch here. Nice warm building with lovely prepared meals. Friendly and helpful staff and quite reasonably priced. Always quite busy, it fact it’s often the busiest area of the village. Nice clean warm toilets which are very well maintained. Nice decor.

Excellent food and service. Staff very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.
