The Twirl Of Hay Brewers Fayre in Cheshire West and Chester

Food was OK and basic. The chef was off and only certain parts of menu were available. It looks like the pub is one of those it's closing down. It will just be used for the hotel Apparently from the 5th July 2024 the pub will be closed to the general public and restricted to use for hotel guests only.

Closed without warning after we booked our stay as in meals etc around it being open....

The breakfast is simply appalling, no choice of pastries. The hot breakfast was inedible. The lady on duty had no customer service skills or communication. This should not be linked to a Premier Inn. The food quality needs severe improvement.

We booked a table for a Father’s Day breakfast. When we arrived there appeared to be only one member of staff who was extremely stressed. There were people queuing to be seated and people queuing to get their food. As time progressed it became apparent that they had run out of milk, coffee, butter and the kitchen couldn’t cook enough food to meet demand leaving people queuing at an empty buffet. I don’t know if they were short staffed but things definitely weren’t running smoothly(the races had been on and it was Father’s Day). We ended up just leaving and going elsewhere.

Me and 4 others have Visited here for breakfast 4 times now and iv been turned away saying Hotel is priority and there’s not enough food for walk in customers , Good job done by the manager 👎

So first of all, we came here every weekend as a family of 4. Loved it. Food was perfect every time. The floor manager that was serving on New year's Day is brilliant and I've not seen her for a long time. Since she's not been there it's been shocking! A couple of months ago, it may have been a bank holiday or something, I can't remember what, but we booked as usually do, got there and they said there was only a limited menu, and it's only for pre-booked. Fair enough, we just assumed they'd cut down because it was a bank holiday. Went the following week, same again, and again and again. They last time we actually sat in and ate, was just me and my husband. I ordered something smothered chicken, my husband had pie. It all came out after 44 mins wait... Husbands was piping, mine, the chicken was cold. Like actually cold as if been left on the plate for hours. I complained and they said they'd bring me a new one, which they did... Another 40 mins later, by this point my husband had already eaten his main and we'd both eaten our deserts... Before my main meal came out. By the time it did, I was way past eating it, and ate a very small amount, and we left 10 mins later. No reduced bill, no sorry, nothing. We didn't return again for a couple of weeks due to busy lives etc anyway, last Saturday we booked to go again as a family (the kids love the unlimited drinks) we booked it the night before for 12pm.... Half an hour before we were due to sit down, I get a phone call "due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to cook food until 3pm, do you still want to come or cancel your booking" so had no choice but to say cancel it. What's the point in have a table at 12 when no food is being served until 3... We were already on our way, literally 5 mins away (we travel quite a distance to go there). Anyway so we called in the Sainsbury's around the corner to get some nice posh food with the money we would have wasted there. As we drove past at 12.20.... what do we see..... People walking in. AND people sat at the tables in the windows.... Eating food!!! Lots of cars on the carpark. I thought there was no food being served until 3pm. Will never waste my money in there again.

A party of 13 mixed ages with 4 children , rang me the day before to warn me only carvery and limited menu would be available? I was slightly wary but no need to be all had carvery and kids meals and all enjoyed them . The gentleman on the carvery was very welcoming and an asset to the place, also the other staff were all very helpful , we had a cake for mum in laws 80th birthday and they even supplied some candles as I had forgotten them , thank you for an excellent visit

EVERYTHING is too much hassle for manager Karen. One could say a very fitting name? First day we arrived at the restaurant for breakfast in two seperate parties, one had prebooked via Brewers Fayre website, the other hadn't. We were then told that we needed to go back to the hotel to book breakfast and that pre-booking via the Brewers Fayre website did not matter nor count. Whilst in Hotel reception Karen came storming over with a face of thunder, demanding to the receptionist that no more breakfast bookings are taken from the hotel. This is poor considering they advertise breakfast until 10.30/11.00am and it was only around 9.00am. The second day was no better. Some of our group prebooked at the hotel reception to avoid the wraith of Karen, only to be met with just as much displeasure anyway. A family queued in front of us in the restaurant and we're asked if they had pre-booked. "No we haven't" they replied, to which Karen said "No worries, we can definitley fit you in" Next she said that even though we had prebooked and paid at the hotel, she might not be able to fit us in. Strange considering she had countless empty tables and had managed to "squeeze in" the family before us. To summarise, food not too bad, but severe attitude problem from the manager who I'd probably recommend a change of career as hospitality doesn't seem to be your forte.

Walked in to a stinking attitude which was almost joyful at turning us away because we were walk-in customers. Excuses about lack of chefs. How not to run a business.

Ordered food at 7pm, was told 30min wait. Asked at 8pm, was told our order had been lost! Got refund and left never to return!!

Had our daughters party here today in the soft play. Sophie, who runs the parties is a wonderful human. She went out of her way to make it a very memorable day for us all, dressed up as Repunzel, is fab with children, and made everything run very smoothly. Thanks guys for a fab day 😀

Tried here for the first time a couple of days ago. Very good value for money. They even have a loyalty card. The food was really good, tasty, cooked perfectly with good portion sizes. Plenty of choice on the menu. Great value for kids. Staff are very friendly and genuinely helpful. Very welcoming atmosphere, family friendly which is always a good thing. Definitely returning.

Was in today with some friends as we regularly go for a carvery and thought we would try the twirl for a change and we were so pleased we did it was lovely hot and presented well will certainly be returning and recommending to friends

Absolutely awful place, would recommend not going there plates feel like they’ve been cleaned in the toilet, food is something my 7 year old son could make, hell even he could make better food than that. Service was poor incredibly rude staff and took more than an hour and a half for us to actually eat. To sum up in 3 words vile, inedible, just plain disgusting never to return!!! Also have you seen how in every recent review they all say “Karen the manager is amazing and helpful” literally the most recent last few comments all say practically the same thing😂

Lovely Sunday carvery with friends and family food lovely and fresh piping hot staff really helpful and Karen is amazing with all staff and customers nothing is a problem for her she goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect and everyone is happy Definitely come again lovely restaurant

Went there as part of a wake no food untill 5pm. Could even get a ice cream for my son as the staff said they went trained to put icecream in a bowl even though there were 7 members of staff there that i could see the place ridiculous wouldnt recommend to anyone

Great value breakfast. 2 kids eat breakfast free with every paying adult. Breakfast isn't too bad either.

Went there to get a late breakfast but the waitress ran away into the kitchen as we entered, then returned with her supervisor who made some excuse about finishing any breakfasts at 11:30, then saying we were too late, we were turned away. It was only 11:15 and the place was empty. The bar, however, was filled with what looked like the used glasses from the night before.

Had a meeting in the morning, great location and quiet. Manager H explained what was on offer for Breakfast we opted for X2 continental breakfast with unlimited coffee refills. She was lovely left us to it and even said get a seat and settle the bill once you've had your food! Thank you for the hospitality

Good atmosphere, excellent pub food

We love going here for breakfast. You pay for the breakfast and this includes unlimited Costa from a machine. It’s breakfasts include, cereals, pastries, American style pancakes full English, yogurts , fruit etc

Visited for a Mother’s Day carvery. The place was disgusting, floors were absolutely filthy along with the bar full of dirty glasses. Very unorganised as we had to wait around 30 minutes before the carvery was put out. The only good, or should I say edible thing on the carvery was the meat. The frozen veg used was rock hard and only partially cooked, the Yorkshires were half cooked and soggy on the inside, the mash was smash. Very disappointed with the experience. Will definitely not be visiting again!

3 pink undercooked burgers arrived at our table. Staff all lovely but extremely understaffed. Seems across all brewers fayre no staff atm. Can get served with drinks and play areas mainly closed. Sort it out your losing valued customers!

Same as most other Brewers Fayres, but the 2 4 2 menu is good value

Pub was nice and had the play area for the kids. Management was poor and needs to sort out the lack of staff issue! Food was missing items described on the menu as well as additional sauces we paid extra for and never got. Staff were pleasant but not enough to accommodate. Will not recommend and will NOT be returning!

Visited here on 27th Jan , waited 45 minutes for food to arrive when the pub was fairly empty. When food arrived my meal was missing, daughters arrived without peppercorn sauce and my grandsons without beans. Husbands steak was meant to be medium was dripping with blood. Waited 25 minutes for my meal and other missing items to arrive , but this time daughters meal was cold. And my son an husband had finished their meal. My meal whe arrived was a fajita burger which was meant to come with chilli and tortilla chips , came with chips. Had to complain again and took a further 10 minutes for the correct meal to arrive. Appalling service , we spent £78.50 and was not even able to eat our meals together , no discount given or even offered. Will avoid this place like the plague in future.

Male toilets smell like they’ve never been cleaned. Truly awful. Ordered food. Told it’d be a 40 minute wait. One hour later, no sign. The staff were friendly and went to the kitchen to check but it seemed that the kitchen staff didn’t care. It wasn’t particularly busy but not much food was coming out of the kitchen. Food arrived. It was warm (not hot) and dried out. It looked like it had been dried out. Avoid.

Just been for a meal with my family for a birthday celebration. Service was appalingly slow, waited nearly an hour for our main courses, all our meals were cold, and the worst meal experience I have ever had in my life. NOT to be recommended.

If you’re going for the soft play, don’t bother. They have ridiculous rule that adults can’t help (even though we were the only ones on it at the time) so my 18month old couldn’t use it safely, and my 3 year old was too scared to go up by herself and I couldn’t help, which we’ve never ever experienced before in the thousands of soft plays we’ve gone to. And we’re only told after we’d paid. Food was rubbish, staff were rude, absolute pointless trip

Only been to the breakfast buffet but was very pleasantly surprised. Much better than Toby's, no offense to Toby though...I've had many good experiences. Just the much better selection of food took me by surprise...Continental style as well as the usual sausage and bacon etc. Cereal, pastries, pancakes, fruit, fruit juices! Definitely be going back.

We had the 2 meals for £11.49 at lunchtime. Absolutely delicious food and staff friendly and very attentive.

Lovely food. Been twice now and enjoyed both times. We went mid afternoon that's why I gave 5 stars, as we like to eat in peace. Play area at opposite end of pub therefore doesn't effect you eating

Really good food, however the place is freezing cold, the Sunday Carvery is superb and good value for money.

Poor!! Birthday lunch totally ruined!! Waited an hour for food to come only for it to be lukewarm, so some sent back, was offered a portion of chips or a refund so opted for refund, couldn't risk there being another delay,apparently there had been a problem with orders going through from till but i think it would have been good customer service if staff had come to tell us instead of us having to go and ask where the food was, not just our group that it had affected, not enough staff either. Having travelled an hour to get there i doubt we will do it again. Shame because have always had decent food in other brewer's fayre. Don't know how they would have managed if it had been busy!!

A friend and I were trying to find a place for a cooked breakfast and many were closed for a variety of reasons. The Twirl of Hay fitted us in and we had an undisturbed breakfast for about an hour and a half. Great. However, although the food was fine there were very few staff tidying up and there were no dessert spoons or decaffeinated teabags. We got exactly what we wanted, but it could have been much better.

Always a pleasure to visit this place, great service from Karen, TJ, James and Jacob and all the staff, all friendly and attentive, massive children's indoor play area so the kids can do their own thing. Well recommended 😊

Excellent staff, great food. We were staying in the hotel next door and had the meal deals for 2 day's so we had 2 evening meals and 2 breakfasts. All was fabulous. Breakfast was self service and there was a huge choice. Evening meals really good. We'll definitely be back 😊

Stopping in the lovley premier inn but shame about The Twirl of hay attached were you can take your meals. Tonight we waited 1 hour 10 minutes for our meal . Very badly run kitchen I think.Breakfast that morning was dry and didnt have any glutenfree iteam eg bread,cereal.

We stayed in the Premier next door and so had breakfast x2 and dinner whilst we were there. The children also spend the evening in the soft play which was a very good size. The staff were absolutely wonderful, enthusiastic, helpful and kind. So many smiley faces is unusual to see, we felt very welcome. We will definitely return if we visit chester again.

Starter and main arrive at the same time. Ordered the salmon which was supposed to come with potatoes but it didn't. The salmon itself was served next to the pastry, a pastry so pale and unappealing that I barely touched it. I wasn't expecting gourmet food but there has to be a limit surely. The prawn cocktail was the saddest sight I've ever seen. The wait at the bar for drinks was so long that the food got cold in the meantime. I had to make do with the bread and butter that came with the prawn cocktail so that I could at least leave with a bit of food in my belly. Not good

Visited on Sunday 10/12. Was okay but nothing special, unfortunately. Food was alright but guess they must have had staffing issues as it took approx. an hour from ordering to receive our food. Bar tender was pleasant and friendly enough. Nasty smell of what I can only liken to ammonia in the toilets but they were relatively clean.

Decent for breakfast, with vegan options and kids eat free (with a paying adult). Friendly staff and was quiet when we were there at 8:30am. Vegan sausages and bacon is cooked to order and the rest is on the buffet line. Easy breakfast, open early which is great with a toddler who gets up at 6am!

Stopped of at this place the day before my wedding to meet up with all my friends and family for a nice meal. I had the Thai green curry which I added chicken to and then for afters i went for a chocolate brownie dessert. I signed up for the 20% of mains by your app which was nice. The place was clean like any regular Sunday roast place, staff was really helpful, the only thing I would comment on was we waited a while for food but thats to be as expected with which a large group of people and there was a bit of a que at the bar to place my order but other than that I really can't complain. The food was delicious if you want a nice meal and to re charge before your off again then this place is perfect for this. Will likely go again but closer to the at home in stockport.

Just awful! Long wait for food. Came out cold. All you could hear was the staff being shouted at. I think the place needs some attention. Not just in food quality but in just how the staff need some help and direction. Will not being returning.

Can today (3rd December) for our family Christmas we drove up from Liverpool had a Carvery after queueing up because nobody was there waiting to be served got my food sat down was very disappointed with the quality of the food no choice of gravy the only one that was there it’s so watery over all disappointing

Couldn’t believe how good the food was. Fish and chips and kids roast dinners were amazing. Staff were fantastic especially Sophie and Louise. Haddock was huge, crispy batter and the roast potatoes were delicious. Really had a turn around and great for the kids to play after school.

Cannot recommend this restaurant enough had a beautiful Christmas dinner there, friendly staff who cannot do enough for you, thank you to Karen and all her staff, big shout out to TJ and oli who both went above and beyond to make our night perfect

Visited the Twirl of Hay. The staff were so helpful specially Louise and Jake that went above and beyond to help. The kids loved their food and the play barn. Hopefully burnt all their energy up!

I can highly recommend the cocktails I’ve tried a lot of cocktails in my time and these a amongst the top10 for a pub. Mixed and served with care 👍 well done to your bar staff twirl of hay

I wouldn’t even give it a one star this is the worst place I have ever been too. 3 managers walking around doing nothing. Took an hour and a hall to get Mac and cheese balls. The place is empty and couldn’t even get food out on time. Speaking to 1 manager and all you get is I’m managing the kitchen. So one sits down after you and gets the meal first. All you get is I know and I’m sorry. Avoid this place like the plague. I will never eat there again in fact I’d rather eat out a dumpster than go back here. What is worst it’s on a meal deal with Premier Inn so you have to go shout at them when it isn’t even their fault. I honestly think all 3 of the useless managers need sacking at this place.

We stopped off on the off chance of having a carvery, a break from our journey going back to Stoke on Trent. The calvery was superb beef and turkey and all the trimmings gorgeous vegetables potatoes etc my granddaughter has allergies and she was catered for perfectly . Ah, the clump of straw. As we call it. To sum this place up quickly... Fabulous food, well cooked and super tasty. Cutlery, still dirty from dish washer. Soft drinks machine often problematic. Staff, hard to find, rushing around and often too busy to assist. Furnishings and decor are tired and worn. Toilets, ......well, they have them.

Just stopped by for a drink and the prices of everything were very reasonable! We'll be back for food as well soon!

Terrible experience from start to finish, table not ready on arrival. Took 90 minutes for food to arrive even though we gave a pre order. Some of the food was inedible . It was a 1st birthday for our grandaughter and the whole family was together so it spoilt the whole day. We will NOT be returning
