Definitely worthy of a 5 star review, excellent food first visit and with added bonus of 50% off mains for the summer. Heard great reviews, finally managed to try food, the special was a hunters chicken burger. It was worthy of the £17 let alone the 50% off, will certainly be back. Dog friendly advisable to book

Lovely little bistro pub , excellent and very tasty food , my fish hand cut chips and mushy peas was as good as I’ve ever tasted ! All of our family enjoyed having either the steak and ale pie or the pork loin . The sevice and politeness of the staff was exemplary as well being relaxed and friendly . The surroundings and cleanliness of the restaurant and washrooms coupled with the food and surroundings made our two visits whilst on holiday a most memorable experience , we would love to visit again on a future holiday ! Well done to all at The village Maid ! 👏👏

went with a group of four, to reach this place is , roads very narow and dangerous first neagtive but on arrival 2nd negartive we were placed on table right in the path of the open door which was wedged open creating a wind tunnel the place was full due to the 50% off mains offer. All had different meals mine was steak pie , the others had scampi, fish, and burger offerings. My steak pie was relatively small , for the price expected it to be the size of one from Keiths Renowned butchers on gorleston's high street. the fish was overcooked in batter , scampi look a bit sparsed but the burger looked like the best offering of all. Hardly a indication of a so called "al carte restuarant" . Noticed the sauces came in a tiny maramalade jam pot ( lets juts say thoughtful recycling) but looked a bit cheap, the small amount of sauce in it was hampen by the fact most stuck around the glass. Starters were £9, mains £19 did'nt see the dessert menu, but for a a " pub dwelling" quite expensive. I have noted this is part of the Moss and Co , so no longer a local pub. Would i go back yes of this occasion the burger did look good. So decided we go again but just the wife and i because the other two who came with us did'nt liked their meals. BUT ....... we booked table for two at 7.30 at the village maid lound for night of 2nd July, 2024, A day before the booking I tried to book an extra person (My daughter back from University) but was told in no certain manner they couldnt accommodate us 7.30pm , but could if we went at 7pm. we couldnt do that as wife works till 7pm. I tried to reason with the lady who answered the phone but she was very direct and abrubt saying they could not fit in another person it was obvious in her tone , no one could convince her to change her mind mind or manner, in this case . It was simply no way this could be done. .......message to this Company this lady./woman needs to go on a course firstly on manners one on attuitude and definitely one on CUSTOMER SERVICE !. The stupid part of this was i tried to book for 7pm originally but was told it was full and they could only accommodate us at 7.30 pm …… Now going to GAMBAS which saves me driving miles out to the country

My wife and I decided to try the Village Maid (having eaten at other pubs in the Moss & Co chain) as they had a special promotion with 50% off main meals for a limited period (Mondays to Wednesdays). My sister had bought us a £10 gift voucher and we thought it would be a good opportunity to use it. Sadly this was not possible - the pub's menu states '50% OFF MAINS OFFER CANNOT BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A MOSS & CO VOUCHER. TO USE A MOSS & CO VOUCHER, MEALS WILL BE CHARGED AT FULL RESTAURANT PRICE'. The meal itself was excellent. I ordered the whitebait starter (£8) which was a good sized portion and my wife and I shared it. Really tasty and fresh. For main course I ordered the pan-fried seabass (£20 reduced to £10) and a side order of hand cut chips (£4). It was served with a chickpea, chorizo and prawn gumbo in a large bowl and to be honest I could have skipped the chips as it was very filling. There were loads of prawns, although only two small pieces of seabass. My wife ordered the Maple Glazed Bacon Steak (£17 reduced to £8.50) which she really enjoyed. We shared a dessert, a lovely Banana Toffee and Pecan Sponge Pudding with Custard (£8.50) which was really light and tasty, and more than enough for us to share. The pub had an extensive drinks menu but only two ales available, although the Lacons Encore was tasty. The service was excellent - we had a very friendly lady server who had a great sense of humour and we really enjoyed the interaction. Pace of service was just right, not too rushed or slow, so enough time to digest and enjoy without feeling full or pushed to clear the table. We had a lovely meal and the entire visit was excellent. The only reason for not scoring 5-stars was the gift voucher issue. I don't see the logic in denying customers with gift vouchers the ability to access the offer. I could understand why the 50% off mains offer couldn't be used with another 'discount' offer, but a gift voucher is still a cash payment, indeed Moss & Co even had the money in advance! If we had used my voucher we would have ended up paying £8.50 MORE than not using it, which seems daft, especially as Moss & Co are promoting the giving of these vouchers as Xmas presents in their newsletter...we were better off NOT using it, which doesn't seem right. I have emailed Moss & Co twice on this matter and not even had an acknowledgment. Apart from that - the meal experience was excellent and I am sure we will be tempted to return.

Really disappointing visit for my Fathers birthday meal. We use this pub alot for week day visits and usually have lovely food and service. The service this time was great, as always, the staff are attentative and friendly. The food wasn't up to it's usual standard, cold, watery with not much seasoning, definitely not worth the price range, and my father didn't eat his meal, which was a shame. I did mention it to the staff, and I was told that the chef had changed. Big mistake IMO, as the previous chef was excellent, and I believe he has moved to another Moss Co restaurant. I think this needs to be addressed or local customers won't be back in a hurry.

We came across The village maid after a dog walk last week, after being made to feel so welcome and our dog being spoilt we couldn’t wait to come back! We wasn’t disappointed the service, the setting and the food was all absolutely brilliant! We come from Martham so a bit of a drive out but completely worth it and can’t wait to return!

The food was as usual fantastic I had the steak and ale pie and my husband had the chicken supreme it was 5 star the staff as always very friendly and welcoming will always recommend this restaurant

Have been several times recently but last couple of times we were very disappointed . The time before we did complain the food was cold but gave the pub another try this time with friends. We asked for a table for after 7.00 pm but we’re told they had nothing available, only 6.45 pm. When we arrived there were only four tables being used and nobody came in after us. The fish pie was not a pie and with very little fish it was pathetic. The steak was tough and very thin. Unfortunately we were reluctant to complain as we were with friends. We are local but we will not go again.

We arrived at the Village Maid and were made welcome by the staff. I ordered Fish Pie but what came up was nothing like a fish pie . Normally it’s cooked in its own individual bowl and you can then order sides to go with it .What came up was peas, cabbage , a large piece of broccoli , a few bits of fish floating in a very bland sauce , with a dollop of warm mash placed on top . It didn’t have any flavour and shouldn’t have been described as fish pie . I would never have ordered this had I have known what was going to be served . When the waiter came back to take our plates he asked us if everything was ok . I told him what I’ve said here that it can hardly be described as fish pie as it was just not cooked the way a fish pie is . He said that he had received feedback like that before and that the wording on the menu should be changed . So my point is why are they still describing it as fish pie!! It’s misleading to say the least , very disappointed with the food here

Sunday lunch with our 7year old granddaughter was a treat. They were happy to bring nibbles to start while we continued choosing our mains. The bread was homemade and the whipped sweet chilli was delicious I would have love to have taken some home. All the mains were very good, grand daughter cleaned her plate of fish and chips. The only downside was the flies that had taken a liking to our table!

We were staying in the Lound and went for dinner to celebrate my husbands birthday. We both had a delicious meal. We waited a reasonable time as the food is homemade. We were served quickly and given our drinks. The service was excellent. Nice clean and fresh decor. We sat overlooking the village pond which was nice.

What an amazing meal, the menu is not too large and the specials change frequently. Non vegan vegan paella, added chicken and whole large prawns - so well made, pie with mash and just greens, simple and tasty. Deserts were equally good, the chocolate tart and blood orange sorbet was like a Terrys chocolate orange on speed. Definitely returning soon

Excellent food and service. An extremely versatile menu catering for everyone. Food was excellent. Superb sea food choices and the menu is not necessarily exhaustive but doesnt leave you short of choices. Family friendly with online booking available. I would highly recommend it

What a find. A lovely setting in a quiet village opposite the duck pond complete with duckling family. Bright clean and welcoming. Friendly staff. The menu is not large but it as still hard to choose. We ordered sea bass and a pie. Well seasoned and cooked. Tasted beautiful. Desserts were a posset and rice pudding both delicious. What can I say, birthday tomorrow Sunday lunch today 26/03 , I had roast beef, just the way I like medium rare with plenty of fat, not to everybody's taste I'll admit, but perfect for me. My companions had the roast pork plenty of meat as with mine but both said it was lovely. In my opinion one of the best Sunday lunches I've had. Service was good and friendly, can't say any more.

Took advantage of Moss and Co eat out and help out September after hearing about deal on local radio. Picked The Village Maid out from the pubs in the group. Had a lovely walk in the area to build up an appetite. On arrival at the pub the staff were outstanding, explaining all the COVID guidance. We were immediately reassured about this venue.As a party of 4 we ordered anti pasta to start to enjoy whilst having a pint of Ruddles . We then ordered 2 mail course Liver and Bacon and 2 haddock chowder. We were not disappointed , everything about the food was fantastic. Only comment was there seemed a lack of bacon but that didn’t distract from being a great meal.Discount was applied to the bill which made it great value , so much so that we booked again for 2 weeks time.Well done and thank you to all staff at The Village Maid

We visited as a family of four for an evening meal. On arrival we waited outside to be seated, inside all of the seating was spaced appropriately and the one way system was clearly marked.The staff were friendly and gave you a quick Covid induction to the pub. Fantastic service.The food was incredible, a well thought out menu, and the food delivered.Absolutely spot on - thank you!

I've never been here before but my partner had. In this day and age you can expect anything but was very surprised, they even let my dog in. My first pint was nectar well kept and not too cold, now food, I had the hake with samphire, my only complaint was the hake could have been six times bigger but you can't have everything. My partner had the roast beef, some of which I managed to pinch, lovely, well cooked and tender also sliced reasonable thick to keep the flavour. One last thing the second pint was as good as the first. I suppose 10 out of 10 is a fair score.

It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary today and despite feeling a little apprehensive about eating out (for the first time since lockdown has been relaxed) we were made to feel very safe and welcome. Amy, our server was great and made our dining experience lovely. The food was wonderful. Overall. Fantastic.

Happened to be passing tonight and saw the lights on again, so dropped in for our favourite buckets of chicken. A warm welcome, lovely relaxed atmosphere with happy diners, and all very well organised. Food as great as ever, of course !

Our last visit was the night of lockdown, today's visit was reopening day! We couldn't wait to come back to our favourite little place. Didn't know what to expect with the social distancing guidelines but I can 110% say we were made to feel as welcome as ever by Rachael and the team. Food was also of the usual fantastic standard. I booked a table for 5 for lunch on a Monday. 3 people used the loyalty card to get the free fish&chips. 2 others were normal food orders, desserts were all good too. No complaints, good service. However it was a 45min wait for food due to it being busy at lunch time.

I went to this place with family for my Nan's 100th Birthday meal, we had a warm welcome, friendly service with a smile and the food was amazing, I had cod with crispy gnocchi and stem broccoli, it was really delicious, overall the night was brilliant. Came here with my stepdad for an evening meal. We both had the Thai red curry with a side of chips, the food is great quality and tastes really fresh. You also get a fairly large portion which I thought was good for the price which is slightly on the pricey side but worth it! The service was great too, the staff are really friendly. My partner heard about this well kept secret at work, the reason its kept secret is her fellow workers dont want it packed out so they cant get a table ! Looks like a standard country victorian type pub on the outside, they could do with a light on the pub sign, we went past it twice, but inside its warm ultra clean and inviting with freindly staff and nice real ale tooThere was quite a large menu and several 'specials' which I was told change daily, We had ,,Freshly made scotch egg, the yoke was still runny, with a fantastic salsa and arty bread and butter, then Shepherds pie, the like of which I'd never seen before and Chicken, smoked bacon & leek stew, dumplings, mash, seasonal greens , and we shared a pud of Nectarine Cheese cake. WE had 2 beers, 2 cokes the food and total bill £60, well worth every penny. Fantastic value for the food serveredWe got there at 1745hrs, not having booked but the restaurant doesnt open till 1800hrs, by 1900hrs there must have been 30 people seating, so I'd say best to book a table.

Wheelchair access is from the rear carpark. The carpark is gravel so not ideal, otherwise access is good. Toilet facilities are what you'd expect from an old pub.The vegan/vegetarian options are limited, so would not recommend, but staff were polite and attentive.

We visited friends in Lowestoft and they took us here last Saturday.We were blown away with the food and service. A bright , modern feel to the restaurant together with happy smiling staff that made our night special.The food was excellent. I can honestly say it was the best that I have had in many a year. We left very happy indeed and will visit again for sure. It is only 180 miles from where we live but worth every mile.I wish we had something this good where we live.

Not sure I need to say more. A quaint countryside themed pub/restaurant which was warm and friendly. The service was fast and the food was 5* so much flavour, passion and attention to detail. It's nice to see some character in the plates and glasses rather than wooden boards, slate boards, plain or white. Food was reasonably priced considering the quality, plenty on the plate and complimented the meats and fish so well. Thank you for a great meal and service we will be back x

From arrival, to our reluctant departure, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, with nothing being too much trouble. The food was excellent with a mouth watering choice of dishes. The tiramisu was a particular favourite across my entire group! For a dog friendly venue, the place was spotless too, thoroughly enjoyed our experience

My wife had the roast beef which she thought was excellent and the gravy was just perfect. I had the fish and chips, which was exceptional, Moss and co establishments do the best chips ever. I ate their many times. But the female mgr was always rude . I heard her call me an American Yarbo sad then when I confronted her she cried to management I was rude . Never would I be rude .

Have not been to the Village Maid for sometime. We had an excellent meal and we all agreed we must go back. The girls looked after us very well and were polite and made sure we were all happy with our meals. Thanks to all who made sure our meals were very enjoyable.

We have eaten here several times over the last few months and have always been very satisfied( which is why we return). The venue and friendly, efficient front of house staff were excellent as usual. On this visit we both ordered lamb leg steak with Lyonnaise potatoes and tender stem broccoli but it was very average. We enjoy lamb cooked pink but we had to send it back as it was completely raw inside. As a trained caterer,I know that Lyonnaise potatoes should be sliced and sautéed with onion. These were neither. The potatoes were halved new potatoes cooked with no colour and no onions. The tender stem broccoli was a misnomer and I don’t know a term other than raw which describes something much harder than al dente such that it was difficult to cut.

Met our cousins on the way to a short break, and it was a venue along the way. What a lovely surprise, slightly off the beaten track but nothing about it was. Lovely food, service, specials, value for money and the decor was very relaxing, and this was Monday lunchtime. Staff were fab and very helpful, really enjoyed the whole lunching experience. Would have no qualms about recommending. Oh and the icing on the cake, nicely situated car park at the rear of the venue. Which to me in our extremely crowded world is a bonus xxxx

This time we had an evening meal. Same warm welcome and the food was amazing! Eliza our waitress remembered us and our whippet from the previous year. Amy our other waitress was great too. This pub does really deliver, great atmosphere, food and staff. Thanks again.

Friend and I had a lovely lunch at the Village Maid. All I can say is we had a fish finger baguette and the fish fingers were freshly made. I returned with my family and the food we had was amazing.

Lovely place, nice setting, great food and and drinks, plus friendly and efficient staff. All the Moss & Co restaurants are of a high standard in my experience.

Fantastic food and very good selection on the menu. It all looked delicious as if your like me you check out other tables to see what the dishes look like. Service very good, well worth a visit.

This is our local eatery to go to for a nice relaxed evening meal out. The food is always reliably good and there is a nice choice of specials as well as from the menu - it would be nice to see more choice of dairy-free (or optional, e.g. fish sauce in a small jug on the side) on the menu though.

Found this place on way home. Fantastic service, food was spot on lovely sunday lunch and a lovely pint. If your anywhere near give it a go.
