Thanks so much for accommodating us two nights in a row this weekend - vegan food was delicious (the mock duck was amazing) - and for all your help with taxis when we were stuck! Highly recommend - brill service and fab food.

On walking in I didn't like the wooden tables and chairs. The first table we sat at the seats were very uncomfortable and I asked if we could move.. and we did. The wooden seats we moved to were extremely small so we swapped them for chairs with arms. Slightly better. The food was ok, and apparently it's very popular but not for me. I was recommended by a friend who said it was good food. My friend had the steak pie and enjoyed it but her coffee was lukewarm...my coffee was hot. They have a pizza oven and the pizzas were home-made and looked really good.

Warm welcome, excellent homemade food, great price for the quality. Will be telling all my family and friends. Highly recommend!

A popular village pub, with a pizza oven as well as a restaurant menu. A separate room hosts events like open mic nights. Worth checking beforehand out what is on and availability.

I am dairy intolerant and went to a function at The Village Inn recently, they were really great and laid on food especially for me. Plus the food was delicious.

Once again excellent as always. Exceptional food and friendly staff. Nice little new touches to the pub since last visit also make it feel more homely and welcoming.

We just celebrated my Dad’s 80th Birthday with a party here and from the moment I first made contact with Sarah and the team at the Village Inn, I knew I’d made the right choice of venue as they were accommodating & attentive from the beginning. Nothing was too much trouble for them and every request I made was delivered with a smile by a fabulous and friendly team who came in at a time that the pub doesn’t usually open in order to deliver this do for my Dad. They let me move the furniture around and helped me to decorate the pub before the party started and were on hand to respond to any guests requests once it had. The homemade food on a personally curated menu was absolutely delicious and every single one of the 30 + guests who attended has said how much they enjoyed it too. Some have already been back to eat a meal there and many more have said that they will do so in the future as will we. Thankyou very much for making a special occasion even more special for us.

Had a lovely meal last night, one of many we have had at the Village Inn. Really enjoyed the choice off the specials board. Sunday lunch is always good. You will need to book.

We stayed for carvery after the Sunday Sing Session. Very helpful with info and offering alternatives as I'm dairy intolerant. Carvery was wonderful. A good selection of vegetables and all freshly cooked. And the best bit was 3 choices of vegan desserts. Highly recommended if you have dietary requirements

Good carvery and friendly staff. One complaint we were asked to leave our table after just over an hour which I feel for a two course meal is too little time.

We went here for the fireworks 🎇 display and it was really good, the only downside was that they were offering food and mushy peas but wasn't offering card payments. Other than that they put on a really good display.

Open mic night was brilliant but drinks are expensive. 1 bottle of kopperburg cider 1 pack of mini cheddars £6.05 wow.

Always great food served by happy staff

We have been customers for over 10 years and the couple we were with have been customers for over 20 years, visiting on average once per month. The food is usually excellent, however on our last visit there was an issue with our pizza, it was overcooked, burnt at the edge and very dry. Understand completely that things go wrong on occasion and in this case the place was busy. We raised this twice with the waiting staff but it was not addressed. The bill arrived and there was no interaction with us. The issue was referred to the owner as my friend was requesting that they address this with a reduction to the bill. The owner appeared to take this as a personal attack and accused my friend of causing havoc and quite bizarrely accusing my friend’s husband of upsetting her and causing problems on our visit three weeks prior. He also said the we had upset his staff. He demanded we pay the bill in full or he was going to call the police. He also said that in his place, it was his rules which mattered. It appeared to us that his staff were afraid of him. I also feel sorry for his staff to have such a poor example of how to deal with complaints, his staff will not learn anything useful from him. The saddest thing was when I said to him that I don’t understand why he is in the hospitality industry given his attitude and he said he didn’t either. So as a result of him not addressing the issue raised and the way he conducted himself, he has lost four customers and we have lost a favourite place to eat out. Such a shame.

Enjoyed the beer..fish an chips bit pricey.. not many people in for a Wednesday night 😴 would try something different to eat when I go again..

Our 2nd visit to this restaurant and again, absolutely excellent. Its not often I can eat a whole pizza but seeing them freshly cooked in from you is excellent and they are so light. My son had the haddock and chips and that was huge. look forward to coming again

First time visit here on friends recommendation. Great choice of food to suit all tastes at very reasonable prices. Bit of a wait for our food but not a problem when it’s clearly all cooked to order. Tables nicely spaced out, great place to go for a relaxing informal meal. Will definitely be back!

lovely fresh hot food. excellent value just a shame when the bar staff are not serving ( they were standing talking whilst not busy ) they did not walk around the tables , collect glasses and offer other drinks on a table service ... making for happy customers and a happier till !

Went for the carvery. Choice of 4 meats, good selection of vegetables to choose from and plenty of gravy.

Had meals here a few times. Probably not again. Food very good. Had Sunday Carvery. Waiting for first course and pudding can be 1/2 an hour or more. Not go again.

Village Inn at Marehay is slightly off the beaten track but worth the journey. Service was really good with only a short wait until the gravy was brought to the table which is the signal to go to the carvery counter. Sunday carvery has the usual choices of beef, turkey, pork, yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese and assorted veg. Desert was also very nice. Overall a decent Sunday lunch at a reasonable price.

I visited the pub and have to say that the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The food was fantastic and the staff were so friendly. I went back for carvery on Sunday which was fantastic. On Friday they had a live lounge which was very entertaining. I look forward to going back there next year.

Had a fantastic carvery dinner, the staff were very friendly and always looking to have a quick chat to make sure everything is ok. They seem genuinely interested in how you are & what if anything they can help with to improve your visit.

I booked a table for 7.00 pm by telephone. When we arrived at 6.45, we were told they had 7.30 in their records. Assured this would cause no problems. We were handed menus at the bar and told a member of staff would come to our table to take the order. Well we waited, and waited until in the end, about 7.00, I went to the bar to order two starters and two mains. At about 7.20, one starter arrived, but was told the second had not been processed. Another wait, at at abour 7.30 both starters arrived. We were then abandoned as no one came to collect the plates etc., until we managed to call a member of staff. Finally, now just before 8.00, surprise, surprise, only one main course arrived. When asked 'where is the other' the response was it was being plated up. This then arrived after a further wait, but the chips were missing. At this stage I asked to speak to the manager, who was doubling up as the chef. This of course delayed her arrival. I recounted our experiences and the number one excuse was 'we were very busy'. So to help this business, I suggest no one visits, and anyone who risks coming may get a proper service. Apologies were made.

The serving staff were very attentive and incredibly helpful and polite, it made the evening extra special to be served by an incredibly polite young man and lady. The food was beautiful and well cooked and served ....I came as part of a group and there were a few of us but the service never faulted, we were all given our meals at the same time and was really happy with the whole evening

I organised a family Sunday carvery for the end of July this year. My large extended family & I were staying locally on a week’s holiday. I contacted Sarah (one of the owners) a few weeks in advance especially because our group consisted of 11 adults, 6 children aged 4-9 and a 14 month old toddler. From the moment we arrived in the spacious dining area, we were met by helpful, friendly staff. Every member of our group (there are some fussy eaters among them) were so impressed with the standard of the food as it was very fresh, tasty & plenty of it. Let’s put it this way…..every plate was empty when they were collected. If I could have scored this beyond 5 stars I would. A big thank to Sarah & her staff for making our day so special! Have been a few times and were delighted. Last time we went service was so slow, had to ask for menus , so when we got to the sweet course we were told the kitchen was closed. This was at 8pm Don't think this was very good !!! We only wonted a ice cream dersert nothing hot.

In our group booking they catered for my vegan diet sooo well, far exceeding expectations, and the waiters were so attentive and professional

Not been here for a long time so much so it was called The Kestrel. However you don't get a second chance to create a first impression. Lovely clean place,friendly staff, and the food amazing. Impressed me so much I've booked again one week later. A hidden gem.

We organised a birthday Sunday lunch for x17 people. Staff were all very friendly & great service. We all had starters which were lovely followed by mains. Absolutely loved it huge thanks to Phil, Sarah & their team. Highly recommended.

My husband and myself have been having lunch at the village inn for years and all over the covid 19 lockdown when permitted we were always served at our table and the food has always been beautiful, the staff always making sure that they and customers where following covid rules. We went today for lunch and to be honest I was quite surprised that there was a lot more people inside than I had expected and that we had to go up to get our food which was not upto it’s usual standard the vegetables wasn’t as hot as normal but the worst thing was that both our desserts we’re only just warm I did pass this on to our server and to the bar staff when we paid our bill, there was also another table of 4 people that had bee waiting ages to get there food.

We called her last week as we had heard about the pizzas, and boy we were not disappointed. They were delicious, and to learn they do takeaway to is great too. We enjoyed it so much, Lisa and I visited the next day for the Sunday carvery, once again this was delicious. The real ale i was served was also kept at a high quality I think we might be visiting alot more in the future

Great starters: goat's cheese and salad, fishcake and salad. Mains were brilliant: lamb shank, mash and veg; gammon, pineapple, chips and peas. Generous and tasty.

We went to the village inn on Friday 12 December and was reassured by the staff and owners with their efforts to do as much as possible to ensure our safety. I’ve been to a lot of venues over the last 6 months and have been scared by the lack of covid preventions At the village everything is still more or less in the same preventative measures as when we came out of last lock down As a measure of this ,and also the magnificent food on offer ( all cooked to order ) we feel confident to recommend to others that are not confident about going to such venues Keep up the good work Sarah,martin,Phil and all staff Merry Christmas and be safe

Slow service but the pub was lovley and warm

Excellent meal for my Mum's birthday. Menu isn't that fancy but the taste and quality was fantastic. The chicken with tarragon add bacon was class. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely return, especially because the next table had a pizza that looked out of this world.

Not been here for many years and has changed name from Kestrel to Village Inn. Good menu choice including vegetarian and vegan options. Food was very good and prices very reasonable. Will definitely visit again and recommend.

The landlords a thief , £1 for half a lemonade £1.80 for half a lager but £3.60 for a pint of shandy and to cap it all off he argued he'd done it 20 years , the man is nothing more than a thief

What a fabulous experience 5* food 5* service generous portions it made our visit to Ripley with friends a wonderful experience, what a shame it is off the beaten track, if in the area will definitely visit it again

We dined at the Village Inn last Saturday and really enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious - I had the braised steak and my wife had a Mediterranean Tart. We had lovely starters too so no room for desserts. There was a good choice...

This was our first visit to a pub/restaurant since lockdown and the experience was incredible. It felt so safe, the situation was managed so professionally and everything was thought through. The owner and staff are amazing, excellent customer service and couldn’t do enough for us....

We went out for a family Sunday lunch at the Village Inn today, the first time eating out since lockdown began. I have to say they have done a fantastic job of redecorating and making the pub/restaurant covid safe. The addition of screens and a one-way entry/exit system, along with the table service made it a very comfortable and relaxing experience. I would thoroughly recommend The Village Inn and look forward to returning soon.

This was our first meal out after lockdown which we thoroughly enjoyed with my mum and dad. As regulars, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and owner who wore masks/visors. In spite of social distancing restrictions, the revamped bar and redecorated room looked great....

Restaurant hours vary, Sunday is limited mainly to a carvery, not extensive, quite good but relatively a bit expensive. Drinks at reasonable prices. Pleasant staff.

Pleasant atmosphere, good food, great pub. I was there because there's a proper 18 piece big band there every 2 weeks on a Monday night in the function room. So live music, good band playing some swing classics - very much worth a listen
