We booked in this evening with friends we only see infrequently , the food was scrumptious as usual , unfortunately one of our friends became poorly during our stay , Emma , and all of her staff were attentive and amazing Thankyou so much so grateful to you all , see you all very soon

Love this venue with its quirky decor, friendly staff and good choice of food, but my goodness! An hour to wait from order to table! Very busy on this particular night, but clearly something went very wrong. We will return as the food was delicious, hopefully the next experience will be much better.

What a lovely gem in Belper. Friendly staff, lovely pub and great food. We were made to feel welcome and even our dog got some treats. I would recommend the KFC and Viking burger for messy deliciousness.

Had a great meal here, I have an allergy to something that's not in the top 14, I was very well looked after, manager Emma was very understanding and reassuring. Loved the jokes in the toilets - listening to Victoria Wood will definitely visit again. 🥰

Three vegan options on the whole menu? There used to be a lot more, but obviously they've decided they don't really want to/can't be bothered to cater for plant-based diets! It's disappointing, to be honest.

I was with a party of ten. We had pre-booked our order and after we had got our drinks ( Great quality real ales) ,as soon as we were seated our meals arrived. No complaints from anyone. Well done the Devonshire.

While, perhaps, not being a first choice as a drinkers' pub, The Devonshire has a lovely atmosphere and an excellent menu that transcends "pub grub" making it a great destination for lunch or dinner. There are some decent local ales on offer and a reasonably decent wine list. The staff are both friendly and patient.

Look, up-market pub, very popular, food is good, service is quick but you must decide what you want. Restaurant or pub don't decide while there. All around good but not my vibe.

Received a very warm welcome from Emma , the place was busy for a Monday lunchtime, warm , cosy & inviting, fresh flowers around , very clean too . We had the Steak with Pink Peppercorn Sauce & Fries , asked how we would like our steak , knives given too , only 2 staff on duty but they are so efficient & really switched on ..we had our dog , a bowl & treats were bought over , we felt so welcome .. what a great place , can't wait to go back .

Visited here for a belated anniversary meal and it didn’t disappoint! Really nicely set out, lots of space but also cosy. Staff was incredibly friendly and the food was delicious! Recommend Pie3 - superb 👌🏼

Oh wow! I really don't know where to start apart from get yourself booked in for some amazing food! We nipped in on the off chance that they may have a table for Saturday night and they very kindly found a small table for us. We arrived at 6pm and was immediately seated, drinks order was taken straight away and the food order taken soon afterwards. We were advised there would be an hours wait for the food which was fine as we were in no rush. The lovely manager came to see us and said that if anyone didn't show up or cancelled we would be given their table which they did about 10 minutes later. The food came out bang on time and was amazing! I had the fish & chips and my partner had the hanging chicken kebab and both thoroughly enjoyed it. The drinks selection was great and we both managed to try something we'd not tried before. Thank you so much to the team, you were all brilliant and we will be back again soon to try more of your delicious food.

We went for Burns Night last night what an absolute lovely experience. From addressing the Haggis with an ode from Robbie Burns . The food was superb. Just want to say well done to Mr Roper, Emma and all the team keep up the excellent work worth every penny. A big shout out to the chefs triple thumbs up from us and the service was just as good as always. To have such a memorable occasion in the middle of Derbyshire was such a pleasurable experience. Lovely meal , booked for early on Saturday evening and would say this would be vital. As it’s clearly popular Food was excellent quality and came in reasonable time. Would have been excellent but unfortunately we had to ask a couple times when drink / bill appeared to have been forgotten Overall though staff were friendly though , and will definitely be back

We all enjoyed our main meals, in fact they was exceptional, unfortunately the sweets/puddings were poor. I would definitely go here again, the staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough.

We booked a table for 2 on a Saturday night, it was a busy evening in the pub and we waited about 45 minutes for our food. The pub was lively with groups of people on a crawl around town, so was quite loud at times. We both chose fish, one with batter and the other without, the food was hot and plentiful. The service was good and the staff attentive. Definitely a place to return to. Thank you

A great first experience in that period between Xmas and New Year. Family meet up for a birthday. It was our first visit and we were impressed from the outset. The bar team were efficient and friendly. When we got to the table we were told to expect a bit of a delay - but so what, there were some good beers. The menu was very good - something for all tastes. The chips (fries) were exceptional. I had a fish - others had various burgers - in very good buns. Throughout, the staff and the atmosphere was just right. Would recommend it and hope to find a chance to return. Many thanks.

We were on holiday in the town and came here for lunch, ham, egg and chips and a duck wrap. Ham came with lovely chargrilled pineapple, both had lovely chips. Came back for dinner, beef bourguignon and bangers and mash. Food was excellent, balanced and healthy portions. Service was great, attentive without being overbearing, friendly and accommodating.

We went for a Christmas meal. The starter was great but main wasn't really special.. I ordered a rare steak but it came out nearly well done! 🥹 Not the best place for a steak, I guess but overall food was good here.

Tried to book at a place close to home at short notice and also tried the Exeter Arms but they had no tables available. Rang the Devonshire Arms who managed to book us in as long as long as we arrived by 9:45 at the latest

Had to wait for meal,but the pub was quite full. The turkey meal was worth waiting for.

Family meal. Table booked for 8pm, was told there was a wait of 45mins for food. Place was packed and noisy due to all the festive gatherings. Food came earlier than expected and delicious. Staff helpful, complementary and working as a team. Best pub meal I’ve had in a long time. Sirloin steak to die for, well done chef.

Best veggie meal we have had for ages.It was a superb nut roast with great veg selection and gravy.We were really pleased with the quality and service.

Came to this pub with a friend in summer and had a lovely fish butty, doorstep fresh homemade bread, with crispy fish and a stunning tartar sauce with chunks of gerkins and a hint of lemon in it. So returned this evening to have the same, its still avertised as a fish butty but this time it was in a bagette that was so crunchy i couldnt bite through it, there was no homemade tartar sauce, i actually couldnt even taste any and there was a piece of lettuce that was all brown and slimy from the heat of the fish. Although the lady on the bar was very friendly the male member of staff who asked if everything was ok wasnt very happy when i said i was expecting a sandwich not a bagette. He said he would have to check the menu because he said it states bagette on the menu. I checked the menu again and it clearly states butty which if they checked means. "Butty is a British informal word for sandwich. The name butty comes from a shortened form of saying bread and butter". But the waiter never came back to say sorry or to change it.

Nice pub, good choice of ales, great menu, not your typical pub grub. Looking forward to our next visit.

My wife and i went on an organised set meal evening and everything was served at the cirrect time and the food was excellent. Staff were very friendly on arrival and throughout the evening. Will definitely book again.

This was the first pub I used some 64 years ago so I celebrated my 80th with my family here on the 15th Oct. We have eaten here before and it was great, my party of 11 did not have one wrong word to say about the food the service, it was better in all ways to my afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason London 2 days before. I just wish to thank all at the Devonshire for my birthday lunch and will see you soon.

Wednesday 18th October 2023, My husband and I awoke to a overcast and drizzly day. We dressed up and then drove up to Belper in Derbyshire to meet our friend Janet Wilson whom we last saw in September 22. We arrived at ‘The Devonshire’ at 12.00 pm, and parked in the pub car park. We had a table booked here at 5.30 pm for dinner, and they said we could leave our car in their car park whilst we looked round the craft and antique centres. After shopping we strolled back to ‘The Devonshire’ after first stowing our gems in the car. This would be our third visit here. We entered within and were shown to our table in the restaurant. We looked at the small but interesting menu and made our choices and ordered our drinks. Whilst we were waiting for our food, we started catching up on news and gossip and there was plenty to talk about. The food arrived piping hot, My husband had the ‘Saxon’ burger served with chips, Janet has a steak baguette served with chips and I had the Peking duck wrap served with chips, which was really nice. We washed all this lovely food down with a pint of IPA bitter for my husband, a pint of mango cider for me and a half a larger and a coke for Janet. We all had desserts; My husband and Janet had the bread and butter pudding with custard, which they said was very nice. I had three scoops of ice cream (honeycomb and Clotted Cream), which was lovely and light and the perfect finish to my meal. Afterwards, as time was getting on we then had to say our respective ‘Farewell’s until we can meet again, probably in the New Year all being well. Janet then drove back home to Sheffield and we drove back to Birmingham, after a really lovely and relaxing day.

Had birthday party in the cowshed . Food was from the buffet menu , quantity and quality were excellent . The staff were so friendly and attentive . Could'nt find a thing to complain about . All perfect ! . A wonderful evening enjoyed by all . Many thanks ! .

Went for a Christmas meal last year and the food, people and atmosphere were perfect.

More of a restaurant than a pub, always feel a bit awkward if you just want a beer.

The food was outstanding best burger I have had in many years and still I wished I had got the chicken kebab or the kofta or any of the other dishes served. Service was average at best, out of the 3 staff on only 1 seemed to work. Complaint regarding the use of a split plank of wood with cloth fibers left on it to serve food on was basically disregarded. Staff repeatedly walked through fire exit without closing it behind them letting in cigarette smoke into the area. What the food deserved was let down. Hopefully that's a one off because I intend to eat here again.

We had a table pre booked for 5 pm on a Saturday night. Yeah it was busy but took over an hour for our food to come with no warning that there may be a wait on food. On the hottest day of the year couldn't of helped but all they had to do was let us know. we had to ask where I food was for it to suddenly appear. 3 out of 4 really enjoyed the food. Unfortunately the nachos was like deep fried tortilla wraps cut into triangles. Not for me. But we'd definitely return just to try the loaded chips they look amazing!

My partner and I went for lunch yesterday and it was absolutely delicious! All the staff were lovely. It was really busy so there was a slight wait, which was understandable but the staff came and apologised. I highly recommend everyone to come here, you'll not regret it.
