Cakes are all fresh and lovely, Dorset Apple Cake was delicious and a generous portion given. Coffee was good. 2 points to bear in mind….. 1. Don’t forget when ordering your drinks that sugar is not given. I had to go back to the counter and queue for a few minutes only to ask for sugar, they only offered one satchet but I asked for four…….Times must be hard…..lol 2. No cash is allowed, card only. Apart from that it is a nice atmosphere and lovely views outside.

£4 for a cup of tea ? It’s the most expensive cup of tea I have ever had ! And I’m from London 😅 not even with fresh milk ! However the viewpoint over chesil beach is amazing .

We came to the cafe for lunch. The food was excellent and there was more than enough of it. The staff were so pleasant and helpful, they couldn't do enough for us. We will definitely be back

Very disappointed with the food, I am local and have visited before but on this occasion our visit was not up to standard. My son had a blue moo sandwich which at £10 was not cheap, more like a mixed up sandwich filling in ordinary sliced bread. He is a head chef so you can imagine his comments. I had a fish finger sandwich which was the same, nothing special, also £10. Staff very pleasant but food not up to standard.

Aptly named for it’s world class heritage view of Chesil Beach all the way to Devon on a clear day. Good food in generous portions, delightful staff who give you the time of day, dog friendly, great for disabled guests. Also a decent pint if you’re so inclined.

Just avoid. If there was an option for no stars, this place would be awarded that. After a cold, bracing walk on the cliffs, my wife and I wanted a light bite and a cuppa so decided to give this place a try. We walked in and waited to be directed to a table. We waited a bit longer and made a move towards a free table. A ringing voice called out "Don't sit there, it needs to be cleaned". No pleasantries, just a direct and blunt instruction shouted from behind the counter. As we waited, three other tables were taken by other people walking past us, none of these tables had been "cleaned". We then chose a smaller table, so as not to take up unnecessary seats. "NOT THERE EITHER, IT NEEDS TO BE CLEANED TOO". We waited and watched as coffees were made, orders taken from those who'd recently sat down. I decided to start clearing the smaller table. You can guess the rest. Needless to say, we left, admittedly passing on some (polite) advice to the yelling woman, on my departure. Happy New Year! :-(

It was my birthday and it was recommended by my sister to visit as she lives nearby. We had a lovely turkey meal as a small family group. I never knew this cafe was there. Staff were lovely and polite. We enjoyed our tea and coffees. The turkey meal was a great price. The view was perfect. The pricing is very good. It was a lovely birthday location. It was also nice to have a chat in a quiet location. We will be back

Popped here for lunch, ended up having a nice Christmas dinner. Very nice and a very reasonable price for it too. Nice decor, attentive and friendly staff and, of course, a great view. Only thing I would add is if you’re a bit limited in your mobility, don’t go in through the front door. Go through the hotel foyer and straight into it.

Very rude to customers as well as myself , became a joke After spending £4.00 on a coffee found it to be very diluted asked for it to be made stronger, this taken off me and thrown in the sink , cleanly not happy and a new one given but after asking for sugar , milk and a spoon this was slammed down on the counter .

One of the worst cups of coffee I’ve ever had the misfortune to attempt to drink. We had asked for two Americanos. The older woman behind the counter didn’t offer us a choice of size or ask about what strength we wanted. She charged us the maximum price £7.80 for what turned out to be two large, disgusting, weak, watery cups of brown liquid. We found out afterwards that a stronger, cheaper ‘regular’ size coffee is available. And the cafe … what dreadful decor! Plastic plants in damaged pots. Cable reels for tables with random stickers all over them. Army-type camouflage netting inexplicably draped around. A leaking fountain with a towel on the floor. We had gone to this hotel to book Sunday lunch. We left without booking. If they can’t even make a decent cup of coffee we’re not risking a meal there.

We have regularly popped in to The View cafe but things all went a bit wrong on this visit. The sign at the counter set the tone. "Orders will take 30 minutes because the kitchen is too busy" Not very welcoming and only 4 tables were occupied! - So our order came out much faster than this. To be fair, the Portland Pasty was small but ok and came with a nicely dressed mixed salad. The same could not be said of the beef and blue Vinny sandwich. From the description we pictured a slice of beef and a slice or grated blue cheese. What we got was small lumps of beef in mayo with no trace of cheese. It wasn't even a blue cheese mayo. Even the accompanying cous cous was also forgotten. - Sadly the tea didn't offer a robust cuppa either, although we appreciate that this is personal taste. - When a manager came by to clear the plates, he just blamed everything on the chef. It felt like everyone was out of their depth and nobody wanted to make the effort and "thank goodness tourist season is almost over!" Indeed, the only friendly smile in the whole place was from the cleaner. Full marks to her. - The View cafe has never been as pleasing as the first floor bistro, now limited to hotel guests. The view from the lower ground floor is still good but everything else seems to have suffered a landslide.

We visited on a sunny day. Fabulous views and therefore you’re paying a premium. However the burger, mini sausages and Dorset apple cake with clotted cream were all delicious. As another customer mentioned, the tables were sticky so I can only assume it’s the varnish, possibly need a bit of TLC but it didn’t ruin our visit. Lots of other lovely looking cakes on offer. Would definitely return.

Stopped for coffee and cake after a walk along the cliff to the prison and before venturing into the old quarry. Fantastic setting overlooking Portland harbour and the sea. Only downside was the prices! Most expensive small slice of cake I’ve ever had.

Don’t waste your money. View is lovely but that’s all. Tables feel all sticky inside and not very clean. Worst cream tea ever and 8.00 !!! Certainly not worth it. No sure what type of cream they use but just melted and was runny Scone was far too hot. Certainly not value for money. If you want to have a decent cream tea I wouldn’t go here. Tea Rooms Weymouth harbour do a lovely cream tea.

I visited today and ordered a Moo and blue sandwich, described as beef and blue cheese! I visualised a slice of beef with maybe a slither of cheese. Yummy uhmmm no it was tiny bits of beef in an almost liquid mess which was vaguely cheesy it ran out of the bread as I bit into it. I didn't want to make a fuss as I was with a group of friends including small children who had been told to just eat up and not be fussy!!! But for £10 what a waste of money that won't be happening again

Had an absolutely brilliant day celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday with a bottomless brunch. The food was brilliant. I had nachos with chicken. The cocktails were lovely, posh Totty, espresso martini and then gin and tonic, unlimited all afternoon. Best of all was the outstanding service we received from Owen who is an absolute star. He needs a pay rise!

Lovely setting but that was about it for the positives. The service was patchy and with so few things on the menu, you would have thought that the serving staff would be able to answer simple questions instead of saying. 'I don't know I haven't tried that'! The food was very poor, three of us ate there and not one of us had a satisfying meal. Soggy batter on the fish and chips, overcooked shrimps served only with a small portion of ridiculously spicy rice and no vegetables in sight and the vegan fish and chips was totally tasteless (we didn't end up paying for this meal). The chips were good though but not a meal. Much more thought needed to be given about presenting balanced meals, taking pride in ensuring that each item on a very limited menu was cooked properly and taste tested. It seems as if this restaurant is relying on location rather than serving good food and that really is a shame.
