Lovely setting but that was about it for the positives. The service was patchy and with so few things on the menu, you would have thought that the serving staff would be able to answer simple questions instead of saying. 'I don't know I haven't tried that'! The food was very poor, three of us ate there and not one of us had a satisfying meal. Soggy batter on the fish and chips, overcooked shrimps served only with a small portion of ridiculously spicy rice and no vegetables in sight and the vegan fish and chips was totally tasteless (we didn't end up paying for this meal). The chips were good though but not a meal. Much more thought needed to be given about presenting balanced meals, taking pride in ensuring that each item on a very limited menu was cooked properly and taste tested. It seems as if this restaurant is relying on location rather than serving good food and that really is a shame.

First - ordered a bottle of Merlot which was delivered in an ice bucket Second - waited for about 30 minutes , noticed that people who had ordered after us had been served. Went to top man who sorted it and we were told a mix up on table numbers - food arrived, a bit cold!!!!THIRD - left and we’re chased by girl who said ‘have you paid, and asked us to return to the restaurant! We said - this is very embarrassing, she said I didn’t say you hadn’t paid, I said that’s exactly what you said. She then checked and said sorry it looks like you did pay!!! We had of course paid. Unbelievable, don’t go there , we won’t ever go near it again . Grrrrr

Service was shocking, you would think with them being closed for such a long time they would want to make loads to make up the short fall. We waited 30 minutes for drinks and 30 more minutes for breakfast. The food was ok, bacon was tough and I had about 15 baked beans. They could coin in, if the service was better, we didn’t even get asked if our food was ok or if we would have liked another drink. Improvements could be made for sure!

While waiting to be seated I witnessed some pretty aggressive behaviour towards a few different customers who didn't follow the arrows to the millimetre! Theres so many arrows and cross hatching on the floor its gets quite confusing. The staff seemed generally unfriendly on the couple of times i have visited in the past week. The Ribs turned up covered in litres of bbq sauce, they were very gristly, tough and inedible. We left 90% of the ribs and when we mentioned it to a member of staff they just said “ok” and walked off. No sorry or offer to replace them. The burger was equally as bad. It was very tough, dry and fairly tasteless. Its such a shame its so bad as the restaurant is in a great location.

Love this place. They say it’s the best burger in Dorset and it certainly is - if you like a big juicy burger in a proper “savoury” bun with chips that are the crispiest on the outside and the fluffiest in the middle. Also view of the harbour and boats too! Superb.

Overlooking Weymouth bay and Portland harbour, The Boat That Rocks was the perfect place to have a socially distanced catch up with friends. We all went for a coffee and the TBTR burgers - tempted by the fact that they were 10oz of beef with the challenge that we wouldn’t be able to lift our burger to eat it with just one hand - they were right! The burgers really were delicious and the accompanying chips were cooked to perfection! Due to coronavirus restrictions, we naturally, had to sit outside but, thankfully, the weather was on our side and we could sit for a few hours enjoying the company and the views - we were even treated to two chinook helicopters taking off and landing nearby!

We headed down Thursday evening to try their claim on having the “Best” burgers in Dorset. Absolutely winning on that claim. The food is outstanding. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. The manager is absolutely one you would hope to have if you were an employee. The vibe was amazing. We can’t wait for lockdown to lift more so we can eat inside, as it was chilly out. Their new simplified menu is definitely a winner. Try the Calamari. Oh and of course you must try the burgers!!!

It was lovely to sit out in the sun, still chilly so take a blanket. With regards to the food, I chose a seafood meal being near the sea, Tagliatelle with shrimp. It was very runny sauce, watery and the shrimp were like rubber :( It wasn't very filling, I got food envy as my husband had the chicken burger which he said was nice and certainly more filling. They charge £1.50 per extra for the burger!! and the glass of lemonade should be bigger for the price of £1.75!! We will not be revisiting sadly as they need to up their game for value for money!!

The service was good and the live music excellent. The food however was awful the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding came constructed to look like a tower with the brown huge Yorkshire pudding on the top. That was the give away that it was not going to be good. The so called Yorkshire pudding was overcooked and dark brown the 2 slices of beef were also overcooked and the hard leathery edges looked like it had been microwaved. Underneath the beef was some reasonable bits of carrot and pureed veg then some soggy un crispy roast potatoes. Definitely not worth the money .

We met my girlfriends sister here for lunch, socially distanced on two separate tables. On being showed to our tables, it took over 10 minutes to have a staff member to come to us for a drinks order, and then another 10 minutes to receive our drinks. There was no ask if we were ready to order! The lad who brought the drinks couldn't have scampered away more quickly! We thought ok, the girl who initially sat us down will surely be back to take our food order any minute... Guess what she didn't.. So after being sat down for over half an hour, no food order has been taken! I'm looking around the restaurant, and there is no more than 8 tables with customers!! And no staff to be seen. After starting to feel this service was laughable, I approached the bar, which obviously in the covid restricted times, we shouldn't be doing, and ask a lady entering something on the till, if someone can come and take our order as we've been waiting over 30 mins for this to be done. And the rude response I got was... YEP.. No I'm so sorry, I'll be over right away, she didn't even make eye contact with me!So the girl who actually sat us down, and in my eyes, her responsibility to come back to take our order, waltzes over, no apology for not being over sooner. Then when the food FINALLY ARRIVED another 30 minutes, we had our food for over 5 minutes before the other two meals came out! And then only one came out, then the last one 3-4 minutes later!! Over bringing out the wrong meal!So thoroughly disappointed with the whole experience!! The food was mediocre at best!! Definitely not worth the money at all, the cold slaw resembled something that a dog would throw up.. really awful. Then to top off our horrendous lunch experience, we got given the wrong bill! Which was more expensive!!Really really disappointed, when we complained at the time of paying, no offer of any money off, free drinks, or even a believable sincere apology. Will definitely be avoiding from now on!!

We arrived at the restaurant and all the staff were very friendly and very welcoming. However, once we ordered it took over 15 minutes for our food to come, we were very hungry and this made everything worse. When it can I can say I was very very disappointed at the quality of the food - I had the burger and it tasted like it had been on the grill for far too long it was very dry and very charred on the outside. The chips that came with it were again overdone and totally crispy. They also got our order wrong, we asked for burgers with extra bacon and mushrooms, however, this wasn’t done and we got three plain burgers. With that being said a member of our family ordered some fish and chips and said that they were good. Overall not great quality food at all, especially not the burger. The staff are lovely and very nice, but the food did not match the quality of the service.

Unfortunately the service was poor, over priced and food was also not great either. They forgot my son's cheesy chips and rather be honest and tell us he was left waiting whilst everyone else had food. When it came out it was over cooked and extremely greasy and not edible. When I spoke to manager about service we received she was not welcoming of the feedback and because we are a young family she looked down on us rather than took on board what we had experienced.

Utterly confused! I visited here just over a month ago, and was really impressed with the food! I decided to go here again a few days ago because of my experience the first time round, and it was totally different. I chose to order the Nachos as a starter as they were so good last time, and yet this time they arrived burnt with hardly no salsa or blue cheese dressing on top. Also, last time I ate inside and they were served in a china dish - however the other day I ate them outside and they served them in a flimsy cardboard tray! Many of the nachos were inedible because the melted cheese and nachos had stuck to the cardboard, and trying to dissect them without ending up with a mouthful of Monterrey Jack and cardboard was a pain in bum. I can only assume they don’t trust their customers with metal knives and forks and china crockery outside, but they’re happy to charge the same price! For a main I had Mac n Cheese, which was another cardboard tray of crap. Tasteless macaroni with virtually no cheese sauce on top, not worth a tenner by any stretch of the imagination. Service outside is non existent, the food is dumped on your table in cupboard trays - and if you need anything you have to go to the bar and get it yourself! Utterly ridiculous - you charge the same to eat indoors as eating outside and yet the experience is day and night. Some middle aged woman in a short skirt and cowboy boots served me and she had a face like a dropped pie; not so much as a please, a thank you or even a smile. I asked her for some BBQ sauce, and she gave me HP - took it to the bar and asked for BBQ sauce again and she rolled her eyes at me. I also asked for a Diet Coke with little ice - well what she put in glass was proportionate in size to the bit of ice that sunk the Titanic. Yet again, she looked a little put out when I asked her to do something. Also, it was absolutely rammed inside which is why I chose to eat outside! Apart from some poxy Perspex screen on 1 end of the bar, it seems that there is absolutely no precautions in place whatsoever - staff aren’t wearing a masks, customers are packed in like sardines and tables looked filthy. Overall extremely disappointing as I rated my experience at this restaurant a month ago 4/5 - however after my experience a few days ago, I have no intention to give it another try.

Visited whilst on a weekend away with friends. We all ordered mac n cheese (some with bacon, some with crayfish) and had to send 3 out of the 5 meals back because they were fridge-cold in the middle and lukewarm around the outsides! The staff were apologetic but returned with the same meals that had just been microwaved. We then wanted to order desserts at 21:15 and were told over the bar very rudely (by a lady we later found out was the assistant manager) ‘the kitchen closed at 9’. Disappointing, as 1) we had asked right at the start what desserts they had so that we could decide if we wanted starters or desserts and 2) we wanted to finish our meal and give them more money?! She did come out and say we could have dessert shortly after and actually, it was delicious. Finally, the bill came out with all 5 main courses on, there was no attempt to correct it. I asked the lovely young lady serving us if there was anything she could do seeing as 3 out of 5 meals were inedible and had to be sent back. She checked with the assistant manager who avoided us but told her we could have one dessert (£6) free. This was unacceptable in my eyes seeing as we then had to pay £60 for meals that were cold and below average. There was no apology from the assistant manager at all, no thank you or goodbye when we left. Shocking from a senior member of staff. Overall a really poor experience and we would not return based on this first trip.

Just spent a week nr Chesil Beach and had been told this was a good place to eat.Social Distancing was in place and was fine but the welcome was lacking. Stood at the "wait here" sign for at least 4 minutes whilst 2 employees (management?) continued to chat to one another ignoring us. Eventually told "We're not too busy so find a seat and I will be over to take your order".In the end another member of staff dealt with us. Staff that dealt with us were friendly enough although the attitude of the management obviously rubbed off on them!Food OK although a little on the expensive side - suppose we should have expected that from the location close to the marina were £1m might just buy one of the boats moored there.Sorry, won't be going back there.

We were given our coffees in take away cups.. when questioned she said it’s for sitting outside.. we were not asked if we wanted coffee inside or out... the young girl could not find the soya milk so asked another lady whom looked like she was in charge? She begrudgingly told the girl where it was. When I queried why cardboard cups I was told it’s for going outside .. I reiterated We didn’t want to go outside.. she then huffed! Put into china cups.. gave us our cups of coffee one without milk. Was given a cup with milk in.. when asking if it was the soya it was actually cows milk..She then couldn’t find a jug for the soya milk and gave it me in a cup.. she huffed and slammed the milk in the cup on the counter! We have been to The Boat approximately 4 times for lunch since it opened after lockdown. Whilst the service is fairly good and staff friendly, the quality of food has been disappointing.Considering the restaurant was/is not participating in the eat out to help out scheme and therefore not as busy as many other places and given the menu is really quite limited I expected the food to be top notch. Unfortunately on a previous visit our halloumi fries and calamari were anaemic and today’s sticky rice (vegan 5 bean chilli) was hard and plastic-like. I returned the rice today and was given a new meal. Whilst the rice was definitely an improvement on the first meal it was nowhere near sticky. It’s such a shame as the location is superb; unfortunately the food is not and I’ve heard similar comments.

Waited around 15 minutes for someone to come and clear my table and provide me with the bill, in the end I gave up and paid at the bar. This is the first restaurant I’ve been to since the COVID outbreak, and was a little surprised to see that staff had no PPE at all, and that all tables were still being used - on a busy day I wouldn’t have felt comfortable dining here as tables were very close together! Never been here before and decided to pop in for a drink, walked around the back and saw people drinking on the balcony and found a table and sat down. Within seconds one of the staff said the balcony was closing and we to sit downstairs. We ordered coffees inside at the bar and was told we had to wait for them, there were no details taken for Contact and Trace and there was no PPE. My friend paid contactless and brought the drinks out himself. Just as we started to drink the coffees one of the staff cane out to say we hadnt paid - my friend said he had and heard it ping on the pdq and said please check and if it hasnt gone through he was happy to pay. It started to rain so we decided to go in and sit on a table by the window - the same girl shouted from the behind the bar “you cant sit there it for food only - you need to sit over there by the wall” - there was only one couple on that area at the time. So we moved to the area we were asked. I went to ask for a menu to look at the food and asked if the payment had gone through- the same girl said yes it had and the receipt has fallen on the floor and she has not seen it - at no time did she apologise or explain to my friend who paid, if I had not have asked we would not have known that. A few minutes later the same girl came over and said “just to let you know this table has been booked in am hours time” we clearly thought that our custom was not needed and we left.

We've been coming here pretty much since it opened on a relatively regular basis whenever we come to visit family who live on Portland - always used to be lovely food that was good value. I don't do a lot of reviews - only ever do so as a result of being highly impressed, or seriously disappointed. Sadly this falls into the latter category....Visiting today for the first time in a while, I have to ask what has happened to this place. The food was awful, the chicken was tough as old boots, the prices have rocketed, and they can't even provide proper cutlery or crockery, for which COVID is not an excuse - other restaurants are able to function normally and still maintain a decent level of service and quality. A word of advice - when you put your eating utensils in a dish washer, the heat and detergent sterlises them, you do not need to use poorly functioning wooden and paper disposables due to our current situation.I don't know whether there's been a change of management or ownership, but it's gone from being a really nice place with good quality reasonably priced food to a place that falls way below acceptable standards. My advice to anyone considering going here it to keep well clear - there are other places that will not assault your wallet and stomach like these chancers now do.

Lots of faff ab3us not being able to eat outside,we eventually could, but it took two members of staff tp get this to happen. When the food (see other reviews for the inadequacy of the menu-take your full one off your website please!)was brought over, I asked the waitress to leave it at the end of our table, rather than leaning over me. She giggled (yes giggled, because covid is a giggling matter!) and told me not to worry, before completely ignoring my request and placed it right in front of me. This was completely unacceptable and the staff need to be trained better because the SDing protects the customer and the staff. The food was actually very nice. The dining out experience, at an already difficult time, was ruined by lack of organisation (no visible manager on duty), slow nd poor service (despite the reduced menu) and staff who are tempting fate and ignoring my right to keep myself safe.

We came here to celebrate my friends 40th birthday as we were staying in Portland. We were really disappointed when we sat and were given menus, as we had looked online and planned to have certain dishes for example the moules. However the menu was reduced to a poor selection. Totally understand due to Covid but they should of notified online. They read through the specials in about 10 seconds flat! The meals were pretty basic with not a lot of flavour. Especially for the pricing of each dish being on the Higher end. My friend had the curry and it had blatantly been microwaved and was dry. We found the staff to be exceptionally rude. We actually felt uncomfortable. Doesn’t take a lot to smile and be nice. The only waitress that was nice was the one with red hair. We regretted booking here and it was a huge disappointment especially for a bday.

We spent the day in Portland and was looking for somewhere for lunch when we found this restaurant online and thought we would give it ago. When entering we noticed no staff were wearing masks, visors or gloves, they all looked miserable and when taking orders and bringing orders out staff could not get any closer to customers when leaning over handing people there plates and drinks. When arriving we had told the member of staff there was 4 adults, 2 small children and a baby and was told that was fine, once we had seated we were told the party had to separate to two different tables as with the baby who wasn’t even eating we were over the six guest rule. The food took a long time to arrive and was warm on arrival. One of the orders were sent back several times, because the order was taken down wrongly and on the last time it was brought out 20 minutes after the rest of the table had finished there meal. Apart from the lovely view we can’t think of anything positive to say, even the toilets were in a horrendous state.

booked for a family meal, not asked for any details fir track and trace. No staff wearing masks or visors, but a young male waiter( who looked like he hated his job as he never smiled), with gloves on, but never changed.Food very average- mac and cheese with crayfish ( but told was just prawns), had to be returned as luke warm, the prawns were cold and we removed them before sending back...just reheated in a microwave with a dollop of cheese on top ( no prawns visible so not a new plate of food). Second bottle of wine forgotten about.Chips were cheap and sadly very few....and not even participating in 50% off government deal, so paid over £100 for the experience! More restaurants offering better quality and service in the local area so won't be back .

Visited with a booking during the Covid summer season and all arrangements were in place to keep diners safe. Greeted with a smile and seated with menus. I had the halloumi and red pepper burger which was delicious. Friends I dined with had beef burgers with various topping options and enjoyed them. Another of the group had fish and chips.Portion sizes were good and reasonable for the prices. Nice views/ setting out to the marina.

Sat down for a family meal, everyone got served there food and had to wait 10 mins for the final two meals. Once the meals finally arrived one meal was wrong, it was sent back three time’s as they could not simply do a burger with cheese and no sauce or salad. They then cooked a fresh burger and when it finally came back to the table after everyone else had finished there dinner it was wrong yet again. This was an absolute joke that someone can not read a simple order in the kitchen and get the meal right.

We booked to have dinner here and initially I was impressed with the in and out and queuing system. That's about as far as the CV19 changes go. The seats seem as close as they did last year and some of the staff were so close when serving I wondered if they were going to sit with us! The screen on the bar is completely pointless. One of the staff had the same ripped pair of gloves on all night. And when one table left the cursory wipe of the table was pointless. All that aside the food was tasty and my son said that his chicken burger was the best he has ever had. Portion sizes were decent. I think it's slightly overpriced for what we had but the view and location make a visit worth it. I know that the new changes are hard but they are important and should really be taken more seriously.

The food was good and the staff friendly but it was disappointing that the food took 45 minutes to arrive. It would have been nice to have been warned as it was not particularly busy. Seemed a bit disorganised.

We cycled to Portland early this morning and stopped hoping to have a quick coffee. This bar did not open until 10 but we were early at 9. I went to see what time they opened and was met by a very cheery lady who said they were not open but would make me some drinks anyway. What brilliant service!

Local who doesn’t normally use as has been expensive in the past. Under current ownership gave it a go Friday lunchtime. It was busy and the steak baguette was wonderful. Excellent setting and atmosphere for that something a little bit more special or for those who have the means a definite recommendation. A very good restaurant

Having heard good things we decided to try the Sunday lunch menu. Good first impression, lovely location, pleasant atmosphere, good view. One waitress in particular was smiley and very obliging. Good range of beers, nice menu. The roast beef was tender and tasty, well sourced and well cooked. Ufortunately, the other things on the plate were deeply disappointing. Soggy is the best description. Soggy red cabbage, broccoli that wasn’t overcooked but had been sitting around too long, carrots again been sitting around too long and bits of boiled parsnip... really? The roast potatoes were not brown or crisp and the Yorkshire pudding, which looked impressive, was really eggy and not very nice. Chef needs to check the recipe. Portions were generous and they had all the sauces you could wish for. Come on chaps, the meat is the tricky thing and that was fine. I did feed it back to the barman who kindly took 10% off the bill. Still, not tempted to return for a while.

After a fantastic meal one year ago and having been back subsequent times for coffee, the food today was very poor indeed and did not reflect the prices charged. Our child had Mac and cheese which he would not eat so I decided to try it myself. It was so bland and watery I doubted the presence of any cheese at all and felt it reminded me of something either out of a tin or frozen. At £25.90 for two crab and avocado sandwiches with sweet potato fries, I’d expect something of quality. However, the bread was less than fresh, the majority of crab was the cheaper dark meat and the overall flavour, including the fries was exceptionally bland. At nearly £40 for two sandwiches, a child’s mac and cheese, a coffee, carton of juice and half a pint of beer, we expected far better.

Today me and my colleagues decided to take our clients out, who are living with learning disabilities. We decided to take them to the boat that rocks, when we arrived one our staff members ordered a coffee and a male member of staff corrected him on his coffee choice repeatedly when he requested an Americano. The male who corrected him, approached him in a condescending way and then 5 minutes later, decided to speak negativity of our staff member to a blonde member of staff whilst we could hear them talking behind the bar whilst customers are sitting in the restaurant about his coffee choice. Later on At 12 we decided to order our clients some lunch, we asked if they had a child’s chicken and nuggets or sausages; the blonde lady said look on the menu in a rude manner and was unhelpful and just said we do everything in a child’s portion. Furthermore, the chips were as bad the customer service and when the food was delivered to the table there were no interpersonal skills delivered by the staff members. We felt the staff were continually watching us and talking about us whilst we were feeding our clients, which was off putting.Due to our clients making a mess, we stocked up the plates and cups to help the staff out. Cleaned the table and made sure it was not a mess. One of our clients was aggravated, then decided to become quite challenging and split a tiny bit of her drink on the floor. Which we would have cleaned up when our clients behaviours had improved. The blonde lady came up to our table, when my colleague had gone to the toilet and I was alone with two vulnerable clients; one who was still presenting challenging behaviours. The blonde lady put a bin bag, a disinfectant and some cleaning wipes on the table and said here are the products to clean that up and walked off. I felt as this was demeaning and had a negative impact on the way my clients felt and the atmosphere it had created. I have worked in hospitality before and I have always had to clean others vomit, food particles, spillage and etc. As that is part of the job and I felt as the staff today, did not perform their job positions professionally and lacked the understanding of others living with complex needs. Do not recommend this restaurant to anyone who does not want to feel segregated from society, or spend £12 on a poor meal with even poorer customer service skills with burnt garlic bread. Quite frankly I’ve had better meals from smart price meals from Asda. I would highly recommend that you practice your coffee names before visiting also.

Unfortunately my meal was not good, I had mackerel pate , well the pate wasn't pate it was runny and unpalatable, minimum mackerel and loads of mayo or white stuff that resembled mayo. I did complain and was asked to chose another option this I did simple toast with avocado and cherry tomatoes , drizzled with dressing (can't remember exact title for this dish)

We out sailing for the morning and got back to this bar/restaurant at 2.30 in the afternoon for a small lunch before driving back to south somerset. Well, ordered a veggie panini and a croque measure for me. The food side of the business was not too busy with just 6 tables where people were eating. After 30 minutes waiting I asked how much longer? Told they were very busy I sat and waited some more. After now 40 minutes of waiting I explained to the staff that as a T1 diabetic I would be very grateful if they could hurry things up as I needed to eat very soon. Was told that they were very busy but it would only be a couple of minutes. 5 tables only now were all being served but we are very busy. A further 5 minutes and I was getting a bit concerned, person behind bar acted as though she was unaware of the problems for a T1. At thus point the two plates of snack food arrived. Well the chef needs to go to France to learn what a croque meisure is. Mine came as a slightly warm ham sandwich with a cold slice of some sort of cheese and a thin spreading of something not even close to cheese on top lightly grilled.

A group of us ate here on a Friday night. Took ages for anyone to acknowledge us and find us a table. The order took 50 minutes to arrive and the quality was awful. Specials portions were very small with no included extras that you might expect for the price. Chips were inedible, seemed to be reheated stale chips with a few newly cooked ones added. Staff repeatedly tried to sell us extra drinks all night, even when we obviously all had full glasses, as if they were earning some drinks sales incentive. But not once did anyone ask us if our meals were alright. Absolutely terrible, will never eat there again.

Thanks to Owen for making our bottomless brunch such a fun experience! We had a birthday brunch planned at Slug & Lettuce who unfortunately had to cancel on the morning due to a gas leak. We were really appreciative of Rendezvous being able to get us a booking last minute. Owen was especially helpful as we had some issues with the billing at the end but he was able to sort it out for us. We had a great time and they were even able to offer gluten free options. We would definitely come back for a bottomless brunch again. Thanks Owen!
