Staff more interested in playing darts than serving customers. The food was average, dont waste your time and money here, there are plenty of outlets to choose from that will welcome your custom

Two stars for the location and the price for the beer is good. However, we came in hungry just after 6 p.m. and asked at the bar for a table. Barkeeper told us that dinner is being served at half past 6 and we could pick a spot. So we did. I got irritated when I saw some people already having something to eat, but anyway, we waited patiently until half past 6. When we asked for the menu we were told by a waitress, that they are not doing "drop-in" orders. I drank my beer in one go and got going. Thanks for nothing.

To be honest, one must question the rationale of the operator of this establishment in light of such abysmal service. Being ignored as a customer for nearly 20 minutes, while the staff happily jokes around behind the counter in pairs. Unprofessional, lacking in competence, and that is putting it mildly. We cleared our table ourselves. The neighboring table remained uncleared 30 minutes after the guests had left. Yes, the good view is all that this restaurant has to offer. The rest can easily be discarded. Apologies for the choice of words, but sometimes it is necessary to express things in the clearest manner possible.

We recently dined at this charming spot in Oban with a group of five, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the friendly and attentive service made us feel right at home, striking that perfect balance of being helpful without hovering. We were lucky to visit on a Thursday, in time to get a table for some live Scottish music, which added so much fun and authenticity to the atmosphere. There’s free dance included with the show andI don’t care how shy you are or how much you like dancing, you gotta try it. It’s so much fun! The view over the harbor was simply stunning, especially as we arrived around 18:30 to catch a beautiful sunset. Watching the sun dip behind the mountains across the harbor while enjoying our meal was a real highlight. As for the food, every single person in our party enjoyed their dish! If you're looking for a place in Oban that combines delicious food, great service, local music, and breathtaking views, this is the spot. It’s hard to imagine packing more into such a short visit anywhere else!

On probably the hottest day of 2024 I treated myself to lunch on the terrace. The staff were very attentive recommending a nice Scottish raspberry gin ( always recommend Scottish) to go with my locally sourced fish. Sitting with a view over the bay it was a little piece of paradise. Highly recommended.

Went here for the scottish dancing night on a Thursday. Book in advance as it was at capacity. Views at the venue out to sea are amazing. They have a covered balcony which I’m sure is nice in the warmer days (was bit cold for us but others were enjoying it). The food is honestly mediocre. Low quality pub grub. The local sourced fish is good though mussels and langoustine. Fish and chips were ok and scampy also fine. But you arent going here for the food. Dessert they said was homemade but felt like microwave brownie with some ice cream. Servers were great saw other reviews that they were slow but didnt experience that at all. The 2 guys that were playing scottish music were fantastic. Very patient and allowed everyone to dance and get involved. Dance floor was packed but they managed to get every one to work together. Highly recommend its a one off experience and will unlock a core memory (if you get involved)

We have been at the View during the Ceilidh night. We had a very good dinner before, and then we have experienced very good live music and we have also learned some steps of this typical Scottish dance. Highly recommend if you are in Oban.

We arrived to a dirty table, which they only cleaned after requests and in an unprofessional way (they only took the dirty dishes without a tray and didn’t wipe the table). The waitress was uninterested and not at all attentive. The drinks were slow to arrive even though the restaurant was almost empty and the way she brought out the food was unfriendly.

We went to try the food it was very nice. Then we came back for the Ceilidh night the dancing and the music made it a very enjoyable night.There was a pool table. Kid-friendly

This restaurant offers a lovely view of Oban Bay. Most of our dishes were good except the Caesar salad which I don't recommend, the chicken had no taste and the dish was frankly not filling for a main course. The homemade peanut butter cheesecake was delicious, however, as were the mussels. The fries are probably frozen, no point. Macaroni and cheese is served with fries or garlic bread; a good salad would have been more suitable. Potential to be exploited with good refreshing, especially the toilets. The floors appear dirty, which is a shame. But I understand from the other comments that it is a place for dancing. The waitresses were very friendly but spoke a little quickly for us French people 😅. We found it to be a bit expensive compared to the quantities served and other restaurants visited in Scotland.

This place looked like it had potential. I was honestly very disappointed. A poor selection of drinks behind the bar, unappetising food, and very poor table service. Such a nice balcony view over the bay. A little more effort, better drink selection, and better food would transform this place.

From the balcony you have a beautiful view of the harbor. We had a quick meal there, because we didn't have much time. Nice service.

We sat on the outside terrace on our last evening in Scotland. It was nice to watch the sunset.

Beautiful city on the water. Had a lovely evening with lots of live music and delicious Guinnes and Cyder. Once you get past the traffic, it's a friendly city.

I was massively disappointed in my servers suggestion. The scampi, while tasting fresh from the sea, was breaded and presented in a fresh off the Sysco truck. I should have ordered the langustines. I saw another noisy table get them and it much more representative of Oban than this

Great service and great food. Called in for drinks and stayed for evening meal. Table service was brilliant and very friendly staff. Special starters were excellent and highly recommended.

I reserved a table for dinner and tickets to the dancing for my mum, my daughter, and I. Mum grew up in Glasgow dancing with my grandmother, so I wanted the night to be wonderful for her. The table we were sat in was wedged between 2 other tables, and the guests to our right stepped on us a dozen times. They say the dancing is small groups, but the room is fairly small, so it started nice, but eventually was so crowded we left before 9. People were just coming in off the streets and joining, and 2 VERY drunk young men chased a few people off the dance floor with their antics. Flailing about and running into everyone. The food was really good, and the musicians were wonderful, as well the young highland dancer. Maybe my expectations were set too high, but most of the pictures and reviews I saw looked lovely. I would not recommend paying ahead for tickets to the dance. Show up and join if you'd like. Cheers.

Highly recommend...the Ceilidh was one of the highlights to our trip to Scotland! Very kid friendly. The food & drinks were delicious, great service, & the music and dancing made it a night we won't forget.

This place could be fantastic as it has a prime site looking over the water and lovely balcony.we ordered breakfast which took over an hour to come and the egg Benedict was horrible cheap sliced ham and a cheap commercial excuse for hollandaise sauce

Food good the young waiter who served is was very personable and efficient. Would recommend. They need some sort of service at the door to guide visitors on a first come first serve basis.

1st time here. Food was good and reasonably priced. We booked a lunch but staff seemed unaware we had but, thankfully, we did get a seat. If in Oban again we may be back.

Best views over Oban Bay with excellent food. The outdoor terrace definitely deserves 5 stars, but the indoor area doesn't. A dance evening with traditional Scottish music takes place there regularly and everyone can join in. You could also enjoy the fun that everyone involved had while sitting. It was really nice to see how much joy and togetherness young and old had at the dances and that these Scottish traditions are still maintained.

Magnificent bar/restaurant with a clear view of Oban Bay! Little extra on Thursday there are Scottish dance classes, atmosphere guaranteed!

Stopped in for some pints and was well taken care of by a very kind staff. The views are the best in town and they had some live music and dancing going on, it was wonderful entertainment and a really great time.

If you’re around on Mondays and Thursdays stop by for the Ceilidh night! It was worth every pence. The band and the atmosphere are whimsical. If you haven’t done Ceilidh before do not fret, they walk you through it all —you’ll be a pro by the end of the night. Thank you for giving a bunch of gals a good time and a true taste of Scottish tradition.

Nice place, and the food was good but not what we expected. We had checked the menu online before booking, but this was not the menu we were given when we arrived. We were a little disappointed at this.

The best location for the perfect fish and chips. Our server, Claire was really friendly and helpful. The place was quiet on our midweek visit, but the view does live up to it's name. The ideal spot for sun-downers on the terrace watching the sun dip down beyond the hills.

Just as the name suggests,this restaurant The View has the best situation for solo walkers in particular. The covered terrace, with comfortable tables let's you eat in peace while seeing the ferries come and go. Writers also will be assured of inspiration. Go early for lunch, because the food is so good!!

Our Family had a Fabulous dinner and after, we had the disco, we we're most impressed with the level of service and our food was excellent. Whole experience was a bad shock. Booked a table for 16 people. We all attended, no menus on table. A young lad put 10 menus in middle of the table for us to hand our ourselves!? We're certainly paying enough for you to hand these out to us. The menus were so dirty, and crumpled, just Gross! And when the food came, it was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Obviously using the dirtiest oil in the kitchen.. and just 3 lettuce slices for a side salad!? None of us will ever come here again. Huge waste of money, and disappointed for a 30th Birthday Celebration.

The food was very good. The problem was that the younger waitress dark long hair with Kraken hoodie absolutely not cares about the clients. Each time she let the door wide opened when it was freezing cold outside. We had to close minimum 10 times after her which spoiled the lunch. For sure, next time we come to Oban we won't eat there

Food is good value and good size portions. We did, however, waited a good while for our orders to come and it was not that busy. Great views from the restaurant. Service was not as expected. The server just placed our drinks in the middle of the table for us to get them. Also, my friend asked for sugar for her coffee and the young server threw 2 sachets across the table. When asked what the soup of the day was, she did not know so went back to ask.

Jemma kindly helped us to organise and host a funeral wake at The View. You can hire the whole space with the best views across Oban Bay. It is the perfect setting to gather friends and family to celebrate the life of a loved one. Connor and Claire were very attentive on the day, making sure we all had everything we needed. The catering provided by The View was great, with plenty of choices. Jemma made sure the tables were configured how we requested. The staff at The View went above and beyond to make sure we could give our loved one the send off they deserved. This space could be equally special for other events such as weddings, Christenings and private parties.

Great central location with lovely food at a great price.

Extremely rude and incompetent staff who won't take responsibility for their mistakes. 1) I had to run around after them to finally place my order, as they didn't bother coming to the table. 2) They said they'd get my food out for a certain time, when I asked. But then they didn't. Even, when I asked if I could have the food by a certain time, they were very catty about answering the question 3) They tried charged me for the food they failed to bring. The male server insisted I should pay for it, even though they couldn't get it to me when they said they could. I repeatedly told him the female server had told me they could get the food ready in time, and yet they failed. 4) Finally, the female server admitted she failed to take the food off the bill. The male server who was doubling down on their mistake did not apologize. Another female server did. I paid for my drinks and left. TL;DR - the staff ruined my lunch and nearly ruined my day. Not only do the staff lack basic hospitality skills, but they also do not take responsibility for their mistakes and try to blame customers.

Absolutely terrible customer service no one approached you on arrival we had to find to someone and when we spoke to a member of staff she told us for food it will be an hour for a table without even checking while as we left the restaurant checked online we could book a table within 15 minutes. This is my reason for the 1 star so I won't even try to dine there and will be telling others also

We were visiting from the US and had such a fun evening at our first Ceilidh! Dancing and music were a blast. Highly recommend!

Came specifically because of the menu board out on the sidewalk. Looked like a good selection so we tried it tonight. Our server, Catriona was so welcoming. She came and told us that the kitchen food was backed up, but we chose to wait. The wait was longer than hoped for, but our food was hot and delicious. It was my first time trying haggis, neeps and tatties.. and the entree was delicious. Even though they were short staffed, and under a lot of pressure to serve many people, Catriona never looked flustered, but smiling and positive. She’s a gem!

Went for lunch and dinner amazing experience staff were so welcoming on both experiences and food was amazing. The only down fall at dinner time few things we pick for dinner was not available so made picking harder but still amazing. Definitely be back. Keep up the amazing work

Had a lot of fun ceilidh dancing on Thursday. The atmosphere was good and the beer was as well.

Absolutely stunning view from the balcony. We arrived before the rush hour for a drink or two and it was pleasant. We got food their and it was great. My partner ordered the soup and it was at a good standard. My haggis, neeps and tatties were great as well. We hung around after dinner, drinking on the balcony, admiring the sunset. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was vibrant!

Best scampi I have ever had, and the view is amazing.

The only positive thing about the restaurant is the view onto the sea, that is pretty nice. However the employees are extraordinarily unfriendly. We had the feeling they disliked every customer coming in as it means work for them. On top of that they closed two hours earlier. They simply came to us and told us that we have to leave now without prior notice. Definitely cannot recommend!

We went there on a Monday night at 8:00pm because there was a ceilidh on (£10pp). It was great fun to watch. Bar was open throughout. Recommend it.

Delicious food and phenomenal views over looking Oban, the bay and the isles surrounding. Great service from the staff. We had Haggis / Burger and Mussels as mains all of which were devoured. Good price overall wished we could have stayed for the evening entertainment (end of our holiday and time to go home)

Very tasty burgers, mac and cheese, and sweet chili panini. The place is a bit understaffed but service is friendly if a bit slow (which is understandable). Definitely recommend for those visiting Oban.

Excellent view especially on a sunny day which we've been blessed with on our visits. The beer is good as well. Poor service lets it down. The bar staff serve you and ignore you. Much rain have a chat when they're pouring with some local soak at the bar. You're ambassadors for Oban and Scotland talk to you're customers.

Absolutely delicious food, DOG friendly and lovely staff. Definitely recommend the Cullen Skink and Haggis Fritter for starter and the chicken balmoral for main.

For what looks like a sports bar (and a good one) the menu is sublime and fantastic value with great views. I had the mushroom stroganoff, my gf the mussels. Really recommend.

Was looking forward to visit here but left feeling let down . First of all got there and seated and after 5 mins was asked about drink which brought over 5 mins later and dumped in table I felt . After another 5 mins the waiter came and took order for food and informed us at the time they were several dishes not on menu as not had any products for them and do mind this was at 6pm so am early dinner . Anyway since one of the meals not available we wanted we had to quickly try think of something to have and gave out order in . After 15 mins the waiter came back of to tell us they was no scampi left either so son had to pick out another meal. Anyway 10 mins later the meals arrived and my steak pie was pretty good to be fair and sons fish and chips was decent also and he devoured it anyway but wife’s meal of chicken barmoral felt hers was not he best at all , the chicken was ok but potatoes had strange texture and taste to them so she never enjoyed it . Also forgot to mentioned that myself and wife had our meal and had to wait further 5 mins before they brought out sons . Anyway after we ate we were going get a dessert but out plates sats on our table for over 30 mins and no one came to clean them away and take order for desserts so it got to point for me where I went to till and just payed bill then we left . This did leave a feeling of disappointment from the place so not be back.

We went to The View in Oban for dinner and a Ceilidh. The Ceilidhs looked to be on a couple of times a week. We went on a Monday night. It was busy and really good fun. We had food first around 6.30 meaning we had a table for the rest of the night. The food was good, scampi, steak and sausage pie and a burger. The ceilidh started at 8pm. A brilliant evening. The piper and dancer were amazing and the accordion player / caller was a brilliant player but also great at explaining the dances and calling. There was so much laughing during the night. No experience required as you were talked through what to do. Lots of people from all over the world were there and having fun. The ceilidh was 2 hours and there were a couple of breaks where the piper played some great tunes while a Scottish dancer entertained us with her brilliant dancing. Would definitely book for the ceilidh if you are anywhere near Oban. The sunset from the balcony was also pretty good too 😀 Thank you all at The View for a really enjoyable night.

We ate here before a ceilidh. The food was good. The service was OK but a little slow. The ceilidh was the highlight of our week. Good music, loads of dancing and a great atmosphere with people from all over.

The atmosphere was great. The dancing was fun. However, the service was not available. We waited 30 min to order food and we had to approach a server ourselves to order. I would suggest giving the staff more training.

Just popped in without reservation on a ceilidh - night - and had a GREAT TIME! Food is good, served quickly with a friendly smile. Would definitely go back here!

Room with a view of the port and the sea, also equipped with an outdoor terrace. The ceilidh evening (typical Scottish dance) was very nice and engaging, but they often also play DJ-type music.

What an awesome fun night. The two gentlemen playing and calling the steps were amazing. A must do when in the area.

Not happy when balcony closed at 10 o'clock. Nice warm night looking over the harbour .

Hiked up all the stairs and went into the first door, empty seating / bar area, continued to the next door which opened to the eating area.. was unsure of setup but basically you pick a seat and the waiting staff come to you… 10 or 15 minutes later, then had to wait 10 more on drinks and even longer on food… Ordered two panini’s so unsure how they took so long, they were ok, hullumi fries and onion rings were sickening with the greasy batter. Had to laugh at the waitress on the way out telling new customers they wouldn’t be taking new orders for another 10 minutes until the mains for a big table were out but they could order drinks.. - we waited more than that anyway lol The only thing worth talking about is the view from sitting on the balcony!! Would not go back here nor promote to other people.

Waited an hour and all the food was over cooked. Ordered a rare rump steak and got a burnt sirloin steak. But the wait staff were good.

Great view, believe it or not, helpful staff and good food they do a nice drop of pinot too.

Food took over an hour to arrive, waiters not really available. Fish was burnt, then we were told it was taken off the bill, had to pay it anyway.

Great wee place to have lunch and chill with a game of pool, all the staff that we spoke to were nice, nice clean place and clean toilets. Lovely food too
