Blacks of Dunoon in Argyll & Bute

A fantastic bakers with a take away and sit in area. There is a broad range of food, drinksand baked goods. The staff are all lovely. We've become regulars since moving to the area recently. Highly recommend!

Having wandered around Dunoon, we found this little gem of a place for some lunch. It was exceptionally busy with queues for both sit in and takeaway orders but we managed to find a table for two and ordered our food. We had freshly made morning rolls - a coronation chicken and a tuna mayonnaise. They are made at the counter while you wait and were delicious. The staff were friendly and the prices amazing, so reasonable. There were lots of delicious looking cakes and pastries too.

Went for breakfast, burnt bacon, over cooked sausage and black pudding. The egg however was drastically under cooked, yoke and white were gooey the top of the white was actually translucent! Tried to eat some of the egg but eventually gave up it was so under done, as a result found myself unwell that evening!

Fast service at lunchtime, even though it was busy.

Pity there isn't a better choice of artisan breads - only ordinary rolls left at 12.45 on a weekday which was disappointing. Nowhere in Dunoon bar the supermarkets can you get different types crusty rolls, sourdough, fresh crusty baguettes, granary / multigrain loaves and rolls.

On holiday and called in today for cake and coffee. Was so nice we went back for lunch. Very nice 😍

Went in for a coffee and was tempted by the cakes, unfortunately it was the driest iced finger bun I've ever had, it was stoatin! Please don't sell stale items, you must know how long they have been sitting there. Not a great advert for visitors.

Come to Dunoon for holiday. Found this nice little coffee shop in town. Nice and tidy. Food is ok but pastries is nice. Price is good and reasonable.

Very tasty food for a good price.

To be fair, we only went in for takeout cakes. We had been told that the cakes were quite exceptional. We ordered two pieces of cake and a variety of scones, which we took back to where we were staying. To our disappointment, nothing we bought was in the slightest exceptional. All the cakes and scone were quite dry We'd bought for four people, and none of us finished what we'd bought. The total for our purchases totalled £11.00 To be honest, it was a real waste of money. We won't be returning as we don't live in the area. But, if we did live nearby I'm sure we'd look elsewhere.

Great little cafe and bakery shop on the High Street in Dunoon. First impressions were very good. Staff friendly and attentive. My husband and myself had coffee/cake and both were delicious. Great price too! Recommended.

I'm sure this used to trade under a different name , when many moons ago i used to visit with my mum on day trips" Doon the Watter". It had an old fashioned tearoom interior No matter, it has had a total remodernising refurb which thankfully has not changed the food quality or service. It still has amazing Sandwiches, pies, cakes and traybakes and lovely tea in teapots. Today we enjoyed, almond cake with hazelnut praline filling and iced fruit cake or as the locals call it "Flies Cemetery "😂 Still marvellous and well worth a visit.

Food is great, so friendly staff. Love the cream yum-yums 😋

I endulged in the scooby delicacy and it didn't dissapoint, £4 is the average price to pay for such a treat these days so I just want to say thank you for keeping your prices affordable and for providing great quality treats for the local community. Keep it up guys 😁 PS Whoever invented the scooby please give them my upmost gratitude for it has helped me through some really though times. Blacks of Dunoon remains the only place you can find a scooby therefore I tend to go into a deep mode of depression when you can't provide me with such a treat lots of love Scooby Doo

Found it looking for somewhere to have a coffee had latte and cake x took some rolls out to eat later and they were delicious plenty of filling went in a couple of times during our stay in dunoon

The food is cheap and very tasty. the shop was a bit chaotic but that didn't hinder the excellent food for the price.

Food is excellent service is great staff are hard working except the owners daughter who stood in the back both times I was there bent over on her mobile phone very unprofessional and unfair to the rest of the team because she is the owners daughter she gets away with it apart from that I would recommend it for eating

We both visited this extremely busy bakers while visiting the local area, the shop itself appeared to be very clean and popular with the locals, the pies were tasty and well seasoned, the cakes were delicious, we both would have no problem in recommending this establishment to anyone.

I visited my favourite T room/ bakery, or cafe [whatever u want to call it] on Friday 21/4/23 at around 12.30pm & had their lentil soup which could have been a tad thicker BUT the baked tattie 🥔 was spot on. I had beans & pickle on it even though pickle wasn't on the menu to accompany the beans and i could even eat all the skin on my baked potato, which in some other eating establishments one can't (because the skin is tough) & the side salad wasn't too bad either. My friend had a fried egg on a roll & she said that the roll was lovely & wasn't at all chuch (tough)

It's a bakery with a cafe, nothing fancy but decent quality food. Would be happy to come back again.

A Dunoon institution. My son loves the lentil soup and makes me bring him one everyday in the holidays. Cakes, pies and sausage rolls they have the lot.

Disappointed that they have nothing gluten-free.

Speedily served with tea, toastie and a cake from a big selection. What's not to like.

Was ok. Wee bit cramped and at the time we visited limited choice at the sweeter end of the bakery spectrum. Also a wee bit heavy handed with the coffee syrup. But otherwise fine for a quick coffee and snack

The table layout is a little cramped and the place could do with a facelift. They do not really cater for vegetarian/vegans either.

This is the first time i have visited this place on holiday in Scotland. We found a nice of coffee shop to have lunch which was very nice and the staff were very nice people.

I had Lorne sausage on a well fired roll for the first time in many years as I live overseas. The food was good quality, as was the service. The shop was clean and tidy. Good place for a no frills bite to eat.

As cafes go it was ok. Lentil soup was good but next visit there was only veg broth and it was not something I will try again

Just got off the ferry and needed a bacon butty and stumbled upon this little gem. Great service, all very quickly dealt with and food was hot and tasty with all Covid restrictions adhered to👍🏼 Recommended for a light bite☕

Waited, waited and waited to be served at counter. 3 people standing about doing nothing. They obviously don't need the custom or the money. Diabolical service. Won't be back even if they offered it free. Would give it no stars if I could.

Having come off the ferry hungry for some lunch we enjoyed a toadtie, cake and coffee at a reasonable price. Very clean, all Covid friendly and staff friendly. Would recommend it.

I ate lunch at Black of Dunoon on 25 November. The macaroni pie, iced doughnut and flavoured water were excellent. The service was the best in Dunoon.

Wow, my partner and I were visiting family and we had breakfast here.This place is an absolute gem and the breakfast was lovely.My partner is Lithuanian and he tells me that the scottish Veg soup he had is just like the soup they make at home.We will be back next year!

3 star clean place to go for a T and cake

Had lunch here while in Cowal for the highland gathering. The home made soup was delicious. Thick and hearty. A buttered roll was included. Next had a steak pie . It was lovely. Tasty and juicy.

Nice food to sit in always busy

Stopped in here on a rainy afternoon when we were about to depart Dunoon. We ordered desserts - chocolate eclairs, slice of cake, and a delicious scone. Service was fast and we were able to grab a table before they started getting crowded for lunch. They do offer burgers and other lunch items for reasonable prices. Still the same cozy atmosphere that I remember from 30 years ago. Happy to see the scones are exactly how I remember them!

Popped in at lunchtime. Great value filled rolls and cakes. Quick friendly service. Good choice on the menu for a tasty lunch.
