This is a great restaurant and reasonably priced for what you get. My only complaint is that it was not spicy enough compared to other Indian restaurants I’ve been to in the UK.

Tried this little gem last night for the first time. And I was amazed at how good it was. I ordered the Lamb Pathia with Pilau rice and it was the best curry I've had in years. The lamb was tender and generous portions. My partner order the Special tandoori Balti and it was also excellent. Will be going here from now. By far and away, the best curry house in York and possibly even further afield.

The rice had no flavour, the curry was watery and the food arrived cold. Extremely disappointed will never be purchasing or recommending to anyone.

We came to York and fancied something to eat and the viceroy with the first place we came to was the viceroy went to as if we needed to book and table . We told to sit and they would see what they could do. I did not feel that the staff were very friendly towards . After a short wait we were shown to a table but the kitchen door . We asked for soke water that tasted funny . We had some pomperdoms the veg had seen better days . When the main meal arrived. My partners meal was not great the rice was stuck together and her curry was not much better and she left most of it. My curry waa not much better has very little flavour. I found the staff rude and not very welcoming at all the food was substandard and I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Had a very enjoyable evening meal with a group of work colleagues at The Viceroy, York. Had poppadoms and pickle tray which were superb. My main course was Desi Keema Masala which was absolutely top level Indian food. Well spiced and very fresh. I also had a garlic naan and pilau rice, plus a pint of Kingfisher lager. Good value considering the high level of service and the very high standard of food. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a quality Indian dining experience.

After being point blank refused by another restaurant because we had a guide dog we tried here and so glad we did the staff was great didn’t bat an eyelid about the dog and put us at a table where the guide dog had enough room to lay down the staff was welcoming and couldn’t help us enough the food was absolutely lovely and would definitely be our favourite pick to go for an Indian whenever we’re back in the area

Disappointing Experience at The Viceroy I visited The Viceroy recently with a friend and was left feeling quite disappointed by the experience. From the moment we sat down, the service felt indifferent. Not once were we asked if we were enjoying our meal or if everything was okay, which is something I'd expect at any restaurant, especially when it wasn’t particularly busy. I ordered the Murgi Masala and specifically requested it to be made mild, as stated when I ordered. Unfortunately, the waiter was less than accommodating, insisting it should be served medium hot "for the flavours." Despite my clear preference, the dish arrived as medium hot, and as a result, I could hardly eat it. Yet, when our plates were cleared, no one asked why I had left so much of the food untouched. On a positive note, we started with the pickle tray, which I enjoyed, and my friend found his Chicken Balti to be acceptable, but overall, the meal and service fell short of expectations. I had hoped for a more customer-focused experience, but sadly that wasn't the case.

Probably the best Indian in York! Excellent takeaway and also well worth a visit!

Friendly delivery driver, food was hot and delicious as always! Chicken tikka masala with plain rice and poppadoms is always 10 out of 10, my go to Indian atleast once a week.

the courier was going to deliver to 26A the leyes osbaldwick.we live at 26 not 26A,which is on the other side of the road.we were made to think we were in the wrong when we told him.to be honest I was abit annoyed with the way he spoke to us.No problem with the meal.it was all very nice.Thankyou.

Waited 3 hours for delivery and after ringing the restaurant was told my meal had been ready for collection but no drivers had come for it from just eat. Disgusting service

6 of us tired up with no booking. Seated in the waiting area for around 10 minutes, where out drinks orders were taken. We were then seated, ordered and food arrived promptly. Really good Lamb Tharwa, plus garlic Naan. Not mind blowingly amazing food, but good and fairly cheap. Not my first time here, and certainly won't be the last.

Ordered food from Just Eat, arrived very very quickly, very hot and to die for delicious. This is the first time ive ever tried this restaurant, my parents love it and have eaten here many times but i decided to take the chance tonight and im so glad i did. The driver was lovely aswell. Will definitely be ordering from here again very soon. We ordered Chicken tikka masala (mine), Chicken pathia (my dads), naan breads, rice and poppadoms, not the cheapest restaurant around but definitely worth the increase in price and will happily continue to pay the prices as i think it may be one of the best indian places ive eaten in York.

Best Indian in the city! Have been going for years and never had a bad experience.

Instantly greeted with rudeness. My girlfriend and I ran 10 minutes late due to traffic and when I said the name of the booking, the staff member looked at his watch in disgust and murmured something in an unnecessarily rude tone. Food was lovely but unfortunately it was let down by the staff. We felt rushed when ordering and weren’t feeling very welcome, also felt we were under constant surveillance as there was simply too much staff wandering around at once. We then witnessed a staff member talking to another member of staff about us and being rude and homophobic. Again, even though food was tasty, would not visit again due to the overall unwelcoming feeling and sheer rudeness and unfriendly behaviour.

Always great food! Wasn't deliverdd as hot this time, but usyally it's still piping hot.

So, we had a takeaway (deliveroo) gorgeous meals but the stand out was Fish Karachi (no doubt spelt wrong) and actually thought I had ordered Masala Fish..... Nope, Fish Karachi arrived.... Bloody beautiful, slight spicy kick but gorgeous what a happy error in our ordering... Highly recommend this dish and ps food hot when it arrived x

Food was lovely until I bit down on a huge bone. It's actually hurt my tooth, I was not expecting bones in my food. Sorry, but had to mention, everything else was lovely.

Food absolutely spot on. Put a couple of requests in the box for delivery, Eg extra mint sauce, arrived with everything I had asked for, and quick delivery.

Can’t comment on the food but the staff are very friendly and are very honest about their kitchen not being safe for people with allergies (better safe than sorry). Was part of a large group so they let me bring food in from elsewhere so I didn’t miss out. Even offered to warm it up for me. Food looked great and service was brilliant, plenty of staff on hand checking up on us offering drinks etc.

These curries were not the nicest we’ve ever had. I wish I ordered from The Raj like normal. My ‘mild’ curry was very spicy and I usually get this curry from any Indian restaurant I go to so I know this is mild and I like it. The sauce for both curries were very watery. The popadoms were bland and didn’t come with the usual accompanying sauces and onions. I wish I never ordered from here and stuck to The Raj!!

Order arrival time dropped a little, so early against initial estimate, which just means curry, quicker.

First time visit, first two courses came at break-neck speed, thought we were in a speed-eating competition. Mains was more relaxed.

The atmosphere was very lively, classy and great scenery. Staff were quick and efficient service.

This is a fantastic Indian restaurant, the best in York by a clear margin. The food is very good and the menu is massive, so there is something for everyone. It is also very reasonably priced and service extremely prompt, including for larger parties. The staff are what makes this place; they are proactive and friendly, including having banter with the customers. You can see why they have so many regular customers. The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars is because the decor is a bit dated.

The driver went to wrong location outside another building, claimed to have called me despite me receiving no calls, and was extremely rude at meeting up after I walked all the way to him, saying that he would have taken the food for himself if it was not Indian food

First time using viceroy after numerous people telling me they’re probably the best out of all the Indian restaurants in York. And they were right. Best jalfrezi I’ve had. It was also massive and had loads of chicken in it. Very flavourful and the best was perfect. Absolutely ordering from here again.

Came to visit my aunt , Absolutely amazing food , best I’ve had in a very long time , service impeccable and friendly , beautiful clean restaurant decor very nice . Will be back !!!

If you want a decent in Indian meal, go to Viceroy. If a group of 3 or more you should try the 'family' Naan!

Was not happy .we got a take away lots of bits where missing from are order.we phoned and the response was .can you come to the restaurant. Um we just ordered cuz we didn't wanna go out. Its there mistake so why couldn't take come and drop the missing food off. I'd give a big 0 for customer service

We ordered dal and a paneer dish. Dal was decent and paneer was bad. It was too sweet for our taste.

I ordered two chicken kormas as a birthday treat for a friend and myself. The food was excellent, fresh and hot. Complete with a garlic naan it was delicious, thank you. l would definitely order from you again and perhaps be a little more adventurous next time.
