A solid decent meal post-drive to Edinburgh. We'd just arrived so were feeling tired but hungry, and the Veranda restaurant did its job. Good service eased a pretty pedestrian meal, but we did enjoy it. And the wine was pretty good too! Decent pastas and many of the dishes featured a smattering of 'traditional Scottish' fare eg haggis, salmon etc. The cheese plate was a bit ordinary, but hey ho: not our primary objective!

We enjoyed breakfast and dinner in the restaurant each day of our stay. The buffet breakfast was of good quality with good choices of cereals, porridge and cooked items which were always hot. The dinner menu had new items each day and again the quality was excellent.

Disgrace.. Stopped off for lunch, and a £70 bill later we were extremely disappointed with the service and food we received. One child's meal (spaghetti booognese) came with macaroni pasta and very dried up bolognese. It looked horrendous and tasted worse, my daughter couldn't eat so we sent it back as not spaghetti bolognese as asked for! Weren't offered an alternative kids meal so I said I would share mine with her. My son had macaroni cheese which again was unedible, pasta was hard and crusty throughout so yet again he shared my meal. Had to pay in full before we even received a drink! Then rudely interrupted during food to receive a £7.50 refund for spaghetti bolognese (that wasn't spaghetti) No gesture to even take off my meal as I had to share it with 2 children. Husbands food was only luke warm and flavourless considering the hefty price we expected so much more than this! Standard I wouldn't even expect from pub grub, intact way even below that standard. Steer clèer at all costs.

Decided to eat in the restaurant as we were staying at the hotel. Very inflexible eating arrangement, they have two sittings, one at 6.00pm and one at 8.00pm, they will not consider you arriving at your table at any other time (we asked for another time at reception when we checked and we’re told this was not possible, as they have always worked this way). The hotel is about 20mins walk out of town, so not a great choice to go elsewhere if you are not mobile. The two sittings arrangement means there is a Ryanair boarding type queue at the restaurant at the start of each sitting. The cattle class experience continues as you are allocated the next table in the row as you reach the head of the queue. Once at your table the cattle class experience continues as a waiter works his way around the tables pouring out tap water into the glasses, you are not asked if you want an alternative. Another waitress follows behind from table to table taking your wine order, this is before you have been given the opportunity to chose your food from the menu. We felt that if you didn’t book your wine at this wine slot, you won’t have another opportunity. At this point, feeling really uncomfortable with what we were witnessing, we decided we would not continue with the experience and left without ordering food. We then tried their other eating venue, the Stag’s head bar, and although understaffed the waitress, Megan, (only one on duty) tried her best to keep on top of things, food in the bar was good and she was very pleasant. The hotel is very imposing, well decorated and equipped, it is just a shame how they currently manage their dinner arrangements, i understand that this arrangement probably fits their staffing levels but does not provide a good customer experience.

We dined here on two evenings in a row. The first was excellent goof service and good food. We were impressed how COVID aware they were and how good the staff were. They were efficient and friendly. However, on the second night whilst the service appeared to be the same, my husband had an an incident with a member of staff.  He had ordered a Diet Coke, as per the previous night. When the drink arrived, it appeared to be a Coke.  When we checked the bottle, it said Coke, 100% Sugar Free, but it was not Diet Coke or Coke Zero.  He enquired with Laura, who had served us until then.  He enquired about the drink saying he ordered a Diet Coke but that he had not been brought a Diet Coke.  She said it had no sugar so it was the same.  She was quite stroppy about it and she was even more unhappy when I said it might be Sugar Free, but it does not taste the same.  I was tempted to say if someone ordered an Espresso, would you bring them a Latte, and say well it is all coffee.  However, I was put off when she went on to say I wrote down the same as last night and so they must have run out and walked off. The encounter with Laura spoiled what would have been an excellent evening, she never came near out table again.

Food was amazing ,drinks came after meal,waiter with hat very professional, best burger ever and ruabarb with meringue passion fruit sauce a brilliant combo,only other feed back toilets ,two out of order and very shabby ,I usually heck out toilet before I eat as no excuse for poor toilets ,hopefully when I return they will have been given makeover,otherwise possibly my favourite eateries in perth !

Just visited the Birnam Brasserie Brunch for the first time. Amazing selection of food to choose from, couldn't try it all. My husband loved his steak main course which had a delicious sauce. I had the salmon dish which was very heavy with egg, very salty and not that great. Would have preferred a simple welcome drink of champagne and not the artichoke spritz on offer. The singer was good but far too loud, whereas the saxophonist was absolutely fantastic and perfect for the ambience. Why have waiting staff in jeans? This is really a no no. Our waitress gave us fantastic service and made us feel very welcome. Overall it was a wonderful experience and will return in the future.
