Went Saturday afternoon very quiet and relaxed atmosphere, warm fire and some games of pool,friendly owners

Went for a roast today 27/10/24 brilliant food excellent service will definitely be back for another 5⭐️

Had an amazing roast dinner here, first time trying the food and it did not disappoint, decently priced and amazing portion, 10/10 would recommend, such a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff,

We asked to stop overnight in the car park in our campervan after another site let us down at the last minute. Lovely welcome and no problems staying after a few drinks. We will definitely come back to stay again and have food.

We went for the Sunday roast today, the food was so tasty. The staff were really attentive towards us, we took our dog with us and they all gave her lots of fuss and treats aswell. She will definitely want to come back. Their Yorkshire pudding were probably the best I've ever had! Choosing a desert was so difficult because they all looked so good! We went for the fudge cake and biscoff cheesecake and oh my were they STUNNING, so delicious. We will definitely be going back 😋

Thank you all for an Amazing night we arranged a 18th Birthday party and the bar staff Louise,Adam and simba was amazing!! Very good, before taking the boat to France we had a good evening. The welcome was very very good.

Stopped overnight in our camper van as the pub welcomes BritStops. Staff were exceptionally friendly and even came out to check if dinner options suited us. Food choice was limited mid week but delicious and home made. Apparently their Sunday roasts are amazing.

Thought we would try here for a change, my friend and I ordered 2 turkey dinners, after I asked how the beef came, reply was its cooked 🤔my friends meal came out, then we were asked did we order two meals 🙃 my meal came 30mins later, staff very apologetic. Unfortunately potatoes hard and dinner cold. We were not charged for meals. Ordered coffee no coffee. Very bad experience.

Lovely pub. Waitress was very attentive as was the hostess. Food was delicious, plentiful. We had a vegetarian roast and a pork roast with a side of pigs in blankets. The sausages were the best I have ever eaten. The bill was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Really sad 😞 my food was cold , they had no other choices other than Roasts one member of our party didn’t eat , I told my waitress my dinner was cold and she just walked away, asked for Brandy and coke , she just brought me a coke but then tells us they didn’t have any Brandy , as a local we would have supported this business, but with the service and the food, I dont think we will return, but I wish them luck for the future and maybe these points can be taken on board

We had a delicious roast today cooked by the lovely Zara. Would 100% recommend this pub for good food and atmosphere.

This is a family owned pub and a very nice place. They had just lost their cook, so dinner was out for us. This is such a shame because they are lovely people, so if there are cooks out there who would like a job, give them a call

Not sure what we experienced at the Valiant Sailor. I've heard good things, but also heard that they changed hands recently, so I am going to assume they haven't found a chef yet. The food was very basic with no apparent training involved. STARTERS: The Buffalo wings were nice, but obviously frozen type, with a bottled sauce. I could have done a huge plate of those! Very tasty. The nachos, however were very bland. They were very thin and oily, no bubbles on the surface, which gave no texture. Were they supposed to be deep fried, but dropped into oil that wasn't hot enough? This wasn't the only issue, they were served with slightly melted, grated mild cheddar cheese; not mozzarella for stringiness or anything with flavour. There was small pieces of pan fried chicken breast meat, but nothing in the way of salt or seasoning. This was supposed to be nachos. Where is the guacamole, the chilli, the sour cream, the jalapeños? MAINS: The Waitress asked how the steaks should be cooked. A medium-rare steak should not arrive nearly well-done. The steak on the surf-n-turf was only slightly over, which suggests they were cooked for the same duration, the thinner one on the other dish being seriously overcooked. The tacos were literally supermarket mince beef cooked so it was grey with no colour. The seasoning wasn't noticeable. They were served with two tiny dishes of a bottled chili sauce and what I assume was supposed to be sour cream. The tortillas were soft and pleasant, though I suspected they are also from a packet. This is another dish missing so many cultural ingredients. The cottage pie was also very very basic. There was maybe three ingredients in the meat part. Minced beef, onion? and oxo cubes. There was no carrot and celery and the beef wasn't caramelised, hence no depth of flavour. The potato part was thin and watery. The presentation in the iron dishes with the grilled top was good! Our waitress was nice, but very young and obviously inexperienced, and when she asked us "is everything ok", I did quietly mention that the steaks were over cooked and the tacos were bland, to which she replied "ok, thank you", and walked off. Bless her. I spent time writing this with the intention of providing proper feedback rather than criticism. We paid our bill and didn't complain further as there seemed to be little point. As mentioned, I don't know if you're waiting to hire a proper chef, but with the food being served as it currently is, you're unlikely to get many repeat diners, or recommendations. You're new there, I wish you the best for the future!

Disappointing meal. Items we initially wanted were 'off', the medium rare steaks ordered came well done and the tacos were tasteless and although the waitress was nice she was clearly inexperienced. The menu is interesting, with various items containing meat, fish and dairy being notated as VE indicating that they were vegan!

Very friendly place, locals and staff very welcoming and the food and beer both excellent. Dog friendly too but best to book.

Decent value for money in today's rip-off times

Few little issues like the wrong sauces being brought out with starters, I had blue cheese and my husband had mine I think but the chicken wings were lovely. Would definitely recommend. The surf and turf comes with 2 small battered prawns/shrimp but the steak was done perfectly. Pudding was nice as we shared the mudslide, there was no caramel sauce as they had run out. One of our party ordered Eton mess but when it came out it had bananas and chocolate sauce, then when we enquired about it they said they'd run out of strawberries. This is fair enough but because she is pregnant she cannot eat bananas so it got thrown away which seemed as waste as had they have said when she ordered she could have ordered something else without the waste. I had a cup of tea and asked the chap who was serving for some milk please. He said he would bring it but never did and went on to serve another table so another person was asked after 10 mins of him not coming back. The food is nice, if a bit jumbled, and the actual pub was nice, not too rowdy. Would go back despite the little issues. Good parking spaces too and accommodating to little ones.

Invited to join relatives here at the last minute for a Sunday roast. Dinner and dessert amazing at this family ran pub (the daughter working behind the bar has a lively smile) Hope to be able to return one day to try the mixed grill that I spotted on the week day menu.

Went here for an early evening meal. Since coming here last it has changed hands. The new menu is a bigger choice than previously, but the value still remains excellent. I had the gammon steak, that came with pineapple, egg, peas and chips, so a good sized meal for the price. My wife had the chicken wrap and changed the chips for a salad. We were both more than happy with both the quantity and quality of the meal. For desert we shared a cheesecake with ice cream. Which was lovely. Would I return, absolutely.

Recently changed owners, massive improvement and really well cooked food

Stayed the night here in my campervan in June en route to Europe and it was good. Called in again on way back to Ireland. New owners. I hadn't booked, and their chef was off sick, but they let me stay and I ate well. If anything, the food was better than a few months ago and it was good then. Burger this evening was the best I've had in ages. They need some real ales, but I'm sure that'll happen asap. Highly recommended, but probably best to ring ahead and not call on spec like I did.

Nice food, cheap prices. Allowed us to camp in car park overnight for no fee. Would reccomend.

Lovely pub, good beer garden and a good selection of draught beers, didn't eat there but the food looked good and portions were ample. Will call again when I'm next in the area.

What a great pub! Stayed here 1 night before a ferry crossing in a motorhome. We were made to feel very welcome, chef was ill , but the landlady said you are welcome to have food delivered. Locals were great fun and welcoming and a shout out for Jacob who runs the local Cliff Top cafe just up the road who gave me a lesson in pool. Overall would highly recommend going and visiting this nice bunch of people. Cheers Tim n Sam

Only called for a drink. The meals looked fine. Typical pub grub....burgers, fish and chips etc. The bar staff were fine. A good point is that they allow campervans and motorhomes to stay overnight for free. If they go inside and have a meal and a drink.

New managers or tenants. Too early to say too much. However, we had a pleasant drink in the garden in the sun. Talking of which, hopefully, more safe games can be introduced for children and grandchildren. We will return...

We parked our 2 camper vans and were looking forward to a cooked meal after our long journey. The table previously booked on line and had spoken confirmation for 7pm Monday 15th May. Pub is closed!! More camper vans arrived and Lots of people in cars. But it is closed, no sign of it opening this evening. Very very annoying 😩

Nice place for a drink but the food offering is disorganised. The food quality is good but the options are often limited or unavailable. Nice layout in the pub section but the food section is a bit sparse. The place is dog friendly however which is a real bonus!

Spontaneously dropped in for a quick drink and some food when looking for a dog friendly pub. Service and food was outstanding! Half price burgers on a Monday, was an added bonus. Would recommend a visit!

The best Pub you can find! Got the best fries of my life there. And they even let us stay with our motorhome overnight. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would do it!

Ich war auf Geschäftsreise und auf der Suche nach einer Location wo es was zum Essen gibt. Da ist das The Valiant Sailer aufgefallen. Schon beim eintreten in die Kneipe war ich begeistert. Der Style und die Leute genau mein Geschmack. Der Man am Tresen super sympathisch. Essen bestellt und was soll ich sagen. Es war super lecker. So macht es Spaß und freute wenn alles passt. Danke komme gerne wieder wenn ich mal wieder in der Region bin. Eine klare Empfehlung.

Nice pub just a few minutes from Folkestone, visited with some work colleagues for an early evening meal and drinks. Amazing value, nice traditional pub, friendly welcome, comfortable surroundings. Food was excellent, happily recommended.

We parked our campervan up for the night and sampled the roast from the Sunday menu, which was very nice. Flat car park but next to a road.

Wasn't what the website advertised unfortunately. Could be such a great Sunday lunch experience staff very friendly if not a bit unsure of what's going on with menus etc but definitely a place that could be up there as a go to place with a bit of organisation and a wider menu.

This a a very friendly pub and we got a warm welcome from Pauline. This dog friendly pub is lovely, we had 2 burgers and they were really good. I would highly recommend this pub and it’s only 10/15 mins from the Eurotunnel

Stayed in The Valiant Sailor car park overnight in our campervan on route to France. The car park is very flat and level, staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was exceptional. Excellent value for money. Some of the best food we have had in a long time! Looking forward to our next visit to The Valiant Sailor.

We went to the valiant sailor last minute as a large group of 12. Had a fantastic roast and was met with consistently lovely staff. We will definitely be back. Thanks guys for being so accomodating
