My brother, sister in law and I decided to have lunch in the Vale Cottage as they have recently advertised that they were serving food again. The Vale is such a friendly hidden gem and we have always loved this pub. There is a good sized free car park here so we parked up and walked in, we had not booked but received a warm welcome. The service was good and after placing our food order at the bar we were soon served. I asked for a Tuna Jacket Potato and salad and everything was fresh and tasty. My brother and sister in law opted for the home made cheese and onion pie with chips that they enjoyed. We loved the friendly atmosphere and were especially amused when a chap came in with his little black cat running along side him!! Definitely worth a visit.

The Vale Cottage is a little off the beaten track but is quite simply the friendliest pub around here. It is quaint and traditional and attracts an older age group meaning there is a calmer friendlier feel. We love Saturday nights when there is karaoke with Ged. The drinks are reasonable priced, staff super friendly and food is always good.

been going to the Vail for forty years been good been bad been good again. Then it hit the bottom. The cook decided to stop the Sunday dinners BAD IDEA customers vanished. Our second visit on Sundays in to weeks since the new owners took over Went on Sunday 21/04/2024 Sunday meals were very good The pub was full of customers having Sunday dinner. Some old faces coming back some new faces trying for the first time bringing Sunday dinners back GOOD IDEA. Went back on the 28/04/2024 pub still full of customers eating Sunday dinners our group also had Sunday dinner food was good. One little niggle some of the plates were not hot witch cooled the food and gravy down. The cook should know better. Apart from that good to see the pub so full.

Well went to the Vail Cottage on Sunday as we have for many years with our friends. The difference this Sunday was they brought back Sunday DINNERS. We have had to eat at different venues since they stopped the Sunday DINNERS. So getting back to Vail was most welcome. The food was very good and many old faces had returned. The new owners are going the right way to bring back the people that stopped coming in. keep up the great work.

The Vale Cottage and I go back to 1972, when this was the best pub in East Manchester and beautiful women were always in attendance there - heaven! My current wife turned me down when I asked her for a date there, back in 1975. I won in the end....Fast forward to February 2020 and the character of the place has changed completely. The pretty young things have gone elsewhere but the character of the place is still quite strong, the walls packed with Gorton Memorabilia and the ghosts of my past, whispering in my ears...A pint of Timothy Taylor's Landord Ale was quite deicious - a good omen. Rick decided to opt for the steak and kidney pie and it was packed with all the good stuff, hardly any runny gravy at all.My Chorizo Burger hit the spot - just the right balance and quite a treat! The salad was good and the chips were OK, Rick ate all his chips so they must have better than I thought they were. The young lady who served us was friendly and efficient and we got to have a chat with the cook before we left - always a good sign, she genuinely wanted our opinion. So here's the thing. Am I biased? Hell yes, this is the pub of my mis-spent youth. But time and tide wait for no man, the pub and I have moved on so the $64,000.00 dollar question is, would I recommend this pub knowing full well it's my reputation on the line?HELL YES!

The Vale Cottage has been through some changes recently and certainly lost it's way for some time and this is reflected in it's most recent review. The pub has now changed hands and they have made immediate improvements to the building and service offered, and seem keen to drive the pub forward without altering it's biggest draw , it's character as a pub which could easily be sat in the middle of Derbyshire . There is a fine selection of guest beers on offer all kept well and served well , there are improvements underway to the kitchen which will see good pub food back on the menu soon . New ownership coupled with the ever present excellent bar staff could prove to be a winning formula for the Vale Cottage going forward , and I urge anybody who likes a drop of the real ale and a friendly welcoming atmosphere together with a traditional pub feel to give the Vale a spin at the earliest opportunity. Tuesday night's are a general knowledge quiz night well attended and not too difficult so it's fun, with alternative Thursdays offering a music quiz , Saturday offers karaoke with Ged for the more adventurous . I started going in the Vale when I was 18yrs of age and I have just hit the half century and it really hasn't changed much in that time which is why I still frequent. Iam delighted that the Vale has stayed open as a pub as it's future was by no means certain until recently, because it offers something quite different from any of it's competition, and this is something that it's new owners seem to to have picked up on.

We thought we would go for a mid week meal.Arriving at 6.40 pm - (the website said they open at 6.30pm) the car park was deserted. We went round to the front and an A board stated they now open at 7.00pm.Returning at just after 7.00 still no sign of life.Gone are the beautiful hanging baskets and planted troughs shown on the webs, all that is left are cobwebs and a tatty looking entrance. I rang the number on the webs and A board but the phone no longer works. The pub looks very unloved and as we walked back to the car we noticed rubbish bins overflowing and signs advertising a security company guarding the premises. We left at 7.15pm and wonder - has the pub closed down?

From the outside and due to it's location, the appearance of the Vale Cottage may give first time visitors the wrong impression. I used to go to the Vale Cottage for lunch some 35 years ago and remember the good food, the fine hospitality and relaxing in the oak beamed lounge. Nothing has changed! The lunch menu offered a good selection of meals, a choice of good ales and it was really pleasant to spend an hour or so over a really nicely prepared and presented lunch.Top marks to staff - they know how to pull a good pint and the customer service was excellent.
