The Usk Vale in Newport

Friends and I came on a bank holiday - first time under new management. We had their ‘small plates’- wow!! Very impressive! We chose a variety between the 4 of us snd all we very impressed at the quality of the food. Such a reasonable price too. We sat outside because it was actually a sunny Monday Bank Holiday. The outside areas need work but reading their future plans, I am looking forward to what the new owners will do to the Usk Vale. Would definitely recommend and we’ll definitely come back. Thanks for the amazing food

We stopped here for Sunday lunch while enjoying one of the many great bike rides in the area, and are so glad we did. We received a very warm welcome on our arrival. The restaurant has a warm and friendly atmosphere. We both went for the three course option, and every one was a winner. Delicious home-cooked food with a friendly and efficient service. A lovely and perfect end to our day. This place is highly recommended, and now that we have found it, we will most definitely be back.

Was at the usk vale last night for a family members 50th birthday fab night great atmosphere and huge amounts of varied food laid out all freshly done well done to all involved I would highly recommend a visit here couldn't fault it just fabulous thank you

Absolutely lovely meal this is our 3 rd meal since January 24 under the new management team. Fabulous home cooked food with vegetarian options- steaks are cooked to perfection just as you’ve asked for and very good quality. There’s a good choice of meals on the menu and plenty of scrummy desserts. Drinks are good value with some great beers to choose from. The service is friendly and reliable, the restaurant is clean and tidy and atmosphere pleasant- even in winter . It’s an absolute winner and fas becoming a favourite… Thanks Mike and June for a lovely evening .

We had Sunday lunch here today and couldn't fault a thing, the lamb was lovely and succulent and the veg cooked perfectly and for dessert I had the red velvet cake and my partner had the trifle and both were very delicious 😋 The owners are very welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough for you We will definitely be back again

Would highly recommend this restaurant. Booked in for lunch. Lovely personal welcome and excellent service. Food was served promptly, beautifully cooked and well presented. Food and drink are reasonably priced. Well worth a visit. The pub/restaurant are situated in a lovely setting and easy to get to. We will certainly be going back 👍

Visited at the end of December, after hearing that it had reopened and was under new management. Pros: -Food had a lovely homemade taste. -Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Cons: -Carpark is very poorly lit and could potentially be dangerous. -What to do on arrival is not made clear - we stood in the bar area feeling a bit awkward before anyone acknowledged us. -Coke was flat. I don’t drink alcohol so a good quality soft drink is important to me. -There was a musty smell which was a bit off-putting. I’d potentially visit again - perhaps in six months or so one the new management have had chance to settle and establish themselves.

Been here twice now food was excellent Both times food good value for money nothing is a problem when you come with people a bit fussy .staff lovely very nice place would very highly recommend

We booked the week before for Christmas Day lunch. We arrived at 12.00pm for canapes and a welcoming drink (alcoholic and non alcoholic). I had a tomato and basil soup with rustic bread and my partner creamy garlic mushrooms on bruschette - all very tasty. Both of us had turkey roast - the portion size was very generous and very tasty. The sprouts were cooked just right and the other vegetables, delicious. Cheese and biscuits, key lime pie, mince pies, after eights, chocolates and coffee. We were so full after having a fabulous meal, well done June and her friends and family.

Reopened recently and what a liovely place. The food and service was incredible. Thank you we had a lovely 3 course lunch which was excellent value for money.

We hired the function view for our children’s birthday party. Ample space for all our guests and spacious car park too. The owner Nick was very friendly and accommodating, helped us set up and also tidy away. Would definitely use this venue again.

Second time we have visited the Usk Vale which is now under new management (Kirsten & Flossie). We had a lovely hot Sunday Roast Beef dinner which was top notch. Got to say the food and service was top notch will be back again. Chris & Anne

Food was lovely but we were put in the function room on our own (family of 20)which was cold and lacked any kind of atmosphere! We had to order drinks from main bar and carry through to our room ,ok for some but not everybody able bodied ,didn’t like the fact your potatoes and veg get brought in spectate to meals as we had to wait for all the meals to be served and some got cold ! Also don’t like t share as you cannot judge how much to take , just put it in the plate then everyone knows who’s is who’s ! Receipt also wasn’t itemised if you’d ordered the set menu ,which made it difficult to split the bill !

Excellent Sunday Lunch with a family party of six. Service was very good and food was perfect throughout.

Stopped here for a drink on the way back from caerleon. £16 for a bottle of zinfandel rose and a glass of soda, then £3 for a jug of squash. Started drinking the wine and noticed it was an 8% volume bottle rather than 12%. Bar staff attitude unhelpful. Don't mind paying for a decent bottle!! Won't drink here again

We had Sunday lunch here today, the food was excellent quality and plentiful. The staff are very friendly and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended, we will definitely be returning very soon

I have heard about the Usk Vale for a whole but have never found it. Last evening we did.Really quite a nice place to go, It is dog friendly in the bar and on the patio area. The menu was reasonable offering a 2 course combined menu priced at £11.95And a main menu. Which to be honest I did not look at. We went in by chance and the young lady told told us they could fit us in but could only offer th 2 course menu as they had a large party in. And we may have to wait a while other wise. Which was great info.The food we had was very nice, we both had the tender loin pork. I had new boiled potato's, the veg was carrots and peas. My hubby had chips. We had only popped out for a quick dinner because I was too lazy to cook. We will definitely visit again. .

Went with family and a couple of friends and all agreed that the food and service were excellent. We will all be booking again

Have been to the usk vale on many occasions and have always found the staff really friendly and the food is well cooked and plenty of meat and vegetables, we have been lucky enough to be able to book Christmas lunch for this year,as it is a very busy place.so would highly recommend this place.

Fab food, fab service. Had my wedding reception here in May and love the service so much we regularly book up and have a Sunday lunch .. good value for money and taste lush. Home puds spot on

Spent a fab evening at the Usk Vale yesterday night.The 3 course meal was excellent-plenty of hot tasty veg with the main.The service was superb ,entertainment was fun & we danced late into the night. A big thank you to Sharon, Louisa & the team.Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Myself and my Grandmother booked with our slimming world class to attend a Christmas meal at this pub for the 21st of this month.

Becoming a family birthday tradition for the Usk Vale, once again a great evening for 25 family members and friends, with various starters and main course served hot or cold depending on the starters and main courses with vegetables etc enjoyed by all with a great team of staff. Considering their were 2 parties that night everything went off superbly and wouldn’t hesitate to advise anyone else to hold a party or just attend for an evening meal you can’t go wrong, consistently good quality every time.

Following the excellent Sunday lunch our taste buds were drawn to the desserts. CHEESECAKE. The best ever Baileys cheesecake ever. So moorish. Can't wait to our next visit.

Very disappointed food served on cold plates, stakes not served on a sizzle and food taking 45 minutes from ordering when we were the only family. The new chef is not giving the service people have been used to, we have used the Usk for over 2 years, Modern chefs do not seem to serve food on hot plates carrots and peas lukewarm served in cold dishes it needs to change, when food is served like this it’s cold within minutes the steak was Lukewarm will we be going back I don’t think so,unless they change or educate the chef on how to serve food to what the standard of the Usk used to be.

2 adults 2 grandchildren excellent Sunday lunch plenty of meat and vegetables and no skimping on the gravy. Clean plates, always a good sign. Would highly recommend, look forward to going back very soon.

Went to a function here thought the buffet was awful stale hard sandwiches burnt hard pizza chicken that wasn’t cooked properly.

Had plenty of great meals in The Usk vale in the past but not for Sunday lunch I can now see why they get so booked up & already taking Christmas lunch bookings for 2019 ! 3 had beef & 1 chicken all tasted great & perfectly cooked along with roasties & vegetables & plenty of it too Thank you

the food is not as good as it used to be,it used to be a place for a nice meal at a reasonable price.Also they do not have much of a selection of wines by the bottle.

Had the £11 menu. Soup good. T bone very nice. Took granddaughter her food wasgood + there is a park right next to pub. Fully reccomend

There were six of us, and this was the second time we have ate at this venue. Unfortunately, on both occasions, there was only one member of staff. Today, the poor wee lass was run off her feet. To top it all, she didn't know how to use the coffee machine, and also didn't know how to use the till. The food was good, although served on cold plates, which meant the food was only lukewarm when it reached our table. Hot plates are a MUST during winter months. If you book a table at this venue, I suggest you ask how many staff are on duty first. That's what we will do "IF" we eat there again. Importantly also, is that the waitress didn't know the password for the WiFi.

Really good, rib eye steak with sauce and seasonal veg was cooked to perfection, many years since I had a meal here but this was much better..added bonus was live entertainment although very loud did make the evening..would eat here again..

We attended the Usk Vale's Christmas party night and had a fantastic time. The atmosphere was very festive, the food was delicious/hot/plentiful and the staff were attentive. The function room was a nice size so did not feel impersonal like some other venues.

Visited at lunchtime, they offer a two course meal for under ten pounds, in addition to other meals.

3 of us booked to go to the Usk Vale last Wednesday for lunch first time we had been, wide range of starters and mains 2 courses for £9.95 I had mushrooms and garlic dip, cousin had pate and other cousin had white bait, followed by scampi and chips, steak and a pies one with jacket potato and other with chips, 2 soft drinks and a pint of beer £33.00 freshly cooked and very good sized meals booked to go again in 3 weeks

We booked the Usk Vale for our wedding party for 150 guests. We had a fabulous night and they provided lovely salads and potato wedges to go with our Hog roast (.supplied by the fabulous Monmouthshire hog roasts and was as always delicious and much commented on). Their resident DJ Ashley provided great music as did Stan the man who did two sets for us. Absolutely fabulous night all round, many thanks to Louisa, Sharon and the team.

This is a lovely restaurant with very friendly staff and customers. The range of beers and wins is also very good. Sunday lunch is very popular and booking is essential at least several days in advance.

ONE OF THE BEST. Great value, tasty, traditional Sunday lunch. Visited a few times never had any issues.

Las carnes eran tan tierno y las verduras estaban cocinados a la perfección. Salsa y luego seguido de la fabulosa desiertos que también eran fabulosas. La comida y el servicio eran tan buenos que sin duda volveremos muy pronto. Tan buena que ya hicimos nuestra comida christmal provisionalmente. Por lo tanto T hank Louisa.

Family meal, yet again Sharon and her team continue to provide well presented meals, service with a smile and the portions and quality of food outstanding, prices you can't moan at with a good choice at the bar, a relaxing meal where your not rushed to finish your meal so they can clear the table. 10/10 again Thank you very much Sharon and the team.

We had a very nice New Year's Eve three course meal. The cooking was excellent with a lovely hot soup and roll to start. A full turkey cooked dinner followed by Christmas pudding with sauce. It was very tasty and the staff were friendly and reasonable price for the drinks too. It was a nice way to end the old year and have a lovely meal. Well done to all the staff and owners. Thank you.

Eleven of us enjoyed an elvis tribute night,brilliantly organised,between us I think we had every starter,main and desert we all thought ours was the best and indeed the food was piping hot ,well presented and absolutely delicious .We were asked if everything was to our likening and did we require any more of anything,to which we all declined as we were so full .We appreciate all the hard work that went in to making it such a special evening.

My husband and I visited at lunch time by recommendation but were very disappointed . The pouched fish was awful served and not tasty at all,I couldn't eat it, steak was cooked okay but meat taste wasn't good. Just chips were good.Lady who worked at the bar was very polite and didn't charge for the fish.

We had a great evening at the Uskvale on Friday 9th December. The meal was excellent. Crab cakes , bruschetta, melon starters were very fresh and tasty. Steaks were spot on and all cooked to our liking. The turkey dinner was fresh, and came with plenty of fresh vegetables all piping hot. Puds were delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being pushy. I would deffinately recommend the Uskvale.Great evening. Thank youLee.

Brilliant staff which makes the whole meal that much better, nothing is too much trouble and I've never had a bad meal there. Soup of the day is always fantastic and also the chocolate fudge cake for desert is a must!

Another occasion made memorable by the staff at this superb venue. Mums 80th approx 40 people each choosing from a menu pre arranged this yet again was served by freindly staff with a big smile, nothing was too much trouble and the food was hot served with fresh veg, lamb beef and chicken was succulent tender and fantastic portions and fantastic quality. Hope i got this right but many thanks to Sue and the staff for a great evening. 10/10.

Celebrated my Birthday at the Usk Vale on Saturday night with a party, followed by Sunday lunch for 24 people. Great service and wonderful food, from the quality of the buffet to the Sunday lunch. The staff are excellent and so welcoming. I would highly recommend for large and small celebrations. Looking forward to going back for Sunday dinner too.

Haven't eaten here since it was the glad, was not disappointed. Massive improvement. It was recommended to me by a friend and it was delicious. Reasonably priced and large portions too. Was too full to sample dessert! The pâté starter is great & the pie is to die for. Good heart pub meals that are good quality. However, entrance is slightly difficult if you have a pram as I did, not exactly the best for disabled people or those with pushchairs, lots of uneven ground and steps surrounding the pub. If you don't want to break the bank and want to eat a filling meal then I recommend!

After we had such a lovely meal for my birthday here last year, 26 of us returned for this year. We weren't disappointed. .food was as good and plentiful as ever. Louisa, Sharon and the rest of the team made us very welcome and saw to our 26 varying needs..not easy with such a large party. Loved that we were sat on a 'U' shaped table so could all see each other. Thanks for another lovely birthday meal..everyone commented how much they enjoyed it ..not just the food but also the relaxed atmosphere that made it an all round welcoming place for us all to be. Having eaten here several times for Sunday lunch, it seemed the perfect place for a birthday lunch for 14 people. The staff were fantastic from original booking to the lovely welcome we got on arrival. The food was delicious (everyone enjoyed their food), great value and the staff were very efficient and friendly. Highly recommended.

My husband and I visit this place regularly. We have always received good service from the warm and welcoming staff. We even have Christmas dinner here. A lovely place for a reasonably price meal that has always been of excellent value. We often visit. One of our favourite places to eat in Newport.

Went for a meal on Friday night with colleagues. Generally all had a very good evening. The staff were attentive and nearly all meals were enjoyed. I don't wish to complain about the evening, simply my experience. I ordered the pate starter which was fine. A few of us had ordered the ribeye steak cooked to various levels. I ordered a rare steak which I was assured was rare as the waitress passed it to me. Admittedly, serving a large party (approx 20) brings challenges. I know this one too well after having had over 10 years working in restaurants. As I cut into my steak, I noticed that it was medium well at least. After this I didn't wish to eat it as it was too tough. I know steaks are difficult to get right, so I decided to leave it as I didn't wish to cause a fuss. During the entire time everyone ate their meals, no member of staff came to check if everything was okay. After everyone had finished, a lady came to clear our plates and asked if my meal was okay. I told her that it was overcooked and didn't want a fuss I front of the others, so left it at that. She said that I should have told them about it, but I explained I didn't want a fuss. A few minutes later she returned and what she said next was the reason I am writing this review. She explained in a very blasé way, that one of the other party members had been given my steak and laughed, saying 'not sure how that happened!'. Then said 'okay??' as she proceeded to leave. I am absolutely disgusted with her response. No apology, no attempt to make anything right. Just a blasé attitude to the whole thing!! Very poor customer service in my opinion, I ended paying for a 2-course meal plus an extra £2 for steak sauce and only ended up eating a tiny plate of pate. If the attitude of this lady hadn't been what it was, I may have returned as I had heard such great things. In the end, I left feeling extremely disappointed and hungry. I do not intend to return because of this person. What a waste of money and such a shame as the other staff members were lovely and very attentive!

Having been here to eat on Christmas Day (see my earlier review), ten of us came again to celebrate my partners 60th Birthday in April.Our expectations were very high from the Christmas Day extravaganza of food and we were not disappointed once more.EXCLLENT food at a most reasonable price and LARGE portions (Again too much vegetable for us to eat though.lol)Do NOT dine here without trying the chips :M MM MMM!We all had different things from the menu and all were served at the same time, nice and hot too. The 2 course menu is fantastic value for money as well.I had the three cheeses deep fried for a starter and WOW , tasty tasty tasty and a lot of it too.My fish for main course was perfectly cooked and my banoffee pie for desert was one of the best I have eaten in a long time.Not one of us had reason to complain ! It is THAT GOOD!I really don't know how they can serve such amazing food at such good prices but they do and I/We will definitely be back.THANK YOU Usk Vale for making the evening go so smoothly AND for lighting all the candles on the birthday cake :-)

Visited recently, food was top notch. Good quality, great value for money and a good experience. OK, the venue is basically a members club. But don't let that put you off.Would I go again, of course.

Table for 14 adults and 1 baby booked today at 1pm , a prompt and courteous service on our arrival , a great choice of starters , main courses and desserts on offer with an option of a starter and main or main and sweet for a fantastic price and you would be hard pushed to find anywhere better for value for money .Quality foods served in nice surroundings and attentive service will want you to return again and again , If you want food cooked and prepared that reminds you of the kind of meals served by your mum years ago with the benefits of not cooking yourself you must visit the Usk Vale and give it a try, without doubt the best of its kind around .

Really really love the food here, never had a bad meal, we have started going here quite often as it truely is one of the best around. The guys work very hard and are always helpful. If you are a fan of a good roast dinner then the usk vale is a must!

We went as a group for an evening meal after reading the good reviews. The 'restaurant' is the back room of a pretty basic pub which is more like a 70s social club accessed via an unattractive metal fire escape. We made the mistake of going in the bar for a drink first. Laddy, local and loud we felt quite uncomfortable there (one customer spend all the time we were there leaning against the pool table with his hand stuffed down the front of his tracksuit bottoms - charming!). The restaurant was situated in a recently decorated by fairly dismal back room with too few windows and too little atmosphere. The food itself was basic and uninspiring - dense white fishcakes proclaiming to be salmon, bland sauces and mains. The home made chips weren't too bad and there were plenty of them. Although I admire the restaurant owners for their enterprise and energy, personally I found the experience quite depressing.

After going there very recently for a special occasion, unfortunately the food was served on cold plates. Service was really slow so although we sat down to the table on time, there was about another hour wait until someone came and took our orders. The children's meals weren't well catered for. Considering the children's meals were still quite pricey and considering it was supposed to be a 3 course meal for them, I was very disappointed that there were no suitable starters for the children and they weren't offered any either. I ended up requesting bread rolls for them whilst the adults tucked into their starters. Dont forget, we'd been sat there for well over an hour. Why would the children not be hungry too? I'm sure all in all a lovely place but just a few pointers could make this place a much better one to visit.

Some friends of ours recommended the Uskmouth vale, we eat out on a regular basis and the kids love a good Sunday lunch. So we thought we would give it a go, we booked a week in advance and turned up 20 minutes early but our table was ready and all set out.The food was fantastic and the service the same, if your thinking of going we would highly recommend it, very relaxing environment and great place. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I booked the function room and a buffet for our Ruby wedding. The buffet was first class and the staff efficient and friendly even though they were working short handed on the Saturday night.This place is a gem that hopefully will achieve a high customer base.

Went here for Sunday dinner today. Very good value for money. Food was hot and plentiful, with more veg and gravy offered.Desert is a bargain at 2.00 when you buy starter and mains for 9.95! Brilliant service and easy atmosphere. Will be returning regularly.One thing on a personal note - on the way in the main entrance, people smoking at the main entrance is not good, and the amount of fag packets and flog ends that have been thrown over the railings down is an eye sore.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of this event for making it such an enjoyable night especially Sharon who seems to be involved with most things.The function room was presented very well the food and service was excellent and the drinks very reasonably priced. 8 of us booked for Christmas Day lunch and boy did it NOT disappoint. SIX-YES SIX courses, ALL tasty and served nice and hot. I can honestly say this was one of the BEST Christmas Day lunches I have ever had. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble: especially as they were not having their Lunch until after everyone had left.The portion size of the Christmas lunch was outstanding with fresh veg galore and roast and new potatoes(Probably too many !).My only criticism is that there should have been a few more decorations up(e.g. Garlands and chains) to make it a bit more festive.May I express my thanks to all the staff for making the day one to remember!DON'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT CHRISTMAS:BOOK A TABLE AND GO NOW!

Having dined here on many occasions my friends and I (9) tried an Xmas meal with entertainment and yet again were amazed by the quality & quantity of food for the price of £26 95. We were able to choose from 4 or 5 options a Starter, Mains & Dessert followed by Mince Pies & Tea/Coffee. The evenings' entertainment was a comedian & local group The Bellagio Boys who were very talented.Service was excellent - all food being piping hot & served without lengthy delays. Congratulations to Louise, Sharon & their staff for the smooth running of the food & once again putting on a wonderful nights' entertainment.

We visited the usk vale yesterday as it was my in laws wedding anniversary and joint birthdays. I was really pleased with the warmth and friendliness. We had the Sunday roast which was beautifully tender with lovely fresh veg. Really good sized portions and such helpful staff. I had never heard of the usk vale before but can't wait to visit again

Had a lovely early Christmas Lunch eight of us sat on one table despite a busy lunchtime the service was first class and the food was excellent plenty for everyone and more if you wanted it a really very enjoyable first Christmas meal of the season Many Thanks Usk Vale for making it a memorable occasion

Popped in to try as heard it was good and wasn't let down menu was a bit basic but the food tasted great friendly staff and good prices will call again

I visited the pub for a wedding,the food was good,and a good choice of drinks at reasonable prices.However the attitude of some of the bar staff was not good.On arrival my friend orderd a pint of Coors,he got the drink and was told he could not buy coors fron the function room bar,next time he went to the lounge bar and was told we were not allowed to use this bar if part of the wedding party.I was also told to make the most of the vodka as was about to run out,they also told to keep my glasses as they had no clean glasses left,At one point a person collected glasses from out table and knocked over a full glass of wine,when asked to replace it she just shrugged her shoulders and walked off.After asking several time the wine was replaced.I feel there was not enough staff for the amount of people in the pub as another function on the in room next door,I think the pub will be a great place when the staff issues are sorted out.

Approx party of 30 for dads 80th food ordered before attending which arrived hot well presented and enjoyed by all, staff could.nt have been more attentive throughout the evening well done and thank you

The Usk Vale serves up a really great meal, hot and very tasty, and the gravy is fab, you can ask for more of anything, and they will bring it straight away, nothing is too much trouble, the staff are so nice there, so if you want a home made Sunday lunch go to the Usk Vale you will not be disappointed, book early though, as the car park can get full, but you are allowed to park in the children's park area which is owned by the council.

Even though we live in Cwmbran, we had never heard of the Usk Vale. Our neighbour had been for a mid week lunch and recommended it.We love our Sunday lunches and enjoy exploring different restaurants, so though we would give the Usk Vale a try.it certainly did not disappoint. No heirs and graces, just a tasty, home cooked, good old fashioned Sunday lunch, just what you want when you cannot be bothered to slave over the cooker on your precious days off. Also, very reasonably priced compared to other pubs and restaurants.We had the chicken liver pate to start which was clearly home made and very tasty.I had the beef which fell apart and my husband had the mixed meats which was a little extra, but really worth it.My 4 year old son had the lamb which also fell apart. I have never seen him eat so much Sunday Lunch.A great veg selection and plenty of it!!Although we could not fit in a desert, there was a good selection and looked very nice.The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.We will definitely be going back and would encourage people to give it a try as I can promise that you will not be disappointed.

Jayne my partner and I took some friends who had just celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary to this Pub/Restaurant [which was previously called The Gladiator] at their request. They had often visited here and we had not. I can quite understand why they raved about it. The ambiance was wonderful, the place was really buzzing and the staff were great. Real ale is always a bonus for me and there is always a guest ale available. The food was beautifully cooked and the portions more than adequate. The value was such that Jayne and went again the following week as neither of us felt like cooking lunch. We will definitely be going again both with our friends and by ourselves. I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants top quality food at a reasonable price. You may have to wait a little while for your food even if you were the only ones there, however that shows that everything is cooked fresh. The only thing that detracts [and this has nothing to do with the pub] is that road leading down to this secluded premises has many pot holes and could do with resurfacing.

Visited with my family on Saturday evening, had the biggest (and best) mixed grill I have ever seen, went again last night with some friends I had the steak and ale pie, they both had seabass all brilliant, very friendly place highly recommended

Visited here tonight for my father in laws birthday. Visited as a large party (15) and staff coped very well. And there was another large party in at the same time. Most picked from the 8.95 for 2 courses menu and most had a dessert too. All the family seemed happy with their meals, mine was lovely - Pâté to start and Ribeye steak for main. Great portions and came out with loads of "home cooked" chips and veg. Steak cooked just how I ordered it and was very nice. Dessert was nice too. Worked out at less than £10/head which when most of us had a 3 course meal you can't fault at all. Will be returning. Thanks for a nice evening

Four of us (2 adults + 2 kids) had an excellent meal here on Tuesday when we stayed near Newport on holiday and their evening 2 course meal was excellent value and really good. All 4 meals and starters were very good.

Went at lunchtime with a group of 24 club friends. Because of the numbers, we had ordered in advance - three courses for £11.00. The service was prompt and friendly and despite half a dozen of the group having asked for steaks cooked to various degrees not a single complaint was heard. (Unique in my experience!). My whitebait starter, steak pie main and strawberry dessert were all very good indeed. And the beer (Felinfoel Double Dragon on the day) was only £2.60 a pint. Not many other diners present but deserves to be much busier.

Have been here quite a few times for Sunday lunch and always enjoyed it. For my birthday, 20 of us got together (Sunday July 19th) and everyone, yes everyone, commented how much they enjoyed the food and what excellent value for money it was. The food was lovely, piping hot which is no easy feat when coping with such a large party plus they were more than happy to accomodate our two vegan friends. We were sat around one large table which made it more 'friendly' and added to the occasion. Almost afraid to give such a good review as would like to keep it all to ourselves(!!!) but such good service\value for money\delicious food deserves to be shared. Keep doing what you're doing Usk Vale and thank you making my birthday celebration so enjoyable - we will definitely be back.

Came here for a meal with 20 people after coming here for a Christmas party night so expected good food.Were we disappointed?,hell no,we were not disappointed. Staff are friendly and polite and service was good.Meals were nicely presented and everything was piping hot and tasty.The steak and ale pie was really good and as there were so many of us the chips and veg came out in big serving dishes and there was plenty for all.Prices were also good as 2 courses just 8.95, well worth a visit and we are looking forward to the Chrustmas party night.

Had a lovely mixed grill here, I was surprised by the size of the portions compared to other places and that was before they brought the platters of chips and veg. Wouĺd recommend. Lovely home made chips, my only negative would be the quality of the sausages, they were chip shop grade but still reasonably tastey and there two of them.

Visited this evening after many previous visits and as usual we had an excellent meal.We had two courses for £8.95 which offers an excellent choice with either starter or desert. For an extra £2 you can have three courses. Other options are available off a normal menu to suit all tastes. A cut above your normal "pub food". Recently been on a cruise and this was as tasty as the meals we enjoyed on our holiday along with a warm friendly welcome.

We had a lovely 3 course meal here today for Father's Day 4 of us & as usual lovely meal with plenty to eat they always ask if you would like more potatoes and vegetables, nothings to much trouble for them even on busy days like today. Even a free gift for fathers today - thanks again

Visited here for Sunday lunch. Great value lots of meat and veg and didn't need to ask for more gravy. Good for families. Drink prices good. Could do with a bit of updating and maybe make the outside look a bit more welcoming also the smell of the toilets as you go in is a bit off putting.

Went here for lunch on Thursday. It was very quiet but deserves to be busier. We had the lunch special at £8:95 for two courses. The food was first rate I had pate followed by gammon and my wife had melon followed by steak and male pie. My gammon was cooked to perfection and was very tasty. My wife's pie had a suet pastry base and lid and the steak and male gravy was good. This place needs to be recognised for the food and the good service.

Today was our first visit to The Usk Vale,we were very pleased we did,we had three courses and enjoyed every one,excellent service by happy people.Good value,quality food.Will be returning very soon.

Really enjoyed our visit on Sunday 3rd May for lunch. I had won a lunch there at a charity event I had attended there in February. I ate all 3 courses which I rarely do and was in a food coma for hours later! LOL! Definitely will be returning as the food and service was brilliant. Thanks

Went for a Easter family meal, value for money is exceptional, staff are superb, their was 3 waitress to 10 tables, could not ask for more resource, food was nice, basic but tasty, the down side is that the venue needs updating, for instance my chair was fully of split beer stains ( well I hope it was beer), the toilets were needing a good clean, but overall, would I go back.....,yes., so if you are after a quite family meal, this is the place

Shared this with my eldest son plus grand children, 7 of us in all on a reserved table. Have been to a function here before so was quite familiar with the place. As all the tables were full ( excellent for business ) service was quite slow. The food was lovely, hot & plentiful, and as other customers departed the food started coming quicker! I'd give the evening 8/10. Loses a couple of marks because the function next door was competing with the music in the bar. But hey ho good for business. Would certainly come again, perhaps earlier in the evening next time.

Never let down by this friendly local generous pub set in a vintage (in fashion) decorated setting.The bar staff are lovely. The FREE half time food was brilliant as always. All adds up to a great experience.

I was taken to the usk vale for Mother's Day and I was extremely happy, with both the service and staff. The meal portions were large! A choice of 4 veg and extra gravy! There were even a choice of about 8 desserts. I would highly recommend a visit to the usk vale.

When I heard the name the Usk Vale I imagined it to be in a village (maybe you should have researched the area then) but was sadly disappointed as a more apt name would have been Usk Vale retirement home (I have been in plenty of retirement home and suggest you do the same before making an unjust comment) with its dated décor you felt as though you should have been visiting your grandparents (I believe the decor to be "vintage" which is currently "in fashion"). The choice of veg was bland and limited, the only veg that was on the table that I liked was the cauliflower. (Why should your personal dislike of all vegetables be an issue?). When it came to the dessert not all the was on the menu was available (as it was Mother's Day I imagine it was very busy) also while stood at the bar for drinks the bar staff were walking past with no acknowledgement of me being stood there (if this was the case it would have been because they were extremely busy and quite frankly you seem a bit rude).The only nice touch was the box of chocolates that was given when we were leaving (they always do this for "occasion" type meals. Had you done your research you would have been aware of this).In addition what do you expect for £12.95 for three courses?That will be all-take care xx
