The Green in Newport

Myself and three friends went to the Green for a cream tea on the 21st March, we can fully recommend it, plenty delicious food, and tea and coffee served in proper tea and coffee pots. The price is very good considering how much food you get.

Had lunch there today. Waitress explained they were busy, but still we waited about an hour to receive food. Another table queried as to when they would receive their food. When out comes the chef (owner) and basically abuses them. When our food at last arrived one dish was foud to have a long dark hair amongst the chips after returning it to the waitress and explaining she didn't require a replacement. Lo and behold out comes the chef again and basically accused my friend of putting the hair there herself she tried to explain that if wasn't one of us as we are all blonde. He told her the customer is always right except when they are wrong. No apology just more abuse. The look on people's faces. Spoke volumes. We won't be returning .

Went for lunch here today and had reason to return my food as there was a long black hair in it. I pointed it out to one of the staff who took the food back to the kitchen. A few minutes later the chef/owner came out to our table and asked who had returned the food. I said it was me and told him the reason for returning it. Rather than apologising the chef said he could assure me that the food had not left his kitchen with a hair in it. I asked him to look at the 5 of us sat at the table who are all on our 60’s with light hair so it could not have come from one of us. Again he said that he hadn’t sent it to me like that and basically called me a liar, he then promptly left. There was absolutely no reason for him to speak to me in this manner. He was very confrontational and his voice was raised. This all happened in the middle of his restaurant during a busy lunchtime service. I was very upset about being spoken to like this and will never return to this place. I wouldn’t normally leave a negative review as I would prefer to resolve any concerns at the time but I feel the attitude of the chef leaves a lot to be desired. I was not asking for a replacement meal or compensation in any form. An apology would have been sufficient.

The food is always of fantastic quality and in a cosy environment. Fab staff as well.

Went today and was refused eggs on toast at 11.45 because it was too late! The menu stated breakfast until 12.00. Very disappointed as the food is always good. Will not be returning!

Ideal place for a catch up with friends over breakfast, lunch or just a hot drink and cake. A busy little place, but never too long to wait for a table. Staff are welcoming and friendly.

The service here is amazing. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the coffee is perfect too.

First of all the Food was amazing, I have had a million Christmas works do type meals and this was by far the best I have had. The staff were helpful and funny and the beer was cold and tasty. A great singer was also there adding to an already great night. Bravo 👏 👏

Just went for a cuppa with a couple of colleagues. I had soya milk hot chocolate, one had a latte and the other a cappuccino. Staff are lovely, polite and friendly. Clean cafe and toilets, nicely decorated.

You've dog friendly and "❤️DOG-Friendly❤️". They absolutely love dogs here. The entire staff came to greet the dog and to cuddle him. They gave him a big bowl of cheese, which hey absolutely loves. Food was proper and authentic as you might expect. Definitely a place to go and bring your dog and enjoy a lunch!

Great selection and variety of homemade cakes. Customer services was really friendly and family atmosphere.

I love this restaurant. The staff are always friendly, the food is excellent value for money and they are the most dog friendly place I’ve ever visited. With a bonus of spectacular cakes! Brilliant!

I must only go to good places!!

Breakfast was nice, cooked well. Staff were friendly and service was of decent timing. Quite expensive. We ordered a large and medium Breakfast and two cans of coke. You order a can of coke which they display on their counter assuming it will be the price of a can (£1ish) and they give you a glass for £2.40, When you pay with card your asked to tip and it gives you 4 options,the lowest starting at 10%. My daughter pressed the 10% as she's to polite not to when they tell you before you type in your pin, "there will be a question to answer before you pay" Total came to over £26 for two Breakfasts and two cokes. Quality of Breakfast was nice though.

Had a lovely meal here with friends and family. Great portion sizes and the staff were friendly too. Would definitely recommend.

Popped in here whilst travelling through the area because there was a sign outside that they were dog friendly, had such a great experience that we will now be using this place as a destination in future. Lots of lovely little touches that made our visit great, such as being seated and our dog immediately being given a bowl of water. Then when out drinks were brought out they also brought out a bowl of chicken for our four legged best friend (they checked first) When we settled the bill, we were pleasantly surprised with low the bill was - less than £15 for two drinks, two cakes and a bowl of chicken for the dog! Everybody who worked there was smiling and a pleasure to speak with. If you're thinking of visiting this place, please do! Great food but drinks are a bit overpriced, I would go there more often if it were more reasonable. Nice place to head for a brunch/lunch. Other coffee shops might be better if you just want coffee and cake though...

Terrific little gem. Great place to eat fresh food, great service and very pleasant. Our server was great but did not get the chance to thank her except by tip. Locals friendly and talkative. The cakes were enjoyable by the children. I loved the IPA. It is also dog friendly. Thank you and see you again.

All day breakfast was lovely and fresh. Friendly staff and nice seating out the back with lots of shade.

Really nice place staff friendly and welcoming we sat outside under the gazebos while we had nice weather dog friendly place the homemade cakes looked nice. We had Welsh breakfast tasty and good value for money would highly recommend

Good food and coffee, went twice in a week, says it all. My only grumble, was that I had to wait 15 minutes on both occasions to have my order taken, and that was after I got up to order from the till, staff are all friendly, perhaps I was a bit unlucky, will try again soon.

Had breakfast last week and it was Fab, lots of it and good quality. Just stopped off today for some lunch. (Our dog had lunch too). Cakes look amazing, so we are coming back to try. Staff friendly and love dogs .

Enjoyed our Christmas Dinner very much.Everything was piping hot, plentiful and very well presented. The service was very good and the staff lovely. A lovely cosy atmosphere made our afternoon a very pleasant experience.

Great atmosphere, lovely friendly staff, dog friendly and always give dogs a bowl of chicken and water on arrival which is exceptional. Cannot fault this place at all, will make this our regular. Nice and clean. Plenty of choice of food, delicious cakes. My sister and I and her little dog were very happy here.

Lovely, local cafe. Food and coffee is really good. The sandwiches are always of a good standard and the veggie breakfast is lovely. Very dog friendly, they give them food and lots of attention which is nice to see. The team there is always friendly and provides great service.

Found this while looking for a breakfast! Wow what a gem. Gluten free brekky, runny eggs and crispy bacon! Stunning! On point! Was really fast and was only 2 of them running the place today! Top top place!

Absolutely stunning. Service, first class, food first class, atmosphere first class. Well worth a visit if you haven't already 😉 definitely going back. Maybe try the gorgeous looking afternoon tea!

Stopped off here a couple of times for breakfast on our group bike ride. Plenty of space outside to dine and store our bikes and it's got cover should it rain! A nice selection of breakfast and cake. A prompt service.

Absolutely love this place, they are dog friendly which was great, the dogs were given a bowl of chicken each free and they were more than happy, the staff all came over and asked if they could stroke the dogs and they really made a fuss of them A********* really worth a visit you won't regret it, nor will your dogs

Friendly Staff, very nice food, would definitely visit again..

First time here today with our dog and 5 year old niece. The staff were lovely and bonus is that dogs can be inside and out. We sat inside as it was too hot outside and the staff served us really quickly, they even brought out some chicken for our dog who was super happy. The food was lovely and the portion sizes are spot on. Can’t wait to visit again.

Thoroughly enjoyed breakfast with my 13 year old granddaughter at this lovely place recently. The staff were friendly & welcoming and happy to make adjustments to the breakfast ordered by my granddaughter who 'didn't like' certain things replacing them with her preferred favourites! The cakes looked delicious too but we didn't sample on this occasion....will be returning soon!

Great place for coffee and cake as well as breakfasts and lunch . It is the Grandaughter's favourite place for lunch (Grandson likes it as well). Very dog friendly as well as great for children.

Very nice restaurant with a good selection of dishes on the menu, including options for children, light meals, and more substantial appetites. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. Children are welcome and all customers appeared to be treated with great respect and dignity. Been there, before, and will visit, again.

Had the large brekkie and it was spot on, no grease or oil left on the plate, it was cooked superbly, staff very friendly and choice of cakes was great. Well worth a visit.

Ordered gluten free toast. Was served it burnt. I don't know how you can calmly give it to customer in that state... Mind you they did put more burnt side facing down. That's how much black I've scraped off! No standards..

As always the food and service is great at the green but booked a table this time thinking we were booking for Sunday lunch but disappointed to find there was no Sunday Lunch and there was no hint of this on their website. Disappointed

Never again!!!!!! A breakfast isn’t that difficult to do, however this was disgusting. It seemed as though I was really putting them out when I was paying for a service. Please try and cook the eggs properly.

Met up with some family members for lunch at The Green. We had our dog and baby with us. The kids menu is fab and there are baby changing facilities in the ladies loo. We've never been anywhere so dog friendly! Our doggo was spoilt with treats and attention. And if you sit outside the tables are sturdy so excellent for tying up a food obsessed and very strong labrador. The adult food was brilliant too with a huge selection of yummy cakes.

Really friendly welcome from all the staff and lovely atmosphere, especially with all the Christmas decorations now up. We went for a lunchtime treat. The Fishcake from the specials board was recommended to me and I’m so glad I chose that - it was just superb. Hubby had the cottage pie from the main menu and it was also really lovely. Such tasty homemade food. We were too full to have any of their amazing cakes but instead had some boxed to take home. So glad to have this place nearby and we look forward to another visit soon. Thank you Jason & team!

Friendly staff for both humans and canine visitors. The garden is very pleasant in good weather with covered seating. The coffee is very good and more importantly there is usually a good cheesecake to go with it.

Very nice towards us with dogs entering the premises. They even bought some chicken for them, nice touch! Nice place, we ordered the fish and chips was fine. Menu not very extensive, mostly breakfast food, lasagne and fish and chips. Would like to have seen A daily special too. Covid 19.restrictions in place, and working well. We will go again and so will our dogs.

Nice place back last yr.....went there today with my mate 15/10/2020 for coffee and cake and was told go chain our bike to the gate then go get a seat witch we was not happy doin due to the price of the bikes .so said we would not stay to be told by the guy behind the counter we don't supply locks so bring one nxt time ..So my advise to you fellow cyclist don't bother stopping at this place he is very rude and your bikes want be safe so find somewhere else to go.the Portuguese cafe just down the road is a way better option

The best cover for outdoor dining/coffee etc. Remained dry under the gazebo when it rained !Excellent system for managing the COVID situation. Would be improved if patio heaters available and would no doubt encourage even greater uptake. Keep up the good work !

Visited on a sunny weekend afternoon for coffee with family outside. Sat for about 45 minutes. We were first to be served our drinks. During the entire time, the waitress served three other tables of guests that arrived after us. Three empty tables piled up with plates glasses, condiments remained there the full 45 minutes. It didn’t seem particularly busy. The waitresses passed these empty tables on four occasions. Four opportunities to clear up. One set of guests moved dirty glasses, plates et al from one table to another so that they could sit in the sunny corner. Please train your staff to clear tables. There was nowhere else for more customers to sit. It’s a missed business opportunity and it’s important for you to maintain custom in these difficult times. I welcome the addition of the new awnings and covers to allow customers to sit outside.

I had yet another fantastic early evening meal in The Green! The home made Chicken Kiev is the best! Every meal was presented well and great size portions. Nothing is too much trouble for Jason and his team and the welcome is still warm even with everyone wearing masks! Definitely recommend
