The Dodger in Newport

Popped in for the quiz on a Thursday night after we'd tried every other Thursday night quiz in the Port previously. Really pleasant suprise. The quiz was a real good laugh. The compare was hilarious so made it a bit different from other quiz nights about. We loved it. Top that off with some great pub meals and a great pint and it was the perfect Thursday night. We shall return. 👍

Place with specific smell. On time my visit was many childrens with noise. But ok, women from service really friendly.

Fantastic atmosphere in front of Newport County matches. Close to the Parade.Good beer fast staff. Nice staff clean and the pub is big room a lot of home supporters. Nice pub. Recommended to go there for all international Newport county fans. All the best Norwegian Amber army.

Handy meeting place on match day

Didn't think much about the food. 2-5 two out of five.

Excellent value for money and I will return here when I am in Newport in the future.

I was visiting to play skittles, so was upstairs in the skittle ally. Have visited before and had food which was your usual pub fare . Overall not a bad pub to visit.

Party of 5 on the 2/12/23. Had the Christmas menu. Food was excellent and plenty of it. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Great evening. Would highly recommend.

The pubs a bit old and shabby run down you could say the landlady has an awful attitude and is so disrespectful I wouldn't ever go here again don't waste your money here so many better pubs in newport to spend your money in. It's a dive and its dirty

avoid at all cost. the management is absolutely shocking and the food was even worse. I will never be returning to this venue at anytime.

Great little pub, great atmosphere

Popped into the Dodger for a meal and drink while staying 1 night in Newport. I have to say the food was excellent perfectly cooked beer prices very reasonable staff were all so friendly. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Also Very refreshing to go in a pub with all the old traditions present snacks on the wall to purchase. Lovely top marks have recommended to anyone staying in the Chepstow Road area of Newport

The Dodger var den bästa puben som jag besökt under mina dagar i Newport. Utsidan andades kvalitet och jag blev inte besviken när jag steg in i puben. Bra service och god öl.

Had sum sort of bingo or quiz going on.but it was early evening and we got told of for talking when walking through the door..it was 4.30 pm.

Lovely staff very welcoming and kind, great place to watch the sports, food is simply delicious and drinks are good priced, nice room upstairs for parties and even a Skittles alley. Really nice pool table I love playing on it each time I go in there and going to this pub. Definitely recommend for anyone looking to go to a great pub then here's the place for you.

May not be the quality dinning but it was well worth the visit and we will definitely go back. Plenty of food at a very reasonable cost and the beer was just perfect.

What a fantastic pub, staff were amazing food was absolutely great. We were only there for 2 days, but enjoyed every minute there. Entertainment was good as well. Would highly recommend a visit to this pub.

Worst mixed grill ever" steak like leather undercooked salty gammon and cheapest sausages possible, and it didn't smell right" waitress was very pleasant but no offer of refund because I couldn't eat it" always a bad sign when the steak is battered with a tenderizer.

Just caught the kitchen open and wish now it was closed, absolutely the worst mixed grill I've ever tasted, the waitress was very pleasant and apologetic but no offer of refund. The steak had been battered with a tenderizer and was still like leather and overcooked the gammon was undercooked and salty the sausages were the cheapest ones made of cereal, 2 tiny mushrooms and a thinly spread out bit of salad to try and fill the plate. The only positive thing I can say is it had an egg" I've now jumped on a bus to eat in a pub I know can cook and don't buy the cheapest of ingredients.

Thursday quiz night is fantastic, great atmosphere and brilliant banter with Mark the quiz master. Staff are super friendly, great night for the cost of £1.

Absolute dive of a pub but I love it!! One of the last standing local boozers! atmosphere is fantastic, bar staff are grumpy, as they should be, food is proper pub grub (no frills), the locals are minty and colourful!! I couldn't ask for more out a pub, best pub in Newport!!

Close to Newport County's football ground. Good choice of beers and food is also served Sky Sports available, although I was puzzled by the match choice, Celtic v Hearts, when the last day of the Championship season was on. Must be something to do with Cardiff being a Championship Club !! 😁

Myself and a colleague were working in the area for a couple of days, if we find ourselves in Newport working again we will eat here for sure. Good food at great prices, friendly and helpful with a good selection of beers.,, If there is a big match on you'd best enjoy football!

Fast service even on a football day. The doorman and the staff were friendly and the drinks were reasonable. I've not tried the food but it's meant to be good.

This is cracking. Good laugh. Great bar staff. Food is top nosh. Don't be fooled by the outside look. It's fantastic. Seriously....

Stayed in a hotel and passed the dodger on my first day. It looked rough on the outside & didn’t like the look of it . The second day we thought we would give the dodger a go ‘ I can’t say enough good things about this pub , it’s very well managed & really welcoming,. The dodger is spacious inside and has appropriate measures inside for social distancing . I can only say good things about this public house. I was wrong to judge without entering the premises .... A great book can also have a tatty cover , this pub is very good. Thank you !

It's a good real ale pub, a 10 minute walk from the train station ,walk over the river usk ,the pub is across the road from shell garage.

More a sports bar than restaurant pub, deffo a lively busy spot! Food was OK, good sized plate, basic menu but well cooked. No complaints here, fair price too

Christmas dinner with work, private area. Staff were lovely, and so was the food selection.

Large food portions and the mixed grill is enormous.

Sunday lunch fabulous fresh good quality meats and plenty of vegetables k larsen.

Always meet up there before going to watch the Dragons at Rodney Parade. Would rather not but the only decent place to go now after the Clubhouse was shut at Rodney Parade.
