Caught this amazing pub last thing on a Sunday, after squeezing in a late afternoon sea swim. Rang them with only 20 mins before last food orders and arrived with 10 mins to spare. They could not have been more accommodating - the food was excellent quality - did not feel like the last service of the day. The chocolate dessert blew me away. Do not drive past this one!

Had the good fortune to have a taster meal at The Unruly Pig on a Thursday when it is 2/3 it the usual price. The food was superb, the service brilliant & the ambience terrific. If you are ever in the area I would highly recommend.

Really amazing Sunday roast and first class service. The Unruly Pig is dog friendly too and there was even a little saucer of nibbles for our dog on the table for him. This was our first visit but it definitely won't be our last, it's a fabulous place.

Really nice gastro food. I loved it, but my companions thought a bit on the salty side. Also a bit expensive at close on £60 per head with drinks

This is on our doorstep and although it is expensive we visit fairly regularly. We visited today for a roast lunch to celebrate my husband’s birthday. I brought a single cupcake I had decorated with a few candles in the hope it could be brought out for him. I asked about this out of his earshot. They told me they would bring it to the table but would charge per person 6.50 in place of us buying a desert. I have to admit I was shocked. Reason? We would be spending about 150 pounds on a roast dinner for 3 people!!!! Isn’t that enough of a spend to just bring out a cupcake? We weren’t setting out to deliberately rob you of the price of a desert! That wasn’t the point. As a regular customer I’m afraid I was suddenly very put off. I would have just mentioned my disappointment however as a birthday meal I didn’t want to make a fuss. So I took the cupcake home. On principal- because adding an additional 19.50 to the bill seemed outrageous to me for a cupcake that cost nothing. I asked my family if they thought it was wrong of me. They agreed it was shortsighted of a pub to be so precious! And it is shortsighted: the unruly pig is a place we would have continued to visit for our family special occasions- we are not wealthy- a meal at this price needs saving up for. However this has put me off, and although we had a nice time together and the food was nice, we decided it would be our last time visiting. The food is good… but not quite as good as they think. The roast potatoes are a bit overdone and we visited at 2.45pm and they had been sitting you could tell. We were told that between 3 diners we would get two little bowls or roast potatoes and two of greens. We got one of each- the same amount as last visit where we were just two. They were trying to persuade us into starters because there would be quite a wait they said for the main course. We said we didn’t need starters and the roast dinner then arrived a very short time later. No wait. What with this and the cake I suddenly felt they were doing all they could to squeeze money out of their customers. I can understand that- but it’s not like we weren’t spending money. In my world 140 pounds for lunch is A LOT!!!! I know they pride themselves on the service here- and the young wait staff are very sweet; but the management should be looking to keep their local custom in my opinion. All for the sake of a little cupcake!!🙄😬

The Food was very delicious but it would have been more delicious if there would have been more of it.... I had a Risotto, absolut outstanding in terms of taste, but it was more of a little spread of Risotto... It made me more hungry and thats hardly the point of food... especially expensive Food... The good part was I still had (a lot) room for dessert and the Panna Cotta was just fabulous, really loved it and it was a normal Panna Cotta size!

People keep rating this place as amazing, and the photos of the food they share look great, but our experience was far from good. The duck was bloody and the risotto was bland with a bitter taste and the rice was not cooked, I don't mean al dente, I mean not cooked at all. It was embarrassing as we took our parents here telling them how good it was from what people had told us, it seems the place might have been good once, but is now not what it used to be.

Absolutely loved the wine collection. Not very often that I find a wine I enjoy in an establishment. Food was gorgeous. The food is delicious. But when you go home still hungry after three courses, there is something quite wrong. I have been going to the Unruly Pig for my birthday every year for a long time, and even before when it was the British Larder and before that, when it was the Cherry Tree. Every time at the Unruly Pig I always have the gnocchi, as I'm veggie and the gnocchi is just divine. However, I have noticed over the years that each time, the portions get smaller and smaller. This year was definitely our last year going, because paying £23 for 8 little pieces of gnocchi does not a main meal make. We then had the sharing cheese board, that had enough cheese for 1 person, not two, at a cost of £17.50. The desserts were not too bad, but still on the small side. Then we come on to the issue of the bill. As it was my birthday, I told the service staff twice about the offer I received for a free Prosecco drink, as it was my birthday. They said yes, it will be taken off the bill. It was served with warm wishes for my birthday. Imagine our surprise when the bill came, and we were charged £16 for the free birthday Prosecco! We had to have the bill changed, and when it came back we noticed a £1 charge for Red Rose Chain. When we queried it, it seems that the Unruly Pig sponsor the theatre group, and the way they do it is to charge their customers an extra £1 on their bill. Without their permission. Now, had we been asked if we would like to donate, we certainly would have. But the fact that they tried to take our money without our permission for a charity donation did not sit well with us, and so we asked to have it taken off the bill. It was all rather embarrassing, to have to fix the bill twice before it came back to us in the proper amount. Sadly, we will not be going back to the Unruly Pig. The cost of the food compared to the portion size is just not right, and even though I am not a big eater, I left the restaurant hungry. The bill debacle simply clinched that for us, and so next year we will be looking elsewhere. Sad, as it was our tradition for the longest time.

Service was absolutely amazing, really professional and we were well taken care of. I had said it was our anniversary and we received a signed card and decorated puddings, it made a perfect night. Our dog was thought of too, with biscuits he enjoyed and a bowl of water. It was very reassuring as we had to bring him out. The food itself is out of this world, my favourite dish was the bbq octopus, which wasn't what I expected at all with a very tasty dairy free foam. The menu is small, so make sure you check before you go as it changes frequently ESPECIALLY if you have an allergy/intolerance. If you are vegan, dairy free, gluten free etc. be prepared to only have one choice from each course that you like. However, it is clearly because this is because it is one dish done WELL that you will not find it anywhere else. The wine list seemed quite exclusive, so a novice like myself found it tricky to choose, but thankfully it was nice wine when I eventually did. Overall, it was a really special meal that suited our occasion ❤️

I had an awesome time at The Unruly Pig and tried their tasting menu, which was excellent. The oysters were a highlight for me. If you're wondering which one to go for, I'd say the xo sauce chilli is the way to go. The other one is good too, but the xo sauce makes it even better. They say they're listed in the top 50 ranking of best gastropubs. You can taste that... the food is extraordinary! Ofcourse the prices are therefore higher than average. But still very recommendable. Hard to comment on atmosphere as we were sat in the garden area where there was one other small table. We had the set buffet Sunday lunch menu, food was OK but portion size for vegan/vegetarian were poor - a tiny, thin cracker with a few peas and some leaves in comparison to the vast array for meat eaters. The options available were a clear after thought - even having covered all vegetables in butter. When this was queried it was evident this hadn't even been a consideration. The fact there is no other option for children, or ability to remove the children from the buffet option to order their own food shows a lack of understanding. Whilst some of the food looked impressive on first glance, on deeper inspection, very item was unnecessarily elaborate. For the massively extortionate price per person and inability to factor in children and vegetarian/vegan guests appropriately, we won't be going back.

We had the tasting menu, on Thursdays this is currently available for £49 rather than £75. Every course was perfect, very good value. Service was very good, every course is described as it is bought to the table. This did become quite amusing as it seems the staff, rather than being taught about the dishes they are serving, are instead taught exactly what to say. I can imagine they are lined up in the kitchen before service repeating their lines to Chef. Can't blame the serving staff, I'm sure they are only doing as they've been told to do. Towards the end of our meal, with the repetitions echoing around the other tables, we did struggle not to laugh out loud. But all in very good, highly recommended, we'll definitely be back. And if the owners happen to read this. Be brave, let your staff show some of their personality.

We went along for a Tasting Thursday, to enjoy an interesting range of dishes. The skate wing was the least pleasing, but the pork was memorably good. Dishes were explained thoroughly, staff were attentive - some more experienced than others - all were cheerful. We chose a pleasing Rioja to accompany the meal, in preference to the (expensive) wine flight. It was an engaging evening. The bill omitted the wine, which we pointed out and paid in full - the staff seemed surprised by our honesty.

Well if The Unruly Pig is the 2nd best gastro pub in the UK, No1 must be beyond belief! I cannot fault any aspect of the service and food we had here today. Absolutely perfect for out 10th wedding anniversary treat! The staff are attentive but not overbearing. Attention to detail being a skill they all have in spades. As for the food, unbelievably good. As an experienced butler, I've eaten food from many a high level and Royal banquet (after service of course), but this is the best I've had with the spectacular Octopus starter and Fried Oyster nibble challenging my taste buds in such a good way. Oh, yes, in the photo next to the 40 day aged Sirloin with bone marrow sauce, I got 4 chips. But what chips! Layered potato and parmesan, pressed and then fried three times covered with fresh parmesan shavings. This is now on my list of things to learn how to make. I'll say it again because it's deserved. I cannot find fault with The Unruly Pig. I wouldn't want to either.

Pre concert dinner Been once before but ideal for my evening out in Ipswich. Arrived a few minutes early and was sat at my table. Was planning a three course but was seduced by the taster menu. I declined the scallops extra dish but asked them to add the octopus one instead. Each course was beautifully presented, the vast majority were superbly flavoured too, special kudos to the liver parfait replacement for the dish with cheese. Each course was varied in its presentation and flavouring. Two minor grouses, the abdominal vien hadn't been removed from either prawn. The 7th course, first dessert arrived nearly 25 minutes after I had finished the last course. Time to digest I guess! Very polite and helpful staff, an enjoyable experience. Was the long drive worth it, unquestionably yes.

Great food and service at a fair price. I visited one Friday lunchtime with my wife for her birthday. To start, she had the arancini (she wanted something light) and I had the Poussin terrine; both were delicious and interesting - especially the terrine, which had many tasty elements. Next, we shared the rib of beef for two; it was very well cooked, as were all accompanying parts. The beef was very tasty and paired well with both the robust nduja & chorizo mac n cheese and the light (but cheesy) caeser salad. The bernaise sauce was sublime and our extra parmesan chips were the essence of crispy deliciousness (more accurately being 4 batons of confit potato); these were my favourite part and were a great foil for the beef. We were stuffed, but managed to share a blood orange panna cotta which was pretty and pretty delicious. We drank a small glass of muscat and a small glass of garnacha; £9 each is steep, but it was decent. This is our second visit and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

Plenty of courteous, presentable, table waiters & speedy service but menus are limited and of the dreadful 'nouvelle cuisine' type, meaning the portions are arty-crafty in presentation but baby-sized. My friend ordered a rhubarb crumble which was round and about 2.5 inches in diameter and half an inch high, so barely a mouthful. Vegan alternatives are very few and uninspiring. I ordered gnocchi, which are cheap wheat/potato parcels, expecting a plateful rising to a mountain in a rich sauce like mama makes, but got about 12 one-inch parcels dotted around the plate. Only roast potatoes were available on the day we visited and they were cooked in animal fats, so vegans couldn't have potatoes or rice. No discrete vegetables such as french beans, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower or broccoli, only a mishmash of cabbage, bits of broccoli florets, anonymous leaves and bits that were said to be of sprouts. Ordered focaccia alongside olives as a pre-prandial but got just two slices impregnated in a moist substance. I have the impression that prices here are about three times what other gastro-pubs charge. If you're not too hungry or fussy about choice of food and are content with small, decorated, portions at absurd prices, you might not be disappointed here. But if you're vegan, vegetarian, like to choose from a wide choice of dishes, or are just plain hungry for wholesome, filling, dishes, go somewhere less pretentious. This is a place for sad folk who uncritically believe all the hype surrounding this venue, who assume that sky-high prices mean great choice, high food quality and decent-sized portions and who are happy to feed their vanity rather than their bellies just to go somewhere 'cool'. In short, a very disappointing experience of being ripped off with food which I found mediocre and of miniature proportions. Won't be going back. 👎

Chateaubriand for two Salty beef with cheese, cheese and cheese. Lingering (still and ongoing), overbearing coarse salt administered in unruly levels post carving with accompaniment of nicely cooked beef steak, the provenance of which could not be enjoyed as it tasted only of salt. Salad deluged in slightly salty parmesan, macaroni cheese (claggy and suspect not freshly cooked) and parmesan coated mega chips (4 off), béarnaise sauce – meal was dry and salty, devoid of moisture and crisp (from “chips”). Minuscule duck starter was nice, rhubarb crumble was nice. Low back of dining chair at wrong angle was uncomfortable and weird unergonomic handle for knife were further detractors. Nice touches on hospitality did not make up for food. Really disappointed, “yes” we picked this, not good value for money though, falls into “won’t be back” territory and cannot recommend. Sorry

I'd been looking forward to visiting for some time. Thankfully, it lived up to its reputation. The pub itself was a lovely place to spend some time. It had a great decor with a quirky playfulness. Everyone loved the lego mini figure art. The wine and drinks offering was fantastic with nearly every wine available by the glass and a good selection of "drivers drinks", non-alcoholic drinks such as local Suffolk kombucha. The food was great. We had the Thursday tasting menu, and the majority of dishes were lovely. My favourite snack was a sublime smoked cod roe tart. The mussel and potato ragu that came with chalk stream trout was another delicious highlight. It could have been an amazing dish on its own. I only knocked off a star because there was an overuse of truffle oil. A little goes a long way, and the ox cheek and mash that came with the Sirloin was overpowered by the truffle. As there was truffle elsewhere on the menu, it felt unnecessary. One further minor gripe was the chocolate dessert. On paper, it sounded like chocolate was the star of the dish. When it arrived, every element was delicious, but due to the proportions, salted caramel was the main flavour.

We went to our anniversary recently and had the tasting menu. Service and atmosphere was super. Dogs and children welcome which was nice to see and didn't at all detract from our meal. Some really cool art work up as well. Food was excellent (my wife being a hospitality journalist, we get to go and try a lot of different places). Albeit, a number of the dishes were quite salty. But, very happy over all and better than some starred restaurants. The two deserts were simply fantastic.

I was treated to a 7 course experience which is available on Thursday's, what a meal!! The restaurant is dog friendly and the staff even had a birthday card on the table upon our arrival. The team were very welcoming and the food was spectacular. Two very full stomachs and a very happy dog. HIGHLY recommend, thanks guys!

This gastropub had been on our list for a long time and we were very excited about visiting. The menu is impressive and they are really pushing the bar with the food. Not everything hit the mark but they shouldn’t stopping pushing forward. Unfortunately on the night we visited there were a couple of service issues but this happens and I have no doubt these will get ironed out. V.impressive young sommeleir too and enthusiastic, young tram on the floor.

The duck liver comes sparse and bald on grey ceramic; a brioche roll, a curvature of small peach slices, a small pool of chutney and the ovoid parfait with a few grains of salt. The largesse of flavour manifests itself and perfects the ratio of plate to food. It’s just fabulous.

Lovely evening in Suffolk enjoying the exceptional tasting menu!!! Love the variety, taste a presentation, although the mallard is not for me personally. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion.

We called in very last minute on the day for lunch with our little pooch as well. The staff were all extremely welcoming and helpful. The restaurant has ample parking, is clean and has a great atmosphere. The food was outstanding! We had a set lunch menu, it was excellent value for money and just perfect for what was a very last minute lunch decision for my husband’s birthday whilst visiting Suffolk. If you like chocolate the Chocolate Delice is possibly the nicest dessert I have ever had! Superb! Our poodle also enjoyed his own plate of bones and a bowl of water! We would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area I have already recommended it to family members and we would definitely return if we are in the Suffolk area again. Thank you to Google maps for this amazing find! We love the name too!

One of the waiters went out of their way to actively make me feel uncomfortable. This is not what I would expect from a restaurant which is £100 a head.

Absolute shambles. Computer booking did not work so we went explaining that if we could not eat that would be fine. But we were told it would just be a 15 minute wait, which we were happy about, got some tea and waited. 20 minutes later we were told they needed the table back. Total waste of time and best part of £10 for two pots of tea!

Nice restaurant but not a pub. I had Iberico pork and found it all very sweet and the black pudding was deep fried and of poor quality. The other meal was steak and was requested medium cooked but arrived nearly blue, the chips were coated in parmesan which is a salty cheese but the whole meal was overpowered with salt. The wine choices were great though.

Quite possibly one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve ever had. Attentive and friendly service from all the staff from start to finish. It’s a shame we’re not local, we’d be back every weekend if we were!

Had the Thursday Tasting Menu, it was fantastic. 8 courses, 1 was optional extra. The dishes were amazing and interesting and each was described by the waiting staff when served, which added to the experience. The 'Restaurant' gets very mixed reviews, maybe because people are expecting pub grub as it's listed as a Gastropub but it's not, this is fine dining in a beautifully decorated building with the look and feel of a pub. It's not cheap but well worth the money as you are eating food of high quality, prepared and presented by masters of their craft. I would highly recommend.

An amazing and memorable Thursday evening spent sampling their tasting menu. As a vegetarian, I enjoyed every course with some new and exciting flavours and not a veggie lasagne in sight! My partner is a carnivore so he enjoyed the regular tasting menu paired with the wine flight. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, whether about the food or wine. We are not local otherwise this would definitely be a favourite place for a foodie treat. It is excellent value on a Thursday (£49 instead of £75 on any other day).

Great shame as I had been informed that this was one of the best dining experiences in the area. Service was pretty poor especially from one waiter, very pushy and abrupt. Sirloin steak was very gristly , chipped plates that food was served on. Questionable measures on an £18 glass of champagne. Atmosphere was spoiit by other diners being very loud and not being told by staff to respect other diners. Overall, what was meant to be a lovely lunch was curtailed by the above. Super disappointed.

You really must try this place. Everything was faultless and the food was fantastic. Prices are on the high end but for the quality of food served I actually thought it was incredible value.

Nice venue, good food, reasonable service. We shared baron bigod tortellini to start, lovely flavour in the sauce, but the pasta was rather dry. For the main, we went with Chateaubriand: the meat and Bernaise sauce were lovely, but the house-chosen accompaniments of Caesar salad with anchovies and nduja mac and cheese both clashed. I'd have preferred Dauphinoise potatoes, green vegetables, and some mushrooms on the side. For pudding, we had plum crumble with Amaretto custard: interesting and quite nice.

The food is incredible, staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend the venison batutta starter. It is probably up there with one of the best dishes i have ever tasted! The chateaubriand was cooked to perfection, and the paramsen chips were crispy and soft! Just make sure you don't book within the cancellation window(24 hours) as if you do, you will be charged £50 per head to cancel! While this did leave a sour taste in the mouth, I would highly recommend going!

Special afternoon tea for an 85th birthday. Great service and an abundance of delicious sandwiches, cakes and scones. The cheese scone with plum chutney is very yummy. Different seasonal flavours contributed to an excellent afternoon tea and celebration.

Visited for lunch today; took a chance and didn’t book. A fairly quiet, tidy and elegant restaurant awaited, neutral tones with a splash of colour made for a pleasant and peaceful visit. Whilst the menu may be limited for some it should mean that what is offered is seasonal and fresh. I certainly couldn’t fault my meal, although perhaps lose the Yorkshire pudding. Really great flavours, a substantial portion size served with polite humour. Will definitely return.

Best Indian in the area by a large margin. Food always arrives hot and full of flavour. Staff are friendly and always deliver on time.
