The Ufford Crown in Suffolk Coastal

Lovely gastro pub offering a warm and friendly atmosphere on a cold and frosty night. Reading the great reviews i think we may have had a bit of an off night. Thai red Tiger prawn curry was more sweet and sour, the prawns in the prawn cocktail we’re small and a bit soft and the pork belly was huge yet tasty enough but sat on overdone vegetables, and a tad visually unappetising. Shame, but still, we’ll come back again as the hospitality is fantastic, maybe in the spring after everyone’s had a well deserved break.

We came here just before Christmas for a casual lunch and it was delicious. Attentive staff and great service. The food was fantastic. Thoroughly recommend.

We chose Ufford Crown for our intimate wedding reception/breakfast and we were not let down. James and his team were amazing in setting up the venue to be what we wanted. The guests loved the food and they all had full bellies by the end of the night because of the massive serving size! The venue was set up beautifully and it made everything feel more intimate and cozy which was exactly what we hoped for.

We had our work Christmas meal here with a group of 22 ladies, and honestly, it was fabulous from start to finish! The whole process was a breeze, great communication via email, the team were so accommodating. The food? Wow!! Such a wide variety to choose from, all absolutely delicious, and the prices were super reasonable too. It’s rare to find a place that nails quality and value, but this restaurant truly delivered. And the staff! So friendly, attentive, and just lovely all around. They made the evening feel extra special. If you’re looking for a place that ticks all the boxes for a group meal (or any occasion, really), look no further. Highly recommend

This was our first visit to The Ufford Crown. We had a fabulous midweek lunch. The food was great. Huge chicken caesar salad, pork belly and mash with divine crackling, Nduja linguine. Excellent service. Friendly staff. We will be back.

We ate here twice on a visit to the area. The quality of the food and choice of dishes was exemplary. The staff were so friendly and provided excellent and efficient service. It’s a shame we don’t live closer as we would certainly make the effort to visit again 😀 but will certainly recommend to anyone considering visiting. Two relaxing evenings with amazing food - what more can you ask for. Thanks to everyone at the Ufford Crown.

Nice country pub, efficient friendly staff and an extensive and interesting menu. But the proof is in the eating and everyone agreed that the food was excellent. Tasty, generous and well constructed.

We called in by chance early evening without a booking and luckily got the last free table. The nights special was battered haddock chips and salad which we both had the food was delicious and a very generous portion together with wine by the glass and excellent service it made for a lovely dinner.

The food was of great quality and thoughtfully prepared. We were a family group of 10 and service was smooth and simultaneous (i.e. no waiting for one dish to turn up). A most enjoyable evening.

Delightful visit with a mouth watering menu. The duck parfait was a great start followed by the Tiger prawn curry. Although warned that the curry was spicy, it was not over the top. Great service with a smile !

We booked for 13, including a 5 YO and 6 month old, for a big birthday celebration lunch. We had the side room to ourselves, and had full pick of the menu. All of our group had trouble choosing, as the variety of food was very good. The little playground at the back was great for the 6 YO. The whole experience was excellent, friendly staff and great service. Would definitely recommend for family events, particularly for a mixed age group like ours (3 generations).

Lovely pub, outside garden and atmosphere. Popped over for a Sunday lunch, gorgeous roast, big portions, lovely dessert. Super happy, will defo come back. Friendly helpful staff (shout out to the waitress who helped mum to get on her feet). 10/10, will recommend and will be back!

Been here two nights on the trot whilst staying at a nearby hotel. Last night we both had the two different pork belly dishes, which were perfect. Tonight I had the sword fish and the most tasty piquant pasta and my husband had steak, both cooked to perfection. Service prompt, portions large, perfect in every way. Just wish we lived closer

The food here was absolutely gorgeous 😍 😋 the best Sunday roast we have had at a pub in a very long time. The service was excellent and the play area in the garden helped occupy out son. We even took the dog who and sat outside under the covered area. Would definitely go again...shame we live 3 hours away!

Went in for a Sunday roast. Busy so best to book, we hadn't but very accommodating staff. Told us there would be a bit of a wait but found us a table in the marque outside which was lovely as it was a warm day. Food and plates were very hot and roasts were delicious so worth the wait. Little bit pricey but not overly so for a Sunday roast. Would definitely recommend and we would certainly not hesitate in returning.

Tried to decline serving us at 8:25pm Saturday eve, website said 9pm, double charged us at £130 for 2 main meals, bottle of wine and a kahlau each.... Don't bother, Diar....

Came for dinner on a Sunday night. We had the confit duck leg and the lamb. Both were excellent, with decent portions and tasty veg. I've never been impressed with any pub's roast potatoes and just assumed it is hard to do them well in large quantities. The Ufford Crown have set me straight on that - their roasties were delicious, perfectly crisped and very tasty. Service was excellent too. If it wasn't a four hour drive away we'd be regular visitors, but if we're back in the area again we wouldn't hesitate to return.

First time for many years. Food was excellent. We had 2 main courses Roast beef and all extras. Grilled goats cheese salad including beetroots, green beans. Both meals delicious. I asked if there was a roll or bread of some sort to go with the salad. There wasn't, but it was not a problem. A lovely bread roll came with it. We did not have room for dessert unfortunately. We will have to come again! Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and the service was good. The red house wine, a Tempranillo, was an acceptable choice for our meal and did not disappoint. Thank you Ufford Crown for giving us a good dining experience on a Sunday evening.

We went as a large group and were waited on very expertly by very pleasant and efficient staff. Food was truly delicious and good range (less so for vegetarians). Plenty of parking. Nice decor, great fire.

We stopped off here for a Saturday lunch, food was very good and we specially the snails. They had gluten free bread which was a bonus! The service was as a bit hot and miss, we were sat down for awhile before another table started arriving and they were given menus etc where as we had to remind the waitress. With the bill it was the same which is the reason for 4 stars

Our first visit to the Ufford Crown and we were really impressed. We had the Sunday roast which was reasonably priced and the portions were generous - the food was piping hot and incredibly good quality. Our server was Lily who was friendly and engaging and looked after us superbly. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Crown and it was 5 stars in every respect - thank you!

Our first time at the Ufford Crown, I am sure it won't be the last. This is a really nice pub restaurant with friendly efficient staff. With one important exception, the food was excellent. My wife enjoyed her chicken Caesar salad, while our friends described their mains - tiger prawn curry and haddock and chips - as top notch. The desserts - Affrogato and Madagascan vanilla cheesecake were equally. My steak, nicely pink inside a crisp on the outside, was one of the best I have had in a while. But the chips! Why is it in a country that consumes chips by the tonnage, chefs seem to struggle with this simple side dish? This would have been a sure-fire five star review but for that. Cook once in very hot fat, drain and cool. Back in very hot oil until crisp. Simple.

Visited mid week for an evening meal while on holiday in the area. The food was very good and brought out quickly by the friendly staff. It was reasonably priced for the quality and there is a good wine list. As we had the dog with us we were booked into the bar and once the restaurant area became more busy we seemed to get forgotten about and had to remind staff about the dessert menu they offered us and go to pay at the bar. The gents toilet could also do with a bit of renovation and some warm water.

We visit the Ufford Crown fairly often and the food never disappoints. The Sunday roasts are outstanding and great value. The atmosphere is just perfect with a mix of clientele, unpretentious and classy.

Food was delicious the service was great it was a little quiet but we went early around 6 on the way back from a walk, by the time we left it had a nice atmosphere and was busy, would recommend going early or booking in advance

Traditional proper pub. Went on a Sunday. Group of 11. Services was quick accurate and very friendly. Food was very tasty & hot. The roast lamb, a favourite of mine was delicious -as good as any I have ever had. Good portion size. Really excellent.

Scrummy pub food. My partner said his burger is one of the best he's had. I had goats cheese & beetroot salad which was delicious, although a little too much dressing for my taste. Friends had ceasar salad, and mac & cheese which they enjoyed. It is a loud setting - we struggled to hear each other due to kids on another table with loud mobiles being used to keep them entertained.

Very good experience at the crown, Food was good as was the service ,The staff were friendly and the prices reasonable, I would definitely go back again if I can persuade someone to take me as I no longer drive due to dodgy eyes .

We had a Sunday roast dinner on the 14th of January for my husband’s birthday with our 2 children. We were made to feel very welcome, and the roast that we all had was probably one of the best we have had. Thank you very much, we will be back.

Local pub to where I work. Had our Christmas meal here and I couldn't fault it. The food was lovely with a warm friendly service. Good selection of beers and spirits and a nice atmosphere. If you're in the area, I highly recommend a visit.

The best Sunday roast in the area

Thinking of moving to the area so we popped in for lunch. A lovely hubbub of busyness, with delicious food and very friendly staff.

Awful place. Hotel room worse than Premier Inn with £200 price tag. Couldn't fill bath or have shower as water came out at a dribble. Took 20 to fill up. Shower stopped running water throughout having a shower. No staff on to complain. Breakfast plentiful but bad quality. Atmosphere cheap and nasty. Dreadful place.

Always receive great service and delicious food! There is also a small play area for kids outside. This is a total gem of a pub and would love other pubs in the area to follow their lead…

We had a family birthday dinner at the Ufford Crown and it was great! It was really last minute, but they managed to provide us with a reservation for 5 in less than an hour. The service was great, the food delicious and plenty of options for our pescatarian/vegetarian. They even supplied hot sauce for our spice loving son. And to top it off a great rendition of Happy Birthday sung by the staff. What more could you ask for? Oh and the belly pork is definitely the choice you should make. I'm normally put off by restaurant mashed potatoes as it often tastes like it may have been reheated, but this tasted fresh and was totally the best meal out I've had in a long time.

Jury is out on this one. 3 of our party ordered a small roast which was £10. Very good value. I ordered a normal size roast lamb which was £25. ALL the dinners were exactly the same size! When challenged about this I was told it was because I ordered the lamb! Is this really true Ufford Crown? Spoilt it a bit for me I'm afraid as I felt I'd been fobbed off.

Had a great meal celebrating a 60th Birthday, 12 people of different ages all enjoyed the food, service and experience. Will definitely recommend and return if we are that way again. Thank you.

Excellent service, friendly attentive and accommodating. The food is absolutely delicious, high standard, lots of big flavours and great portions. We also sit by the bar with our puppy who equally has a lovely time in the cosy lovely atmosphere.

We came for our daughter's birthday and had a lovely time. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food was absolutely delicious. They realised it was a birthday meal and brought our daughter's dessert out with a candle and sang Happy Birthday! Highly recommended for great food and service, and dog friendly.

We stopped for an early lunch, decided to eat in the garden with our dogs, had the chicken and bacon ciabatta and Cajun chicken, both were delicious and cooked perfectly.

We haven’t yet found a pub that quite matches this one. Service is fantastic, staff are always super friendly and the food is seriously impressive. We’ve enjoyed every meal we have had here (bonus they are dog friendly so our dogs have come too). Definitely recommend the roasts. Fantastic chef.

Delicious gin selection, food menu is vast! Had crispy pork belly which was fantastic. The team were also really warm and friendly. Will be back!

Menu typical for a pub Most of the food was ok but if you have the Ciabatta with cheese be careful as inside was so hot it burnt my mouth which was extremely painful and still is 2 days later! Also cups were a bit hard Staff were very nice

We had a fantastic Sunday roast at the Crown. Absolutely delicious. We were fortunate that having tried to book late we were able to have a table after someone else's cancellation and it was so worth it than try anywhere else. Service was excellent too. Highly recommend.

We had Sunday lunch as a family of ten on Sunday and had a wonderful evening with incredible food and service. We’re quite a fussy family when it comes to dining out, and the last couple of times we’ve been for a meal together, we haven’t enjoyed it/felt that the food was standard and over priced. This is not at all how we felt at The Crown and all agreed it was one of the best meals out we’d had in a long time. A mixture of ages and dietary requirements (children and vegetarians) we felt that we were all very well catered for and the food was incredible. I had the veggie roast and it’s one of the best I’ve ever had! The chef managed to make the nut roast interesting and delicious and the portions were perfect. Our son is 4 and was very happy and made to feel very welcome in the bar area, as was our doggy (Barley the Beagle). Would very highly recommend and will be coming back soon!

This came recommended. A very stylish but not pretentious pub just outside Woodbridge/off the A12. They catered very well for a large group of us (10, including one Beagle). Sunday roasts were exceptional and all gratefully consumed. Only negative was the vegetables which were pretty hard alas that's a minor quibble. Definitely worth a visit.

Very clean establishment. Good ,polite service. Not much of an atmosphere on a Saturday lunchtime. Extremely hot in the bar area but the waitress did give me a fan to use. Great starter with the Halloumi fries! Tight on the prawns on prawn cocktail for the price! Both had meatballs for mains which quite honestly (the sauce was delicious) tasted like paxo stuffing and no meat texture at all. We thought they were a vegetarian version and we'd misread the menu description. Which wasn't the case.

A restaurant - not really a pub. Looks very nice but no space for drinkers inside at all. They were waiting for evening service at 5 pm on a Sunday, all tables set for dining.

Stopped here on our way to holiday cottage, what a find! Food was faultless, staff friendly and accommodating, dog friendly. It's quite likely that we'll make a return visit before our holiday is over. I wouldn't leave a review if I lived nearer, I'd want it to be my secret!

The best pub grub I've had in years, staff friendly, lovely clean pub, food out of this world. Will definitely be returning to sample other dishes, had 3 courses as was told this pubs food is excellent and it certainly lived up to its reputation, the pork belly salad, scrumptious. The food here is delicious, so much so my husband & I chose to eat here three nights of our holiday. They have a good menu to choose from & cater well for Gluten free. In our opinion the chef has nailed the meals we chose to perfection. For us the the Dingley Dell pork belly was amazing, my Thai red tiger prawn curry sublime, Steak chargrilled was outstanding and the sausage & mash my husband had was delicious. The ambience of the bar & restaurant is really nice. Last but not least the friendly & efficient service we had from all staff members made it a very pleasant & memorable experience. A special mention to Jessica who has in our opinion nailed front of house with her genuine smiles & knowledge. Thanks so much, Andy & Ellen, Grantham
