So we attended on 19th Feb for my 40th, around 40 guests, normally with such big numbers they serve carvery or buffet, at the time we were unaware of this and provided meals from the menu The guys were happy to accommodate this and provided a fantastic service and the food was outstanding We sat in the conservatory and it was so warm and inviting Would 100% recommend to anyone Thank you twisted oak, it was an amazing evening

Excellent value for money. I had a Ham baguette it came with Chips,side salad and coleslaw £7.50. the service was good. and I enjoyed the meal. thank you

This place used to be a lovely welcoming family country pub , not any more the family has gone even though still advertised . The menu is very limited , especially for families and the hospitality is as welcoming as a fart in a spacesuit . Shame on you Twisted Oak .

Excellent food once again. Had the Xmas menu, fantastic value for your money. Food well cooked. Excellent table service and no rushing between courses.

We have been to this pub many times before but the last time was couple of years ago. We always enjoyed eating there, the food has always been very good, generous portions and always fresh tasting (with the exception of the kids pizza!) Went last night on a whim and was surprised how few people were eating there being a Saturday evening. It always used to be very busy. I began to see why this might be possible because I was left a little disappointed with the food we had. I had the small fish and chips which was indeed small, for the price. My daughter had the burger which was good. But the chips were sparse on both our plates and seemed a little...old I was shocked when they brought the garlic bread side, £3.95 for 4 small slices, that is £1 a slice! Plus it seemed heated up and not fresh! Sorry Twisted Oak, as a local I have enjoyed many a meal at your establishment but people vote with their feet even if they don't complain at the scene. We understand the struggle to make profit but no one likes to feel ripped off!

We dropped in for food prior to going to the orange elephant. Fantastic food both for us and for the kids. Lots of choice for the kids. I had the cheese burger which came with chunky chips and coleslaw. Very quick service from ordering despite being busy. The kids thoroughly enjoyed playing on the outdoor climbing frame great provision and lovely space to keep them busy.

Amazing food and service.. lovely location absolutely loved the carvery, really enjoyed our lunch and finished out visit with a drink in the garden!! Definitely be back

We visited this pub whilst on holiday from Wales. We chose it purely down to the large park area for the children but from start to finish we were given 5* service by the manager Maz (I think that’s her name) she was so accommodating to our needs and made a simple birthday meal so special. Going for meals can be particularly stressful with 3 busy children but this was not the case thanks to this lovely lady. The rest of the staff were also wonderful, we visit the area every year and will be returning.

An impromptu family lunch for 22 was an impossible task on a Sunday - but not for the twisted oak who accommodated us all with warmth and great service. Delicious carvery which ran like clockwork. Hats off to this team who seriously pulled it out the bag for us. Thank you team

Having spent over 200 for lunch with friends i was very disappointed with the attitude of one lady who gave off a real air of loathing for our table. Very low patience, no warmth and a real lack of appreciation for the business we were providing. Very rudely kicked us off the table at the end as had another booking. Which we completely understand... But it could be handled so much nicer. Poor customer service has detracted from what would otherwise be a lovely meal. Not sure if its the owner or employees . ..middle aged with glasses.... Either way, she let the team down. I watched her talking to others too and equally she was lacking in her approach. Get rid! . The younger waitresses were very polite. Food was lovely.

My wife and I were travelling from Cornwall to our home in Sussex on the A30. As we approached Exeter, the traffic ground to a halt and then remained nearly stationary for as far as the eye to see. After a while we decided we would get of the A30 and head to Exeter to find somewhere for lunch. We followed signs to a “country pub” and found ourselves at the Twisted Oak. What a great find that was. A lovely pub set in a very rural location. There is a huge car park, a large garden with children’s play equipment. The menu is extensive and there is a selection of real ales. The staff we friendly and helpful, a joy to deal with. This pub is definitely worth a visit.

We had a party of 26, yummy carvery the waitresses surprisingly remembered all our drinks everytime we ordered! Friendly and a lovely atmosphere. Thankyou so much for a fab time ❤️

We were a party of twelve and Millie and Ellie did us proud feeding us all at short notice tonight. The food was great and we had a lovely evening. We really like this pub and it has a lovely atmosphere and great food. There’s a lovely garden with a play area for kids and plenty of parking. Highly recommended

I visited for lunch with friends. Very disappointed from start to finish. Our meals were absolutely awful carvery was taste less no flavour and the choice of meat was of a poor quality and over cooked. The menu meals we ordered where not much better, definitely not homemade and fresh quality. Not once did the waiting staff come over and check all was okay with our meals. When drinks arrived at our table the tray was just plonked on the table and not given out. To add to this disappointing visit was while we were eating to see the kitchen team having a cigarette in the public garden before returning back to the kitchen to carry on cooking, not quite what should be expected and definitely in full view of people having meals. The children's play area needs alot of attention and maintenance and a good clean so this was not enjoyable for our little ones. The entrance is not much better needs a good clean up. Very disappointed will not be visiting again.

We have been visiting the Twisted Oak regularly for a long time. In our experience, it ais always excellent! Top marks for service, atmosphere, food and drinks. Pete leads a dedicated staff who give you a warm welcome whatever the occasion. We have celebrated a wide range of occasions there from our Grandsons' birthdays as a family group to our wedding anniversaries as a couple. It is very cosy in wintertime with the Christmas decorations and log burning stove. We find the menu varied and invariably yummy! We do recommend you stop by for a drink, a coffee (with tasty biscuits), a snack such as cheesy chips or a carvery on Sunday. Dog and child friendly. Great garden with play equipment.

Had never been before but my partner had. The staff were lovely and I understand with COVID And the measures it can’t be easy. I was very disappointed with the food and beer. We ordered a AMSTEL beer and it was flat first time, then ordering a bit later the second pint again was flat.The chicken in the curry was very dry, the rice was all clumped together and cold. We paid £40 for our drinks and food and definitely don’t think it was worth anywhere near that. We will not be going there again

We have been to the twisted oak many times but never for a Sunday Roast. As usual the staff are very good, the Carvery was just exceptional, the beef was cooked to perfection. Only 1 picky thing the Swede was pulsed not mashed. Definitely will be going back

Wow wow & triple wow, we were in Devon visiting friends and decided to book a table for 2 for Sunday on our way home......The pub has just been refurbished and what a fantastic job, both inside and out. All the bar & waiting staff were friendly / attentive & professional, certainly an asset to The Twisted Oak.Lastly, but most important - the food was outstanding, cooked to perfection. We will back.Clearly COVID19 has had a dramatic effect on us all, however The Twisted Oak are definitively COVID safe in all they have done - a credit to the owners Pete & Millie.

All staff were friendly and helpful. 6 of us had the Sunday carvery. All perfectly cooked and well presented. The pub has obviously had a recent make over and looks amazing. This was our first visit but not our last. Need to try the rest of the menu as other meals looked great too!

Couldn't ask for a better meal and service at these testing times. Made to feel very welcome and nothing to much trouble. Waiting and bar staff are an asset to the business. We will certainly return next time we're in the area and highly recommend a visit.

Friendly staff member was the saving grace. It was a shame management hadn’t thought about face coverings. Our server was taking our orders one feet or two away from me and didn’t have a mask or visor. . 2 of us had fish and chips - three quarters batter, one quarter fish. Burger was very dry. Before it recently changed hands, we used to go for lunch quite regularly and loved the service and quality of the food- we went again in January and were really disappointed in the service, we went in as usual and asked if we could have a table for lunch, which we assumed meant we wanted to eat. We sat for half an hour waiting for someone to come and take our order or at least acknowledge our existence. It wasn’t busy and there were several staff around clearing tables etc. We tried to catch someone’s eye, however we were completely ignored. We left after it became obvious we were not going to be served. We won’t be repeating the experience.

Went for breakfast with my granddaughter.I havnt been here for years ,as it's always been lacking in one way or the other,however I saw it was under new management. Firstly, the staff are friendly and helpful I enquired about the play area inside , it was tidy , however the play equipment and room could do with an update , but the lady serving explained this was on the cards ,so fair enough , my Grandaughter enjoyed it anyway . I had a small fried breakfast which was adequate , and my Grandaughter had a sausage sandwich , which was fine ,my only gripe was the use of cheap thin sliced white bread , which just disintegrated on contact with the sausage and mine was overdone and a bit too crispy , that said ,it was served with a ready smile , and no I didn't complain , because the good was hot and adequate and my Grandaughter enjoyed the sausages , and for the price very cheap . Outside play equipment could also do with a revamp, but overall a good experience, hoping for improvements , so will be back.

12 family met here for a celebration. Good choice of drinks meals very good and super play area for the children. I admit due to some reviews on here I wasn’t keen but thankfully found them all untrue. We had 12 different dishes all served at same time and all delicious. Will return. Also plenty of parking spaces.

Decided to try the twisted oak as an alternative to the mainstream chains and expected generous home cooked fayre. Ordered the sausage n mash and small fish and chips. The sausage n mash was ok - nothing amazing and not a very generous portion size in comparison to the price. The fish and chips was very disappointing. The fish was the cheap frozen stuff you just wack in the oven and was awful. Worse fish I've eaten in a restaurant since moving to Devon 5 yrs ago and shocking considering we're so close to the sea. Also had the expectation of a warm, cosy pub but it was really cold. Should have stayed at home as there's 5⭐ cooking and working fire.

Visited over the last few weekends, they do one of the bests Sunday roasts just like mum’s, love the portion sizes, good variety of meats and veg, Yorkshire's are totally yummy. Think we’ll go back next weekend for more.

Booked a table for 7pm for a family meal with hungry children, didn't get served until 8pm the children's burgers had really strong cheese on which the children didn't like they had also run out of new potatoes.service was really slow and no one came round and checked every thing was ok. We gave up waiting for dessert and coffees as no one had come to clear out table after 1/2 hour of us finishing our main meal.

Qué lugar tan encantador para salir a comer. Buena comida con abundantes raciones y se sirve rápidamente. La comida siempre es sabrosa ya un precio razonable. Me encanta la sala familiar con una sala de juegos segura para que los niños jueguen con juguetes y toboganes. Significa que puede relajarse y tomarse su tiempo para comer mientras los niños pueden bajarse y jugar, no muchos lugares tienen esta instalación. El personal es amable y servicial. El lugar es limpio y ordenado, y hay mucho estacionamiento afuera. Definitivamente vale la pena una visita.

La comida y el lugar eran buenos. Pero la única dama que sirvió al Carvery fue muy lenta. La comida que salió tomó años. El asador más lento que he tenido. Es una pena, ya que la comida era buena.

Nos detuvimos aquí en nuestro camino de regreso a Cornwall después de un fin de semana en Bristol. La comida era muy buena, con muchas opciones para adultos y niños. Era lunes a mediodía, así que estaba bastante tranquilo, así que la comida salió muy rápido y estaba muy bien preparada. El servicio fue amable y el pub estaba limpio. Muy feliz, nos detuvimos aquí.

visited yesterday for lunch ordered a lighter bite steak with the usual trimmings, when it arrived the steak was no bigger than a small burger, having cut fat off there was even less steak, it had obviously been cooked on a griddle, as burnt lines were running through it ,also mushrooms had been cooked with the steak, they were also burnt, the plate was also covered with like a charcoal film. Not an appetising looking meal @ all Won’t be returning !!!!

Popped into the twisted oak for our evening meal, friendly staff and good service. Free WiFi worked well. They looked after my son well too.

arranged this visit to meet up with family for lunch. Booked table for 12.30 and arrived on time. Had to search for someone to say we had arrived shown table and given menus. Then waited half an hour before the order was taken. Further 35 minutes before food arrived. After Main course no one came to clear table although waitress passed empty handed several times. So after another 30 minutes- off in search of someone to offer us dessert menu. Finally managed that after another 20 minutes. Noticed 1 couple sitting at table waiting to be served. They walked out as they were totally ignored.

Poppped Into the Twisted Oak at Ide over the Bank Holiday weekend, we always receive a warm welcome from the owners. We sat outside In the beer garden whilst the kids played in the play park. Very nice indeed. Relaxing atmosphere. Ample parking always a bonus.

Very disappointed, I paid for X3 Adult X2 Meats Dinners. I’d have expected four slices of meat for the size of the joints. Tight with Yorkshire puddings which were dried and maybe cooked hours ago. I have no idea what was in the cauliflower cheese, it was congealed and tasteless. Lovely setting but we won’t be eating there again.

Absolutely love this place. The staff are ever so friendly and create a lovely atmosphere every time I come here. My partner and I had a 3 course meal and each course was delicious. Would definitely recommend this pub despite the few crap comments from certain people on here. I guess you can't please everybody but I don't know what pub they went to because I have never experienced anything like their allocations when I visit.

Waiting on staff friendly and helpful,place itself lovely atmosphere but the Carvery was all in one corner and felt rushed by the old chef who served us as he didn’t look like he wanted to be there and he had no manners at all!! Desde que llegó a casa, 3 de cada 4 adultos han tenido enfermedad y malestar estomacal. Así que me alegro de que mi hijo no comiera nada, ¿no volverá de nuevo sucio, asqueroso y hostil?

Por lo general, vienen aquí una vez al mes para el almuerzo. Como los sofás en el área del bar, donde el amable personal viene y nos sirve, buena comida y buen ambiente.
