Cheap and cheerful very good value for money

The food was okay. Reasonable prices with 2 for £12.50. The decor is not to my taste, very dark paint and little natural light enters the pub. They appeared to be short staffed with nobody attending the bar when we arrived. I asked for no Cucumber in my food but was disappointed to receive salad containing Cucumbers which I have a food intolerance to. I asked for this to be replaced but was told the salads are pre-made and could not be replaced. No partial reimbursement was offered. The rest of the meal was fine although clear that the curry is not made on site - although that's expected for the budget price.

The quality and price of all food is excellent - it's always hot when served and good portion sizes- the pub has a very relaxing friendly atmosphere and all staff are very welcoming attentive friendly and professional - we highly recommend 👏👏

The food was great and staff were fantastic. Food options were great too. Maybe would have been beneficial to me to have a reminder about pre booking the meals because it was on boxing day. Other than that everything was great and will definitely be back to our favourite pub. Also even though some deserts where out of stock the staff where extremely helpful and kind giving us other options.

Stopped by the other week while staying over in town. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Staff were quick on the service and the grilled chicken for dinner hit the mark.

Michael the manager is very welcoming everytime we come in and makes sure everything is perfect. The food is all ways cooked to perfection thank you Dan and the other chefs

The staff are wonderful. The service is great but they seem to be short staffed. Even though they are extremely busy, they are so polite and helpful. The food is very tasty and well presented.

Wow can I say this pub has just knocked it out of the water. If ever I went to another place ( which I wouldn't) and they had friendlier staff I think I might have died and went to heaven. Goodness gracious not to mention the food. Spectacular value for a delectable meal the chicken gyros wrap would have you thinking you were sat on a Greek beach sunning it up! Truly a most wondrous find in the turnpike tavern I have a new home and family.

Absolutely loved our experience here me and my partner came in simply for a drink and it was wonderful! Lovely atmosphere the staff were so welcoming and helpful couldn’t be happier with the service. Will definitely be revisiting this gem!

My grandson and I were visiting from Ireland and stopped in for food. There was a great selection and everything was reasonably priced. The food came out quick and was piping hot. On our next trip to Liverpool we will definitely return.

Was there with family really enjoyed are selves food was nice and price was ok as well will go there again not many mocktails but one I had was nice

Outside tables are falling apart could do with a repaint and filling in holes. The inside tables are filthy the staff don't go around clearing quick enough nor do they wipe the tables at all.

Meals arrived quickly. Person on till wouldn't allow us to replace chips with fried eggs, so we had to pay extra for eggs and the chips went to waste. The Stanley Arms nearby allows this so we will go there next time.

Good food superb service nice place although very noisy and too many TVs and it was not at a really busy time .

We were looking for a place, then we saw the Turnpike. We knew nothing about it but we walked in and had a great meal.

No ales or cask beers. Short staffed who have no clue who to serve on order. A local pub, for local people.

Myself and my partner visited her on 21st June 2024 and found the atmosphere was fantastic and staff were really welcoming and extremely helpful and when we ordered and received our food In a very timely manner the meals were both delicious and really hearty thank you to all the staff for going above and beyond.

Food was 10/10 praises to the chef . Always a good visit at the turnpike .

I went in (before Broadgreen hospital visit) for lite lunch, had none, so decided to have Hunters Chicken, so glad I did, piping hot and yummy.

Went for a bite to eat and bought probably the worst steak I've ever had. The rest of the food was good and the place is lovely

Generous portion of light crisp battered fish, chips, peas and tartar sauce , other half gammon, families, couples and lone customers all receive a warm welcome. A bit of a tardis looks small on the outside but surprisingly roomy inside yet still cosy.

Decided to give this place another go. And I am really disappointed the fish and chips was cheap enough but was like tying to eat a piece of leather but after a hard day's work was so hungry. Ate what I could, the mushy peas was like green water as you can see from my pic! Not once was I asked about my meal which tells me, the staff new how bad it was that day. Not nice to have to leave a negative review but money is tight at the moment 🤔

Worst food ever disgusting shocking terrible could not eat it. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Been there twice both times I was not impressed . Safely say never again.🤮

CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ITS ABSOLUTE WORST!!!! Booked a table for 5 people at 5.45 on 6th May. When we arrived we were told there was no table available even though we showed them an email confirming booking. I understand mistakes happen especially with automated booking systems but the really annoying part was the complete disdain in which we were treated by the staff. In no way did they try to assist us and looked at us like it was our fault, not even trying to come up with a solution apart from "perhaps you should try The Halfway House" The Turnpike was our local before but wont be returning in a hurry!!!

The staff here were very friendly and helpful, food was very good, great size portions. There was a good menu choice and also plenty to choose from at the bar even alcohol free as I was driving. Parking was easy enough too .

No atmosphere staff were more talking with there selfs then customers food was dry curry had five pieces tiny chicken in them when asked for some mango chutney got told no because was for a different dish even thou i would off payed asked to move table as was in way an we needed high chair person wasn't to impress that had clean another table for us then we needed a high chair that could close as my boys gets out No1 new about a different highchair then man brought us a new 1 so overall staff were not great they all looked as if didn't want to be there just talk to each other an food was not up to a good standard dry chips so won't return

The last couple of times we've been here their menu has been very limited due to being out of stock of half the items. This Thursday the bar was really busy so ordered drinks on the app. After 20 min and no sign of our order I had to queue up at the bar for 10 min to speak to the barman. He apoIogised but I asked for a refund and we left. Won't be going back for a long time.

Lovely place , staff so nice and friendly especially Lewis at the bar ,food is always lovely and hot. Fish and chips are mine and my mums favourite well done Turnpike see you again soon

Went for some food with my partner and his parents at lunch time. The pub wasn't busy and it was a nice chilled atmosphere. Waited quite a long time for my chicken salad and our other food (only wraps) food here is quite tasty tbf so I would go back. Just a shame it took quite a long time for it to be brought out

Can’t fault service or food. Our booked table wasn’t ready when we arrived, with some people still there, which was a shame; particularly as they didn’t leave for another 30 mins, so we had to stand at the bar as there was nowhere else to sit.

The bar staff wasn’t really friendly. They wasn’t rude but didn’t greet you with a smile ! Waited AGES to be served for everything from drinks to ordering food to ordering dessert. Food took an ok time to arrive not ages but not quick either. Smothered chicken was literally SMOTHERED with bbq sauce. Halloumi fries were far too crispy. And they didn’t serve fizzy orange so had to suggest orange cordial and lemonade to bar staff. Pudding was lovely - chocolate brownie with ice cream. Pub was busy and tables situated far too close together - massive table / party right next to me. It felt like I was sitting on their knees!! I couldn’t hear my conversation because they were sat too close.

Great food good family place to relax and get full great service

Great smiley knowledgable people serving behind bar. In fact I also visited last Friday 12/01/23 and so nice I came back with my family. Chap behind bar provided lovely ice and ice bucket for our sparkly and !!! 2 flutes with cold sparkly soda to chill glasses !!! Amazing never had that anywhere!! Fab hot and tasty food on the occasions, restaurant and toilets spotless Hope you’re ver proud !!

Been coming here for a pint and a steak for weeks now and aways very nice but this Friday 1st December was by far the best steak I've had 5 stars all day

Very disappointed got told to call the manager after my last review and because of my condition my mate spoke on my behalf nothing got resolved will never go back their and I wouldn't recommend it to other people.

I was in the pub yesterday with a group of 10 other people. 10 out of the 11 of us are all disabled and i just want to thank all of the staff for looking after us. The Service and food was superb. The drinks prices were fair too unlike town which is becoming far too expensive recently.

On behalf of "Cripple table" we'd like to thank the staff for their excellent service from the bar to the table. Straight away they were at ease with an abundance of wheelchairs, walkers and wobblers. The food was excellent, the drinks certainly flowed and the general atmosphere for us was superb. Thank you to each and every staff member who put up with us for over 7 hours! 😆

Ordered a pork belly meal with a rack of ribs, got a entirely different pork belly meal, not much light to read menu, so sorry did not enjoy my visit.

I've dined here a few times, the food an service are good but being charged a £1 extra each for mushy peas instead of the garden peas which come with the fish n chips was disgusting an the tiny amount too I won't make that mistake again..

We arrived on time , there was only 1 member of staff serving at the time ,we didn't have to wait to long to ask for drinks and pre booked table. Food was good ,atmosphere was pleasant due to kids gone back to school. So we could talk and no be interrupted by high pitch noise. Me and my wife were with my mother in law and enjoyed our time there . Our plates etc were taken away by a lovely mannered women ,who we interacted with ,she was very good but we didn't get her name but she was worth mentioning to thank her. All in all it was a pleasant experience thanks again James Taylor.

Have been previously and appears to have gone downhill over time. Extensive meñu of overpriced food with lots of add on choices to bump up costs. Food is dressed to impress IE chips in a basket etc does nothing to increase value of dishes Very little interaction with staff before during or after dining so hospitality rating not great. Made to feel as though they were doing you a favour by serving you in the first place with minimal interaction.

My favourite pub lunch I meet my school friends there every month. The atmosphere is chilled. We used to try a different place every month, but we've settled here. When you sign up, they send you 40%off vouchers from time to time.

We have been to The Turnpike for my birthday 14/10/the first time out for 4 years to a pub or eating out due to health problems . Just a shout out to Katie behind the bar ,she was good to us and made sure we had our drinks and food were correct. We enjoyed our food and drinks thank you.
