The Turnpike in Cherwell

Really delicious unpretentious menu and all cooked perfectly. Staff are both attentive and unobtrusive at the same time. Wonderful Ale and Lager selection and the wines available appealing to all tastes and wallet. Open fires so welcoming and the ambiance is cosy and warm.

Great staff. Turkey was lovely and moist. Crumble and custard, yummy. Atmosphere nice with log fire going.

Dinner was great! We were served by Matt who seated us in front of the coziest blazing fire! The atmosphere of the Turnpike was so charming and comfortable. Matt was also extremely accommodating to my food preferences and special food requests.

Warm welcome, good service, food was value for money. Plenty of parking. We had asked for a quiet table and got one which was appreciated. The typeface on the Christmas menu was so pale and small that it was very hard to read.

I visited the Turnpike the other day for the first time in months and everything was great. The food was amazing and the staff so welcoming especially Vicky she made the place feel so warm and that nothing was too much bother. I will definitely be back and will be bringing my family next time.

The festive menu's were very poorly printed out on paper and most of us were struggling to read them in the low light. We were also seated near to the door which meant that because the outer door was propped open, whenever anyone opened the inner door, we were blasted with freezing air. The food was generally good but there were no steaks available and my mothers' salad which was supposed to be gem lettuce, clearly wasn't and although fine, wasn't what she was looking forward to. All in all disappointing.

Just had a lovely here... Carson was our waiter, very attentive, friendly and provided a great service.

Had to wait nearly an hour for our starter which was only reasonable and another hour for our mains which really wasn't worth waiting 10mins for.

Booked a table but ended up taking almost 3 hours for lunch. Waiter said they had ran out of fish and chips but the table that came in after us ordered fish and chips so that was a lie. Messed up 1 main and we got it as a starter to be told we will take it back and keep warm until the mains come out that was 40 mins later. We paid £175 for a table of 4 and the food was just average would of been better going to weatherspoons. We have been going for years but won't be retuning to the turnpike

Matt was amazing. Beautiful works do evening dinner and spent well while going off the festive menu. Alex the Barman was also a joy. Highly recommend

Me and my fiance came here for dinner and was met by a very friendly server called vicky who was outstanding very friendly with great knowledge of the menu Also my partner has allergy which I spoke to the chef Ollie about who was very happy to go out of his way to help us would highly recommend coming here it's outstanding

Pop in for some lunch, custom service shocking. Staff off duty sitting about staff working more interested in the staff off duty and talking about Christmas jumpers. Waited good 20/25 mins for drinks and we had to ask at that point, there were only two other customers in. Shouting in the kitchen plates from starters left on table for far too long, food brought out with no knifes or forks. Food lovely just let down massively by the front of house staff. Well done chef great food. The manager needs to sort the font of house staff out! Would not revisit sadly due to the service. (Atmosphere poor due to staff, otherwise would have been 5)

Six of us visited, between us we had 2 meat dishes, 2 vegetarian and 2 vegan dishes. None where great tbh, and certainly nowhere near good enough to reflect the price. Pub was nice as was the waitress that served us. Sadly we won't be back.

We came in for the 40% off the mains we had an amazing time greeted by our server Ollie who couldn’t be more helpful who also gave us helpful cocktail recipe recipes to try at home

45 mins before our Sunday roast arrived. Heating wasn't working so it was a long 45 mins. But, the food was quite nice.

Found it a little pricey, but the food was good!

Bartender called Matt was extremely helpful and treated me like I was worth just as much as anyone else even though a lot more people were much higher class than me he still treated me equally

Matt was the most amazing bartender. Jon was also great at conversation and keeping us happy. It was a pleasure to be served by them both. Kai in the kitchen was also superb, the best bar snacks to support our chill evening out. Top job to all.

The skewers looked amazing, I had the seabass and the portion was really good with wonderful crispy potatoes, soft fish, prawns, tenderstem brocolli, peas and broad beans in a light delicate sauce. Dessert was a banoffee bun and this was epic, choux pastry filled with banana creme patisserie, served with crispy caramel topped banana, caramel sauce and refreshing ice cream. Excellent food and service, wonderful night and experience!

The food was absolutely lovely and our waiter Matt was excellent - very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu and had a very good sense of humour.

Really enjoyed the meal , the shame was that they do not offer a small appetite portion , as my wife found it too large , and found it a waste as she could not eat it all

We were seated by the door so every time the door opened it was cold We couldn't get the drinks we ordered as they were ' using up stock' We tried to order steak but had non at all We enjoyed what we had but declined sweets as they were so short staffed we had been left for so long we decided not to bother Disappointed. We would have doubled our spend if they had a full menu

I have been here a couple of times before and the food never fails to disappoint. The service is mediocre and it seems no matter what day you come there is never enough staff. Have to wait ages to be served and there after to get anyone’s attention. Forget trying to get a desert as no one comes and clear plates or give you menus. Today we tried the Sunday Roast. Great presentation, nice portion size, and great food except the roast potatoes which was so over cooked and hard, you can’t cut into them, let alone eat them. Don’t order the trio Sunday Roast as it is bits of sides or left over if the beef, pork and turkey - disappointing!

Pub is a nice old world look inside.sat in restaurant, Shared a camemtbert starter, which was disappointingly tasteless, melbec pie was nice, though. Took to long for our ordered drinks to come, main came before we had finished our starter, in process of delivering mains, a knife was dropped and a small gravy pot was knocked over send content everywhere, got an apologie but no new gravy pot. Trying to attract staff to order a second drink was protracted. Won't be going back

We booked for a celebration lunch following my son's graduation in Oxford. We were seated quickly and the champagne I had pre-ordered was brought to us without me having to ask/remind. Staff were great. They didn't hover but were prompt when needed. The food was plentiful and delicious. We did have an issue with the lamb dishes but this was quickly rectified. Will happily return again.

Very slow service, menu was very hard to read. Food was OK but not up to the standard id expect for this price range. The melted cheese was OK but not worth the £15.95 we paid the pie was acceptable and the vegetables were good - however the mash was foul and sour with spring onion. Beer selection was poor but the pint of Tim Taylor’s well presented. Staff service was lack lustre and inattentive. Overall not a good experience - venue was clean and well presented - however was not happy to pay the full amount.

Nice little pub inside with beer garden, great location just off road for stop off duties. Staff friendly, we just stopped here for some drinks.

Food left a lot to be desired. The cooking and presentation were pretty poor.

We came today on a Tuesday around 4pm so it was a fairly quiet but a nice atmosphere. Toilets were clean, inside was lovely but we chose to sit outside in the sun. I had the beef brisket sandwich which I really enjoyed and my partner had the signature burger meal which she said was the best burger she's ever had. Reasonably priced considering the quality of the food and the staff were also nice and friendly. Will definitely return when we are this way again.

Great Saturday afternoon, friendly staff

The staff were welcoming and helpful when selecting items in the menu. The food ordered was great, with large portions. Even the kids portions were generous. Atmosphere was pleasant, it's a shame it was raining as they have a large beer garden, maybe on another occasion. The place was very clean and tidy, no complaints here.

This is a really friendly place with a hard working team. Special shout to the kitchen for serving up delicious and great value food. Recommend.
