The Turnpike in Cherwell

We were going to Blenheim palace and stopped here for dinner after a long day walking. Would highly recommend this place. The food was excellent, served promptly by very efficient staff, especially Lauren who had apparently only been there two weeks but obviously had everything well organised and in hand. She was very helpful with menu choices, very pleasant and attentive and an asset to the company. Enjoyed every minute of our evening. Thank you.

This is a lovely pub with a good seasonal menu. It is a convenient meeting point for my family to meet at.Today we enjoyed another lovely time here together as a family. The service provided by Jess was exemplary, she was attentive and very helpful advising us when we asked on food and drink choices. The meal flowed well with the courses following once we had placed our order.The food was piping hot and delicious,we all really enjoyed our choices. I particularly enjoy the small pud and drink option as a diabetic. Jess was knowledgable regarding the menu, offering us detailed information regarding the dishes.She was warm and welcoming and made the experience all the more enjoyable, thank you. We will revisit The Turnpike again soon!

Came for a few drinks, ended up staying for a lovely chicken skewer. Vicky was an absolute angel, very helpful and friendly.

Came in for breakfast one morning over the weekend.Vicky was lovely and greated me with a warm smile. Enjoyable experience will definitely return breakfast was great!

Sunday Roasts - Pork belly and all the trimmings with lashings of gravy. Jess, our server, was an absolute delight and really looked after us. Great fun.

Arrived on time and we were setted,AMAZING ROAST the staff are all lovely but there's always one that truly shines out for us that's ROBYN she is always friendly professional and Really good at her job. I have been coming to Turn Pike for a few year and the pub never fails to provide top service, warm and friendly atmosphere and fantastic food. Shout out to Vic and Bobby who have always made us feel welcome :D

My partner and I returned to the turnpike after having a great experience the last time we visited and we was greeted by Robyn again who was serving on the bar, excellent service again and was served very quick and service with a smile, great conversation and she kept the drinks flowing, will definitely keep returning, great service and great atmosphere.

The food and service were excellent.

Visited the Turnpike today to see a friend, lovely atmosphere and staff were really friendly. Tried the crispy chicken of their bar menu very nice little menu and perfect for a quick snack. Will come back and try the main menu.

We are locals to the area and come here regularly. Never had a bad experience. Fantastic food every time and always friendly welcoming staff. Today we were looked after by Natalie who made us feel looked after. Great service and will come back again.

Went for lunch today, we had the Chicken & Bacon Salad & the grains salad with chargrilled chicken. Both delicious!

Beat spot in yarnton for pints and food. Spacious beer garden. Friendly and professional service.

Food here is amazing ! Best value for money around the kidlington/yarnton area. Service was a 10/10 we had Jess serve us and she was polite and extremely helpful. 100% would recommend will be returning

Went here for Mother’s Day meal,, Waited over 50 mins for drinks which we ordered, came in warm glasses!! Half of the food on the menu was not available,, once the starter came out we had to ask for cutlery as there was none,, waited a further hour for the main During that time my sister had to buy crisps for her children at £2 pound a bag x that by 4,, so many people got up and walked out because of the poor service,, We didn’t even hang around for pudding as one family said they had waited over an hour for their’s!! It’s absolutely shocking!!! So much for Mother’s Day disappointment

So very disappointed in the service and food yesterday. From the moment we arrived I can only describe the experience as chaotic. Even the so few staff were complaining. We were even told to leave by a family that was leaving after their meal. It was an awful mother's day experience. Waiting half for a bour for a drink, the bar was covered in dirty glasses, waited 30 mins for starters 40 mins for main and no cutlery as there was no clean cutlery. The manage tr delivered mains and spilt red wine all over the table and then struggled to clean it properly. We had to do that! This was all managed so badly the waiters did their best.in a badly managed team. We will never go back and pay good money for this pubs offerings.

Takes half an age to get served. Clearly the manager messed up as there was nowhere near enough staff working. Took 30 mins to get a table and almost 90 mins for the food to arrive. The wait time to find out the wait time for dessert was far too long too. Whomever runs that pub needs to pull their finger out of their arse

EXTREMELY LONG SERVICE. OVER AN HOUR FOR SUNDAY ROAST. THEY'RE NOT BUSY AT ALL. PEOPLE COMING AFTER US GETTING SERVED FOOD BEFORE US. NOBODY CAN TELL HOW LONG ITS GOING TO TAKE YET... CHARGING £25 FOR A PORTION I EXPECT AN EQUIVALENT SERVICE TO THE PRICE WE PAY... RIDICULOUSLY WRONG...

Awful experience. Bad service, rubbish food.

Dreadful service.. Daughters wanted to take their mum out for mothers day. Arrived at 1pm. Desert still hadn't arrived by 5pm. So many people complaining about the service and walking out.

The young server Teddy was friendly and informative, telling us what wasn’t available and alternatives. The food was excellent, with my salad and wrap to accompany chicken skewers presented prettily. The quality of the food was excellent and well presented. My husband enjoyed fish and chips and was glad to offered mushy peas. Desserts were also well presented and my husband allowed to have an alternative accompaniment. Nothing seemed too much for Teddy. He was attentive and gave excellent service.

We have been to the Turnpike a few times as my brother lives in Yarnton. Unfortunately on this occasion the food was very disappointing. It was in parts only warm at best and none of the four plates had any food on them that was hot. Pity as waiting on staff work hard. The kitchen at fault.

We came for Sunday lunch I am a fussy vegetarian and our server” Ollie” was fantastic !! Food was great ( my husband loved his roast beef ) Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel comfortable and valued Ollie is an asset to this company. Thank you so much

First visit to the Turnpike for a few years. Still a quality food pub to visit, we went on a Sunday and the menu was good lots of choice, prices were on the high side but the food was nice 😉

One of the best places I have eaten at in a while, normally only leave bad reviews so others know what they are getting themselves into. However for this place with a reasonable price has an excellent chief! Would highly recommend. Apologies I got stuck in before I took a pic

We came back after the other day while we were served by Ollie it was a lot busier but we got to try the Sunday roast we had the lamb and the trio it was amazing 10 out of 10 for the food 10 out of 10 for the service 10 out of 10 for the drinks

The venue has a lovely rustic decor, the menu has a really good variety of options and was well prepared. I will definitely be visiting it again.

Great bar and restaurant to stop at for a spot of lunch and a drink, great customer service from Jess and Vicky who was serving in the bar area, food cooked to perfection by the head chef Cam, would definitely come back for lunch again

Been a few times over last 6 weeks and had some lovely food in a nice friendly atmosphere. Sadly on last visit was shocked to see the slaw as a side with my skewer was no longer mixed with mayo but they used sweet chilli sauce!!, really didn't go together as really spoilt the chips etc but they apologised I wasn't made aware of the change and wouldn't stop me going back just have to find a new favourite dish

Typical country pub. Great menue, as "home cooked food" as it could be. Price/value is great. Nice car park with electric car charger. Ticked all the boxes for a country pub lunch.

What a warm and welcoming venue! I dropped in this afternoon to get some work done on my laptop (cus who enjoys WFH anymore right?) and was offered a great table next to the fireplace, which Jess had just freshly lit. I ordered the chicken bites off the bar snacks menu, which were really tasty and good value for money I thought. I enjoyed a cappuccino too, which was very well made! All in all, a cosy, friendly pub with great food and drink! 👌

Tasty food in a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very professional. They talk to my friend through the menu, as she has certain dietary requirements, letting her know what she could have to fit her need.

Went for a meal here after a long day in Oxford, and so glad I went. I had the chicken parmigiana, and it was very well cooked. The service by the staff - I was served by Ollie - was tremendous. I even got a seat by the fire. Highly recommended!

After a hard day a work I enjoy nothing more than visiting the turnpike for a drink or two. I always get great service, but Matt and Jess severed a very special shout out! The turnpike has a great ambience and is quality place to meet up with friend and family.

Our server Megan, was very friendly and helpful. The food was well presented and tasted good!

Came out for a lovely dinner to celebrate the new year with a couple of friends. Got served by both Matt and Jess who were so attentive and friendly making the whole experience worthwhile. Not to mention the food came out promptly and tasted lovely. Would recommend this cosy pub to anyone around the yarnton area. Jess and Matt were exceptional !

Really delicious unpretentious menu and all cooked perfectly. Staff are both attentive and unobtrusive at the same time. Wonderful Ale and Lager selection and the wines available appealing to all tastes and wallet. Open fires so welcoming and the ambiance is cosy and warm.

Great staff. Turkey was lovely and moist. Crumble and custard, yummy. Atmosphere nice with log fire going.

Dinner was great! We were served by Matt who seated us in front of the coziest blazing fire! The atmosphere of the Turnpike was so charming and comfortable. Matt was also extremely accommodating to my food preferences and special food requests.

Warm welcome, good service, food was value for money. Plenty of parking. We had asked for a quiet table and got one which was appreciated. The typeface on the Christmas menu was so pale and small that it was very hard to read.

The festive menu's were very poorly printed out on paper and most of us were struggling to read them in the low light. We were also seated near to the door which meant that because the outer door was propped open, whenever anyone opened the inner door, we were blasted with freezing air. The food was generally good but there were no steaks available and my mothers' salad which was supposed to be gem lettuce, clearly wasn't and although fine, wasn't what she was looking forward to. All in all disappointing.

Had to wait nearly an hour for our starter which was only reasonable and another hour for our mains which really wasn't worth waiting 10mins for.

Just had a lovely here... Carson was our waiter, very attentive, friendly and provided a great service.

Booked a table but ended up taking almost 3 hours for lunch. Waiter said they had ran out of fish and chips but the table that came in after us ordered fish and chips so that was a lie. Messed up 1 main and we got it as a starter to be told we will take it back and keep warm until the mains come out that was 40 mins later. We paid £175 for a table of 4 and the food was just average would of been better going to weatherspoons. We have been going for years but won't be retuning to the turnpike

Me and my fiance came here for dinner and was met by a very friendly server called vicky who was outstanding very friendly with great knowledge of the menu Also my partner has allergy which I spoke to the chef Ollie about who was very happy to go out of his way to help us would highly recommend coming here it's outstanding

Pop in for some lunch, custom service shocking. Staff off duty sitting about staff working more interested in the staff off duty and talking about Christmas jumpers. Waited good 20/25 mins for drinks and we had to ask at that point, there were only two other customers in. Shouting in the kitchen plates from starters left on table for far too long, food brought out with no knifes or forks. Food lovely just let down massively by the front of house staff. Well done chef great food. The manager needs to sort the font of house staff out! Would not revisit sadly due to the service. (Atmosphere poor due to staff, otherwise would have been 5)

Six of us visited, between us we had 2 meat dishes, 2 vegetarian and 2 vegan dishes. None where great tbh, and certainly nowhere near good enough to reflect the price. Pub was nice as was the waitress that served us. Sadly we won't be back.

We came in for the 40% off the mains we had an amazing time greeted by our server Ollie who couldn’t be more helpful who also gave us helpful cocktail recipe recipes to try at home

45 mins before our Sunday roast arrived. Heating wasn't working so it was a long 45 mins. But, the food was quite nice.

Found it a little pricey, but the food was good!

Matt was the most amazing bartender. Jon was also great at conversation and keeping us happy. It was a pleasure to be served by them both. Kai in the kitchen was also superb, the best bar snacks to support our chill evening out. Top job to all.

Bartender called Matt was extremely helpful and treated me like I was worth just as much as anyone else even though a lot more people were much higher class than me he still treated me equally

Really enjoyed the meal , the shame was that they do not offer a small appetite portion , as my wife found it too large , and found it a waste as she could not eat it all

We were seated by the door so every time the door opened it was cold We couldn't get the drinks we ordered as they were ' using up stock' We tried to order steak but had non at all We enjoyed what we had but declined sweets as they were so short staffed we had been left for so long we decided not to bother Disappointed. We would have doubled our spend if they had a full menu

Everything about our time at the Turnpike was amazing from when we walked in. The staff were polite, our server Joe was really helpful. Will definitely return.
