Church House Bar and Restaurant in Cherwell

Thank you for a great meal, managed to squeeze in 24 of us for a leaving lunch, double checked on the pre orders. Food arrived quickly. Most of us took advantage of the sandwich and drink deal.

Reserved a table for 9 for a birthday meal with family and what a charm of a place this is. It is a beautiful place with absolutely gorgeous food and wonderful service, especially from Oliver. He was very attentive and approachable to all members of our party even our younger ones, and offered a pudding as a birthday treat! The food was delicious! Simply delicious! I would highly recommend this place and have already recommended to friends and family, even those who live further away. Thankyou so much for a lovely meal x

The church house was a beautiful building and had lovely decor inside! The food was very reasonably priced, I had the hoisin duck and my boyfriend (who is the best btw) had the lambshank and both were delicious! Five stars 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

A lovely, well decorated pub/restaurant and the staff are great. I've been here for both family meals and a night out for drinks! It's a friendly and versatile location. The food I had recently wasn't much to shout about but it may well have been a one off

Found by accident whilst pottering around Banbury. The food was lovely and good price. The draught beer was good too. We had peri peri chicken and the roast strip loin of beef and Wainwrights Amber beer.

Food is top quality and very tasty.

Veggie burger was soggy. Other veggie dishes did not go down well with the group. Meat dishes looked good with positive comments Puddings were lovely

Went with a friend while in Banbury. We both had a great main course and a really lovely dessert. They were very busy as there was a large group for a funeral wake. They coped great and servers were polite and friendly. We will definitely go again when we are in Banbury.

Went there for a relaxed dinner with friends, the food was amazing specially the squid, great cocktails and the service was fantastic, Oliver made us feel special, thank you will definitely go back

Bought a chicken burger for £10.95 nd later realised food total on recept is £14.45. Vat was already included and no mention of service charge. So basically the church house stole an extra £3.50 from me. Disgusting, despicable and disingenuous. Advice to all check your receipt on the spot.

Came with a party of 5. Each Chicken dish was dry, steak was not cooked properly and was sent back to be done again. Dessert was the only decent food. Service was good but overall another disappointing experience. 1st time I went for a Work Xmas Party I came home being sick. Would return for a drink but not the food.

Excellent food. Had a cocktail as well and it was really good. Decided that if we are on a journey we will leave the motorway to come to Banbury so much more relaxing here than the motorway services.

Had the lemon and thyme chicken, probably the best chicken I've ever tasted, even asked if they had Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen. 😋😋😋

A generous 2 stars, the single cask ale is off, honestly, why do pubs like this bother serving cask, if it's not available, or you don't have enough custom to justify having it on the bar? Chose half an Estrella instead, £2.80, yet the pint is proudly displayed for £4.95, why am I paying a premium for having a smaller measure? I suspect you think nobody will notice, I'll keep calling out pubs who rip off their customers. The place has so much potential, but fails to capitalise on the beautiful building it occupies.

The experience was mostly great, food was tasty and very reasonably priced. Service was fast and friendly. I ordered the BBQ chicken which, as a whole, was great. Unfortunately, there was blood in places. The meal was refunded and free dessert provided. Without this slip up, it would have been 4 stars.

Stayed for lunch, had a lovely time, meal and service was great, we went for the set menu, 2 courses for £19.50 and were not disappointed.

What a find pop in very bright welcoming pub and can't wait to come again . Will be having food next time. Love the decor and outside seated Area.

Popped in here for a quick lunch whilst in Banbury.. We ate from the sandwich menu and both our lunches were amazing, the prices are good, and the staff were wonderful.. We'll definitely pop in here again 😊

Sat in the garden and ate duck wrap with chips and coleslaw. It was delicious. Exactly as described on menu. Service was very good and Vaz is a lovely chap behind the bar. Great place. Highly recommended 👌

The place has very nice features and lovely decoration. Variety of seating areas, including terase (great for the nice weather). Only had a drink so can't comment on the food. You need to go up a few steps once you are inside to get in and a few steps to get to extra seating and terase. Parking - there is short term parking with pay and display right Infront. After 6pm it's free.

We had a Sunday roast today and it was absolutely perfect, the chef is fantastic, I highly recommend eating here.

It was an old church. It was later turned into a bar. I did not go inside. I shared it because the beauty of its exterior and its transformation from a church attracted my attention.

Food looks very dry and tasteless. Not fresh at all. Beautiful place and service is good. But Food is terrible I am not sure how old the chicken is. I had to eat something because I was super hungry.

Great food, really friendly and helpful staff

I was lucky enough to have a wonderful lunch service on my first visit to this hidden gem! The hospitality staff were very personable and made sure we were at our most comfortable throughout the visit. I had a few questions about some of the dishes on the menu and was pleasantly surprised when the Head Chef, Ollie, took time to come over to our table and talk me through the dishes! He made a few recommendations based on allergens and I opted for the Wild Mushroom Risotto which was sublime! It was personally delivered by Ollie with some further information on the ingredients and recipe! Incredible experience and I will definately visit again the next time I am in the area!

Had lunch at The church House today. Two other establishments in Banbury turned us away as they didn't serve lunch on Tuesdays. Both recommended we check out The Church House, and we are glad we did. Though one person ran the bar AND waited on tables, it was quiet and service was good, friendly and (regarding our allergies) extremely helpful. The food was hot and delicious too. Our only observation was that salad was often the only option with too many main courses - would have been nice to have the choice between salad and veg, But this is a trivial point. Will definitely come here again next time we are in town.

Drinks good, food great (we had the lamb and the sea bass), service spot on. Been past this place a few times and not gone in. Now I regret we hadn't gone before. I think the menus/ads outside should be upgraded to reflect the classy establishment inside. They make it look worse than it is, especially the photos. Seems like a gem of a place hiding in plain sight

we normally have a great experience here. but that wasn't the case yesterday. it took a long time to be served, the food was of very poor quality. some of us ordered the 3 course set menu but had to ask for a refund on desserts because they never came out to the table. hoping this was just a bad day and we will probably give it another try another time. disappointing because we actually like the place for our big group meals.

What a beautiful venue with alot ov history. Had the butternut squash beetroot and goats cheese burger with chips and sauce. Food was lovely bit tight on the chips but 10/10 hats off to the staff would recommend .

Just home after a lovely Christmas dinner and a celebration of my birthday. So well looked after. Staff working flat out but nothing too much trouble. The Christmas meal was excellent! Good portions and real value for money! Special birthday coffe was a really nice touch too!

Have been a few times, but this time, it was always a major disappointment. Food was nowhere near up to scratch .....shame

Walked past this place so many times but finally entered to grab a quick bite to eat Location ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ At the top of Town with a good amount of parking right outside. Very easy to get to! Interior ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Probably not everyone's taste but the rather strange vibe of semi naked artwork, greek/roman statues and the gorgeous high ceilings with domes just worked for me. The place was also very clean and tidy. Service ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ The guy doing the serving was very polite, happy to explain the menu and brought the food quickly. We did have to grab his attention in order to pay, but he was happy to split the bill for us and overall was a very friendly chap. Food ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Again I was pleased with the food we had. Let's not pretend it was gourmet or anything but it was a solid eat, Seasoned well and presented sensibly. Overall no complaints on what we got for what we paid. Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ At around £10 a plate we thought it was pretty good value. £3 for a pint of coke or carling is also pretty good. Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 for all areas in my opinion. This place is not somewhere I would say is unbelievable but I would say it beat all my expectations based on first impressions so I will be back for more in the future!
