The Turf in County Durham

Worst Sunday lunch I've ever had me and the wife got the small dinner £8.95 and by god it was small next to no meat my son got the large £12.95 and his was not much better, never again!

Stumbled on this place while touring northern England. HUGE MISTAKE! Don't know what was worse, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, or the employees.

Excellent food great Staff very homley go to the Turf cafe at Consett if you want a really excellent breakfast.

The turf at consett is best pub for service music people who own it very helfulthey do sunday dinners which are value for money pub is kept clean tidy all times

Had lovely dinner at turf everything nice hot good selection of vegatables offer take out service also a sweet which is lovely get choice sizes of plates xpeople who own turf very nice helpful

23 of us went for Xmas lunch £5 for 3 courses excellent value and everything was freshly cooked I had prawn cocktail turkey dinner fruit pavlova and fresh cream it was all delicious finished with coffee and mince pies yummy. downside was wait in between first 2 courses, atmosphere wasnt very xmassy but still couldnt fault staff n food thank you very much will def be back

had best omelette n chips was freshly cooked n real chips absolutely lovely staff very friendly there was very few people in what a shame people are missing out nice restaurant area cut off from bar will def go back

Just had the most amazing full english breakfast and great coffee. Excellent service and relaxed atmosphere. Opens at 9am. Check it out ! Sells cakes too !!

Sunday's dinners are just the best ever eat in or take away , also the breakfast are just the greatest ever aswell with a large pot of tea , this place is a must do try it you won't be disappointed 😀

I love a good breakfast. So much in fact that sometimes I have to sneak out all stealthy -like to get myself a breakfast now and again, so imagine my joy when I discovered that Consett's best bar did breakfast? Well actually no, you can't because I was worried. Why? Well it is not often that a bar does good breakfast. For this I can cite 10 bars in the area off the top of my head, the leading offender being the Wetherspoons chain (DO NOT MICROWAVE A DAMN BLACK PUDDING), so it was with some trepidation that I forwarded my money and waited. WORTH IT. The breakfast comes with hash browns or home made chunky chips. I averaged the breakfast purely for research of course and the chips are phenominal. Crunchy, good colour, delicious. The breakfast comes with two DECENT quality sausages (not deep fried Asda value ones), two fried eggs that are done to perfection, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon that is just on this side of perfect and of course the crown of a REAL breakfast, the Black Pudding, crispy yet moist in the middle. The breakfast here will not let you down on a cold morning. It will not turn it's back when you need some cushioning from a hangover, it will not make you sad when you need some carbo-comfort. It is THE best breakfast I have had the privalege to eat in the North of England, only superceded in my my mind by the breakfast made by The Dolphin which is a 4 star place in Norfolk and included kippers with the breakfast (on a separate plate) and kedgeree; However the breakfast there was way more than the £6 that the all day brunch/breakfast offers here. In conclusion, I would rate 4* usually for the breakfast according to the price, however the price is totally worth it for the volume of fine food that you get. A bargain in fact. And now I am hungry and walking into town...

Cracking food and drinks at cracking prices, live bands of a weekend, brilliant pub, try the Guinness, best pint I have ever had

I'd recommend the all day brunch, the homemade chips are to die for and the meat is lovely quality not at all greasy. Well worth the money at a fiver you just can't knock it. Puts any other brunch I've tried to shame. The staff are always friendly and the beer is good.
