I came here for the first time for a friend's surprise birthday. I have driven past countless times in the past but never ventured in. Ample parking in the car park and a great outside area, full of seating and tables. Service was fine, probably a little under staffed for such a busy day but fine all the less. A mobile pizza truck on site served great handmade pizza. Many thanks for a great day spent with friends. Matt

Perfect Pub in 2024! The best atmosphere and vibe in Essex. Not too big, One side a traditional tavern and the other side a modern light wood floored open space which leads to a lovely open beer garden. Seating and tables in the open and under covers. Massive car park, in a quiet street. Absolutely perfect 👌

This place I have seen is one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots in the United Kingdom. It is the perfect location for sitting with friends, family, or even relaxing alone with a drink. The environment is exceptionally serene and picturesque, offering a truly delightful experience.

After phoning every where in Chelmsford to hire somewhere for my dads funeral without success we tried the tulip I am so pleased we did !! Lynette was so accommodating on the phone , the hire was not only free but no minimum spend in the bar either as long as you purchased drinks from the pub We had our own food which the staff played out before we arrived We had over 150 guests and there was plenty of room The pub is clean and the staff were friendly We could not have chosen a better place to send off my dad ! Thankyou so much to All all that worked on the day

We attended an engagement party at the Tulip it was a nice pub with ample parking. Had pool and darts of a good standard. The pub itself is a bit out of the way though. I appreciate it was busy but at times there was around a 5 to 10 min wait to be served. (Not sure if this is standard or just because of the event)

Had a private birthday party. Had a good-sized dance floor. Was able to bring own catering.

Been a couple of times for celebration events here, nice local pub with a decent pool table. Great outside area with loads of seating with sun shaded areas. Friendly staff, would come again

Visited here yesterday for the first time with my husband and step-daughter and her husband. Initially we were put off when we realised they only offered roasts on a Sunday (and it really wasn't roast dinner weather as it was so hot); but boy are we glad we stayed. Now, I am very hard to please when it comes to roast dinners but I can honestly say that it was one of the nicest roast dinners I have ever eaten. The gravy was delicious, as were the yorkies. And everyone else at the table agreed. Can't wait to go back for another one!

I’ve visited The Tulip a fair few times over the years, usually to watch football but most recently for a wonderful quiz night, organised to raise funds for our local hospice in Chelmsford. There is a real buzz about the place, particularly in the sports bar area where such events are held. Yet the saloon bar preserves both the intimacy and familiarity of a pub at the heart of its community, regardless of whatever else is going on in the newer part of the building. The Tulip also boasts a very large, decked beer garden out the back, which is just perfect throughout these long summer evenings. Longstanding licensees Lynette and Martyn are wonderfully obliging hosts, and I cannot recommend their establishment highly enough.

I popped in,as was out on a walk,and as I had passed before,but it was packed,I thought it was ideal opportunity to try again!! Very nice pub,welcoming,and,yes,I will visit again. We'll done.

Nice pub. Good beer and friendly service. Not always the best place if you are after a quiet drink, as they regularly have parties on Friday/Sat evenings.

We have been to the Tulip on a number of occasions whilst visiting Chelmsford and always find the atmosphere top notch! The Staff are absolutely first class and you never find yourself waiting too long for a refill. A day definitely worth visiting is Sunday and prior to Covid we were lucky to have some beautiful spring weather to complement an excellent barbeque followed by the best meat raffle we have witnessed in a long time. If you were lucky enough to win a prize, the banter from certain regulars was fierce but all delivered with good humour and grace (for the first win anyway)! Hopefully we will be meandering down to Essex again this year and will certainly be visiting the Tulip.

The Tulip is a great pub, great for regulars and new customers will get a warm welcome! Good community atmosphere with pub teams of Darts, Pool, Football. Great venue for parties/wakes/celebrations and a great service given. I had my birthday party here and I couldn't fault the service, it was 100% +++ and was a great evening! Staff are friendly & welcoming. Lovely beer garden with lots of tables/chairs and big car park. Give The Tulip a go, you won't be disappointed 😊

We had my sons christening at The Tulip (more of an adults party!) and what a fantastic venue for a party. Our group size was circa 80 with some children. Lynette and Martin were the most amazing hosts, nothing was too much for them and they made the pre-party stress a thing of the past! Highly recommend this venue if you are looking for somewhere local to host a party. Huge carpark also!

Great pub. Proper pub which isn't pretentious, but isn't full of wrong'uns. Seems like nowadays that's your choice for a pub, but thankfully places like the Tulip still exist!

Fabulous, community pub with a great zguvnor and his missus Martin and Lynette. They keep great beer know how to look after their customers and raise loads for charity. Dedicated veterans themselves they hugely support the ex military community they serviced in for 20+ years and the local associations

We had a baby shower at The Tulip and all the owners were fantastic - very friendly and accommodating, in fact nothing was too much trouble! Great outdoor space and felt very private - all the ladies were impressed and were thinking of occasions they could book it for. Amazingly no charge for the venue hire, our guests just bought drinks from the bar, which worked perfectly. They even arranged the food for us so took a huge bit of stress out of the organising. We will definitely be back!

This place is discriminatory towards others. They really need to read up on the Equality Act 2010 and educate themselves. As of right now, they are discriminating against others and promoting segregation.

Not the greatest pub. Felt like the owners weren't really interested to hear I wasn't happy about my food. Shame really, as they are local

The Tulip is a nice pub, but it now needs people to show them their personal medical records before entry. It's now shamelessly turned into one of "those" discriminatory businesses. It really is a shame. I would stop by here regularly with my work when doing our project work at Springfield hospital and the staff were always really pleasant. It will be the last unfortunately. Really disappointing

Maybe train the staff in human rights and equality. Banned people because of medical beliefs is illegal.

I would just like to thank everyone at the Tulip today for looking after my family and friends during my mum's wake held here today. They were so helpful and organised the food for us. They even set a table aside where they put a vase of flowers and a candle , where we could have a photo of mum and a book of condolences. Everything went so smoothly . They organised everything so I didn't have to worry . All I had to do was book the date and time . I would highly Recommend them . Thankyou all once again.

I thoroughly recommend this pub for party venue! Last night I celebrated my husband's surprise 60th birthday party and was super impressed with the service Martyn and Lynette provided. They took all the stress and pressure away from myself organising the party The buffet was superb and the decorations which they put up were amazing. I would also like to recommend the Tulip's resident DJ Gary who did an amazing job keeping everybody on the dance floor all night. I have had many parties in the past in different venues but the Tulip is the best service I have ever had. Communication was so easy and you get a personal service. The bar staff are so on the ball you never wait you never wait to be served even though it was packed. Glasses were cleared as soon as you finished your drinks so you never had any empty glasses laying around. Food was amazing and everyone commented on how lovely the food was thanks to Lynette who organised it all. I could go on forever with great comments as I was so impressed from the start to finish and have never had that before. I highly recommend this pub for a party andi will definitely be having many more parties here Thank you very much Martyn, Lynette and all staff.
