I absolutely LOVE this place. It just works on all levels for me. Never feels awkward when you walk in, never feels like any atmosphere other than welcoming and warm. Staff are all friendly, polite and professional. Plenty of outside seating area and often have a van offering street food which I highly recommend. As for the drinks, well I am literally addicted to Old Rascal Cider and can’t recommend it highly enough enough.

Excellent choice of German lagers, a variety of real ales on the hand pumps. Massive selection of gins. Very friendly efficient staff.

Good beer, cider, and loads of different gin and non alcoholic choices. Food trailer in beer garden. Lovely beer garden with plenty of seating and standing room. Dog friendly (free dog treats beside exit to toilets and beer garden is a nice touch) 👌 the service I found friendly, helpful, and attentive.

They don't serve food, the drink menu is good.

Lovely pub....had to sit out the rained off cricket match at the County Ground and this was an excellent place to do it

Top boozer. Always good selection of beer, including locals from the Chelmsford Brew Co. Garden is great too and a real sun trap in the afternoon.

United brethren has really pulled itself up from last landlords. The interior has been redone in a cosy scottish style and outside has a food truck. Small selection of cask on of ok quality but cellering could improve. Large array of keg including a UB branded lager which was very good. Price is the upper end of average at almost a fiver.

A great pub for lovers of real ale and gin

UB is a loud pub but cool part: there is a huge garden where you can vape a chat at normal sound levels.

Great atmosphere last night. (Open later than The Black Horse around the corner...) Nice and clean. Felt fun and friendly (although some staff seemed like they'd had enough and wanted to get off home). Range of snacks and drinks; some really good beer available, served in brewery glasses.

Good evening there, entertainment was good.

Popped in to have a quick drink before going elsewhere for New Years Eve. Haven’t visited for a while and it’s all changed. Not a cosy pub anymore. Only seems to be a few places to sit comfortably otherwise you have to perch on high stools. Staff pleasant. Did not eat.

It’s such a nice place. One barman in particular was so nice (sorry tall guy light brown hair) why wouldn’t you come back here

No food sold on premises however they allow you to bring food in or order to be delivered. Great female staff member when we visited, from Braintree and scared of spiders

A lovely pub, great selection of beers and spirits. There are some really comfy chairs and sofas and a great atmosphere. Large outside, in winter has a tippee with heating. Dog friendly inside and out. Well worth frequenting!

Came in for a pint. Had radio wave which was on point. Great atmosphere and decorations. Super friendly staff - hannah was happy to talk to us about the gins they have on, beers and sold us on the place. Would absolutely come back. Thank you Hannah!!

Super pub in Chelmsford, very busy on the Friday evening of my visit, but worth the wait at the bar. The Brethren of this pubs clientele are united in appreciation of the great job the pub is doing to serve their local community, a couple of ales available, but more craft choice, see the pubs bio.

Went to The United Brethren the other night. Quite a nice little pub, although we went as a large group and with the size of the pub, the two aren't suited as it felt quite cramped most of the time when within the pub. The outdoor area however is far more spacious and a nice place to have a drink when the sun is out. Staff seemed friendly and happy to serve so other than the lack of space, it was an enjoyable experience.

New owners have smartened up the interiors and beer garden is very nice however last orders came at 2215 on a Wednesday and stopped serving at 2230. Also have less choice of real ales now. Didn't eat so can't comment on food options.

Great pub, friendly staff. Dog friendly including treats! Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon with the Rubber Soul Djs. Buffalo Joe's food truck, amazing food and reasonable prices. Can't recommended this lovely pub enough!!!

Nice pub just off Moulsham Street. Good range of different drinks (boy just the common ones) with a lot of craft beers and other beverages. Really nice atmosphere too

10/10! Had a vintage stone island jacket missing some buttons the lovely lady at the front was so helpful with picking some replacements and bringing the jacket back to life! With the added dry clean the jacket is looking 10/10! Honestly over the moon! Thanks again

Nice live music 5* Update: The UB changed management since my last review. In more recent times, I've come across trouble with the live music aspect of this venue... including lack of communication, slow or no response, quality bands being treated unfairly or denied payment when it was agreed, etc. I've since stopped going here regularly as I went for the music and nothing else in the past.

Great beer selection, really nice staff, great atmosphere and dog friendly. What more could you want.

Tempted to give 3.5 stars, but I can’t on here (!). Essentially, the inside has been utterly wrecked by someone with no understanding of the character of the pub, nor a feel for how to make a place comfortable. But the outside space, not a garden- no grass or plants at all- is the winner. Spacious with good quality furniture. Beers: it does serve a good range of real ale. On 12.8.22 I had some tasty Timmy Taylor’s Golden Best. I’ve never seen in the south east before. Many other beers of draught. Some by the Chelmsford Brewery Co. NB. No food served. At all.

What a wonderful pub, a great range of beers & spirits, great interior and best of all is the unique beer garden. Sun, beer and friendly staff!

We are at the Rok Kitchen which had a place there and it was amazing food best chicken burger and chicken strips I have ever had.

Great Staff, very attentive and approachable even at their most busiest on a sat night! To top it all it has a great beer garden 🙌🏻

Not so busy during the day on the Thursday we were there but it was good to get the 2 cosiest seats in the corner! Bar man was friendly enough and it was pretty neat and tidy in there. A great choice!

Not as good as it used to be. Saw the excellent Playlister here on Saturday night. Bringing live music in is excellent but it means you'll be busy. If the manager can't handle the stress of a band with a pub full of half drunk folk on a Saturday night then they may need to rethink they're career choice. I witnessed him knock a pint out of the hand of one punter he was remonstrating with... Not sure why but he looked like the one who needed to be thrown out! And, since this changed hands this isn't the first time I've seen or heard poor service from those managing on the day. Being off with people when they are asking about the ales isn't the best way to retain customers. When the place changed hands the old staff should've conducted customer service training! They were excellent.

Great Pub! Really good beers, lovely setting, cracking beer garden! The management changed hands within the last few months and I wondered if this would affect things, but it's still a cracking place! Probably my favourite pub in Old Moulsham.

I've been here a couple times recently and each time has been a good experience. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is chilled and relaxed. My last visit I'd left my phone (one to many vinos 🙄) thankfully someone had handed it in at the bar, something that wouldn't have happened at a London pub for sure.. I'll definitely be going back soon 😊
