We were looking for a lunch stop that would be better than the local motorway services and came across The Travellers Rest. It was a friendly welcome for us all (including our dog) by an attentive barman, with good coffee available as well as soft drinks and alcohol. The light lunch menu had sufficient choice and two of us had toasted flatbread whilst the other had the scampi. I'm told the scampi and the chips were very pleasant. The flatbreads were both delightful with their different flavoursome filings but I have to admit that for me, surprisingly, the side salad was the star of the show. It was no limp lettuce accompaniment it was delightful leaves with a superb pickled salad; absolutely top notch. We had a great welcome and great food, and all from a community run establishment (and for little more than a vastly inferior fast food burger at Scotch Corner services). This venue should be commended and supported, and we definitely intend to return.

Visited Easter Sunday , had booked up well in advance as we were on an Easter getaway . We were first in and it was a little unorganised but staff were very apologetic . We all opted for the beef which was so tender and very flavoursome. Gravy was proper meaty gravy which was probably the best gravy we have had . My only niggles were the veg . One bowl for four of us … three of them being hungry men . We were sat next to a table of two who received the same veg . Also all the veg is just thrown in one bowl so if there is a particular veg you don’t like you have to pick it out . Staff did ask if everything is ok but felt greedy asking for more veg . Also in my opinion the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked and a bit tough but that’s down to personal preference. Staff were very attentive and friendly during the whole visit and it became very busy . We would definitely visit again on our next visit to Richmond

Really nice pub. I had started to go there every Sunday for lunch before the new people took over. The chef that was there before did stunning veg! Kale or cabbage in cream with bacon, root veg bake , roasted carrots and parsnips. Cauliflower cheese .Afraid the new chef is lacking in imagination when it comes to veg. Boiled or steamed everything in a bowl! I’ll be cooking my own from now on. Such a shame!

Called for a drink while passing and was not disappointed. What a wonderful pub this is and a credit to all involved. Enjoyed the real ale on offer and the atmosphere of the place. Best wishes for the future.

Our first visit to The Travellers Rest did not disappoint. Three of us had Sunday lunch, one roast beef and two pork dinners which were absolutely delicious. We also had sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie - both lovely and I have to say the best brownie I have ever tasted. The ambience of the place is lovely, the staff were polite and friendly. The garden looked lovely so it would also be a good place to visit in the summer. My only slight concern is for vegetarians - the menu was rather limited. Otherwise, definitely worth the 30 mile trip.

Perfect midweek supper! Visited the Travellers Rest on their weekly pie night. We chose steak and ale pie and the festive pie! Both pies were delicious but a special mention goes to the Festive pie and gravy! Absolutely amazing. You’ll get a warm welcome from the friendly staff and the food doesn’t disappoint! A lovely evening in cosy surroundings. We’ll be back

Proud to call The Travellers Rest in Skeeby our local community owned pub, I visited with 3 others to sample the Sunday roast, and found it to be absolutely delicious, we had the beef, pork & chicken, it came with plentiful vegetables, gravy etc, there was also a good selection of alternatives on the menu and extremely well priced. Everything was perfect from the ambiance, the friendly attentive staff to the lovely log burner all added to a lovely Sunday afternoon. The pub is also dog friendly where they also get pampered with treats. Great for walkers as it’s located on the edge of Richmond & the Yorkshire Dales. They also promote local artists/photographers & crafters with their items for sale in the pub.

Saw they were promoting their Sunday lunch on Facebook so decided to try. Acquaintances said the meal would be cold when they heard we were going. On arrival asked for a Sherry, they didn't have any. Went to our table and after some time our order was taken during which a scruffy individual wearing a filthy apron appeared in the bar. Hubby ordered a prawn cocktail and the roast beef to which the waitress said 2 beef? No, a cocktail and beef and a cocktail and roast pork. After the order had been taken to the kitchen, she came back and asked if we wanted Paprika? The starter arrived and was basic but not too bad though hubby did have a frozen prawn. Once cleared the gravy arrived for our main followed by two cold plates loaded with a large dollop of thick mash, 2 large roast potatoes, parsnip and a slice and a half of tough overcooked beef on one plate and a large dollop of very dry stuffing, crackling and 4 small overcooked slices of pork. A cold bowl of cabbage and carrot/swede mash also arrived followed by a knife for myself and spoons to serve with. Asking for 2 red wine there was only a choice of two varieties. This did help to wash down what we did eat. The dogs will no doubt enjoy the rest. On visiting the toilets we had to pass the tiny, dirty disorganised kitchen with cooking pots piled on top of each other and food standing around. We really wanted to enjoy the lunch as the pub is being run by the community.

Stopped at The Travellers Rest and it didn’t disappoint! The staff were friendly and helpful, the restaurant was modern, cozy and clean. The food was absolutely delicious, it’s so refreshing to get a home made kids menu with actual pieces of chicken and fish not processed! Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to eat on your travels, beats any services hands down!

Called into this lovely pub with my friends en route to Catterick Races. Really nice staff, very friendly and helpful. Between us we had corned beef pie, ham/egg/chips and a Wensleydale Cheese and red onion sandwich with salad/coleslaw/chips. All the food was excellent and very well presented. The pub itself has been transformed as a Community Pub and it’s beautifully decorated with a lovely large beer garden. Everything about the pub is superb from staff, interior decoration and food. Well worth a visit.

The Travellers Rest was saved by the community & is now a busy pub. The food is really good & you have to book in advance for the Sunday Lunch as it is very popular. The staff are mainly local & are very friendly. We were let down by a different venue for my daughter's wedding reception & called into The Travellers Rest when passing. They stepped in & not only provided the venue but added little touches like borrowing a gazebo, arranging flowers, having tissue hearts on the tables & buying in lots of Prosecco. The staff made it a really special day.

Quirky for sure but very friendly and very keen to please. The soup we had was delicious and having leaf tea was a treat. Scones on the table is a lovely idea but a cover would be better. Lovely chat with the proprietor and really good at engaging with our whole family.

Could not recommend enough! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. They make sure to go above and beyond for customers, making sure you have everything you need. Decor is absolutely fabulous and not to forget they grow their own fresh ingredients, you don’t get a better experience than that. Food is 10/10 so flavourful, definitely will be returning.

Just been for Sunday lunch with my family and was delicious. I rang to book an hour before and they fitted us in no problem . Lunch didn't take very long to come and staff were so friendly. Definitely recommend. Look forward to coming back. Thankyou Nicola xx

We visited here after reading some encouraging reviews and noting that “booking is essential for food”, we thought it would be a safe bet while we were in the area. Unfortunately, the 2 stars are for service along as the bar staff were very polite and helpful. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus. Other than that, the food was not impressive. We had the Sunday roast and the beef tasted of poor quality, and vegetables were not seasoned and lacked flavour. The cabbage served with the meal was pickled which wasn’t what we expected. We were still hungry afterwards but didn’t want to waste any more money on desert in case it was more of the same. The decor is very tired and the place does lack atmosphere unfortunately. We didn’t drink alcohol but they have a wide variety of ales to choose from behind the bar. We won’t be returning, sadly!
