The Trap is a great looking pub which only falls down because it's so small, but that's probably for the best as it was quite quiet when we visited. Music was much too loud for such a small pub and we eventually left as my head was spinning from the noise. Drinks were ok and well priced. Staff were polite.

Lovely little place great set up, just don’t take your kids there. Not family friendly. My 2 year old who is potty training needed a wee quickly took him over to the bushes. I was then told by the owner that there had been a complaint about my two year old. If he needed a wee that they had a toilet. He’s two and potty training! He would have not made it to the toilet. ( would it be more ok if he wet himself, on the way to the toilet ) Ridiculous!! Really upset us and we had to leave. Not family friendly at all

First visit for breakfast after seeing many positive reviews. I have to say the quality of the produce was excellent and I would have given 5 stars expect I do have a pet hate when it comes to a breakfast…the plates the food arrived on were stone cold and the toast instead of being on a side plate was on top of the breakfast, yes I know it’s picky but unfortunately breakfast food goes cold very quickly on cold plates, just my opinion,as if this was totally different I would have given a huge thumbs up for it. Having said all that it was fab value for money including limitless tea or coffee Could not fault the staff, very pleasant and cozy surroundings we will definitely go back and hopefully to a warm plate lol

Visited for breakfast Sunday (Mother’s Day) for three people- 2 adults and 9 year old after being told they do a cracking breakfast…… I know this place well having been for afternoon/evening drinks over the summer months and was excited to try the food. We were seated swiftly and given menus….I thought the table was small and cramped for 3 (but it was Mother’s Day so assumed they would be busy and short on space?! Although it was very quiet when we were eating?!) Ordered a large, medium and small breakfast with our server and informed her of a few changes to two of the meals which she wrote down and read back to us. She informed us the tea and coffee were “help yourself over at the back bar”. My first concern is I don’t really expect to be making my own drinks when I’m paying £9 for my breakfast and also it was instant coffee and not great at that. Unfortunately that didn’t sit well with us. Onto the food- they arrived together, however the changes on the medium and small hadn’t been executed and our server said “I did tell the kitchen” they had to be sent back to be changed. All the food came in room temperature plates (not heated) the food wasn’t overly hot at all. The sausage quality was good but unfortunately wasn’t cooked “hard enough” in the oven the skins were chewy and not rendered it was difficult to cut through them with the canteen style cutlery knives. The bacon had been pre grilled and gone cold then re heated - the fat was hard and white and stringy and again difficult to manage with a basic canteen knife. The ingredients of the meal were fine it was poorly executed. Lastly about the food- is the condiments which were basic cash and carry sachets, again at £9 for my breakfast I expect Heinz and HP sauces not plastic cheap sachets that this day and age we know are really bad for the environment….. Not wanting to jump on Tripadvisor to leave a bad review I had made my mind up that when they ask how meal was I will ask if I can speak to someone to give some constructive feedback (I know restaurants like this as I am a chef/proprietor) but unfortunately the server never asked me…..so when I went to pay at the bar again I was hoping the lady would ask how my meal was but unfortunately nothing again resulting in me leaving my feedback on here. One last point - the gents toilet had no loo roll (at 09.50- were they not checked ?!) also the hand sink water heater unit was impossible to get hot water out of. If the food was hotter, executed better with a decent hot drink then the smaller concerns would’ve likely been overlooked but we will likely stick to “just drinks” in future visits. Regards.

The new style Sunday lunch, which was NOT made clear through advertising or point of booking is a big let down from previous menu. Small starter choice, plated lunch with reheated shrivelled vegetables and served Luke warm. NO dessert included just brunch items like muffins to select. At £15.95 a person this is very overpriced especially as a Marstons restaurant adjacent offes far better value for money. After making a complaint to customer services, I am really disappointed by the return email response. We chose St Davids as a special occasion birthday meal choice and can honestly say I would not recommend to others.

Good food and service, we used a 50% off voucher which made the meal excellent value, not sure if that would be the case at full price. Took our parents for Sunday lunch ... We've been a number of times before and always really enjoyed the food and the service was always superb. This was our first visit since the refurb. Initial observation was that it is now more of a sports bar than a restaurant, which was exacerbated by the large TV screens above the central bar and loud chart music, not conducive to a pleasant dining experience. Starters were okay. The main meal however left a lot to be desired and that's exactly what all four of us did .... We left a lot! We each left the majority of our meal. First fail was the lack of hot plates. The food was bland, no taste, pigs in blankets and roast potatoes we're under cooked, whilst the sprouts were so watery I couldn't eat them and the parsnips were soggy and also inedible (this from a woman who loves her veg) On a positive note the gammon and the Yorkshire pudding were tasty. Beef was tough. When the waitress came over to ask if everything was alright we gave her our feedback. She said she'd tell the chef, and returned a short while later to say the chef sent his apologies! That was it. I thought it was usual for the chef to apologise personally not send someone else to do it for him? We thought we'd make up for the main course by enjoying the profritaroles ... Nope, rock hard with the choux pastry like cardboard. I understand why you have to pay for your meal BEFORE you eat now!! Very disappointed at what wasn't a cheap lunch at £75 for four carveries and four soft drinks. Did expect at least an apology from management but no one even came to speak to us.

The food and drinks were at a reasonable price, service was excellent and we didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive. It was a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The quality of the food is excellent and fresh. I had The Trap Burger and it was delicious, the chips were so tasty. The chicken fajitas and chicken kebabs were also lovely with all the food highly recommended. I will be revisiting and is ideally located for where we live. The lady in the grey suit was extremely polite, helpful and listened to our complaint which she said she had dealt with immediately. So too was our waitress and bar lady. We were disappointed with the vegetables some of which you couldn't get your knife through but our main complaint was the lack of hot plates for the carvery. After myself, my niece and sister-in-law had gone for our carvery with the cold plates from our table, my wife saw some hot plates at the side of the carvery and took one only to be told by the lady carving that they weren't for the carvery. Surely, it would be sensible to provide heated plates for a hot meal. This really spoilt our meal. I would recommend to a friend but would advise that they ask for a hot plate.

We have visited St Davids hotel on a few occasions but not since it has been refurbished. We felt that the refurbishment has been modernized a little to much. The food was cold and not as much selection as on offer before only had a choice of 2 meats as 1 had all gone. The roast potatoes did not have much roasting. The vegetables where cold. The service was not great but think this is due to the management not managing the staff accordingly. I had to ask on a number of occasions for items off the help yourself starters and desserts and had trouble finding staff as nobody was around. Nobody seemed to be checking the stock levels. All drinks you had to get yourself nobody asked if you needed any. Felt like it was help yourself to what every you could if it was there.

Booked here for their Mothers Day 3 course lunch. Table was booked for 7.15pm. Have never been here before but the Village Hotel near me (Bromborough) is lovely (it was fully booked) so I assumed this one (30 min drive) would be the same. I was wrong. The Sunday lunch menu was finished and we were expected to just order off the normal menu at normal prices - false advertising to me as this wasn't stated and up on booking, the table was for a £18.95 3 course. The place was heaving with football supports, it was a mess,, tables moved everywhere, dirty glasses and plates etc. Not a place you want to have a Mothers day meal! TVs were blasting and the lady behind the bar who I asked about seating didn't even know about the Mothers day meal that had been advertised! We found a table and sat for around half an hour with no acknowledgement from any staff. We were supposed to have a free glass of fizz which I had to ask for, and some vouchers which were given to us covered in sticky drink. We left the prosecco and vouchers and left. Mothers day meal ruined, very disappointed. Wouldn't return.

We had a table booked for 3 people on Mother's day. We were sat in front of a large TV screen which was on and a football game was being played. This meant that anyone in the room wanting to watch the match was looking across in our direction. The TV screen should not have been on on Mother's days. In addition, in the background you could hear some inappropriate pop music. Again too loud and the music was totally unsuitable for Mother's days. We took our cold plates to the chef for the carvery and then noticed the hot plates. When we asked the chef if we could have a hot plate she completely ignored us. When I went to the bar to get some drinks (3 drinks plus a free glass of champagne) and to pay it took the young lad over 20 minutes to pour the drinks and take my money. The bar seemed chaotic, disorganised and very untidy. The young man became very frustrated when he could not get the till receipt machine to work. AVOID THE CARVERY. We went for a quick Sunday lunch on the way home from a weekend away. Had to ask where lunch was being served as the main restaurant was being refurbed and no signage as to where we should go. From the moment we were seated it just wasn’t anywhere near the standard we had previously been delighted with. Our booking had not got onto the waitresses scrap of paper, however a table was found. Once seated the waitress asked if we would like to go to the bar to get our own drinks (bar was 3 deep with 2 people serving) we said we would prefer for her to get the drinks. 10 mins later our 3 soft drinks were delivered without so much as a tray. Glasses carried in fingers like a glass collector on a Friday night in a pub. Asked for some soup. Delivered hot which is great. Sadly it tasted like a very watered down vegetable soup and nothing like the creamy leek & potato promised by the only waitress in the place. Starters as always presented on a table to help yourself. No breads or chutneys available to accompany the pate or mackerel. Only cheddar cheese to accompany continental meat selection. Main course (by far the worst bit) served on old hot plates which looked like they needed a good scrub. Plates on table so cold. Had to ask a waitress (stood chatting to restaurant manager) after waiting 5 minutes for someone to carve the meats. Wish I hadn’t bothered. Meat was NOT on the hot plate, but on a board on the table behind. Finally got my cold meat. Vegetables were dry and hard. Kale shattered as I put the tongs in to get some. I think the carrots had more cooking on the hot plate than the actual cooker. Gravy in a soup kettle at the end of the hot plate not turned on so gravy cold. Put my plate down to help daughter, chef gone again!!! Had ask AGAIN for someone to carve her meat. Puddings very poor and warm as no longer kept chilled. Spoke to manager he said cheesecake etc rotated every 30 mins. We were there 2 hours. No one changed anything

The food was pretty bad. There is a refurb going on, so the food was being served in a conference room. No atmosphere and bright lighting. The beef was fine, as were the carrots. but the kale looked more like kale crisps. Roast potatoes were awful and the yorkshire pudding was completely crispy like it had been deep fried to death. The lemon cheesecake was barely lemon flavoured. It could have come out of a packet. I am glad we were using a bogof voucher, as I wouln't have paid full price for the food. It was bland and a let down for the Village. I wished I'd had a bar meal, which is usually much better.

Extremely slow and poor service. Hotel was clearly understaffed for the number of guests booked in, as half term/valentines deals were running at the same time. Waited over hour and half for meals, which is not good when you have 2 children with you (aged 4&5). Very disorganised and felt sorry for the staff who were clearly rushed off their feet! Spoilt the start of our 2 night break. Food itself was nice when it finally arrived. Breakfast the next morning even worst as still not enough staff to cope with the demand. No bread, no milk, no tea, coffee, bacon, eggs, not cereal, or fruit. No seats! Had to sit in the bar area and treck backwards & forwards waiting for food drinks etc which where in another room. Guest queuing everywhere, waiting to pounce on food when it came out! Not good again when you have small kids! By the time we did manage to get something to eat it was cold. This place is like Freddie Karno's Circus. It is chaotic. Firstly our ribs arrived looking like they had been microwaved. Tough, anemic and poor sauce. We sent them back and had them removed from the bill. The waitress apologized. My wife's teriyaki salmon was nice and my burger would have been if the chips weren't stone cold. I sent them to be replaced and the waitress apologized again. We had to find another waitress to get more drinks as ours had disappeared for a while. We chose deserts. My wife's was fine but when I asked if the Chocolate fudge cake was hot and was told it was, it arrived cold. The waitress apologized again. I sent it back to come back lukewarm. I just eat it as every time it took ages to find the waitress who was permanently busy even thought it was Monday night and the restaurant wasn't full. I would have asked for a reduction has I not had a discounted voucher. It is no wonder pub chains like Brunning and Price thrive against amateurish competition like this. I won't be going again

On receiving a buy one get one free offer from yourself I thought it would be nice treat to take my partner for his birthday. On arriving at the car park there was rubbish all over the parking bays make it difficult to park safely .There was scaffolding up at the front of the hotel which made it look very unsightly but I do understand that work needs to be done and scaffolding must be up. On entering the bar staff kindly told us where we should be going for Sunday lunch . But as we stood around nobody seem to be coming over to us. I went back to the bar to ask the staff again where we should be going. One young girl said We must wait for server to arrive! She did then proceed to find a server . After we were seated and the drinks have been ordered I had to approach a server to ask what the procedure was for getting food. The Soup arrived hot but the choice of cold starters was minimal. The maincourse was cold and the gravy was very runny. There was no ice cream for desert and the cheesecake that we were given was very poor quality . This was a birthday treat I feel very let down.

I’ve been here before and the food was fantastic with fantastic choices this time we were sadly disappointed. The meat was very dry and there was barely no vegetables on offer. Deserts are now on a order basis and it looks as though they have scrapped the waffle maker (the reason the kids agreed to come along) I suggest whilst the renovation is taking place meals should have a certain percentage off the price as the overall experience wasn’t great, my guests made comments of never returning.

Attended for Sunday carvery deal, there was dried out fatty scraps of meat, no pigs in blanket and the waitresses said they’d been busy and there was nothing left. Cheesecake dessert was a small child’s size portion. Apple pie not a slice but a mashed up clump of pie. Told there was no Ice cream available for our toddler. Presentation poor. No tea and coffee offered. Spoke with the Manager who was helpful, did explain they are in the middle of a renovation at present (that’s not the customers fault for poor quality) and took on board comments and amendment to our bill made to reflect the above.

Due to kitchen renovation we were not offered the menu shown online, but a limited choice. Service was slow. Food quality was ok, but we were disappointed that not all options were available

I know some people here have marked it down for silly reasons (one star because the staff didn’t ask if you’d enjoyed the food on exit is a bit extreme.!!.) We had the four course Sunday carvery and have been a number of times over recent months. We’ve always found the restaurant staff very polite and helpful and the food of a good standard and value for money. Ok, the hotel and restaurant are a bit dated and could do with a makeover, but generally we were very happy with our experience and will return.

All was good apart from the restaurant being chilly. Some of us kept our coats on.

The service was good, however everything except the meat, lacked flavour and tasted quite bland. Draft beer was ok.

Overall pretty good. 2 or 3 small niggles, and we were probably not the target market. Staff pleasant but a bit too intrusive - kept coming to ask if everything was OK, 2 different women, every 2 minutes. But at least they came and asked. Food OK, a bit lukewarm but otherwise good. Plenty of choice. There were quite a few, noisy children. Not the restaurant's fault but it did spoil our 'catch up with friends' dinner a bit. Probably more 'family' than 'grown up'.

Service was shocking. Cutlery bent and when asked for new never received has to take from another table. Asked what drink I would like every soft drink I asked for they did not have except full coke and that was in bottles as machine was broken.

We weren’t asked if everything is okay with the meal at the till at the end, this is why I’m writing this Food was poor, and to pay £15.95 a head for bland food was ridiculous. The Cavery wasn’t manned at the start as we were shown to our tables and there were kids waiting to be served but touching all the cooked meats and eating the stuffing and pigs in blankets with there hands. The soup- 1. would of been easier if it was self service, the waiter had to go and fill up her jug of soup half way through serving, it was quite embarrassing Starters/appetisers- 1. good selection but no flavour 2. no toast or bread avalible for the pâté 3.prawns were watery and bland 4.wasn’t enough salmon to accompany the salad in the pot Main- 1. The server didn’t smile or seem like he wanted to be there 2. My brother asked for just ham/gammon and he got 2 small pieces where as everybody else in the party had abit of all 3 and had 2-3 pieces of all 3 meats available which I think was unfair as the meat content should be equal or asked if that was enough considering it was a smaller portion 3. The beef that was served to us was the end of it, the server struggled to cut it into pieces because it was all fat and hard, my dads portion was inedible and he had to leave it there. The beef was so raw that it was red through and put some of my family off eating. 4. The pigs in blankets were dripping in fat and it was very sickly if I’m honest Dessert- I think it’s a really silly idea having 2 people serving a piece of pie - one holding the plate and one dishing out, couldn’t it be self service also? Surely their time could be better used elsewhere. The waffle machine and ice cream we were advertised was not available

Had a lovely meal. My starter, Korean pork tacos, was perfect. The burger that followed was delicious but beat me and I was too full for dessert which was a shame. The summer set menu is really varied and interesting. The service was excellent, with very friendly and efficient staff who made everyone feel comfortable and important. I would definitely go back.

A very enjoyable evening and meal. The staff were delightful. They were professional, polite but not at all stuffy. It might be nice if there was a healthy option on the dessert set menu. We will come again.

Spent a couple of nights at the Village Hotel. Took advantage of the Thursday 2 courses for £29 for two including a glass of Prosecco. The restaurant initially was very quiet, resulting in very good service. Choice of meals on the set menu was good. All our items were well prepared and presented and vet tasty especially Korean tacos. The young servers were friendly and attentive. The meal and bottle of wine was £50 good value for a hotel.

The kitchen lost our order, so we had to wait over an hour for the main course!!! This was over an hour & a half for one of us who did not have a starter.

Enjoyable first visit. The hotel and dining area was pleasant. The wait staff were polite and courteous. The main course was disappointing (meats were delicious but the vegetables were over cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were dripping in fat). The starters and deserts were delicious and there was lots of choice. Coffee wasn’t included in the price of the 4 course meal, surprisingly, and increasing the meal price by £3 after booking because the hotel realised it was Mother’s Day was disappointing. The end of the meal was spoilt by children running amok in the restaurant and left to run free by their parents and not stopped from doing so by staff either. Overall a nice venue but unlikely to return for the carvery experience.

Dining room was pleasant surrounding and staff courteous. The starters were for people with a more classy palate than ours. It was however Mother's Day so decided to treat mum who thoroughly enjoyed the day. The food was on the expensive side for a carvery. When we booked we were quoted £14.95 but received email night before stating as it was mother seat it would be £17.95. The booking had been made in plenty of time so you can imagine our displeasure so late. We would not go for the carvery here again. The server made sure you portion of meat was very small, and vegetables were hard and undercooked. The roast potatoes however were perfect and all food was hot. Deserts were displayed nicely and family had sundae ice cream. The meal was advertised as 4 course eat as much as you like. We had expected coffee with our meal but this was not offered.

The place it's self needs a big overhaul, good was nice, staff friendly enough, just not at clearing plates when you have finished your meal. I wouldn't mind but it wasn't even busy. The manger of the restaurant was very apologetic, and didn't charge us for the wine we had. I wouldn't go here again.

This used to be a lovely place and the Sunday lunch used to be really nice. They’ve decided to put the prices up and cut the portion sizes now, I questioned about the children’s meal size and apparently it’s tiny now it’s a different chef and wouldn’t even suit a 10 year old. So had to buy an adult portion. Even the 10 year old finished the adults meal! Will never return

Popped into here for a quick bite to eat and drink after going around Mold doing some shopping. The location of the place is ideal as it's located right on the main crossroads of the town and within a very short walk to the other shops in Mold. I found the staff to be very friendly when I entered and they made me feel at ease. I bought a cup of tea and a slice of cake (Persian lemon cake) all for just over £5, which seems reasonable considering other coffee shops. The cake was superb and a decent size for a slice - no scrimping here! Also, it is a nice location to just enjoy a cup of tea whilst watching the world go by, especially if you manage to get one of the window seats. I did notice they had a good choice of drinks and cakes available on the menu, so there should be something for anyone who chooses to visit in the future. Highly recommended!
