I arrived at The Swan House for a meal out with my boyfriend and his brother (we are 19, his brother 17) and were greeted by a gentleman near the door. We were refused entry in a very rude, brief encounter. I understand that entry refusal is at the establishments discretion, as well as some places being less keen on younger people entering - and I can respect this. However we were provided with little grounds for refusal other than that my boyfriend 'looked like he was about 12' to which he politely offered to provide photographic ID. I respect the gentleman's decision however I believe that it was delivered in a highly rude and unprofessional manner which quite frankly made me very upset. Upon arriving at The Swan House, there were no guidelines, terms or conditions for entry posted, nor is anything specified on the website. Whether or not a person is to be admitted, I believe they should be treated with dignity and respect which unfortunately tonight we were not. I am gutted to leave this review, as I'm sure that the service, staff and food inside would have been wonderful. We had only entered to ask about the brothers allergies and whether he would have been able to safely have a meal there. I am on the autism spectrum and find eating out difficult at the best of times, and honestly this experience has made it a lot worse. However I wish all the best to the rest of the team.

Visited Beccles while on holiday in the area and when it came to lunch time took a look on-line at what was on offer in the town centre. I was attracted by the reviews of the food and service provided at Swan House and as good as the reviews are they actually struggle to do justice to the reality. Two lovely ladies running the bar and kitchen could not have been more friendly and welcoming, the property itself has loads of character, is tastefully decorated and has a really feel nice feel. The lunch menu is not massive but has good choices, my eye had been caught by the Seafood platter and to say I was not disappointed is a massive understatement, it was truly one of the best meals I have ever eaten, absolutely superb. I have already recommended to family members who holiday in the area to make a point of lunching here as I will again next time I'm anywhere nearby.

We got caught in a downpour and took refuge in The Swan House, Beccles, Suffolk. Friendly staff found us a table as it was lunchtime. Wow, this restaurant/bar punches well above its weight, the seafood platter and vegetarian platter were superb in both presentation and the quality of food. The locals frequented it which is always a good sign. Quaint english pub with quality service.

We were on the North Sea Coast Cycle Path and booked this hotel for one night. The rooms have been renovated very lovingly and even though the room is small, it feels very comfortable. We had a room with a balcony and were able to sleep with the balcony door open at night. I would also like to mention the young man who checked us in. He was very accommodating and friendly. We were able to safely store our bikes in the hotel owner's garage overnight. He spontaneously organized this for us. Thanks for that.

The pub offers various platters. We went for a seafood platter which was fantastic. Great food at a great price. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We sat outside as the weather was great. Inside was tastefully decorated. We will certainly return for another seafood platter before we try the others.

The full Scampi and chips was fine. The small cod and chips was not. The batter was inedible and the fish poor quality. The cappuccino from the machine had bitter undiluted coffee on the foam and almost cold. The tea was a much larger cup size and as its served in a glass mug made it too hot to hold let alone drink. We had not been since the take over and probably won't return again. It's a shame as it was a good place to visit.

We stopped at the Swan House for a drink and lunch mid week and had a lovely experience. We were in the door as soon as it opened and after a nice chat with the proprietors, we were sat tucking in to our meat and fish platters within ten minutes. Food was impeccable and we’d definitely stop in on our next visit to a Beccles.

Town house cafe in Beccles was a stop in for a snack and hot drink. Clean and well decorated inside. Service and food was good, but like most independents struggling for customers in these times , and noticeable how cold it was inside. Do support these places.

Up until the covid outbreak I was, along with my wife used the Town House Café on a regular basis. The food is always very good, the service is also very good, it's clean and tidy and is definitely a favourite of pensioners as they have a special each day for the pensioners. I would highly recommend the Town House Café for your meal while in Beccles.

Arrived early in Beccles so stopped in here for a coffee. I wasn’t planning on eating but the lady behind the counter was wearing a slimming world apron- so I asked and she adapted the breakfast for my diet needs! Even coming over to offer me a poached egg instead of scrambled. My son finished his scrambled egg on toast. Lovely breakfast, great coffee and hot chocolate, brilliant service. Will definitely be back.

We’ve been to The Town House before as its great value, no frills, good food. This time was the same. I had the big breakfast of 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 eggs, beans, mushrooms, grilled tomato, black pudding, fried sliced potatoes and a slice of fried bread. So much food that it hardly fit on the plate! A challenge to scoff the lot, but I love a challenge and won a resounding victory! So quantity 10/10, quality 9/10, presentation 8/10, VFM 11/10 Brilliant! No frills but a good honest British cafe without any grease. It’s right opposite the main church in Beccles. Give it a go, you’ll not be sorry

We had a very good cooked breakfast here. Reasonably priced and tasty. The place is clean, lady who served us was friendly. Great budget place. If you are looking for chic, boutique, more expensive - whatever else you call it - you will be looking for somewhere else in Beccles! Great for our requirements.

Being a bus enthusiast I persuaded my wife to go to Beccles as there was a new bus running on that route. When we got there it was time for dinner and we came across the Town House. The menu outside said pensioners special Roast beef and vegetables plus cuppa tea £4.95. So in we went and were glad we did.It arrived very quickly and was pipping hot.The portions were adequate and the best bit was the veggies were fresh not tinned like you get in some of the chain restaurants. It was busy all the while we were there so the locals know a good thing when they see it

I used to practically live in this café in the early nineties, friends would drift in and out and it's a nostalgic stop nowadays. I even thought about buying it...it's nowt special, just a normal café but it's bright and friendly and clean and that's what I want from a café.

Although the decor and menu choices are reminiscent of the 1970's the cafe has been awarded the highest food safety/hygiene mark and the food to-day was quite acceptable. There are probably better choices of cafe nearby but for a choice of full English breakfasts, and newspapers to read it's worth a try.
