The Shadingfield Fox in Waveney

We stopped here for a last minute Sunday roast. We hadn't booked so we were expecting to be turned away. The staff were great but the food was even better. We were very surprised to see the quality of food coming out. We both had roast beef and it was delicious. The parsnip crisp shavings in the Yorkshire was a great touch. Everything was cooked perfectly. The pub decor is a little out dated but who cares when food is this good. It was reasonably priced too. The staff were very polite and on the ball. There was even an open fire which was a treat on such a cold day. Highly recommend the roast The photo doesn't do it justice, it was a big plate!

Food was excellent plenty if it nicely presented.

It should be noted that the Fox is now under new management and a new chef and menu as of February 2024. So, disregard older reviews. We have been in twice since the new chef started. The food is the best it has been for a couple of years. Between us, we have had the sea bass, burger and linguine. All the dishes we would have again (already have with the sea bass). Going in again this week. Pictures of the food are on the facebook page but again, look at Feb 24 onwards.

Had a fabulous meal this evening, hot food, tasty, great atmosphere, made to feel welcome. Great service. Portion sizes huge, couldn't eat it all. Will definitely go again.

Looking for a quick pint and food on a drive through Suffolk and this pub was local, with good reviews The barman, and presumable owner was friendly enough, and the choice of drinks was all good. Inside is typically quaint, with a large woodburner, exposed beams, brickwork etc. Once we were stood at the bar, a young lad came down from upstairs and gave us the finger before finding what I can presume was his father, the owner. We were served drinks by the owner, and the young daughter took over payment on the card machine, prices were good for the drinks we ordered. Tap on the top to pay and off she goes, no thanks or acknowledgement. The we sat down in front of the unlit woodburner, and then listened to someone effing and blinding upstairs at the son. Needless to say we drank up and left, cracking atmosphere. Im sure it's just an off day and this pub is lovely most days but just not today. Made us smile though, certainly a different ambience than we expected.

Great night out with a local Indian street food company supplying the meals and the landlord supplying the real ale which he brews himself and excellent it is. Also a variety of lagers, ciders, wines and spirits. Good prices and a nice easy atmosphere. Also dog friendly.

Had lovely drink Boxing Day, great selection on local beers, nice, warm and friendly atmosphere. Will go again and sample a few more of those beers. C

Superb pub serving great food, and great beer. The born and bred Suffolk lady behind the bar was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of dogs in the bar which made it slightly noisy but very homely. Both meals my wife and I had, fish and chips and the cheeseburger were very good. 2 hours flew by and would have stayed albeit I was driving back to Kent the next day. Thank you, ladies and Schweppes, the spring behind the bar :-)

More vegan options would be ace!

We love it here at the Shadingfield Fox, Claire and Spencer are so friendly. There is always a very homely feel to the place and we are well looked after there. The Sunday roast was lovely. Great selection of meats. The deserts were lovely too and there were plenty to choose from. Would definitely recommend.

Nice proper, unmodernised local pub with a great selection of real ales

This time last week 5 Surrey ladies went to The Fox for Sunday roast and we weren’t disappointed, the food was amazing and the fun and laughter that followed playing the collection of Vinyls, singing and dancing was extremely memorable!! Spencer, the staff and all the locals were the most welcoming and I’m not sure the pub knew what hit it on that Sunday but were very accommodating and everyone joined in!!

A very warm welcome from the lovely staff and locals. Sunday roast was awesome as were the classic vinyls (some youngsters might not know what they are 🤣) being played. Fabulous day/night making new friends…can’t wait to return!

We arrived at this lovely pub after walking across the fields at around 1.30pm on a Sunday and we didn't leave until 10.30! We instantly made friends with Spencer and lots of the lovely locals during the afternoon and had a delicious roast dinner... The sticky toffee pudding was awesome! Tanya was a lovely waitress and barmaid.. Nothing was too much trouble. The darts and especially the vinyl made the whole day even more fabulous. We played banging tunes which got the whole pub singing and dancing and almost drank the bar dry. Big shout out to Ernie, Charlie and gang and also the lovely Ian. It was the best day ever in this fab little pub and the 5 girls from Epsom will definitely be back!

Nice place this, very friendly staff. Visited here for a meal with family, reasonable menu selection, delivered in good time. Good portions, tasty etc. Nice selection of desserts as well, what's not to like about crumble with custard😀 They also offer Friday fish and chip nights, a curry night at two meals for £12.95 and a steak night (different prices). Great country pub. We went here for a beer festival in June. As well as a great selection of real ales already on at the bar there were 12 barrels on the rack. Great atmosphere, nice patio and garden area, live music, good food, great staff. Lovely old building with lots of parking. Second visit to the fox. Once again the food was top draw. Variety on the menu and extremely reasonable cost. As a group of 4 the service was quick and very friendly, the food was excellent two of us had the steak cook perfectly to how we requested. My dad had the fishcakes which he really enjoyed. Later we found out it was gulten free as well. This restaurant has become one of our favourite places to eat. We have also booked a table as they gone up quickly at prime times.
