Le Roc Very quiet Weds late lunch just as the rain arrived, the two young ladies covering front of house were welcoming and happy adding charm to a cosy feeling cafe. We were there to celebrate 26 yrs together and hoped for a quiet memorable meal and Le Roc duly delivered - definitely made the right decision to choose here. We shared the fish platter to start with a house Rose followed by the house specialty of Chowder - it was all fab and cooked to perfection. I left writing the review for 10 days just to make sure the feeling we came away with was as lovely as we thought - thank you Le Roc for a great lunch celebration.

Excellent lunch with the family. Sharing platter to start, and then really well prepared main dishes. Relaxed, well-organised and well trained staff. It was a very enjoyable experience. It's nice to be down at the harbour for a change, as we haven't been down there much this year so far. Gérard and his team do a fantastic job.

Second time that I have had lunch at Le Roc and couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience. The staff here are genuinely all very friendly and importantly the chef clearly knows his business. The unpretentious combination of obviously fresh ingredients is superb and consequentially the dishes on offer deliver considerably more than one might expect of a "cafe". Ok the menu is short(ish) with an understandable emphasis on fish, but given the location, and surroundings, this is definitely a good thing. The cafe has a casual but upmarket feel and with the option of some very decent wines to compliment the food, it is hard to see how the place could be improved upon!

We travel from Milton Keynes once a month to visit our 92 year old mum and we always choose Le Roc cafe for lunch. The setting overlooking the harbour and river estuary is lovely and the food always tasty and well presented. One of the main reasons we visit is the service and warm welcome we received from the staff. They can’t do enough for you and today they excelled themselves by singing Happy Birthday and presenting a cake with a candle to our mum. It made her day very special. If you visit Southwold you MUST visit Le Roc cafe. You won’t be disappointed!

We walked past and thought looked nice. A couple of days later we walked past again late morning and went in for tea and a snack, took one bite of the Rocky road and went oh how good, the combo of the usual stuff plus nuts, cherries and marzipan. Plus the dining room rustic, understated and elegant all at the same time. So we booked it for lunch the next day. The initial expectations from tea were not only meet at lunch but surpassed. The food was really good bistro fare, lovely Vin De Maison. Added to this are a very friendly team who make an excellent establishment superb. This place was a trip highlight…oh and I forgot the great view.

When we visited the Le Roc on a Saturday lunchtime with family and a small dog we received a very friendly welcome. We chose two of the sharing platters and added a smoked salmon and a calamari starter for good measure. This proved to be plenty of food for four of us. The food and the service was excellent and we look forward to retuning in the summer and sitting out on the new sun deck.

An excellent place for a bit of lunch on a chilly but bright day. As we entered through the door with our dog we were made immediately welcome and chose to sit at the window with a wonderful view across the harbour. There were some excellent lunches on offer, but we settled for a sharing fish platter with prawn cocktail and chips on the side. This was served promptly and was delicious. The staff were attentive, chatty and engaging, making our lunch delightful.

We went for a meal at just before 2.30 pm to be told the kitchens were closed so only drinks and cakes werd available- there was no chance of any leniency re timing. We had tea and scones but had to ask for the radio to be turned down as it was on fairly loudly (who for ??) We returned for breakfast the next day. I asked to not have the beans as listed on the breakfast and be substituted for maybe more mushrooms or an egg. We were told emphatically NO which was most disappointing. I remember a time at this great cafe when customer service was friendlier and that you could have what you liked and substitute an item for something else. The cafe is clean and pleasant to spend time in but has maybe lost a little regarding charm and friendy character that it once had - shame really !!

genuinely enjoyed the interior of the cafe, cosy and welcoming. Unfortunately very disappointed with the cod and chips. In my opinion the fish was a supermarket square reconstituted fish, the batter was hard outside and undercooked in the middle, the fish was sparse and tasteless. What a shame the chips were nice as was the coffee. Other customers having jacket or quiche looked really nice. For the price very disappointed. Most fish and chip places along this stretch of coast offer fresh fish lightly battered, this definately was not. Oh well you live and learn!!

We love this cafe for breakfast. Arrived this morning – and it was a cold morning – and it was very cold inside the cafe. The stove was alight and very welcoming but elsewhere in the space it was cold. The chairs were so icy to sit on that we had to take off our warm coats and sit on those. The half English breakfast and the mushrooms on toast with a sausage were, as usual, beautifully cooked but everything got cold quickly, including the coffee. It transformed what is usually a pleasant outing into something we had to rush through in order to leave and get warm somewhere else. The service was excellent, the view is wonderful, the food was delicious. But there was a different feeling about the place somehow, fewer nicknacks on the walls, almost like it had changed hands recently. On asking, I was assured that it hadn’t changed hands. Would normally give a 5/5 rating but today the cold ruined our experience. We won’t be coming back until the weather gets warmer again. Sorry.

When visiting Southwold harbour and in need of refreshment then consider the Harbour Cafe in the Southwold harbour estuary, which caters for locals and visitors alike, with the same friendly greeting to all. It is quite small providing good food for the locals and the local fisher fleet most of the time but welcomes the visitors. When busy it can take a few minutes to be served, but be patient, the wait for the locally sourced fresh food is well worth the wait, and I can thoroughly recommend the fish dishes, you can beat fresh fish. They serve a range of food and excellent coffee sampled purely for research. I am not sure they would be considered disabled friendly as the entrance is up some steps, which I would guess is to stop being flooded in extreme weather. But whilst there staff came out and served food to people outside so I am sure it would be no issue providing someone can go into the cafe and order. I didn’t use the toilets so can’t comment on their provision or not.

Stopped here for a breakfast on the way home from a holiday in Walberswick. We both had the vegetarian breakfast and the staff were happy to swap a couple of items around for me which was appreciated. Firstly it is a very pleasant place to be and had a good "vibe". Good touches were fresh orange juice and homemade elderflower cordial; unusual and welcome in a small cafe. The breakfast itself was disappointing though. Portions were small and one slice of supermarket bread was not really good enough. Opinions will vary on what a good vege. sausage should be but these coated bits of vegetable weren't very good. Quorn or Linda McCartney sausages would have been so much nicer.

Turned up to take the dog a walk and decided to stop for food. Cafe had a good review despite not being as busy as the other venues which were dog friendly. Coped with one of our guests being celiac and a nice meal overlooking the river.

We stopped for lunch in the wind and rain of a busy bank holiday weekend. Table for 5 no problem, menu was varied with specials board offering a half dozen extra choices. Food came quickly and was hot, tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. Dogs and children welcome, toilets clean and well maintained. Staff all friendly and helpful. I struggle to find anything negative to say. Thank you.

My son and I plus two dogs visited last week for lunch. Very friendly staff and tasty food. Simple, rustic decor ideal for the surrounding area.

had it recommended, so visited when they opened on a saturday morning, people queuing for 8 am opening, good sign, very swift service, pleasant, well informed staff, we both ordered a full English, reasonably prices for Southwold, never had better tasting bacon or sausages, was very much let down though by stone cold cold plates and luke warm baked beans though, overall very, very good

We used to be a regular here, but our focus has been in a different direction the last couple of years. Today though, we got up early for a bike ride with the promise of breakfast at our old haunt.

As the title says, this is a "nice little place" in keeping with the surrounding environment. Interesting environment with loads to look at and read, including hand painted pictures presumably created by local artists. Service is really good, friendly and very relaxed. As for the food it was really nice, quiche large enough for two, complimented with a nice salad and a glass of elder flower cordial. Price good to, around £17 (this is Southwold after all!) Will certainly come back on return to the area from South Wales.

We called in for coffee and the latte was excellent. We shared a scone which was delicious. People were eating breakfast which looked very good. Nice table with a view of the harbour. Outside seating too. Not open in the evening.

Perfect little cafe for a quick pit stop! Chips were awesome as were the size of the fruit scones. Lovely spot to sit in or out and watch the world go by.

Visited this lovely little cafe having flown our kite on the near by beach. Got there around 1.30pm to find there was only one slice of quiche left. We were lucky to get the last slice of the homemade roasted tomato and asparagus quiche my husband loved it. I do not normally eat quiche but having had a taste of this quiche I could be converted that said I had the smoked haddock fishcakes. They were the best fishcakes I had eaten in a long time. Both meals came with salad.

We read the trip advisor reviews and thank goodness we did. What a lovely lunch, one veggie special and two meals off of the same menu. Friendly service and great decor, highly recommended.

I was really shocked by the rudeness of the person who served me today. I needed an itemised receipt because I can claim back through the company I work for.Unfortunately an itemised receipt is not available so I asked the lady to write the 2 milkshakes and 2 cakes and the price on the back of the receipt. She snatched the card receipt out of my hand, clearly annoyed at my request and scribbled my order on the back with no price details.

What a smashing little place. Very fresh pastries cakes and snacks with a little bit of different in all of them. Freshly baked by Jake’s mum and God love them all, this place offers over and above what the others have in Southwold. It is quirky, wholesome and if I lived locally, I would say addictive.
