We visited but were disappointed by the decor in what was once a bright and airy bar area, it had been painted black & purple and was very uninviting, and they were only serving snacks, apparently they had staff problems, the last couple of times we have passed it has been closed and we are told it is now only a B&B - so best check in advance if intending to visit

Booked through booking.com and should have reviewed it first. When we first arrived the property seemed lacking in a bit of attention. The lady who booked us in took us to an outside room as the pub was closed Monday to Friday from October till March which we wasn’t aware of or informed prior to booking. The room was a bit on the small side and very cold (staff should have at least turned the heating on prior to our arrival). Had to travel out to get an evening meal even though we were expecting the pub to be open. Continental breakfast was delivered at 8:30 am and left outside in a small lobby area outside the room. The only problem with having this in our room was the lack of a table and chairs (not good). The second day this was left outside in the open air and didn’t even get a knock on the window to say it was there so cold toast and danish pastry (not good). The heating in the room was via a radiator which was either all or nothing and the water pipes were very noisy, which didn’t help through the night and as so, not a great nights sleep. We eventually left after only 2 nights instead of 4. The plus side was that the owners refunded us for the 2 nights that we didn’t stop, which they wasn’t obliged to do. From now on I will always review somewhere before booking.

We visited The Tormaukin tonight and had a lovely family meal. It was a relaxed space and the waiting staff were attentive. We were made to feel at home and having a baby in our party, this is very important. The food was absolutely delicious, it was faultless. We had 3 courses each and everyone really enjoyed their starters, mains and deserts. The fish with triple cooked chips were a delight - the batter was so light and crispy! The deserts were special, cookie dough pots, posset and sticky toffee pudding were just delicious. Thank you to the staff at The Tormaukin for making our night special. Great work

I booked for four people and a dog for a Sunday evening. The Garden Room and Snug are both dog friendly. We were in the Garden Room. We were welcomed, seated and served by the same very pleasant lady. My husband and friend had the Haggis Bon-Bons to start which they said were delicious. All four of us elected for the Sunday roast beef which without doubt was freshly cooked and had not been left standing since lunch time. The beef was tender and plentiful. The homemade gravy superb (we asked for extra which was not a problem). My friend and I both had desserts - apple tart and ice cream and Yorkshire Pudding profiteroles; we were not disappointed. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

During what are best described as strange times we were served up a brilliant Sunday roast by the family team @ The Tormaukin. Current circumstances necessitated disposable plates etc; however, this didn’t affect the experience, as the elements were cooked to perfection (awesome carrots & cauliflower cheese).
