The Top House in Blaenau Gwent

We were a large party of 16 which is not always easy to cater for. All our meals arrived together hot. freshly cooked and to to a high standard, Homemade chips with all the steaks, Which were cooked to perfection weather it was medium rare medium or well done. The Parmesan chicken was really tasty. My daughter also said her fish was good. We also had 2 children join us and they both had tasty meals . The spaghetti bolognaise came with garlic bread a little more choice than just sausage or chicken nuggets they are also on the menu but it’s lovely to see a bit more selection for the children . The service as always was well organised friendly and relaxed . Thank you to all for a great evening we will be back to dine with you again.

Best Sunday lunch about. We as a family have been everywhere. This is by far the best Sunday lunch we’ve had. We had the trio of meat with cauliflower cheese and red cabbage and it was a sensation. Highly recommend this little place.

My wife and I have just returned home from a fabulous Sunday Lunch at the Top House. As usual, the meal was piping hot, delicious and plentiful. Service was very efficient and friendly. All in all, a consistently enjoyable experience.

My favourite local pub! We are lacking in our area when it comes to traditional pubs serving food and drinks so to have The Top House on our doorstep is a little gem. It always has a cosy welcoming vibe, the service from Ellie and staff is always friendly and professional. It still amazes me how chef JoJo managers to cook the most delicious meals in the smallest of kitchens she really is a wizard! The food is always full of flavour, hot and fresh, a good choice of drinks and desserts. I had a recent meal with friends who had not been before, we all had steaks and peppercorn sauce, they commented that they were the best steaks they had eaten. They couldn’t believe that they’d been paying so much to visit miller & carter when there was a better steak locally, the chips are also delicious and everything is all home made. It’s a unique little pub, definitely worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Have visited numerous times this year, the last visit being Mother’s Day. The food is great and the Sunday lunch is the best about. Well done team Top House. See you again soon.

Excellent food,service and atmosphere..can't fault it

Visited as a family for an early mother day lunch. A very poor experience. I have previously loved the top house in the past. I found the staff very rude excluding the girl with tattoos who was very pleasant. I do not recommend .

We have eaten here many times as a family and have previously left good reviews. However i feel we should review not just good experiences. So our visit yesterday was a shambles. First our drinks were wrong. Then we ordered 8 starters, 6 came and they said the other 2 were on their way. Well we'd all eaten our starters and had another drink before the remaing two came. When the dinners eventually arrived they were cold and the carrots were totally under cooked. To top it, the foul language coming from the kitchen was embarrassing. We had my 3 year old granddaughter with us and found it totally unacceptable. One sentence between staff was "for F##k sake the foods F###ing coming, tell them" relating to another table who were obviously complaining. Finally we were then charged for food we didn't have. Not sure if its changed hands since its reopened but not the same. The only member of staff who seemed to care was the waitress with the tattoo's.

Food took a very long time to come to the table even though we kept getting told it was being plated up, when the food eventually arrived I was disappointed, I had the burger and it was not at all the same burger that was described on the menu. My wife had the lamb and mash which she enjoyed very much As the food took so long we decided not to wait another hour for dessert, so we decided to take a dessert home with us, I had the cheese cake and she had the red velvet cake. Both desserts were okay. To top it all off the price of the food was very expensive, I don’t mind paying a little bit more for food if the food and service is top notch. As parents we don’t get to go out on date nights that often, so when we do we look forward to it. This time though we were very disappointed On the plus side a few weeks ago we had Sunday lunch here with no complaints.

The food was lovely, freshly cooked and piping hot, crispy batter on the cod, perfectly cooked salmon and well cooked non greasy gammon. The service was very good and friendly. As usual Ellie and the team were friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

Wonderful baby shower. Fantastic afternoon tea, in lovely surroundings. Excellent value for money, and staff were attentive and helpful. What a fabulous afternoon. Thank you Top House. We will be back.

Foods always delicious, good selection on the menu. Steaks cooked to perfection reasonably priced. Highly recommend the Sunday lunch. Friendly service the Top house always looks fresh and it’s a pleasure to dine here. My husband had the sea bass and said it was really tasty. Looking forward to our next visit.

We are local to the Top House but not been there for a meal before. Now I usually find fault when we go out for food but I have to say I couldn’t fault the food and the ambiance of the pub. Well done all for giving us a great night out

Just come back from Sunday lunch at the Top House and have to say it was fabulous. Food was delicious particularly the gravy,stuffing and yorkshire pudding!! but had no complaints at all about anything on the plate. And OMG the Lemon Meringue was to die for !! Many thanks to the owner Ellie for accomodating us at short notice. Will definitely be back x👍

Incredible Chef The Best Sunday Roast Gorgeous Restaurant

Excellent Sunday lunch one of the best we've had, chicken and pork dinners, Lovely tasty and fresh. Lovely dessert- chocolate orange brownie, so nice. Wife had a floater coffee with tia Maria which came separate to put in as you like-perfect. Excellent friendly service and nice atmosphere, busy with a little bit of background music, perfect. Nice little walk afterwards and return to the pub for a finish off drink outside. Highly recommended.

Me, my partner and parents went to the Top house for a Sunday Roast. We all had garlic creamy mushrooms for our starter and it was absolutely delicious! The starter was so filling that we would have been satisfied with the starter alone. For our mains, we had the Beef roast, again, a gorgeous meal! The meal was such a generous portion that we actually struggled to finish. The meal came with a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding, some mixed veg and plenty of gravy. The staff were super attentive, coming around regularly to make sure everything was okay with our meals. They were warm and helpful and really made us feel comfortable. I would highly recommend to family and friends to try out this venue.

Fantastic food, staff are lovely and friendly I'm always promoting this place however it's closing in August as the chef is leaving. Any good chef that needs a job contact them as at the moment she cannot fill the post. This will be a massive loss to the area, we go there at least once a month.

Absolutely beautiful Sunday lunch

Had Sunday lunch there, full 3 courses, and it was absolutely fantastic , compliments to the chef! Lovely garlic mushrooms to start.The beef was superbly cooked and well presented with generous portions of everything, the cauliflower cheese was sublime and the thyme coated roast potatoes were excellent. Finished with sticky toffee pudding and, my word, what a sauce! The staff were friendly and the service was wonderful, excellent job guys. Be nice if you added a nice Marlborough district sauvignon blanc to the wine menu ;). We'll be back. Top marks! Returned a few times since and things have gone down hill drastically, portions have halved, one booking we made at the pub whilst there had failed to be recorded by staff and was refused a table when we turned up with our party of six. Pretty shambolic with service standards markedly dropped, revised rating from 5 to 3 stars.

We called on Sunday after a walk to the local Chartist Cave with our walking group. As always we were given a warm welcome even though we just had drinks during a busy food service period. A lovely pub with a warm welcome. We all wished we had booked lunch as it looked and smelt wonderful.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Very reasonably priced.Can't wait to return.

Went there for my sisters 25th anniversary. Its in a nice remote location the smell of the food as you open the door is spectacular and the service from the staff was amazing. They was patient with us as we had pre booked our meals but some of us changed our mind on the night for our food. The food came out piping hot tasty a d plenty of it, the food was that nice I even helped out some of the others finish theirs. I would like to thank the staff for helping us make it a wonderful night and I definitely recommend to anyone

Came here with partner, sat outside due to the weather bring lovely. Considering it was a Saturday the food was cooked fairly quickly. I went for the red pepper and cauliflower curry and my partner went for the parmesan chicken. Both was absolutely delicious and would definitely come here again. Highly recommended

My sister booked us Sunday Lunch as we were visiting from the North East, one of the best meals we've ever had, absolutely superb. Pate for starters followed by delicious Belly Pork roast dinner, finishing off with cheesecake for dessert... Wonderful pub, with friendly, professional staff... Sunday Lunch was the best as always fabulous food fabulous service and great atmosphere.

Hands down the best Sunday lunch I have ever eaten. The staff couldn't do enough for you. If you haven't been here, you need to go.

Well what can I say food excellent friendly staff but most of all trusting, when time to pay my bill of all times my card would not work my wife had left hers in the house and not enough cash on us, so what did they say its ok come back tomorrow and pay us how trusting is that luckily we did not live far about 3 miles and we drove home and got some money and went back and payed, so Top House again Thank You so very much.

Lunch on New Year’s Day was my second visit to the Top House and once again it was a fantastic experience, the food was absolutely brilliant and the team both welcoming and attentive, having such a great place to eat so close to home is wonderful, I can’t wait to return!

Nice environment, room was a bit cold but food was great. Service was a bit slow, booked for 7.30 and orders taken after 8. Good friendly service and enjoyed the wine.

After a fourth visit, we were not disappointed. Service is always great and pleasant. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is always amazing and the presentation is professional.

Food is not fancy, with a straightforward pub menu of steak/scampi/lasagne etc, but it is well cooked and very good value.

We had a starter and roast and the portions are big. The meal was lovely and Yorkshire pudding massive. Will definitely be back and staff are lovely also
