The Tipsy Vegan in Norwich

We have been visiting this place for years. Unfortunately it has deteriorated to a level what is not acceptable. The menu changes almost on a weekly basis. There use to be many delicious options before. Not long ago a couple walked out in disappointment over their favourite not being served anymore. I hope something will change for the better so we can return…..

Fabulous food and ambience at this cosy resturant. Had the best noodle dish ever and the staff were exceptionally friendly. I am not a vegan but this was better than any meat dish

We waited too long for our food, probably 25 minutes and the restaurant wasn't that busy either. When it arrived, my daughter's peppercorn sauce looked like a transparent gravy and didn't taste peppery either. Staff were very apologetic but the service and food wasn't up to standard.

I love the atmosphere here, the 20s American music and decor is really nice. The food and drink is really good and the service is excellent. I had the merlot and szechuan tofu and rice noodles.

Really lovely vegan restaurant, the atmosphere was delightful and the servers were friendly and kind. A special shout out to Fox who was so bubbly and welcoming, really helped make us feel at home! Single-handedly changed this from a 4 to a 5 star spot! The food was very good - I've never seen a better selection of vegan food at a restaurant. The drinks and cocktails were lovely too - I'd especially recommend the Dirty Cow, a "Bailey's" alternative which was so delicious. My only complaint would be that the quesadillas were kinda mid, not drenched in sauce and didn't have the depth of flavour that the other dishes had. Apart from that, the rest of the meal was spectacular and yummy, albeit *slightly* on the pricey side (although we did order a lot of drink)!

From the beginning we were made to feel slightly unwelcome because we didn't have a booking, so were relegated to a rather draughty table by the door despite the place being more than half empty - and it never got any busier. The food was bland, basic, lacking in quantity, expensive and not worth the money. £12,50 for a sharing platter which had three small, very ordinary dips and a few bits of pitta, and the other dishes we chose were no better either in taste or quantity. Not a place we will revisit.

Food was delicious, drinks were very nice, service was friendly and efficient, atmosphere is good. Total bill was pricey, but no complaints otherwise so I can deal with that. I look forward to my next visit - specifically for the bao buns, and a Dirty Cow (like Baileys, but better!!).

Totally misleading. Food looks nothing like it does on their website. Basic and not worth the money. Service was good but restaurant was pretty empty despite them saying on instagram they only had a couple of tables left that evening.

Had an 8pm booking. Waiter was very friendly and cheerful. Food was fine. Main issue was firstly our main being interrupted by another waiter asking if we were having desserts (so that the kitchen could close) and then as we sat finishing our drinks the manager(?) came and did a loud stocktake at the bar. Surely wait for your last customers to leave before you start closing!

Gutted to write this review. Everything about the experience has changed and it is worse for it. Eclectic original playlist, gone. Imaginative divine cocktails replaced by sugary sweet wetherspoon rip offs. It used to be the highlight of our month coming here and ordering a table full of tapas dishes that were out of this world, now the menu has shrunk so much it wouldn't fill a plate, let alone the table. The prices have increased to ridiculous levels - £19.50 for bought in pieces of fake meat and bought in chips? You should be embarrassed. Waitress stank of smoke and none of the staff looked particularly interested to be there. Pretty long waits for food considering how average it was and how deathly quiet the restaurant was. Service charge added to a table of 2? First time I've seen this at this restaurant in all the years I've been coming. New owners - whatever you are doing, please stop. It's god awful.

Great as always - really enjoyed the variety of menu options (prefer good wholesome vegan dishes as opposed to mock meat). Service remains consistently good and it was just great to not have to worry about the menu and ingredients. Thank you! I’m sure all regular supporters of this restaurant have seen the hacked Facebook page? Either that or a disgruntled previous owner? Someone has the password to the account and the anti vegan brigade are clearly enjoying it (trolls). My message would be don’t believe the hype. Don’t let them win. We need to use this restaurant to keep it. I know from my own business that Facebook is uncontactable and unaccountable in these scenarios. I’m sure the owners are trying their hardest to take down the banner photo from the FB site. The negative reviews never share pictures do they? Funny that? Some live miles away to the extent that you have to question if they’ve even been?

I was attracted by the name, and it fully lived up to expectations. The beetroot borani(?) was just amazing with sourdough bread; quesadillas were spicy and delicious; the chili dogs were tasty. The beers were unusual and .enjoyable. The guy running the place was very friendly and helpful. A great experience. Highly recommended.

I've used this restaurant for years and have always found it lovely. I went yesterday for a meal out to celebrate my mums bday who has just died so it was a big occasion. First of all the waiter accidently dropped the drinks tray at the table amd covered the floor in glass and soaked my sons top, which we were really lovely about amd I felt so sorry for him as it was a total accident. But I did expect a free dish or at least a bit of a discount which we didn't get which wouldn't have been his fault but the person higher up than him should have made sure we did. I then asked a lady who worked there about a certain dish when picking my meal and she was complelty rude, she said something very quietly to me which I couldn't make any sense of it and she gave me a very stern look amd walked away. The food wasn't up to its usual standard either with the chips being burnt and hard. I also asked for diet coke twice and ended up with full sugar. We got the bill and it was £178 for 6 people . We only had one main meal each and a bottle of wine and 3 other drinks so the prices have gone way up dramatically They had also taken a service charge which I dont like as it should be left up to us if we leave a tip and especially after all the muddles we didn't even get a discount either. May be its been taken over by new people? Anyway came away feeling terribly disappointed and won't be going back again Also the glass was never cleaned up properly and we found ourselves sat there with shards all over the floor so had again for it to be cleaned.

Oh dear!!!! What a shame!! I am flabbergasted at the decline in the Tipsy Vegan under the new ownership - in fact, I feel sad that all of the the original owners time and effort into making it the place what it WAS has now been destroyed! The menu is overpriced and uninspiring. There is very little choice and the dish we chose - a stir fry (priced £16.50) was small and slimy. On top of this, the service is not as welcoming and there is now a 10% service charge added to the bill! We will not be returning!

Love this place. If there are three or four of you, just get one of EVERYTHING on the small plate menu. Fantastic food, reasonably priced and great service in cosy pub-style cubicles.

Our second visit, my friend and I were attending the SynthEast (nerd-fest) exhibition and gigs at the Arts Centre across the road. What can I say? The food was excellent; we had the North African sharing board to start which comprised pitta bread slices, two delicious dips (one spicy and one creamy) and some rice salad. We both couldn't resist having the the burger-inna-bun with chips for our main and that was faultless. The service, courtesy of our 'ray of sunshine' waitress, was just great and she had us chuckling and smiling all evening. Not sure of her name but she deserves a 'shout out' so will just describe her as "The willowy one" (best I can do!) We also had great beer, best canned brew I've had in a long time... Widcraft was it? We left well full up and very happy; the price was I thought very reasonable (given the high quality of the whole experience and that we left there honestly 'stuffed') at 77 quid all up (including the 4 beers).

Great vegan food, albeit on the pricy side.

It is in a good location, staff were very friendly and great knowledge of their products and menu. The food was nice, The decor is lovely however it is very dark. However, the menu is very limited.

Food was great but very pricey and hardly any variety or options, but what has made me give a 1 star review is the fact we got a 10% service charge! I've never been somewhere that gives a service charge and the fact we weren't told and it was automatically taken off and we were expected to pay it is terrible!

This was our first visit as we were given a voucher. The service was friendly and very efficient. However we were disappointed with the food and found it expensive for such small plates of food. Could do with more choice and a proper main meal.

No issue with service or atmosphere - actually both very good. However, the food came to £20 per head for two dishes that were nice but so small as to amount to no more than two mouthfulls, and two other dishes that were a smaller version of what I can make better at home but for nearly £10 per item. Chicken bao buns were the best but still very small. Arancine was good but only two arancine for around £10 is daylight robbery. The borscht was completely unseasoned and the black bean quasedilla tasted like the filling was poured straight out of a can. Overall, definitely potential to make good food, but actually a pretty poor range of vegan food for a vegan restaurant with atrocious portion sizes at ridiculous prices. Compared to how good it was last time I went a couple of years ago, place seems to have really fallen off.

I visited recently for the first time under the new management. It was really disappointing. My previous visit, a year ago, had been the best meal I'd ever experienced - the food was divine and the menu fantastic. Now there is hardly anything to choose from and all the little tapas dishes are no more. There are a few small plates but they don't really complement each other like they used to. It's gone from being a go to place, to not even being as enjoyable as some of the more generic places in the city. What is available on the menu is not great, and certainly nothing to write home about. I won't go again unless it changes.

This spot has been a favourite of mine and my fiancé's since the beginning of our relationship, and it's so disappointing to see what the new owners have done. Norwich has a lot of lovely lunch spots for vegans but Tipsy vegan was the only major dinner spot with a drinks and food menu that felt like genuine love had been put into and very welcoming service every time we visited. However this visit is a steep decline. The menu has been stripped back significantly removing some of their best dishes. Most notably their sharing starter board, which used contain a veiriety of items you couldn't get anywhere else, has been stripped back to a hummus, a cheese sauce and some couscous, and yet the board (and most of the menu) has gone up In price? The story is much the same for their small plate and large plate mains, sludgy soup, bland aranchini and all 4 plates having the same sour cream as their dipping sauce was over all just disappointing compared to what this place used to be. Staff were trying their best but seemed like they had received little training, this is not a reflection on them but a lack of effort from the owners. Really sad to see the state its in and we won't be returning unless we hear of a level of improvement

Absolutely appalling!!! The standard has gone down and hit rock bottom. Previously thoughtfully designed menu is now, I do not even know how to describe it... Tasteless, if not tasteless then extremely salty, stodgy, small portions, terrible presentation... New Ownership = New Poor standards. All...

Service was spectacular, food was great - limited menu due to the festivities but the burger was a solid choice and just the right amount of food . Sticky toffee pudding was decadent.

As a long time customer of Tipsy Vegan I was nervous to hear it changed hands. Not the Christmas menu or experience me and my husband look forward to. Definitely not the level of food I have come to expect, food quality pretty shocking and same as just a normal pub vegan options and not worth the price hike. Rang to say I was late, very confusing conversation with someone, who didn't even ask who I was and a child screaming in background. Then when we got there they said they were just about to ring me to ask me where I was. Apparently my phone call had gone to Greece with the owner and the message not passed over. Bizarre and irritated me. Actual staff in building lovely so quite awkward. Food boring, where as before they really made the extra effort. Lots of places to good vegan options but when you are at a vegan restaurant you expect something special. Our straws were cut in half and menu looked cheap. My drinks were nice. Sad as was my favourite.

Had a fantastic time here, and I'm not even vegan! Went here for my anniversary with my long-vegan girlfriend, and we had a wonderful time. Our server Josh provided excellent service, and helped us decide on what we should go for. Highly recommend to anyone, vegan or not

0 stars.Was booking for a big party of us for a special day. So had pre ordered about 3 days before. All seemed fine we arrived and the waiter was very friendly and they had our order on a piece of paper written out. Then we waited, and waited and waited. It wasn't until one of the party went to go and ask what was going on due to hunger that we found out there was a massive delay. Eventually food came out (2hours after booking) and they had said wont be paying for anything. So we skipped dessert as we wanted to leave by this point and thought atleast we got it for free. Then we all got home the next day and myself included was severely sick. I am also pregnant and made this very clear to the waiter to check my food was thouroughly cooked! Which clearly didn't happen. After gathering each others thoughts on it we think was the burger and sausage pie ( so meat alternatives ) that have caused this food poisoning. We are all so angry and annoyed that this has ruinind our weekends and definitely shall never be returning! Avoid at all cost.

I was impressed by the exceptional service at The Tipsy Vegan. The staff is attentive without being intrusive, and they genuinely care about making your visit enjoyable.

We came on Saturday night as a party of 21 and had left a deposit and pre ordered way in advance.... We arrived at 8pm and the waiter was lovely as was all the front of house staff so credit to them for the absolute debacle that was about to unfold. By 21:30 we had not received any food, apart from complimentary olives to keep the starvation at bay. One of party mentioned to the staff how unacceptable this was and we then waited another 20 minutes for food to start to arrive. This came out in dribs and drabs, i had eaten my side before my starter came 10 minutes later... it took over 45 minutes to receive all the food and even then we had to say don't bother with the puddings as it was getting on for 22:30...bear in mind the restaurant is meant to shut at 22:00! The restaurant said they had been in touch with the owners and weren't expecting us to pay anything which was good of them to say although they already had over £200 deposit from us. To make things worse over half of the party have since been very ill with d and v which can only be contributed to the undercooked pastry, arrancini and god knows what else. I am unsure what's happening at Tipsy Vegan as many have previously had good experiences. But nevertheless, absolutely AVOID if you value your time, money, health and SANITY.

Unfortunately it was a disaster, 2 out of 4 had finished their food before the other 2 had any sign of their meals. Drinks were slow to arrive. Sadly lack of management to make us feel better about the glaring errors of amateurs. We had to leave early to get the car before a ticket. 1.5 hours is just too long to wait for single course. Tipsy is always our go-to on a Friday night when we treat ourselves to a meal out. It’s hands-down the best exclusively vegan restaurant in Norwich and as a vegan couple, it never lets us down on its delicious variety of dishes, fantastic and accommodating customer service from the lovely staff and a super cool vibe and atmosphere to just enjoy great food and company. Their alcohol-free cocktails are so good too and I never feel like I’m missing out! Shout outs to the arancini, sharing board platter and the burrito dish - they are definitely must-haves :)

Been here a couple of times. First on Sat 29th April and the food and customer service were excellent. Visited here again with two friends at 7pm on Monday 21st August and was very disappointed. They weren't busy but took 25mins to bring 3 lemonade based drinks to our table. My food arrived at 8:10pm with my friends meals both arriving around 8:30pm, with no apology for the delay. I had to approach a waitress for further drinks and again when we were interested in ordering a dessert. At no point were we asked if everything was okay with our meal. We appeared to be an inconvenience as they turned the lights off in the main part of the restaurant at 9pm. The only time we were finally approached is when they wanted us to leave and the bill was swiftly offered. It's disappointing that the customer service has gone so drastically downhill from our our initial visit in April, when they were fully booked on a Saturday evening.

Really impressive vegan spot in Norwich. I wanted everything on the menu! The hot cheese dish with pita to dip was GLORIOUS. The Arancini were a joy. I had the steak as a main and found the accompanying potatoes disappointing (hard, dry and bland) but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as everything else was so good. Really liked their exciting selection of non alcoholic cocktails and enjoyed the one I chose. Hope to be able to return and try their other options sometime!

Another fantastic dinner. We had lots of small plates, a sharing board & one of us had the hot burger. All were so good. So many interesting things, including Szechuan cauliflower, arancini, mushroom carpaccio, tostadas, quesadillas, lentil pancake, bao bun. Lots of fab desserts too....

A lovely place with friendly staff. I’m not a vegan, went with two friends who are and loved all the food. We ordered small plates to share: tostadas, lentil pancakes, Arancini, bao buns and quesadilla. Arancinis were a bit on the heavy side but other than that everything was super tasty. We had lemonades to drink: strawberry and basil and blackberry and mint. Both delicious and so rich that we kept adding water to them and they lasted till the end of the meal. We finished off with a strawberry tart, which my friends liked and I wasn’t too impressed but this might be because I’m not even a vegetarian. Anyway, this place is not very cheap but definitely worth visiting.

Being non-vegan we generally shy away from vegan substitutes, although we are happy to eat vegan dishes but this was our first outing to an entirely vegan restaurant . I can honestly say this is one of the best meals out we have had for some time. We opted for the 2 courses for £15 option consisting of a small plate and a large plate served between 12 and 5.45 which was terrific value. (They also offer a 3 course option for £20 to include dessert.) The food was amazing....full of flavour and nicely preseted. My daughter and I both had the Arancini which were excellent, my husband the Lentil pancake and daughter's partner the Bao .For the large plate I had the burrito but opted for the quesadilla substitute, my husband and daughter the House Burger and daughter's partner the Argentinian Filet (with which he was very impressed). I cannot praise the food highly enough and wouldn't hesitate to eat here again even without our vegan company. We all left feeling extremely satisfied.

Food was good, great to have a 100% vegan offering but the service was not up to the same level as the prices. We were left sitting for over 20 minutes without any checkup by staff, we'd have spent another £25 on coffees and deserts but we just got tired and left.

Visited on a Sunday evening (1 vegan + 3 T-Rex), we had booked in advance but there was actually plenty of tables available for walk ins. We decided to have a couple of the sharing platters for starters followed by one of each of the small plates. Everyone agreed that the sharing platters were excellent, particularly the seitan based 'chorizo' and the mushroom carpaccio. One of these plus a nice glass of chilled fizz would make a lovely light summer lunch. Of the small plates the higlights were probably the Tostadas, Ancho Quesadilla and Szechuan Cauliflower. Even as a non vegan I would probably go back again.

Only critique was that we were some of the only diners which dimmed the atmosphere a little bit but that's a sign of the times! Would definitely recommend for very good vegan food.

We came during their 50% deal before they changed to their new menu. Gotta love a place that has great choice for us vegans but would also be very enjoyable for simply anyone who enjoys great quality food. Me and the girlfriend visit most times...
