The Tipputs Inn in Stroud - Phone Number, Reservations, Reviews

It is a drinking establishment now. They sell "cheap beer and bar snacks" as I was told today. Can't rate as didn't drink here. I was looking for a nice place for lunch. (Came onto google remove my previous review for the old Tipputs Inn which was for great food and family friendly pub- this would not be the case for this new Tipputs Inn.)

Do not book - closed down but still allowing online booking. I have booked to stay in one of the upstairs rooms for this weekend but no payment taken so I tried phoning and emailing but no response. Several Google, Facebook and Tripadvisor reviews over the past few weeks to say it has closed down with post piling up at the front door.

CLOSED DOWN You are still able to book and we received a confirmation email. Very disappointed as no indication it was closed.

We had booked for a meal the night before and got there to find the place closed. Never had an apology or anything. Rubbish service!

DO NOT BOOK - CLOSED DOWN - We came for a wedding and booked a holiday apartment here for 18th May. I had a query beforehand but couldn't get through to the Tipputs Inn at all - no answer on email and their voicemail filled up. When we arrived we realised it must have closed down - nobody there, post piling up inside the door. There is no evidence online that they have closed down and our booking wasn't cancelled. It looks like it's still possible to book online - don't!

Good beer, nice crab sandwich for lunch. 6/7/22 Still the same high standard. Highly recommended. 16/2/23 Nothing changed - interesting menu, well cooked and very pleasantly served. 17/04/2024 Changed hands. Unsurprisingly empty. Very poor, short menu, poorly cooked. Not even cheap - £30 for a house sauvignon blanc. It won't last long.

Great food friendly service, quiet and very relaxing on a Saturday afternoon. Just popped in for a quick pub lunch.

Had an excellent family meal on Easter Monday. Food and drink were top notch and the service by Oliver was friendly and welcoming. Would certainly recommend a visit to anyone and we will call again when we are next visiting the area.

This used to be a great pub with good food and service, how it's changed..we went here for boxing day and stood at the bar for 15 minutes and there were no bar staff at all it was a joke we only wanted coffee, we left without being served sadly we won't be back again...nice to see good friends tho outside on the bikes...

Went with family for Sunday lunch and sadly wasn't impressed. All 6 meals were just warm, definitely not reaching holding temperature so sent back, where clearly they were just put in a microwave to heat up. Roast potatoes were dry and more like frozen roasties. Veg was ok, just not a lot of it.

We walked over from Tetbury to meet a friend arriving at 4:20 PM wanting tree pints. £18 later and a complaint that Weights & Measures demand full glasses, we were told that we were very lucky to be served at all, despite other custmers still eating. Hunters Hall round the corner gets customer service should you get unlucky with everyone wanting to home early again

Great local pub with a nice atmosphere and decor. Friendly and helpful staff. Good menu and very tasty food.

We had a great dinner at The Tipputs Inn. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and the interior very tasteful. Not the 18xx pub experience, which we liked a lot this time.

Poor, took weeks to get half a refund and far from luxury.

Pre booked. glad we did it gets busy. Went on a Saturday early evening, staff were very welcoming and chatty, varied menu as we were a group of 3 with various allergies, so managed to find food that suited us all. One of our group is a type 1 diabetic and when we explained that diet pepsi/diet coke from the "pump" could have sugar in it from a previous dispensed drink, we asked if half a glass could be dispensed and thrown away, (we would pay for it or give it anyone else would like it), before the 1 pint of diet pepsi/diet coke for us was poured. The staff listened to our reasons and were very understanding. Food came piping hot and with a bit of banter which is always good. Had to decline desserts as we were full up!

Great meal and service with the added bonus of the Vintage motorcycle club

Beautiful food served by very friendly staff. We visited on a Sunday (party of 6). Two had fish and chips, one had a vegetarian curry, two had the roast pork and I had the roast chicken. Large portion sizes, beautifully seasoned, plenty of meat and vegetables and gorgeous Yorkshire puddings.

Lovely place with great food. Was there on Burger night and tried the chicken burger, and the amount of chicken on the burger was great!

Went for a meal with my partner. We were warmly greeted and given a choice of tables. We ordered some drinks which came promptly with menus. The food choices were good, with good vegan, vegetarian and GF options, all clearly shown on the menu. A lot of the produce was local. Our starters arrived quickly. The scotch eggs were delicious and the Soup was lovely with a variety of chunky bread. The main course, again arrived quickly. Was beautifully presented, hot and tasty. We ordered desserts. The pannacotta tart with blood orange sorbet was gorgeous and very refreshing. A lovely evening out

We arrived at The Tippets Inn to a very warm welcome. My son was wearing his Elsa dress and the waitress was lovely to him - very complimentary. We had booked last minute for Sunday lunch and expected to be squeezed in but we were given a time that suited us and treated so well. The service was outstanding and food was exceptional. It was a treat for us to go out as a family and the staff here made it really special.

I have been to the Tipputs on multiple occasions for food and drinks, both of which have been fantastic, brilliant wide range of draught beers and cider! Wonderful variety on the food menu and quality is great! Highly recommended burger night on a Wednesday! The bar staff provide amazing service, always extremely happy, helpful and create a tremendous atmosphere. 10/10 recommend!

The evening started off quite well with mixed breads to share, but that’s where it ended. We had the Brixham haddock and chips, unfortunately like so many pubs the food had clearly been kept warm too long and everything had started to dry out. The waitress asked if everything was ok when I went to pay and I said that we were disappointed because the food was dry, she said she would talk to the chef whose only comment was that “the food was cooked to order” I paid and we left, but we won’t be going back.

We stopped here by chance on our way back to our campsite after a day trip. Honestly really impressed both by the service and the food. All four of us really enjoyed our meals and we all had something different. Sadly we don't live close by because I would definitely be back!!

Staying at the Excellent Calcot Manor, there is only so much 'Haute Cuisine' you can take. So, following a recommendation we headed just down the road to The Tipputs Inn for some upmarket 'pub grub'. Anywhere with plenty of 'locals' is always a good sign, from the welcoming atmosphere, helpful & attentive staff and a menu that caters for all tastes and dietary requirements. While on the subject of the menu, your reviewer does like one that has the right number of starters and mains! Your reviewer and Mrs R went for the 'Tapas', an inspired choice, but beware a healthy appetite is needed! Even more so if you add the "dirty" fries on the side Phew!! We could have rolled back to the hotel. A comprehensive dessert menu followed, but all we could manage was the very good local Ice cream. The Tipputs is off the beaten track, but definitely worth the detour. Being a Saturday night the pub was very busy, and bearing in mind they were a Chef down, they coped very well. Thanks folks! Highly Recommended.

Not been for years, we had a fabulous meal, lovely staff & great service. We would recommend.

Disappointing food. The pub itself looked lovely however the food was not good. Popped in for a Sunday lunch and was served roast beef which was more fat than anything else. It wasn't edible. On complaining I was offered a change but I'd finished the potatoes by then. I like veg and was given what looked liked a mixed bag of frozen veg smothered in butter or something. Not edible. The beef was swimming in watery gravy which made the whole meal soggy. For 18 pounds it is extremely overpriced. I was given a reduction from the bill but I wouldn't return.

Had Sunday lunch, the main courses were tasty but the dessert was not so good. We had sticky toffee pudding which was rather dry on the outside. The service we received was okay but none of the staff seemed terribly interested in the job.

Pitched the tend at the badminton camp site and headed to Tipputs for tea. Two class ales and fish n chips fir me. Hit the spot. The landlady had venison faggots n mash. She loved it. Lovely pub and friendly efficient staff.

We often pop to the Tipputs Inn as it’s just up the road from us. The food is excellent value. They have fantastic offers which is such a good idea, and definitely enticed us in. Today we had 2 courses for £14 My husband had the pate which was the best we have had, followed by a decent portion of scampi and chips, this was delicious and I had a butternut squash, lentil and almond parcel. All the food was of a very high standard. The staff are incredibly friendly and the service they provide is excellent.

I'm so pleased this pub has re-opened. The menu is very good, not too many things on it but all very well executed. The staff too are very capable and friendly. I especially like their "prix fixe" menu which is very good value and Fizz n Fish on a Friday. I ended up with a dessert as I couldn't resist when I saw the dishes going past. I took a large group and they were all very impressed with both the venue and the food

Exceptional food but at a premium price. Gluten free and other dietary requirements offered. Food seems cooked fresh to order so takes a while but worth the wait.

We visited on Wednesday 22nd March for Lunch as a party of three... On entry we were immediately greeted and made to feel very welcome by Lucie and shown to our table (Table 54 by the window and wood burner, with plenty of room for Mums Rollator / Walking aid). The atmosphere and welcome is incredible - you feel totally relaxed ... We ordered from both the a la carte and the prix fixe... To start we ordered the Soup of the day, The whitebait and The pate all of which were delicious.... After came the Whitby Scampi, The Seabream with Risotto Rice and the Fish and Chips ( Mum decided on the kids portion of the fish and chips which was ample ) all were very well presented and Tasted Fantastic..... No room for Dessert.... Please give our thanks to Lucie who was cheerful, friendly and attentive throughout our visit. On leaving we were once again touched by the thoughtfulness and kindness of the people sitting on the next table and the gentleman sat at the Bar for cheerfully moving chairs so that an easy exit for my mother and rollator was available... We have NO hesitation in recommending this lovely Inn, and we will definately return very soon

Great food, fabulous service, cosy fire, comfortable and welcoming.

I visited here for lunch with 17 friends. We mostly chose off the Prix Fixe Menu which is quite wide ranging and excellent value for money. The meals were of a good size and excellently cooked and well presented. The service was warm, friendly, cheerful and very professional. The pub is a modernised olde worlde pub and very spacious. If I had one observation it is that the bangers and mash could have benefited from having a green vegetable with it for colour as much as anything.

We have been visiting this area for over 5 years and up until last Friday 10.2.23 we had never been to this pub. We were a party of 3 and it NEVER occurred to me to book for lunch time on a Friday - we were greeted very nicely on arrival and were asked if we had booked a table, on saying no, we were told that we were lucky, as a table of 7 had just cancelled and other tables were reserved....WOW!!! Service, food, drink ALL excellent!! It has a lovely ambiance and was warm & cosy too!! My only regret is that we haven't been before - Well Done!!!

Met friends here for a lunch in the week and had a great time. Served by friendly staff and sat in comfortable surroundings.

Stopped off on way home from a weekend at Bath.We didn't book so were lucky to get in.because it was busy.We both had the mixed meat roast and it was the best roast dinner i have ever had.Plate was plentiful and super tasty.Staff were brilliant and it definitely is a must if you get chance.Many thanks to the manager for fitting us in.Well done to you all.

I hadn't eaten at the Tipputs Inn for some years and I guess I was wrong to expect the experience to be as good when we met with friends for a Sunday roast here a couple of weeks ago. The food was rather disappointing , only just warm enough on serving and quite cold by the last few mouthfuls. The chicken didn't taste freshly cooked, rather heated up and bit dry. The potatoes were a sad excuse for a roast potato. For dessert I ordered sticky toffee pudding which was warm on the outside and cold in the middle, not the usual mouth-blistering kind of hot most restaurants serve this dish. Sadly I will not return to the Tipputs Inn.

Visited for a bite to eat and was not disappointed. Food was lovely and fresh. Staff were really friendly and I will definitely be visiting again.

Accommodated my crazy family of 13 on a Sunday and we had a wonderful time. Staff are so attentive and the roasts were one of the best I've had out. Really generous portions and the best yorkie pud ever. We'll definitely be back!

16 of us booked for lunch on a busy day in the pub and restaurant. The service was excellent with all meals arriving hot at the same time. Good menu choice and atmosphere. Dog friendly.

Although extremely busy on Christmas Eve, the staff were so very helpful and friendly. The food was great and the cost very reasonable. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Thank you.

Fabulous food and service. Rather cold inside , they seated us by the door and apparently the heating wasn't working. However, it was fab.

We ordered the Sunday Veg roast and received an awful round burger swimming in gravy with a small saucer of shared veg, the manager was not very understanding, we will not go back despite it having been a favourite.

Not a good Sunday roast, the beef was very over cooked + dry and the roast potatoes were stale, really disappointing.

Have eaten in the owners other pub a few times and heard they now had the tipputs and great reports on Sunday lunch. Was not disappointed. Having been in a few years ago and ( to say the very least ). The pub was “ tired. “. It was bright and welcoming. With great friendly staff. Luckily I had booked as was busy. Apparently going from 43 people in the morning to over one hundred for the day. Lovely surroundings. And as a newly plant based eater was blown away by their vegan roast. Freshly created. And tasty. If only they could master a vegan Yorkshire pudding and add that to the plate then it would have been spot on. Definitely will be going back for more. Thank you

We had dinner here for 4 family members. All the food was excellent, as was the service. They also have some great local art on the walls for very reasonable prices. Definitely recommended and we will be going back.

Friendly, polite staff. Beautiful venue, really lovely decor. A nice relaxed atmosphere , it feels like you’re in your own front room with the fire going. The food though.. the chips were crunchy with oil, a bit over cooked and definitely over salted. The burger bun was on the stale side and the burger patty itself was lacking in flavour and dry. My husbands meal was also very salty but he very much still enjoyed it and the portion sizes are very generous and fairly priced.

Four of us went there today for a Sunday roast. As always, the welcome and service were good. This is most probably the lowest average age front of house staff that I have seen. They all should be rightly proud of themselves. An excellent advert...

Food was good and reasonably priced. Staff friendly and presentable and attentive but not overbearing. Only one moan lack of disabled toilet facilities. They could add grab rails in the gents / ladies just to help those with mobility problems. Went back to our on the 4th September 2022 food good standard, however over priced and more sized portions, roast potatoes were nit at all roasted and and veg as served in a small dish which I thought was oernperson but was for two. One small spoonful each. Very disappointed won't be going back again anytime soon

Had Sunday lunch yesterday, the service was faultless but the food was dreadful. Tough beef and weird tasting potatoes. Sent mine back and swoped to roast chicken which wasn't much better. They need to up their game in the kitchen. Very disappointing.

Visited on the off chance as we were in the area for a meeting. Stayed for a couple of beers but weather awful so decided to eat. Food was very good and bar staff very friendly. Will visit again if in the area.

Quiet atmosphere, simple decor, but exceptional service and great food win the day. Special note: Doorstep sandwiches are huge and great value.

Visited The Tipputs Inn last Sunday for a roast dinner and could not rate it highly enough! The food was incredible, both the pork and the beef! The two waitresses were really helpful, friendly & efficient and managed our big table of 14 well. Will definitely be back!
