It’s rare I have a roast dinner when I’m out for Sunday lunch. Too often they disappoint and I’m left wondering what makes my mums or wife’s so much better. No here though. I’ve been twice, and between us my wife and I have tried four different meats. All have been full of flavour, tender and generously portioned. Great spuds, massive yorkshires and rich, tasty gravy too. Proper comfort food, I’d challenge anyone to leave unsatiated. The pub itself is cosy and unpretentious and run very efficiently by a polite, friendly and welcoming team of staff. Having ticked off the beef, pork belly, chicken and venison we’ll be back soon to get the lamb and nut roast and collect the set!

I came down a couple weeks ago to have a catch up with some old friends and we had a lovely evening. I have walked past this inn a few times whilst shopping in Frome but this was my first time going in after hearing positive reviews and i wasn’t disappointed. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because once we were sat our waitress didn’t come and check on us for more drinks exc but it was quite busy so no stress!

It was one of the hottest days of this year so possibly not the fairest day to review it but here I go. Lunch for 5 over 60s prebooked. Offered a table in the garden - it was 33 degrees! Then as a favour they found us a table inside. They made a mess of our drinks order, wrong wine, local beer off, cider warm and no Water in the wine cooler, just a few ice cubes. I ordered roast grouse , an exciting prospect even at £36. It was so undercooked it was almost impossible to wrench the meat off it. What I did manage tasted ok. The bread sauce was nice but the idea of chicken liver parfait on toast with it was messy to look at and even messier to eat. My friends were much less extravagant with their choices and were largely happier with their food than I was. Their coffee machine was broken and the substitute cafetière coffee was undrinkable. When the l came I complained about the grouse which could have walked back to the kitchen! I was told that sometimes that happens! Charming - and no offer of recompense

We had a lovely meal here, the food is good quality. Staff are a bit unorganised and untrained, when I asked for a Rose wine, the waitress pointed to two, I asked what they were, she replied, 'She wasn't sure, but one was cheaper than the other'! When seated, we were immediately approached by a waitress for our food order, I said we weren't ready to order, and within a minute another approached us for our order! Apart from this ominous start, the evening progressed very well and the food was tasty. We ended up moving to the fireside with a drink and playing scrabble to end our evening.

Saturday night and a good meal rather than excellent. Standard fayre which was fine. Scampi good, could have been more - but then I am a big lad. Service excellent. Atmosphere good. We left when the band started as not quite our cup of rosie, but the start time did not detract.

As always, the food was very good here and the beer and wine is well selected. The manager is friendly and halpful. Nothing is too much trouble. good for winter visits if you have pre-dinner drinks by the open fire.

For many years this pub was in decline, the comfortable feeling of good wining and dining had simply disappeared. However, under new management a reversal of fortunes is taking place and friendly service, interesting menus and good tasty food, combined with an excellent position ( wonderful views from the garden) are having the right effect.

Great pub, nice staff and child friendly. My dad lives locally so it is a perfect place to pop into for pre dinner drinks or for a meal. Not that cheap but the food is very good. Would be great if they had a climbing frame or something in the garden so the kids can play and be distracted.

Have been to this pub on a number of occasions and it doesn't matter whether you eat in the bar, or in the restaurant at the back the food is always great. Most of their meat has been locally sourced and the dishes are freshly prepared and tasty

Lovely village setting, have mostly eaten here lunchtime, they usually do a 2 course special, which is excellent value for money. Lovely outdoor seating area, with views over to Longleat. Carparking, popular with the locals.

My friend and I visited this pub in November 2011. I had noticed they were offering lunches - 2 for £10. I had a very nice stilton and avocado salad and my friend had a starter - quiche. Both were very nice, i did however find the wrapper of the avocado stuck in the stilton cheese in a melted way. I pointed it out, and all they could do was apologise, they didnt offer to replace it. Oh well, what can i say? It was £10 for 2 meals. Very friendly people, lovely surroundings, the pub has been opened up inside, i remember visiting it when it was full of dark nooks and crannies, it may have been very personal, but the way it was set out back then, meant you couldnt get many tables and chairs in. The car park was full (free) and it seemed that advertising the price outside on a black board, was a good idea! Food is all home cooked and my friend exclaimed her quiche was delicious. As my salad was - if it hadn't had a wrapper inside the heated stilton cheese. Drinks as all pubs, the soft ones are the expensive ones, so £2 for a small coke off the tap.

Called in midweek with my husband and mother-in-law, haven't been there since the renovations and was very pleased with the new layout. I ahd the pie of the day (fish pie) which was very good with a lovely selection of veg. Both husband and mother-in-law had ham egg and chips which were also very good. We had a warm welcome and the staff were helpful and friendly. We will definitely go again.

Went for lunch yesterday 14th July after going for a pint and "eaton mess" desert on the previous Sunday (this was outstanding on 1st visit) ordered fish finger baguette and cheese and sweet pickle baguette, these came with. Chips and salad. The cheese was sweaty and soft and the fish finger on was soggy. The chips were the type with skins still on, yuk! Not too our taste. When the eaton mess came out it was very different from the one we had on the prev visit. No strawberries and contents hadn't been "messed" up. It's was also warm, the one on Sunday was lovely and cold, not a good sign with dairy products!!!!! Could have been diff chef maybe??? Staff are lovely and pleasant, pub is done to a good standand, views from garden are stunning, but 1st real go at basic food was not good! Will be going back for a beer, and may give food another go... But not impressed. Foods letting you down guys! Get it sorted!

Arrived expecting to find a pub and found it had changed hands two weeks earlier and reopened as an Indian restaurant - we were obviously among the very first customers! We were given a warm welcome, the food was absolutely excellent and the service attentive. I would highly recommend the Goan fish curry, mild and deliciously seasoned.

Amazing Sunday Roast. Well worth the visit. Camembert starter with Sourdough followed by Roast Beef, massive Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes, Brocolli and Carrots with a red wine gravy. I chose Pigs in Blankets and Cauliflower Cheese as additional sides. I cannot stress enough how good the roast dinner is. Others in my group chose Roast Lamb, others chose Mixed Roast dinner, every plate was spotless when finished. The serving staff are second to none. Efficient, friendly and very attentive. The setting is gorgeous and I would go back again and again. What was remarkable was that the staff had a full restaurant, full bar and we were a party of 12 who were seated in the Conservatory and we felt well looked after with every request dealt with a smile and genuine desire to help. Bravo!

We would highly recommend the Old Mill. We were warmly welcomed and had a table quickly prepared for us after another group left. We ate from the small plates for lunch course , and each one was really nice and beautifully presented. I particularly enjoyed the Maple Belly Pork and the rest of our group had the Salmon (equally well presented and enjoyed). The wait time was short and the service and staff excellent. We would definitely return and can highly recommend.
