The Three Crowns in Hackney

Came for lunch today and shared some starters - food was really good and perfectly cooked. Coming back next Friday for some more!

I popped in here for a Christmas drink with my daughter on 22nd December (after having dinner round the corner). From the get go the head bouncer (who was permanently seated at the bar) was hostile and aggressive. We had a drink at the bar and for reasons unknown to us he took against us and was verbally abusive and threatening. I asked for assistance from the bar staff, but they were obviously afraid of him, so I requested to see the Manager. He was helpful and apologetic (offering us free drinks as an apology), however as he spoke with us the bouncer continued to shout over his head at us - as our complaint had riled him further. The Manager and the bouncer continued to have a shouting match further down the bar as the situation was dealt with. As two women wanting no more than a quiet drink this situation was really unpleasant and upsetting - being verbally harrassed and threatened by a very large bouncer, whom the manager had little control over, was very frightening. I will not being going back and recommend everyone give this bar a miss.

Homophobic staff, £7.10 badly poured pints. Don’t kiss or show affection if you’re gay, it puts people off their food according to staff.

Det værste sted jeg nogensinde har oplevet. Med den største diskrimination. Vi er 3 venner som er i baren, hvorefter vi gerne vil ned i klubben/diskoteket i kælderen, men vi bliver afvist i døren uden begrundelse. Fair nok, vi sætter os i baren i stuen og køber en. Efter en halv øl kommer “dørmanden” hen og snakker med os, hvor vi spørger efter en grund til vores afvisning, hvortil der bliver sagt at vi bare ikke må komme ind. Men hvorfor? Hvis man bare kunne få et svar/begrundelse er det okay, men det kunne ingen svare på. Alt ialt den værste form for diskrimination jeg nogensinde har oplevet. At afvise folk ved døren uden begrundelse er jo sindssygt. Vil aldrig anbefale det her nedværdigende sted til nogen

I finally made time to visit. I have stopped by a few times for a drink, but I kept forgetting about the pub as a food venue. My mistake! I was genuinely surprised at the menu and the quality of the cooking. We wanted to try so many things that we ate 'tapas' style, choosing a number of starters to share, and one main course. Pork Belly Chips - tick. Chorizo Scotch Egg - perfect, and the Burrata with Romesco Sauce was delicious. I would note that the Barnsley Chop was a little overcooked and not very warm, but we possibly confused the Chef with our food choices. Anyway, it's a pub and the food, the service (Erin) and the ambience was great. If you live in Stoke Newington, don't make the same mistake as me. I recommend that you try it out.

We came here because we needed air-conditioning (it was the start of the hottest heatwave) and the venue is attractive, with big windows for natural lighting and warm, wood interiors with tufted bench seating. We had the Sunday Roast for 18.50GBP and it was great value for money. Service was indeed slow -- it took over a half hour to receive our orders and we were literally the only ones there but we were not in a hurry. If you want air-conditioning and have lots of time, this is a great place to eat! Vegan/vegetarian options available plus kids' menu too. And loads of alcoholic drinks on offer. Open daily, from 4 pm Mon-Wed, from noon Thur-Sun.

I have visited a few times over the years when it was more of a pub that did food instead of a restaurant, but my most recent visit last week found it now much more of a restaurant than a pub. But it doesn’t really work as a restaurant for me. Poor acoustics and an unnecessary thumping music system make it far too noisy for a relaxing meal. Service is patchy and more aligned to a standard pub ( although that’s not a sleight against the staff we encountered, who were very friendly and hard working, but there were just not enough of them to deal with a full house). The saving grace was the food and the four different Sunday lunches we had were all very good. If it’s still going for the pub / bar vibe then the changes made since my last visit would seem to negate this. The four ale hand pumps that used to line the bar have completely disappeared from the bar which is now dominated by the two remaining chrome keg tap figments, and although there are a few craft ale option, but not enough to define it as a modern craft bar. And now every table in the place is laid for dining. The only spot that wasn’t from what I could see was one remaining sole settee set up in the window section of the saloon lounge at the far Church Street end. Maybe this place works as a restaurant by day and then a bar when the open kitchen shuts. But I’m not convinced about the restaurant part, despite the best efforts of the chefs working the open kitchen, who can clearly cook on the evidence of our Sunday lunch.

Visited for Sunday lunch with a friend. Had a couple of pints at the bar before we went to out table. Before going to our table a tried to order another beer to take with me. I was told by the barmaid (apparently the manager and should know better) that I had to go to the the table to order there. When I said I would rather order at the bar I was told aggressively “no, they will take your order at the table”. Really unprofessional and left me quite shocked. I assume they are after the service charge that would be added to the drinks if they are ordered at the table. Roast was ok but nothing to write home about. Many good pubs in Stokey, alas, this isn’t one of them.

Me and my daughter were looking forward to our Sunday roast at The Three Crowns, which appeared to be well attended, popular place in Stoke Newington. Our roast beef dinner was the worst we’ve ever had - meat was raw and tasteless and hardly warm, 3 hard rock roast potatoes I couldn’t jab with my fork, a few slices of carrot and a watery gravy.... yuck! I ate a half of that because I was starving, my daughter left most untouched. We paid £62! I didn’t even mention that we had to wait for our cutlery long after our dinner was served... Never again! We went to a lovely Chinese restaurant next door to have a decent meal after that.

The Three Crowns has always been a firm favourite of mine but hadn’t been since it reopened after Lockdown. It was a bit of a palaver getting the table in the first place. I’d booked online for six but wanted to add more people. I tried emailing but no response, it was difficult to get an answer by phone with repeated promises to phone me back broken. Eventually I got an email back saying the booking was confirmed. If I hadn’t had such good meals there in the past I would have given up and booked elsewhere. That brings me to the food. It was satisfactory but not to the standard of old. Meat was ok but the plates were cold so everything arrived a bit cold. The roast potatoes were hard and the Yorkshire’s were a really odd texture like they’d been fried rather than baked. The service however was great and really fast. One other thing, the website needs updating. It is not clear if dogs are allowed and given everyone now has a dog in Stoke Newington, this may be putting people off.

Thank you Miguel, our brilliant server who found us a table AND got our order in, even after last orders. What a legend! He was so attentive and welcoming, with a very friendly persona and lovely attitude to work even though he was tired! Thank you Miguel! And totally delicious burgers from Krapow! 🥰

What a a surprisingly poor attitude from staff,from the moment I set foot into the building there was very unfriendly and confrontational atmosphere about staff, you would be wrong to think with the world in it's current srate and the lack of money floating about resturanters would be overjoyed at people turning up to dine out, not at this establishment, after a few minutes of entering the resturant I decided this establishment was not for me,why the staff were so rude and confrontational I will never know, good luck to the owners of this establishment, your staff are a real credit to you, you have a winning formula. I will give you a 0.5 out of a possible 10. I am in hospitality myself, think you best have a clear out.

My husband and I went to the restaurant for a Sunday roast. The food was actually very nice apart from the potatoes which were hard. As we went late in the evening, that was understandable. We had a waiter called Alex who was very badly organised. He had to make various trips because he wasn’t efficient. For example he didn’t take my drink order so we had to call him back. Then he didn’t bring the milk when I ordered my tea. I could see the table next to us had the same problem. The reason I felt compelled to write a review was that we saw Alex wiping his nose on a tissue. He then went to bring plates of food to the tables without washing his hands or at least using hand sanitiser. We approached the manager who I believe was called Miguel. He was sat at a table with Alex and other people eating a meal. When my husband asked if he was the manager, he confirmed it and was going to leave the table. However, it was awkward as Alex was sitting there. Again, the food and atmosphere is excellent but I wouldn’t return or recommend it because I wouldn’t feel confident in the hygiene standards. Alex looks very scruffy also which doesn’t help. In an eating establishment, a person has to feel confident that the waiter has basic standards in cleanliness.

I live in the area so I thought I would stop for a drink at this nice looking place but I would never go back again after I came across the rudest barman yesterday. He is the guy with bleached blond hair on the top, Asiatic looking. I ordered two beers, he got one of them wrong (which is totally fine, this can happen to everyone) but when gently telling him and asking to change it he called me liar and after I insisted he put his nose in one of them, only to realize I was right and without an apology or a simple smile decided to make me wait for ages before finally giving me the right beer, without showing respect still. Not sure what was wrong with this guy on this particular night but his behavior was not acceptable and all my friends served by him that night agreed on this. I won't recommend or go back to that place to get such a bad service again.

Booked a table as it seemed to have something for everyone. We were the only table in the restaurant section at the time, so it was not busy but from the moment we sat down our server seemed annoyed to have to serve us. Even when we ordered drinks she seemed like she couldn't even be bothered. When asked why there was mayo and cheese in the Vegan options replied "I didn't write the menu". As someone who cannot eat certain foods, I did not feel safe eating here. So we paid for our drinks and left.

Never had a Sunday roast Assembled in a tower with a big lump of fat on the top hardly any meat and pretty tasteless

So, where do I start, the heavy doors to get in/out, the lack of signage saying something simple like 'wheelchair entrance here' or a 'accessible' toilet that isn't used as a store room for baby high chairs, no excuses for saying it's on thr website. Oh and not forgetting NO RADAR key to access it but you have to go and ask the manager to open the Yale lock to get in. I chose this pub specifically as the website boast this: "Facilities – An accessible toilet is available for use on the premises. The premises is accessible for wheelchair users via the entrance to the premises on Church Street as well as an entrance on Stoke Newington High Street." The High Street entrance was actually closed. The accessible toilet has only 1 handrail, awkwardly positioned so I couldn't lift myself up from my wheelchair. I have a standard manual wheelchahir and found it difficult to grt in and out of the toilet as well as turn around in there. Being treated as a 2nd rate citizen having to ask for a key to this broom cupboard is disgraceful. Having a tight as hell entry to it as well didn't help as there was a table directly opposite. The manageress didn't seem to give a damn. I quote the website again "In the first instance, if you're in the pub, do ask to speak to a manager." Being in a wheelchair doesn't make me incapable of doing thing, this pub did, and spoilt what should have been a good night. I go out frequently and pre plan where to go. If a pub has no accessibility info, I won't go there. However, this one did and I was sorely let down. To sum up, I strongly advise wheelchair users to avoid this pub/ I sure will be.

I booked a table a couple of weeks in advance for a family members birthday lunch and we were given a tiny table In the corner which was inaccessible from one side. We then ordered a negroni which appeared to be unavailable despite ingredients being present to use. We then ordered food- after an incredibly long wait half of the dishes came out- we then waited another half an hour for the other dishes to come- by which point half of us had finished....The food came out cold. The service was horrific. Half the wine options were unavailable It was an overall awful experience I’m shocked

My second pint of bitter was cloudy so after 10 minutes of it not settling I returned it to the bar where they tried to get me to keep it assuring me it would be okay but I didn’t want to take the risk and insisted on an alternative beer.We also ordered food and after 90 minutes we were told they had a technical problem with the order not being sent to kitchen so had to wait another 15 mins. They offered some free drinks or snacks to keep us amusedThe end if the table had all the dirty plates and glasses from previous customers

Went here for Sunday roast with the family. The atmosphere was very friendly with helpful staff. Roast was delicious, with all the trimmings. Will definitely come back!

Visited with my sister, they were willing to make adjustments to accommodate her dietary needs. I had the lamb roast and it was superb. A great place for a Sunday roast and the atmosphere is very nice

Temo decir que el vino de precio medio me recordó a una fragante trementina que mi madre compró una vez en Poundland. Al recibir una queja al respecto, el gerente indiferente se negó a cambiar nuestras gafas, lo que en realidad fue afortunado ya que el mal sabor distrajo de un debate muy difícil sobre el Brexit que se escuchó en la siguiente mesa. Me hubiera quejado más, si el camarero amable pero oprimido hubiera podido escucharme por encima de la música ensordecedora. Al parecer el DJ era nuevo.

Se reunió con amigos para tomar una bebida rápida antes del teatro y comer algo. Un lugar espacioso muy atractivo, había una zona de restaurante separada, pero como estábamos apurados, nos sentamos en la zona del bar, que estaba absolutamente bien. Había 3 platos principales veganos interesantes incluidos en el menú, y opté por el plato de tapas que estaba delicioso, realmente lo disfruté. Los amigos también estaban felices con sus comidas, todos regados con un vaso de muy buena casa blanca. El personal era un poco 'demasiado bueno para la escuela', pero este es Stokey, así que no me sorprendió tanto.

We popped in for a family meal as it looked warm and welcoming from the outside. We couldn’t have been more wrong. Service was slow to the point of total indifference, we waited far too long for the menus and when we requested a wine list we waited whilst the waitress went to look for one bringing back a crumpled up piece of paper. The food order was messed up and we had to return one dish despite being very explicit in our order. Our wine was plonked on the table without the waitress even bothering to open it for us. Over priced and we deeply regret paying the mandatory service charge as it was at best indifferent and at worse down right rude. I was forced to go and pay at the till as no bill arrived. Pub food, terrible service doesn’t justify charging restaurant prices. We won’t return, it spoilt a rare night when my family were all together and able to go out for dinner together and it angers me as it happens so seldom and on this occasion was ruined. We, as do most people work hard for our money and restaurants have a moral responsibility to ensure that the service they charge for is worth it.

Went to the three crowns for Valentines Day - had to snatch up the 3 course meal for £25 deal. Super easy to book a table and staff are lovely and helpful! Definitely will visit again.

Ok so straight of the bat we eat out a lot and one of my bugbears is pubs that fancy themselves as restaurants.

Poor service, food average and took 50mins to arrive (after asking three times). Probably best to go here for just a drink.

We visited here on a Sunday lunchtime about 1pm recently. The place has a nice atmosphere and was busy. We all opted for the roast dinner which was very nice indeed. My only comment is that the service was a little slow. We had to chase up drinks and desert menus. The family on the next table waited over an hour for their main course. I think they could have done with more staff. The food was good though.

Here's the list - Terrible pub. Rude doorstaff. Rude barman. Terrible crowd. Pushy. Shove. Loud. Annoying. Crap music played too loud with crap sound system. Load of piss heads that should really have gone home earlier. Worst pub in north east London award.

Llegó a un comedor PACKED - completamente reservado pero lograron acomodarnos. Fantástico cerdo y craqueo - cada bocado sensacional. Chefs realmente amables y personal servicial: teniendo en cuenta lo abultado que estaba, estoy realmente impresionado de que se mantuvieron al tanto de todo y se mantuvieron sonriendo. Un montón de familias felices y el comedor tiene muchas plantas nuevas que se ven increíbles. Maravillosa experiencia culinaria - ¡Regresaré!

New head chef has transformed the food at the three crowns - we have visited regularly over the last couple of months and never been disappointed. Cracking roasts, great value mid week specials and taste sensation brunches!

Had a great experience about a month ago at this pub! Not only do they make yummy food, but they actually care about what their customers think and take feedback on board. My boyfriend and I went in for Sunday roast one weekend in June and were not impressed - crappy service, sub-par roasties, and a lacklustre veggie option. The head chef, Joe, noticed that we did not enjoy our meal, and asked us for feedback. As I have a background in hospitality, I had lots to say and was surprised that he actually listened. We went back a few weeks later, and had a completely different experience. Friendly attentive staff, excellent food that is worth the money, and a massive step up from the first time around. Definitely going to be one of our regular spots now!

We are locals from the area me and my friends. But never I have ever been treated so poorly by the bouncers who acted like that place was select club and the bartending staff don't even care on whom arrived first and whom to serve first.

Uno es mucho donde elegir (restaurantes) en Stoke Newington, pero estoy muy contento de que nos acomodamos para almorzar en las Tres Coronas. La comida era extraordinariamente bueno y el servicio excelente. Disfrutamos de setas mejillones en castaño fermentado, con patatas fritas y pescado y patatas fritas con una cerveza local en Hackney ,. Sabes la cocina es excelente cuando incluso los condimentos son hechos en las premisas - una ketchup.

I've always really liked the pub but not necessary the food so i was really excited to hear about a new chef who has recently taken over. The food is so very very much better now! We went today (Sunday 24th June 2018) and had lunch (6 adults and 3 children). The dining space is relaxed and lovely and the staff were efficient and friendly. The food however was a complete pleasure and seems a world apart from the old roasts. The chef came and had a friendly chat and we all cleaned our plates clear and left feeling full and satisfied. The roast has a seasonal, summery air so not too heavy for a summery hot day and washed down with a lovely glass of wine it was perfect. I'm looking forward to my next meal there.

Had a amazing meal here recently - the guest chefs A La Mesa have changing seasonal menus. Vegetable focused, but with meat options. Super seasonal and bloody delicious. Staff were so nice and I love the design of the ‘eating’ bit of this place, huge windows and lovely furniture.

when approaching the bar at The Three Crowns, dont even bother queing in.. cause bartenders pick others arriving after you to serve!! So get ready to be kicked out by useless racist security personel who do not even listen what you’re saying!! And obviously bar management is not around when all of these happening!!!

Fui con un grupo de amigos después de una comida en casa de arte Babel. nos dieron nuestra primera bebidas y alguien nos dijo que el lugar estaba por cerrar pronto, pero podemos ir de bar en la planta baja abierta hasta las 4:30 de la mañana. Nosotros (un grupo de 5 amigos) bajamos y nos alojamos allí por 15 minutos. Entonces, queríamos más bebidas, y era mi partido, así que nos fuimos al bar. Esperé alrededor de 10 minutos y fue el último de la cola. Cuando fue mi turno para pedir, alguien (un inglés) se puso en frente de mí tan rápido pero antes pidió su bebida, le dije a la camarera "disculpe yo estaba antes que él y me miró y me dijo: "sí, él era antes que yo". Les explique lo sucedido y les preguntó qué se entiende por 'estar en la equivocada"? Pero pusieron mis amigos y yo y nos dijo que estoy ove'. La gente de seguridad eran muy agresivos y no quería escuchar lo que quería decir. Nunca he experimentado un trato degradante en mi vida. La razón por la que creo que a mi me sucedio es porque de mi trayectoria. No puedo explicar lo contrario. Yo estaba allí como un cliente y no de ninguna manera causar ningún problema ni me he agresivos hacia cualquiera. Yo no podía entender lo que me trataron de esa manera. A la camarera que llamó a la seguridad: no tienes derecho a destruir mi noche! El chico que eligió para servir antes me dijo que que estaba antes que él y fue mi turno. Sinceramente, yo no entiendo por qué se llama la seguridad. Que pena por ti! La razón por la que escribo es que estoy tan enojado por el trato que he recibido y mis amigos y que no tienes derecho a hacerme sufrir. A la dirección de las Tres Coronas, iba a pasar alrededor de 60 libras en bebidas y porque sus cosas #racistas que no pude. En un lugar como #Stokenewington, creo que es una vergüenza que se emplean como idiotas y bigots. Puede informar al público qué puede hacer sobre este incidente atroz?

Yo solía ir a las Tres Coronas muy a menudo, cuando las bebidas han anunciado su nuevo menú vegetariano que estaba super feliz. . Cenamos aquí con mi hijo y nos encantó, es un gran pub extensa con un relajado ambiente. Muchas velas que era un toque agradable. Ambos tuvimos el salmón y una cerveza, ambos deliciosos. V también un buen servicio al cliente

What a waste of money. Poor food - either burnt or tasteless. I think the staff know so they dont say 'is everything OK?' as you tend to get in other places.

We visited for a friends birthday , boards all around the pub clearly advertise two double gin and tonics for £10 but when we went to the bar they said they had ran out of gin yet our friend who ordered minutes before was given...

Good local joint - just don't order the burger (its a terrible, condensed, rubbery thing). The steaks and fish are pretty good though.

Incredibly surrounded by high quality ale-houses this stupid outfit manages to run out of ale midweek and have not got the competence to have a spare barrel. This is what obtained on Saturday when the area was heaving because of both football and international Rugby....

I have always been put off coming here for food or a drink as on previous experiences have been more than disappointing when it came to service, it got to the point where I just stopped coming.

By some scheduling abomination I found myself here three times in the space of four days - great each time, nice beers and fun crowd and music in the evening.

My daughter brought me to this lovely old world pub for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere is lovely and the service is excellent too. I loved the lunch. As a vegetariain it can be difficult to get a nice Sunday roast but this venue makes a great effort. The nut roast was delicious and the veg was second to none. Well done Three Crowns! Highly recommended.

Fuimos para un asado de la semana pasada y estaba emocionado cuando nos dijeron que habían empezado a su servicio nocturno de asados. "Whoopee" pensé, no conseguir uno viejo y hubieran sentado alrededor de una hora. Lamentablemente estaba equivocado. Tuve el asado y él tenía el pollo y todo de nuestros platos fue tibia, excepto la kale, que estaba frío. Las únicas excepciones fueron el real asado y pieza de pollo que estaban calientes. Supongo que diría la verduras bañados algún tiempo antes y era servir la parte principal en la parte superior como órdenes. La Yorkshire los budines eran tan crujientes eran casi quemado y yo pedí más salsa que venía en una jarra de leche de metal y era tan grueso que no podía difundirse de la boquilla, a splodged en la parte superior haciendo un desastre por todas partes. Tengo que decir que el sabor de la era deliciosa asado y el personal era genial. Pero si no se sirven de todo caliente cuando has sólo nos dieron 6 cubre sucediendo es bastante pobre.

Mi segunda visita esta semana y de nuevo no hay ale; gestión o no? Hay proveedores de buena cerveza con un minuto de caminata, por ejemplo los carniceros jolly, White Hart, JD Wetherspoons; y el autobús y caballos. Para evitar este desastre.

Came here for Sunday roast last weekend after hearing great things about this place but wasn't blown away. Beef was a little dry and everything was just a little lacking. Service was good and had a good time but will probably only come back for drinks.

Don't come for a quiet drink...or relaxed Sunday lunch with friends.

Perfectamente bien para una copa rápida en un sábado por la tarde. Los precios son promedio para un Pub de Londres (5 libras la pinta, coca-cola de 2 libras). La cerveza era de buena calidad. Lugar está un poco desgastado y el servicio no está mal, pero por favor sonrisa!

Simplemente me fui al crown para la noche de carne, pedí un raro juego y me mandaron un filete bien hecho. En la noche de juego dice que te dan vino con su carne, lo que olvida demasiado dirán que es que usted sólo vino tinto. Tuve que dar la mía y tuvimos que pedir otra bebida. La comida es mediocre y no vale la pena el precio que pagamos por ella.

We ate here last November when we were in London for the birth of our Grandson. We enjoyed an execellent Sunay lunch here with a side dish of the tasty cauliflower cheese. Good selection of beers, comfortable lounges and a nice atmosphere. The pub is an old style Victorian London boozer , all high ceilings and plate glass.

Went here with the family for Sunday roast lunch, atmosphere was great, food was really great, a full plate of nice quality beef, and all the trimmings, staff were really nice, very helpful couldnt do enough to look after us.

We came here for a Sunday roast and ordered at half 1. By 2pm and surrounding tables being served before us, we assumed they had missed our table. We advised the waitress and she said the chefs would be make us our dinner asap. Half an hour later, more surrounding tables getting served and we are still waiting. Asked to speak to the 'Manager' who clearly was either very junior or not of management material who merely apologised. Refund given. Food on previous occasions has been lovely. Management skills woeful.....

Tried this restaurant for the 3rd time to give it another chance and have now given up.Had fish and chips, the fish was overcooked and dry, and the chips were those skinny fried, story home cooked chips a must for any decent eatery. Was given a full refund.

We've been regular visitors at the Three Crowns for the past 3 years. The pub is very nice and its aesthetic owes a lot to its beautiful facade, which breathes authenticity and a London that no longer exists.The interior is bombarded by natural light thanks to its big and bright windows and the pub offers a good variety of Ales, craft beers, IPAs and spirits.Most importantly the food served is exquisite and could be qualified as gastropub/british fusion. Ingredients are locally sourced and the chefs in the kitchen know exactly what they are doing. Seasonal and daily menu that spans from steak to duck breast to lamb to Sunday Roast to fish and chips or burgers... you'll certainly find something you like. Give this place a try and you'll soon make it a regular spot.

A friend and I had dinner on bank holiday Monday. The staff were less than friendly upon our arrival, which should have been a red flag. My friend's a vegetarian - 3 out of 4 vegetarian dishes were unavailable. Like the cauliflower and cheese. On Bank Holiday Monday they run out of cauliflower and cheese??!?So we ordered the roast dinners - hers was the nut, mine the chicken. Clearly leftovers from either the day before, or even the WEEK before. Hard potatoes, stale Yorkshire pudding and boiled-to-death broccoli. The rood arrived in 10 mins, which suggested it was sitting around waiting to be eaten. If we hadn't been so hungry, we would have sent it all back. After the lousy service we were presented with a bill that included a £3.75 bottle of sparking water which we hadn't ordered, as well as a 12% service charge that had been automatically added, which was unavoidable. I felt cheated paying £15 for a plate of food that was probably worth about £2. We almost objected to the service charge, but thought it better to just leave and not come back.This place is in a prime location on Stoke Newington High Street and could be so much more under better management. Such a shame.

I was recently over visiting a fiend who took me here for a drink. Couldn't believe the bar staff were being so unprofessional doing shots of tequila & pints round the coffee machine....pretty poor

Great value for money fast service friendly staff ,menu not to large so good quality what they offer . Not to noisy so could have a great catch-up with friends.

went here specifically because we were told it was child/family friendly, good food and service, we were not disapointed, turned up at 1.30pm on a sunday, and the place was packed, wheeled in the pushchair and was lucky enough to find a table near the door, got the drinks and asked about the lunches and were we supposed to pre-book? was surprised to be told if you can get a table crack on, and we did!!Pork and lamb with all the trimmings, about 3 minutes between ordering and service, piping hot and well presented,and the taste, wonderfull !!! the deserts were tasty and fantastic value, the staff both courteous and attentive, and unflappable under extreme pressure, prices were reasonable, and the music good, would recommend this place, was a proper enjoyable lunch, gave a big up thanks to the chefs who worked tirelessly all afternoon, along with the excellent staff who were brilliant to us.

Sunday lunch was exactly like school dinners. Slop served up from large serving dishes, grey meat, cold food and unappealing all round. Avoid if you want a good meal.

Came to London for the week end went here for bloody Marys and the were bloody good....Very intresting toilets bit like being in a farm yard.Loved it.

Mycket populär pub med många gäster. Trots det hittade vi bord inne i restaurangen. Många gäster står även utanför längs gatan och dricker öl.Lite missförstånd med beställningen av mat hade vi och en envis servitris som ville övertala oss att äta något annat än det vi beställt. Men det löste sig av annan personal (kanske ägaren).Maten var hur som helst god och ölen också.

55th birthday, 15 friends, a great night. Service was good - the waiting team did very well to look after us when the place was rammed. Food was good, vibe was excellent - even though we were probably the oldest group in the restaurant. We all genuinely had a really good time. Some us even disgraced ourselves on the dance floor.

This useless pub is no good for Real Ale lovers! They are inconsistent in its provision : use the Jolly Butchers or the nearby Wetherspoons.

It is great to see an historic town centre pub thriving like this. Much of the original remains with just enough modernising to make it comfortable.Three of us rolled up on spec for Sunday lunch and we were squeezed in by the helpful staff.They have got Sunday lunch off to a fine art , with every element just as you would want. The potatoes are crispy. The Yorkshire puddings are enormous and tasty. The vegetables are beautiful rather than an afterthought. The meats plentiful and delicious, between us we had beef, pork and lamb and all were judged wonderful.Extra gravy provided on request as were three spoons for the one pudding we could manage between us. This was a delicious apple crumble. If you know who did Sunday lunch it would be just like this.The staff were all very friendly and efficient.Two minor plus points were that the aforementioned Yorkshire pudding came with all roasts as standard, not just the beef and when the spicing of red cabbage was queried, the chef knew exactly what had been used which implied it was prepared by him, not bought in.I really can't remember a better Sunday lunch. I suggest you book as it would be horribly disappointing to see the food going to table and discover you were going to miss out.

Ive had the roast beef here twice and it has been exceptional both times.Good portion size and the braised red cabbage is the best!Ive always gone early, around 1pm and have been able to get a table right away.

First time there waiting for the gig to start in the basement so decided to eat and I was not disappointed. There were 2 veggie options which were lovely. The service was great and they had a nice wine (a little pricey but ok)

Four of us visited for lunch last Sunday we had to wait for a table which was fine, but they really miss a trick by not offering any nibbles to keep you going while you wait! On the upside they make a fantastic Bloody Mary. Langoustine starter disappointing not enough garlic butter and only 4 of them by the time the shell was off not worth the effort. Thai fish cakes excellent and dressing with courgette fritters was lovely. We all had a roast which was very good with plenty of meat of excellent. There was one excellent waitress who was run off her feet there was a definite lack of staff with any knowledge to assist her. It all took too long and we were left over 20 minutes with dirty plates in front of us. I would go back because place has a good atmosphere and food was on the whole very good

I've had a lot of burgers in my time.... and this one is up there with one of the best! The meat was cooked beautifully and the chips were delicious! The quality of produce is excellent and extremely reasonably priced. The interior is really lovely too and staff very friendly!

Every time I eat here I get excellent food. They use ingredients of superb quality and prices to quality is extremely good. Don't look at overall stars here, it does not do the food justice. This is the easiest 5 Stars I have given. Try for yourself! I want to go and hug the chefs now!

Having eaten here a few months back, there seems to have been a significant decline in the quality of the food. At £15 for a toast you would expect:1. Fresh, crispy potatoes, rather than two small tired (reheated?) items. 2. Broccoli that had been cooked properly, rather than a raw, woody stem. 3. A nut roast that wasn't a dry, fairly tasteless mess on the plate with no gravy. On the plus side the meat wasn't too bad and the service was very good. Just a shame the waiting staff were let down by the kitchen overall.

I've always enjoyed Stoke Newington, with it's eclectic mix of old school and contemporary style which it combines with a feeling being in the middle of somewhere that's constantly evolving. This pub represents exactly that. It's a wonderful old building that has been lovingly restored, retaining many of the original features whilst serving really good fresh reasonably priced food. You don't of course have to eat there it's good just to meet up with friends for a drink and to soak up the atmosphere. The clincher for me was that it also has an neat little venue downstairs where they have club nights and live shows and very reasonably price they are to. Definitely worth a visit.

Great corner pub at the intersection of Church Street and the High Street. The food is great, the drink selection varied enough and the seating area offers a large selection of sofas, tables and corners. I like to be able to reserve a table for Sunday lunch, as some pubs don't if they know they will get very busy. Service varies, depending on who is there. One day you will be greeted with a large smile and another day the person behind the bar is too cool to smile, but is mostly positive. Recommend it as one of the best in the area

We each had a roast: 2 beef, 1 pork. All good portions. Only caveat was my apple sauce looked and tasted like baby food. I prefer something a bit less processed. Messed up our booking but finally sorted. We were billed for wrong table, finally sorted. Staff very helpful, but room rather cold which made life less pleasurable.

Have eaten here several times, the meat is cooked perfectly, generous portions, huge Yorkshire puddings and fresh veg. Tried the nut roast for the first time and it was delicious. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

I don't understand some of the bad reviews on here. I have eaten at this pub on a few occasions and each time the food has been very good. They also have special offers on weeknights which are excellent value. On top of that the pub has great beer and is both spacious and cosy. One of the best pubs in Stoke Newington in my opinion.

Just had a wonderful roast. Succulent moist meat. Only just cooked to med rare. The potatoes and veg were wonderful. The pub was busy and yet we got served quick and the food was with us in about 15 mins. No problem here as a couple of pints of wonderful beer was enjoyed. Another hit for the Cornish projecct.

Food was terrible, dry hard potatoes, i think aunty bessie's from iceland, rest of it was mushy and tasteless, we did complain and she did apologise but no mention of refund or any sort of discount, had there been we wouldn't be writing a poor review, don't bother going for food,looks nicer than it tastes yuk yuk yuk

Ate an evening meal here, a group of four of us. It was steak night so my husband and son shared thieir steak platter. complete with a free glass of wineWhilst the rest of the party had sole. We had a charcuterie platter and corgettes in tempura batter to start. we even squeezed in a pud of chocolate fondant ( cooked perfectly) and a divine lemon posset..Food was plentiful, hot, and very tasty. Service could have been little smilier but it would not put us off going again.

I've been there a few times - their Sunday roasts are great but the service wasn't that great. Good atmosphere and food though.

We had an hour and a half to play with which we thought would be ok seeing as they seemed to be bringing out the roast dinners pretty quickly....except they didn't put our order through the till so... I saw everyone else getting served around us and they had sat down a long time after us which was pretty frustrating. Then I saw the waiter and waitress looking at their order pads; realising they had given someone the wrong order or forgotten ours and burst out laughing. Great. Then a different waitress comes over ten minutes later and says 'guys, can we just clarify your order'... which you immediately know means they haven't cooked your food and we were kinda in a rush by this point. I told the waitress that loads of people who had sat down after us had been served and that we were in a rush and she said she would put the order through really quickly and it would be '2 minutes'. It's always at that point where you wonder if the meat is actually going to be cooked through. Anyway the food came about 10 minutes later and was good but the service had kind of put us off. My partner was rushing and got food stuck in his throat. And true to form they had bought us water glasses but no water. Then my partner had to leave so I said I would settle the bill. I asked for the bill and a different waitress came over with it. Nothing had bee taken off as a gesture. I then sat there on my own for about 20 minutes until she came over with a card machine. I reiterated that our food order hadn't gone through and we had the meal late - 'I thought there may have been some sort of gesture off the bill?' To which she replied 'well I did take the service charge off'. I firmly stated that we would not have paid it anyway seeing as the service was so poor. She just said 'ok' and took my card. I paid and left quickly; rather disappointed with the whole thing. What a shame - the food is great but the staff are rubbish.

absolutely cant beat their steak night offer! so tasty, and incredible value. been a few times now - once i even got steak, half a (seriously fresh) cornish lobster and a glass of wine all for £20. staff are pleasant and there is a great vibe. can be a bit loud if they have a gig on downstairs, but its never been an issue for me.

Good atmosphere, friendly staff, interesting selection of beers and an excellent burger. Loved the reflections in the skylight.

This pub used to be a little like the Star Ward Bar about 10 years ago. always great but every Alien you can imagine (I fitted in well) but of late it has gone 'gastro' and the food really is worth a visit...
