Second visit and once again same issue. Four adult and one child's carvery only two very small dishes of vegetables . Equates to one small broccoli floret, one small cauliflower floret. Table spoon of red cabbage, and suede mash. Waitress brought less than they should anyway and had to wait. Cannot believe for a few extra pence they could provide a sensible portion. After speaking to the manager last time they haven't taken any notice. Will not be going back spent £160 meal and drinks, will take our business else where. Calverley arms next time!

Visited for the 1st time today and likely won't be back. We ordered two sandwiches & sides ( £27.90) and was just disappointed with the sides, £6 and they were very small. Sandwiches were ok, but after a 40 minute wait, we were just hungry. We saw other people's food, it looked quite nice so perhaps we picked the wrong. We were both underwhelmed after looking forward to visiting.

An update on my review below. I have now been asked to apologise to Pippa by the owner despite being a customer for years. And merely wanting to bring to their attention how I felt humiliated and upset by the way I was spoken to regarding my dog. I have always said it’s not what you say to a person it’s how you say it. Due to the owner and staff being best friends I have been told I am not welcome without an apology. I can understand if I was drunk and disorderly or abusive. Or got into a fight with another customer. But I did not swear or get rude - I asked Pippa to speak to me politely as opposed to how she did in her tone’s . My complaint was not taken seriously , rather I have been treated badly as a result of informing the owners. Almost like I am attacking them. This is not my character. I am a person with integrity and treat others how I want to be treated. The Thornhill is our local and I have was born in Calverley and I have grown up here yet I am astonished that despite my obvious upset regarding this issue this is how it’s been dealt with. I left my original review as there is no complaints procedure online and I was unable to find anyone to talk to and eventually I contacted the owner directly. I also suggested I remove the review but was accused of threatening the business when I explained this was due to me wanting to bring it to their attention as a business owner. Of how Pippa made a customer feel. As I felt that upset about it. I am astonished I have been treated this badly. I am not an unreasonable person. Dog owners please be warned if you dog does bark this does not create a “harmonious” environment as I have been informed by owner. I hope this is taken on board.

I never leave reviews however I have been a regular in the thornhill for years and love going here - food and service is always great and so are the staff. It is a dog friendly pub and I took my small dog this evening as I always do. He is usually welcome - He was recently attacked so is a bit barky than usual. Pippa a member of staff spoke to me extremely rudely and it was humiliating regarding my dog who was only barking a couple of seconds. It’s was not only hurtful and upsetting but embarrassing for myself and my family . I go to the thornhill on Xmas day and enjoy my time there but I am shocked I was treated the way I was this evening . I am extremely upset and disappointed by how she informed me as she is a manager she can say what she wants. I am also a manager of a success business and I would not speak to anyone this way. My husband is a regular and spends 100s in the thornhill and we are in there most weeks. Pippa needs to see how she comes across and not offend people where there dogs are concerned, I am hoping this gets picked up so others don’t feel upset when taking their dogs to a dog friendly pub.

Always meet here for a catch-up with some former work-mates, and always enjoy the experience. The staff are friendly and efficient - no-one ever seems to be left waiting. The food is typical pub menu, but all the better for that! Meals are always freshly cooked, very tasty and hot, you can tell they don't hang around for long in the kitchen. The burgers are v.good! The atmosphere at the place is great, there's always people in...we did a Christmas song quiz last year which was really good fun with lots of participation. All in all, a lovely pub, either just for drinks or for food, and easy to get parked too! Well done all at The Thornhill!

Short version: really enjoyed our meal today, so much so, we've booked our Xmas dinner, even though it's not listed yet. The staff were lovely and really helpful, which is great to see and experience. I could nick pick at a couple of things, but it's nothing more than that. We had a great time 👍 Slightly longer version: the pork (roast dinner) was great; I know this is odd to say to some people, but it actually tasted of pork meaning they've taken the time to buy in good quality meat and cook it well. The stuffing (which was extra) tasted really good; it's not a lot to look at, it is stuffing after all 🤷‍♂️🤣. A couple of elements to the meal were not as hot as I'd like, but that was all. Even the veg was prepared and cooked really well, in that it was full of flavour, not watery and not overcooked! The veg we did get were in dishes for "two people", not sure that was enough, but that's me 😹 A member of our good had seafood linguine (not photographed) and it got "two thumbs"! I was honestly jealous as it looked amazing 🤤 Anywho, overall we had a great meal here 👍🤝☺️

Nice family pub with lots of lovely features and a great roast dinner. Starters consisted of the goats cheese and fish cake, both good portions and flavour. Roast pork was superb! Let down by the brisket, was a little tough and chewy and lacked the tenderness you expect from brisket. Oh it started of so well! The menu was so good , so many choices! We parked on the road at the side of the pub, there are a few spaces at the front. As we walked towards the pub we could see over the wall a really good sized beer garden. Great for families on a summers day. We had rung to book a table as it was a Friday lunch time, but there were tables available. Once seated we were told of the specials and the roast/pie/soup of the day. We ordered our drinks whilst looking at the extensive menu. I went for a sandwich the others a small and normal roast dinner. We were not asked if there were any allergies. Food took around 25 mins. The roast looked lovely, vegetables came in a separate dish. My ciabatta roast beef sandwich tasted like it looked a little plain and bland. The meat just didn't have much flavour unfortunately. The roast was all ok but again they felt the beef was bland. Would we return yes the menu is so good I want to try other choices. The service was ok but we were not asked if the food was ok , we were not asked about allergies, one of our drinks was flat but the waitress dealt with that swiftly. The pub itself is accessable but I forgot to look for disabled toilets. The atmosphere was good and the decor was good.

Always good food and a lovely pub to go to, easily the best in Calverley. We felt very welcome at the start. However, this time let down by slow service, though fairly understandable, given a busy Mother's Day. I think it is normally fine. Felt a bit pricier than normal, especially being charged full 2 course whack for starter and desert only for a pensioner. Also, we didn't need to be asked if we wanted more drinks when we had been waiting ages for desert, as it felt like being sold to and taking advantage of our wait. But...I would still recommend as put it down to it being mother's day.

Absolutely delicious food and cosy atmosphere!! I've eaten here about 5-6 times over the past 2 years and each and every time the food has been faultless. People who know me know I wouldn't say that if I didn't mean it. I went last night as I heard they'd had a menu change and it did not disappoint. We had the Peppered Chicken and Chicken Parmesan, both served with an abundance of yummy side dishes (fries, roast new potatoes, dressed salad and seasonal vegetables). The warm cookie dessert is amazing. I could eat it just on its own with a lovely coffee (which they also do) i.e without the sauce or ice cream. It's everything you want in a cookie. Crunchy on the outside and gooey in the middle. They've had all their chairs reupholstered recently so it's looking a lot smarter than before making the vibe extra cosy. If you're planning a visit, make sure you book not to be disappointed as it does get very busy for food. Great selection of drinks too. 10/10

The manager who was on tonight was lovely I couldn't fault her at all and I thank her for her kindness, but my burger meal was nice, my sister's fish and chips were delightful and my mother's koftas were cold and same too were the first onion rings that came out. Even though they changed it, when I made the waitress aware of it not as much of an apology, but she gave a vacant response and walked off, when my mother made the the waiter aware of her koftas being cold he gave her that look as if he didn't believe her until she said give it a feel. Thankfully my mother didn't mind eating it as cold as it was but the fact of the matter was the food took too long to come out so I wonder was the food waiting in the kitchen to come out because the time it took to come out shouldn't have come out cold like it did. The very kind and understanding manager who I spoke to at the end took my feedback on board and wasn't rude or standoffish about it and was kind enough to knock off some of the faults of the menu off that bill which was kind of her. I was disappointed because I came last year and I loved it and I couldn't wait to come back a year later for the same experience to which i didn't quite get tonight. I think some of the young staff there need more training on their waitering and customer service skills, I did also feel like you had to give the staff signal for them to take your order too otherwise you were sat waiting and also we had to ask for the food menu which should've been given to us when we were shown our table. Apart from the the view errors it's not stopped me from wanting to come back but it's not somewhere I wish to book again in a hurry sadly and it dissapoints me a lot! The food needs to be spot on because it isn't cheap to eat here and the young staff working here need to be a little bit more attentive otherwise the again for third time the manager in charge was faultless.

We've been wanting to go for a while. Caught between a 3 and a 4 star review. The food was mostly good. Specifically the steak and ale pie had far too much veg in it and the onion rings had the taste of the oil. But the Gravy was outstanding and the chunky chips were pretty good. The service was about average definitely better than a spoons. The toilets were clean but in need of some repairs like taps securing to the basin. All of this is still could have been a 4 but when you add the price in to it it becomes a 3 star because at over £25 per head for a main and 1 drink each it isn't great. Sadly not likely to visit this grand old building again because I won't pay top prices for average.

Update as of 25/04/2025 tonight we ordered the fusion mega box and an extra ok sauce at a whopping £27 the meal came but not with fried rice as stated on the menu but with boiled rice. We called the take away several times and had to wait an extra 30-40 minutes for the rice to arrive. We don’t like boiled rice at all. The rest of the food was cold and had to be re heated. So my original review has changed from a 5 star review to a 3 star review. And now for the original review. Just opened a week ago and me and the wife ordered the fusion mega box which comes with 8 veg spring rolls 8 onion rings, 4 prawn toast, 4 spare ribs, chicken balls, salt and pepper shredded chicken, chips, fried rice, curry and sweet and sour sauce. We both were absolutely shocked how good the food was. It was so so good. I would advise order extra curry or sweet and sour sauce as There’s not enough for 2 people. The food was hot and amazing I will order this deal again. Very good very nice lol :) please give my review a thumbs up if this helped.
