The Thirsty Goat in Belfast

The door staff are extremely aggressive. They stop serving at 12 but verbally assault you if you haven’t finished your drink and left by 12:10! Door staff at that time start calling customers names like hag & bas*ard if they haven’t left. Extremely unnecessary aggression and extremely rude to paying customers! Also all doormen coming in to bully customers into leaving so quickly meant no doormen were left outside. I witnessed an assault as a result of this! Would never go back due to extremely unprofessional and aggressive doormen!

Absolutely worth going to. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Food was fantastic. If I’m in Belfast again. That’s where I’m going.

It started off really positive. We were able to be seated straight away on Easter Weekend. Great musical acts and food. Shame about the staff. I thought the waitress was going to punch me when I had told another waitress our tab had been closed before ordering another drink. I had a stand off with the waitress (who closed our tab before we finished) THE waitress came back slamming my drink down saying she asked if we wanted deserts and anything else which was a lie. We were expecting to have more drinks there but obviously lost in translation. Very rude Waitress. Would not recommend this place if you can't understand the accent you have no chance with the staff! . Staff needs to be trained in the hospitality sector.

Cenamos aquí un jueves por la noche y había muy buen ambiente. El boxty estaba muy rico, lo escogimos con salchichas y la verdad es que muy bueno. Amplia variedad de cervezas y unos camareros muy majos.

We didn’t think we were going to get any food as a lot of places were booked up due to Simple Minds performing locally. We managed to get a half booth, ordered our food which arrived in a timely fashion & was absolutely delicious, my salmon was delicious & hubby’s Irish stew divine, our friends waxed lyrical about their burgers too, we didn’t realise at the time but Luke Jones was in the booth next to us, had no idea who he was, but a young female jumped up as he was leaving & asked for selfie with him, he was very accommodating. We then made our way into the pub part & had a truly amazing evening, the female singer who came on later was just outstanding (picture included), what a voice & what a medley of amazing songs she sang, she had the whole place bouncing, it’s a must go to area for sure!

Visited about 6:30pm on a Saturday night when I feel things were just starting to liven up. The place was busy (though quick and easy to get served) and there was a live band playing. A great place to start off your night or maybe end it as the atmosphere may have been electric later in the evening (we only stayed for a pint),

We called in for some food the day after St Patrick's Day. The place was very welcoming, spotlessly clean and all the staff were very friendly and hard working. We both had the Beef Brisket on a Boxty. Absolutely gorgeous and just what was needed to soak up the beer from the day before! Definitely worth visiting if you are in The Cathedral Quarter of Belfast.

Lovely food, great atmosphere, really busy place. Food service was quick and the staff were friendly. The bar was busy for just drinks and we did have a long wait.

3 x couples who were on holiday together in NI dropped into the Thirsty Goat at approximately noon for a quick drink before continuing sightseeing. We grabbed our drinks at the bar, used the facilities and took a seat at a table with a "reserved 3:30pm" sign. A waitress then came over and pleasantly informed us that the table is booked at 3:30pm. We said... No problem, we're only here for a drink then we'll be gone. 20 minutes later she returned and told us that the table was now booked for 2:30pm. We said... no problem we are just finishing our drinks and we'll leave. This was our first drink at approximately 12:30pm. So we had TWO HOURS until the booking. 5 minutes later she returned again and said she needs the table and told us to go and finish our drinks in the garden. We weren't about to go out in the cold when we had barely anything left to drink so we walked to the bar to finish our drinks. She then returned AGAIN and said we couldn't stand at the bar (in a pub!?!) and had to go outside. We refused as we literally had dregs in our glasses. Then 2 - 3 minutes later another arrogant little waiter rudely said "You can't stand here. Why won't you go outside?" We told him firmly but politely "No." Proceeded to finish our drinks and left. We were not causing any form of nuisance or obstruction. We were quietly having a brief drink at a table that was available for 2 hours. It's difficult to know why we singled out for their ire. Could it be because we were English? Could it be because one of our party was black? I guess we'll never know. All of us left Derry with a very bad taste in our mouth. So much for Irish hospitality. None of us would ever return and we would definitely never EVER visit the Thirsty Goat.

Staff wonderful food terrible. We had the stew and it really wasn’t stew at all it was more potatoes, carrots and meat in a think gravy sauce. I’m also pretty sure my daughters tomato pasta was made with ketchup and was also terrible

If you dine here 10,000% recommend one of the 'Boxty' dishes - our party had the baked chicken & also the sausage & leek ones, both divine, creamy mash and lovely flavours, perfect portion size, not too heavy for a lunch meal either!

We have been to the Thristy Goat a few times before just for drinks and always enjoy visiting this bar. Last night was the 1st we tried eating in it and it was absolutely brilliant! The food was so tasty and we ate every bite! Not sure of our servers name (she had a short bob hairstyle and it was curled last night) but the receipt says we were served by Yasmin so I hope that is right so I am giving credit to the right person because the service we received in your restaurant last night was second to none! It was the best service I have received while out for dinner in a long long time! We will definitely be back for food in the near future 😋

Staff lack communication skills and were rude and abrupt…there are ways of making a point and being polite about it…food was ok, even though they had a 5 star hygiene review the place looked and felt grubby …no rush to go back at all…lots of better places to eat!

Me and my family came for our last meal of the city break. This was the best meal of our holiday and was especially made lovely by Aneesha who was so so friendly and lovely! Such good food and atmosphere, big recommendation from us!

The minute the bouncer spotted us at 3.30 in the afternoon he started asking my six year old if he would rather go to McDonald’s which then started that spiral with my 3 year old. Very much families not welcome. Couldn’t have been any more disappointed. Two skinny blondes let waltz in by us. Thumbs down by 10000

In our first visit to Belfast, which was very enjoyable, up until Saturday 20th January when it was completely ruined by the animalistic behaviour of the door staff. My husband was asked to leave the premises, we are still unclear why, he came to tell me, so I was not left alone, when two of the door staff pushed him to the ground. He was then dragged outside the back of the bar where at least four other door staff arrived. There was then at least six door staff kicking and punching him, focusing predominantly on his head, which could only be to cause maximum injury. During this assault I attempted to get in between these animals and my husband, who was by this point on the floor and was pushed in the chest and pulled by the arm, causing bruising. I also was told by one of the vile door staff “move out of the way little girl, before we really hurt you”. My husband has multiple bruising and swelling to the head and face, and is currently unable to work due to his injuries. My understanding is that door staff are employed to protect the patrons and keep the establishment safe, however it would appear the door staff at the Thirsty Goat are the biggest threat to the clientele! DO NOT USE UNLESS YOU ARE HAPPY TO RISK AN UNPROVOKED ATTACK!!!

Dropped into this place just after Christmas without a booking. Staff were very good and courteous too, squeezing us in (so to speak) by finding a table and making us feel welcome. It’s a busy place. Lots of buzz about it. We were too early for the live music, but the background music was good and not too loud either. Menus supplied, we were pleasantly surprised by the prices. Very reasonable especially for an eatery right in the heart of Belfast’s popular Cathedral Quarter, where prices tend to be higher if anything. Given this we didn’t know what to expect food-wise, but when it arrived (just a few minutes after ordering - not expected given how busy they were), there was nothing cheap or cheerful about it. The food was excellent. We had the burger and the chicken goujons. Good portions, cooked well, presented well and very tasty. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back.

Great atmosphere with a fantastic musician. Staff very attentive and we were served quickly. The food itself was a good quality. HOWEVER one diner was gluten free and we were assured that they could be accommodated for. The chef happily tweaked a dish from being breaded chicken to simple sliced chicken breast, which we were assured would solve the GF issue. Our diner had a reaction (immediately after finishing the meal) and we double checked that the meal was definitely gluten free. We were told at that point that there had been no error made and that the meal was gluten free. There was clearly an issue due to the reaction that was had, whether that was cross contamination or something else. I don’t think this was intentional, but the inability to accept responsibility and inability to cater for allergies is what has ensured that we won’t be back.

I have never seen such violent security personnel. At New Year Eve, a security guard hit a young man who was staggering, with an extremely violent punch in the face. No threat, no insults, just a security guard who wanted to feel powerful, and he broke his nose, what a pride ! Completely shocked, customers be careful...

Might sound crazy but I got my first steak EVER here and I really enjoyed it. Food arrived very quickly and even though I thought it was expensive I got the worth of my money as I got a delicious steak, onion rings, chips, some vegetables and steak sauce I think? Whole family enjoyed the meals and all was very quick. Great service, great food, thank you very much!!

Busy pub with live music. Quick service

A fantastic pub with a great atmosphere. There is a great selection of drinks to choose from and when there is live music playing it is a really lively and fun place to be. The taxidermy goat in the middle is also a really cool and unique fixture that makes this a fun place.

Good service, nice setting in Belfast

First trip to Belfast and had been told by a few people to visit for drinks/food. We were really looking forward to it however the staff were extremely rude which was a real shame. I appreciate we did go on New Years Day, however if you’re busy, only taking bookings, short staffed etc, that’s absolutely fine, just say politely.

Christmas party night was well organised and service was excellent. Only fault was the dessert.....Eton mess....no fruit and mini marshmallows and white chocolate buttons. A 4 year old would of loved it!

Went for Christmas dinner. Staff were very pleasant but my dinner came without the ham and stuffing so had to say to waitress and they brought me out some stuffing in a bowl. The vegetable soup was lacking a lot of veg but Eton mess was nice. Good atmosphere with live music and obviously a very popular place. Not as large choice of drinks as other places. Toilets very clean.

Work Christmas dinner - steak took 10 minutes to come out after everyone else’s, was pink even though I asked for well done! One turkey dinner had to go back because it was freezing, the rest where just luke warm. Two desserts had to be returned because they must have just been lifted out of the freezer, cold and rock hard (Christmas puddings!). Bread with the soup was toasted too much and rock hard. Chips were greasy and overdone! Pepper sauce was watery and tasteless!

Stopped off for food & enjoyed a Boxty!!! I had pulled Beef Brisket, Pepper Sauce & Onion Rings, It was great, enjoyed a Guinness after a visit to Titanic museum, perfect stop for refuelling in Belfast.

We popped in after walking past and I’m so glad we did. A delicious meal of traditional Irish food, with a great atmosphere and attentive and friendly staff. Love the fact there are two parts - a quiet restaurant/pub and the outdoor bar with live music. Keeps everyone happy. Would come back any time I visit Belfast again!

Friday night dinner and drinks. Live music was great and service was very good. Food was a bit cold but presented very well. I found the place to very loud and that took away from the pleasure of conversation with friends as it was a great effort to hear each other over dinner. Perhaps not such a problem for those who have perfect hearing. Great place though for relaxed atmosphere, drinks and the love music was very good.

Amazing food, really lovely and tasty! Atmosphere in here is relaxing and comfy, would recommend. We got the chicken waffle, vegtable curry and the open halloumi sandwich and it was all delightful

Recently enjoyed 4 cocktails and 3 courses for £40. Amazing value and choice of any cocktail. We booked on a Friday for 4.30. The food was great esp the sea food chowder

My girlfriend and I went there for an early dinner before catching our train. We enjoyed our food, pints and the atmosphere. The music was good and relaxing. The seats were very comfortable.

Fantastic bar, great service, clean loos and very hospitable bar staff. I would definitely be back and recommend to folks out for a nice social night. The music pre 21:30 was nice and minimal, no need to shout to be heard.

Went today for lunch and first up asked for a wine list to be told there wasn't one! Then onto the food and service..food was nice enough but service wasn't great..very rushed. Got our bill to be absolutely amazed to see that we had been charged £3 for tap water! ....never been charged that ever before! Had heard good things about this particular restaurant but don't think I.ll be rushing back

The food was nice and cocktails were lovely...my friend and I were quoted the wrong price for a bottle of white wine £28 instead of £24. The atmosphere in the bar was flat and the staff were unhelpful and not very welcoming. Charged £3 for a jug of water! Avoid this place £49 for 2mains and two cocktails....mediocre and overpriced.

Always lovely staff here- very friendly and attentive. The cocktails are delicious and the food is amazing and great portions. The music is good and the love music is even better. A need-to visit restaurant!!!

Was here with my friends in July and we were having a good night, when suddenly two men started commenting on my body and overall being very creepy. When i reported to the bouncer he spoke with the other bouncer on shift and told me...

The food is absolutely delicious, I would highly recommend coming here for the food alone. But food aside, the servers are very nice, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the music playing is hits across the last couple decades. All of this combined with their delicious IPA makes it a place you should definitely stop in at!

Ordered chicken sandwich ( allegedly chicken breast )...the most miserable bit of chicken ever....pointed this out to the girl in charge........not interested and told me the chef says its a chicken breast...Rude,ignorant and couldn't have cared less....never complained before in my life....my advice...go somewhere else !!!

The bar & entertainment is first class not to mention the Belfast Artisan Gin School experience

Recommend stopping here and the surrounding area. Lots of pubs and street art, plus a lively scene in the evening. Thirsty Goat is a great place. Recommend the Seafood Chowder and chicken wings.

Pub típico irlandés con buenas cervezas/sidras y comida de buena calidad y sabor con opciones para vegetarianos y veganos. Nosotros probamos la sopa del día que era de verduras y el Boxty para veganos… buenísimo. Muy satisfechos además con el servicio, las chiquillas fueron súper atentas.

Lovely place for drinks, and a great atmosphere. The bouncer on the door was lovely. The one inside the worst person I’ve met in my life, a bully who doesn’t like women. My daughter was ill, the bar staff snitched to him that she’d been sick in the toilets. Wouldn’t let us back in the bar, told us we’d have to go out the back, refused me to go back and get my bags and tell the rest of our party where we were. Shoved me in the face refusing me. The back entrance isn’t just round the back of the building, Impossible to find from the front. He’s happy to leave women to fend for themselves. Just one big angry bully of a horrible person. An abuser who has his karma on the way

A server or I'm guessing supervisor with brown hair was absolutely horrible to the floor staff and bartenders and it wasn't for me and I had to leave the bar as i and the group I was with felt very uncomfortable

Very disappointed. I was served by a very rude bartender. I was queuing at the bar and had been waiting my turn when another girl pushed through to the bar. The bartender looked to her to take the next order. I understand it can be difficult to track who is next to be served but possibly to ask may have been better. The girl beside who cut in gave her order but I waved to get the bar man's attentions to say that I was there first and had been getting impatient at this stage. I got the attention of the bartender and said "sorry but i was here before her" for the bartender to shrug his shoulders at me and say "do I look psychic". He then continued to make the other girls drink and ignore me. And to top it off I messaged them directly on Instagram to make a complaint and was ignored. What way is this this to run a business? Definitely very dissatisfied. I didn't by any drinks and left shortly after.

Poor service and wine and kitchen closes at 8pm!
