Stopped for lunch on Sunday and the table beside us that arrived after had dessert when we'd only just got our drinks. Think they'd forgotten us until we asked for the food after 45 mins waiting. It was quite cold and the roast beef was tough so wouldn't recommend for food. I'd previously been for drinks and it was a good atmosphere.

Abysmal experience on Belfast marathon day. Today like many thousands of people I ram a marathon for charity. So many decent bars rewarded runners with free drinks for the hard work. Not here. The bouncer just denied entry to us for wearing jogging bottoms! On marathon day! Incredibly out of touch, unnecessary snobbery and an insult to the work of many to raise money for causes. Shame on you

Just been rejected by pretentious bouncers for wearing smart tracksuit bottoms. Which ordinarily I might understand, but on a day when the city is celebrating Belfast marathon. Where other places are welcoming marathon runners, a bit of common sense is required on a day where the city is welcoming runners from a far. I obviously do not recommend this place

Very dated and quirky place. Maybe short staffed when we went there as the lady who served us seemed very rushed though there wasn't that many people in there. Toilets on the low level of cleanliness side need better lighting In there also as very dull. There was 8 of us which majority had the roast dinner which was a big let down for the price. £19.50 for a beef roast - 1 piece of beef that was very tough to chew and only 1 small roast potato also mash and gravy very salty . And to top it off added a service charge on top - was not impressed at all.

Outdated and sexist policies. Visited on a Saturday night. Had only just gone out was polite sober and told there would be a 25 minute wait at the door because the bar was bus, very fair it was Saturday. 5 minutes later the bouncer was letting in 7 women. This isn’t the 1980s any more and sexist policies like this should have gone years ago.

The Thirsty Goat in Belfast offers the ideal setting for a social evening. The atmosphere is lively, the guests are friendly and the live music creates a real pub atmosphere at a high level. The only downside: It was very full throughout and the waiting times at the bar were correspondingly long. However, those who have patience will be rewarded with an atmospheric experience in an authentic, musical pub. A recommended place for anyone who wants to experience Belfast beyond the classic sights.

MORE AT Google

The Thirsty Goat in Belfast is a pub that offers a charming experience for those looking to enjoy a casual drink and some food in the heart of the city. The atmosphere at The Thirsty Goat is relaxed, with a charming feel though not overwhelming. It offers a typical pub setting, with wooden furnishings and a cosy feel that draws you in. The lighting is warm, creating an inviting environment for friends or solo visitors. While it’s certainly not a dull space, there’s an element of simplicity that might leave some patrons looking for a bit more flair... then suddenly.. we looked at the wall on our left.. what's this? We can't believe our eyes, we blink in disbelief. We look to the wall to our right, can this be?.. we couldn’t believe our eyes. There it was, a picture of a goat in the most ridiculous pose. I blinked in disbelief. Was I seeing things? Surely, this was a coincidence. I turned to Kett. Was he seeing what I was seeing? Yes. More goats—this time, dressed up in silly outfits, caught mid-jump, or staring at the camera with their funny, almost knowing eyes. The entire wall was covered in these quirky, hilarious goat photos, each one more ridiculous than the last. It was like a hidden treasure trove of goat-themed humour, right there before our eyes. Suddenly, what felt like a simple, unassuming space transformed into something extraordinary. The food menu at The Thirsty Goat is limited, offering only a minimal selection. While the food is tasty, there isn't much variety and creativity that some might expect from a pub with a bit of flair. It's satisfying for those who want a quick and tasty meal with their pint (or two), but if you're looking for a more diverse or gourmet offering, you may leave feeling a little disappointed because it's a PUB, idiot. The staff here are friendly and approachable. It’s clear they try to keep things running smoothly, and for the most part, they succeed, even if they are a little stretched. There is a space next door to the restaurant where you can grab a drink at the lively bar and hear some acoustic music. The atmosphere was warm, fun, and inviting—perfect for a relaxed evening out. This place just keeps getting better! In addition to the fantastic drinks and live acoustic music, there’s a quirky little surprise: a taxidermy stuffed goat that adds a bit of character to the vibe. It really sets the tone for the whole spot. Honestly, I love the idea of adding more stuffed things! Why stop at a goat? They should lean into a stuffed theme—maybe stuffed olives, or even a stuffed menu! It would be such a fun touch to have a whole collection of these pieces throughout the space. It’s the kind of place where you never know what fun you’ll discover next. Look under your chair! Oh! What's that? A stuffed squirrel holding a cigar and a dram of whisky?! YES PLEASE. More stuffed things! However, I have to mention one little hiccup. The toilets are named after some different types of farmyard birds, which definitely threw us for a loop. None of us are farmers, so we spent a good minute trying to figure out which door to choose. In a dimly lit hallway, the stench of regret hit us like a suffocating wave. We hadn’t known—how could we have known—that this choice would seal our fate? The doors, each labelled with strange and foreign bird names—Pheasant, Hen, Goose—mocked us like a cruel riddle we were never meant to solve. And now, trapped in this place, we could only curse our ignorance, this test, we had failed. We should have studied. But honestly, it just added to the charm of the place! And no doubt it was a user error. Overall, it’s a wonderful spot. However, the menus are tacky. Verdict: The Thirsty Goat is a solid pub.

My advice to you is check your drinks BEFORE lifting from the bar. As the bar is extremely busy and cramped I passed drinks I had ordered back to a friend. Not a minute later whilst I was waiting on my change from paying, she handed them back to me saying they were only water! I'm not a person to cause a scene so I politely told the busy barman. He wasn't very helpful, so I again, politely requested the manager. He turned about without speaking and I waited a few minutes for the manager. His demeanor was very sharp and condescending, but to be fair, it was 3 deep or more at the bar, so he was more than likely under pressure. But his behaviour was totally unprofessional to the extent of being argumentative and down right rude. A few people commented this to me after the event, asking if I was okay. I just wanted the issue resolved without causing unwanted hassle. I have to admit the other staff members were lovely, perhaps Chris needs to take a leaf from their book on manners and customer care, for which he most certainly could avail from a refresher course As I was in tears by this man's actions I passed money to my friend to buy replacements. Unfortunately this marred a lovely evening out with friends and my stay in Belfast.

Then I asked can I do take away, and she said no. This was very arrogant and leave me with many questions. 1. Is Northern Ireland no good for solo travellers, or diplomats or solo students? 2. Is this restaurant racist? 3. If you have enough space why can’t you provide food for one person? 4. Is Northern Ireland safe to travel?

I went there yesterday (Sunday) and ordered a roast chicken. I waited for half an hour before my food arrived. It was one of the worst roast chicken I ever had. A Very tiny piece of chicken which was so tough and red in the middle. Two small pieces of roast potatoes that were so hard to break with your knife. It's a shame because I liked the place. Definitely not going back again.

We stayed in Belfast while touring Ireland and spent a night at the Thirsty Goat’s beer garden after dinner and had a great time! A lot of drink options, super nice waiters and the people we met there were super kind too!

Had a reservation for food on a Saturday evening for 9 people. Table was ready on arrival. Drinks order taken quickly, asked for water for the table, still waiting even though asked a 2nd time. Range of starters and mains ordered. The only starter that was half adequate were the chicken wings. Prawns were awful, tiny frozen shrimp and served look warm swimming in butter with pre sliced chorizo cut into quarters (the type you'd buy for homemade pizzas), supposed to be served with garlic and chilli sourdough but got a slice of toast, asked about this and the manager came back 10mins later saying the kitchen didn't know how to make it so they gave me cheese on toast. Caesar salad starter came with no chicken, croutons or dressing, was awful. Pickled onion rings were just normal onion rings but exceptionally greasy. On to the mains, the salmon was served with freezing broccoli and half cooked baby potatoes for all of us that ordered this so they were sent back. Chicken stack was ok, burger was like one of the frozen burgers you'd buy and throw in the oven. Service charge was added to the bill, probably normal but not advertised anywhere we could see. Overall an extremely poor experience.

It was raining so we couldn't make the most of the garden but food was nice and we got moved to a better table when one freed up. Water had cucumber in which is always a nice touch. A few good veggie choices and the juices were nice

Very good fish & chips, without too much frying and good fish. Their tartar sauce is very good, the fries average. Atmosphere and formal service.
