Good and attentive service, but the food was average.

It's very tasty. The fish and chips are a little expensive, but the quality of the food matches the price. I would go again.

Scampi I had & was frozen Asian prawns done in a lite batter.

Genuinely the best fish & chips I've had in years. Very friendly service. It was a bit quiet, but that's not expected for a Wednesday night in January!

Very disappointed with my experience in this restaurant, only came to eat as Fish City was supposed to be the number 1 fish and chips in the city, no flavor at all, I was expecting an exceptional dish as it was very pricey, very small portion and nothing special about the food, will never go back again

Fantastic masterclass on oysters! The owner John chatted with us and explained everything oysters plus a lot more about the marine environment, and how the business started - a lovely person and very interesting. The chef Nick then showed us how to shuck oysters safely and talked about flavours, taste etc. Totally recommend this experience, the oysters were amazing and the chat great!

Quick to be seated, waiter took order without writing it down, 2 cod, chips, peas, tartar sauce, one traditional christmas dinner, 2 coke, 1 fanta. We waited about 15 to 20 minutes, were served 3 cod and chips when told waiter we had ordered a christmas dinner we were told "sorry I will get that for you now" we waited another 15 minutes meaning by time the dinner arrived at the table the 2 who ordered the fish had all but finished their meals leaving the 3rd person twiddling their thumbs. Fish were small and greasy. Coke tastes like the cheaper versions or home brands bought from local supermarkets. I used to love going here for lunch but so disappointed especially as the fish and chips alone were just over £18. Don't think we will return.

Very unpleasant experience. Booked a table online and on arrival, despite the restaurant was empty, our table wasn't ready. Then, only one of the two starters we ordered came, and we had to wait a long time for the second one to come. Then, the waitress asked if we would like any dessert but he hadn't had our mains yet! Then finaly came the mains. The braised fish was good and well cooked but the seafood pasta was way to spicy (they had left the seeds of the chili and there was a lot of chili in there ( uneatable even for me who is used to eat very spicy). They re-cooked it without chili but they must have added some bacon or meat in it to give some flavor but without telling...very bad. The service was very disorganized, waiters running everywere resulting in a great lack of efficiency. And the prices are way to high for what you get in your plate. If I pay a such amount I expect exeptionnal food and good service. Would not go there again and would definetely not recommend.

The fish we ate certainly wasn't on a "seefood" diet. For the price we paid, we would have expected the portion size to be more than what we actually received. The atmosphere was ok. Overall we left feeling not over nor under but just whelmed.

Visited 05/01/2023 to eat in at lunch time, met by Barry as we entered who met our needs and sat us downstairs and obtained a high chair for our granddaughter who came with. Service was spot on and food came quickly and as you can see from the pictures well presented I loved the unlimited chips option with the fish n chips. I’d say the mushy peas portion that comes with is a tad small, luckily the eldest didn’t want hers so all good 👍🏽 but if your not so lucky I’d order some more to enjoy the meal more. The vegetarian Thai Green Curry was flavoursome and not too big a spicy kick 👌🏽🍛 also the portion is a great size and definitely fulfilling. One thing to add an international customer came later and sat nearby and Barry offered to get the menu translated, now that folks is another level of service I’ve certainly not experienced before and he was back in a flash with a tablet ready to translate, luckily the customers already used google translate and we’re away but this has stuck with me around a natural non forced way of service to a customer and for me absolute winner 🏆 I have been before but never during day, usually in evening so menu was smaller but loved Fish City and will continue to visit when over in Northern Ireland visiting family, highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lovely food, excellent service.

My wife had haddock and chips which she really liked. I had the xmas special. The green veg accompaniment was really good- very fresh and great taste. Turkey, gravy and other veg was tasty. Atmosphere is a little upmarket cafe but the staff were excellent. Will eat again if shopping nearby.

Fish city is not a cheap restaurant. Fish and chips costs 23 pounds after 5pm because that’s dinner and £16 before then because that’s lunch (not my menu or my rules). The quality may be worth it but 23 pounds is a lot for fish and chips. We went to the restaurant and arrived at 5:01 after some google fun. I waited to talk to someone for circa 3 mins because there was no one around and asked whether we were too late for the pre 5 deal. The restaurant is pretty much empty (most other restaurants are busy) so I am optimistic. The response was a very abrupt nope we have already started dinner and that is end of discussion. I am sure there is a restaurant perspective and they are free to post that but there is a customer perspective. There is cut off point and I get it but seriously think about your customer service at a few minutes past 5 when your restaurant is pretty much empty. My view is that this is poor service and that may be controversial. My perspective is that if this is the way you treat someone you are trying to woo as a customer then what does it look like after you have got me as a customer.

Well located restaurant (busy street). The setting of the restaurant is nice and has many tables (room upstairs). Concerning the rather good service, maybe the order taking is a little slow but I think it depends on the crowd. Regarding the food, we are on standard UK prices. The fish and chips are not bad, we have the option of choosing the fish. However for the price disappointed that the fries are industrial.

Indicate in most guides, it is located in the city center and open all afternoon (an advantage if you eat later) The portions are reasonable, the fish is good but if you like a lot of frying (or breading) I don't necessarily recommend it. The service is great, don’t hesitate to ask for other sauces such as tartare, ketchup or others!

I visited the restaurant today with my husband. We were shopping in town and wanted a quick bite before heading home. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The service was a bit slow. We were seated pretty quickly but waited about 10 mins to be served, the restaurant was fairly busy but by no means full. The food took about another 15-20 mins to arrive. We both had fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce all was delicious. The portions sizes were very small for the cost. Soft drinks were also expensive. Think it was nice but way over priced for the portion size.

We waited 20 minutes to order our food and were only able to do so after I went up to a waiter and asked them to come over so that we could place an order. Once the food arrived, we weren't given any cutlery, so I had to go up and ask for that as well. The food was OK, but the overall service was so bad that I probably wouldn't go back again.

Food was absolutely amazing, loved everything, so tasty and cooked perfectly, I had seafood linguine & hubby had muscles in white wine sauce, could not recommend this place enough

Nice food and pleasant service, however, the food is grossly overpriced and is served in extremely small portions, at almost £20 for small fish supper this restaurant is certainly not good value for money.

At £12 the fish and chips would have been OK but at £22 it should be very good, but it's not. Terrible service.

We started with the Japanese Trout (5 slices), calamari (normal, I guess), and BBQ-style prawns (5 prawns). While the food tasted nice, at £13.50 for the starter, it was definitely *not* value for money. We also ordered a bottle of house Sauvignon Blanc for £30 (which seemed excessive — it was probably an £8 bottle of wine at best). Then, we had three fish and chips — one haddock, two cod. I requested the batter to be lightly cooked, but the waiter said that wasn’t possible. This led me to believe that the fish was pre-battered and partially cooked, rather than being freshly prepared, as you'd expect for £23.50 per portion. When the fish and chips arrived, the portion size was less than half of what you'd get at a reputable fish and chip shop, The mushy peas were awful — just a tablespoon's worth in a ramekin (does anyone know how to cook mushy peas properly in Northern Ireland? They should be made with marrowfat peas, butter, salt, and pepper, then mashed until soft). I understand you have overheads being in the centre of Belfast, but you clearly don’t understand value for money. I won’t be coming back. ---

I like Sainsbury's it has a good range of gluten free options but it would be nice if it carried more ambient products like some other Sainsbury's.

The place to go for Fish & Chips in Belfast. Really fried nicely. The batter is so thin yet crispy. Holding the fish meat so well..The fish is fresh and juicy. Nicely cooked fries as. The tatar sauce with the mushy pea combo is tasty. I recommend eating this with vinegar. Good ol' way of eating this dish.

Over priced, it's just not value for money. When a restaurant charges £9.65 for a local beer that costs £2.50 retail, walk away.

En realidad, esposa y yo estábamos aquí para almorzar y cenar. Ambos productos alimenticios increíblemente frescos y bien preparados. Lo que me llamó la atención de este restaurante fueron las ostras. Traídas frescas todos los días y después de verlas servidas, rápidamente coincidieron en que estaban frescas, llenas de salmuera y muy sabrosas! Estamos expulsados de las ostras del noroeste del Pacífico y estas ostras irlandesas no decepcionaron. Sopa de mariscos y una copa de vino acompañaban a las ostras. Simplemente tuve que probar el pescado con patatas fritas para nuestra cena y de nuevo, simplemente una gran comida. El restaurante estaba lleno para la cena y los servidores parecían mantenerse al día con el ritmo. Bastante interesante otros críticos han declarado que los precios eran altos. Los restauradores han pasado por el Covid, la inflación mundial, y los jóvenes no quieren trabajar. Hemos visto muchos de nuestros restaurantes favoritos fracasar, lo que es realmente triste, así que personalmente estamos bastante bien con pagar un poco más por experiencias maravillosas. ¡Lo único triste es que no estás en nuestra ciudad! We went to try the fish & chips because the guide told us that it was the best he had ever tried and good, very expensive and quite average. £22 for a plate of fish and chips, a pot of tartar sauce and a pot of crushed peas, well... you feel a little ripped off. Nothing out of this world, if you have the opportunity to go to Galway, at McDonagh's for half the price you can choose the type of fish from a few and the potatoes are incredible. Quite overrated, yes, the place is decorated with very good taste and the waiters are very attentive.

Warning!! - Visited here and had a good meal but they charged us twice on the credit card. They said they said the first one did not go through and they needed me to do it again. I asked to make sure the first was not charged and he said it wasn’t and I had to do it again. Got home and looked it up and they did charge us twice. So be on the lookout for them to do this to you if you go there.

Fabulous food. The staff are fabulous and Grainne chatted for ages which made us feel very welcome. 10 /10 all round.

A truly excellent local fish restaurant, we ate delicious fish and chips and it was possible to choose two different cooking methods, one softer and one crunchy; we chose the really excellent crunchy one! And the mussels with a white wine cream recipe are also excellent! If you want to eat some typical fish recipes, stop by here

This is by far the worst seafood platter we have ever had. For a price of £56.95 we were cheated with a soggy platter of 1sad oil drenched crab, 4 PCs of what looked liked fish fingers, 4 PCs of prawns and 6 pcs of squid rings that were thin and soaked in oil. The servers mainly students (bless them) did not know the menu or components of the dish. While they were kind, the price of the menu is absolutely overpriced for the food received. We read Mark Anderson's review while writing this review and completely agree on the food quality, it is really bad and such food should be serviced or even given as free food. We wish we had read his review before deciding to dine here. Please avoid this place as a plague. Seriously it is not worth your time or money and please don't think of planning your special day at this place.

The restaurant is in the heart of the city. The dishes were freshly prepared. The prices are very high compared to other competitors (which we also visited) and the portions are significantly smaller. We probably wouldn't come back, even if the food tasted good.

I ordered the fish and chips (cod). The piece was small, the picture show is with only two small cuts from the top. But small was fine because it was terrible... unlike many of the other photos here... something has gone terribly wrong... it was soggy thin batter, the fish was dry and the chips had no color or flavor of anything except cardboard, dry and tasteless. Sadly, that was not the worst of it, the waitress asked if anything was wrong as I didn't touch my food and I repeated the above, she said they don't do flavored chips... she clearly didn't understand the point that the chips were like cardboard and had no potato or salt flavor, just nothing but dry cardboard... then the owner came over and started telling us that I don't know what I am talking about that she has the very best fish and chips in the UK. That her two year old award... somehow proved that... maybe they used better fish, better batter and better staff two years ago... she was delusional, rude and arrogant. I didn't even ask for a discount but she made sure to tell me I wasn't getting one cause she knows her food is the best... I say... good luck to this place... awards are only as good as your consistency and you should wake up and realize you haven't won one in a while, so something is clearly wrong!

We went to Fish City on Saturday night and we were blown away by the food, ambience and overall experience! The menu offering was superb and we will be back soon to work our way through it. This restaurant definitely offers value for money and I will be recommending it to all of my family and friends.

I’m a regular at Fish City .. always amazing food & good service .. unfortunately this time it was a rather disappointing experience.. the starters were extremely oily & over salted… mains not the usual… very slow service, very unusual for them, the place wasn’t busy..

Tonight was the worse experience I ever had in a restaurant. Usually I don't leave reviews but this one needs to be told. From the fact that if you order the teriyaki prowns they will send you literally 5 prowns in a plate, to the fact that they muddled up my salad bringing me some raw (and I mean RAW) seasonal vegetables. The cherry on the cake was that my night was ruined by the pretty waitress that knocked a candle off the table beside and it landed all over my favourite jeans which now are for the bin, and I had to go home because I couldn't continue my night with my waxy trousers. The waitress didn't even say sorry, I had to complain to another waitress to get an apology. We paid full price so I didn't complain to have a discount. Which I still didn't get. To never come back to this place ever in my entire life.

Called in whilst in Belfast on business, did not have a reservation yet was given excellent service, a nice beer outside in the brilliant sunshine then inside for supper. Prawns to start were good and the seafood linguine main was very good indeed; packed with fish, just the right level of chilli, a lovely creamy sauce and piping hot as I prefer. Definitely recommended!

Nice restaurant with a large selection of seafood and fish, all freshly prepared and very tasty. The price isn't quite as cheap as a "chip shop" but it's definitely worth the money. We will come back 👍

Nice seafood restaurant with a maritime ambience. Fast and kind service, one of the best (maybe best) fish and chips I've ever ate. Plus, take the calamari or onion rings as a starter/side dish, it's amazing.

Food was good. Peas were a bit crunchy, chips were pretty good and curry sauce was good. I think they could offer a better vegetarian option like battered halloumi instead of fish or Even just peas, chips and curry sauce as a main, offering a curry is something I might expect a pub to do but a fish replacement would keep it more on brand.

I’ve eaten here on multiple occasions. Some thoughts: Fish & chips - truly great. Tasty, pricey but worth it. Seafood pasta - arguably the best dish on the menu. Starters - mostly good but way too expensive. 12+ for most starters is too much. Wine - very well priced and a good selection. Always go for the “premium” given it’s not much more expensive really. My main gripes: - too varied cuisine attempt - you try to be Italian, French, Indian, British and a bunch of other cuisines. Focus on a few and let others go. - Your pesto is not pesto. Too much vinegar, too little of everything else. Check the classic recipe, it doesn’t need “improving”. - hinted on before - price of food. This restaurant needs to be 12-20% cheaper.

Was nice, but absolutely overpriced for the size and quality they serve. Staff were lovely but a little un-attentive (restaurant was not busy). WC was unkept and the floor had water everywhere, there is also just the one stall for the whole restaurant, so there is an ongoing queue. I enjoyed the meal but I would not repeat or recommend this place.

Nice enough fish and chips but way, way overpriced and portions are what I can only describe as child size. The fish and chips were nicely presented, however I can only conclude as a central Belfast restaurant this place is meant for tourists who know no better, on this occasion bring new to Belfast and hungry (at the time) I fell foul of the fancy restaurant facade and ‘award winning’ signage. So if you aren’t very hungry and don’t mind paying £60 for two fish and chips (with a bottle of sparking water and two slices of bread and butter at additional cost) then this place might be for you. The service was good and there was no attempt to inappropriately secure a large gratuity as other reviews suggest.

An unbelievable experience: after the waiter wanted to serve the wrong menu (seafood for two people) and I refused, I waited in vain for the food I ordered for an hour. Then I wanted to pay for the starter and asked why I wasn't served anymore. The waiter's answer was: the kitchen ordered it that way. I was extremely disappointed and could hardly believe it.

I had the award winning fish and chips, and they were excellent. The staff were attentive and polite. However, I think the price for a meal which can be found cheaper elsewhere was too much for quite a modest portion.

For good seafood in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, Fish city is the place to go to. There's a variety on the menu & the food is so good it would make you want to order everything on the menu. Even the ice cream was delicious although i would have loved it if the dishes were bigger. The service from the waiters i got was excellent 👍🏻 They are probably the friendliest in the whole of Belfast. I would definitely be going back here again 😊

The male waiters were very professional. The ambience outside was pleasant. My fish was OK but my mother ordered the mussels and they were dreadful. A lot of them were closed and quite a few shells were empty. Lady waitress argued that it was one of those things and refused to entertain even a small discount. In fact she slammed the bill down on the table after I told the lovely waiter Sky about our dissatisfaction without a word, before returning to take payment. If you don't want to work in a restaurant, find a different career path. All in all, not worth the money or the grief. There are plenty of other fish restaurants in Belfast and they know how to treat customers.

The quality didn't live up to the price, especially compared to typical pub food. The fish of the fish and chips was dry, and the seafood chowder was disappointing— the fish was overcooked, and the cream lacked flavor. However, the Sticky Toffee Pudding was a highlight, with plenty of rich caramel.

I come here every year when I visit Belfast. The restaurant is lovely, staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is fresh and tasty. Absolutely love coming here. Had another delicious dinner this evening. Looking forward to next time 🍤🦪🍟❤️

A Fish and Chip Lover's Dream I recently had the absolute pleasure of indulging in a truly exceptional fish and chip experience. The fish was cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside, flaky and moist on the inside. The chips were golden, fluffy on the inside, and boasted that perfect balance of saltiness. It was a classic dish elevated to new heights. To top it off, the service was outstanding. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in.

too expensive, portions are offensively small for the price, fries were ok but the fish was below average, the restaurant was empty and the boss lady made us change tables because the table had 4 chairs even though all tables are the same size... she could just take 2 chairs but noo 😂 as the picture i uploaded the place is empty why make us change tables? the tall guy waiter was very professional and the only postive i can give for this place, cheers buddy

We wanted to eat fish as soon as we set foot in Belfast, it wasn't bad at all I must say! Food: fantastic, nothing to complain about. The mussels with that cream were heavenly 😋 and all the fish 🐟 served felt fresh and of excellent quality 🔝 The menu offers many dishes and should be able to please everyone. Service: this is also excellent. All the waiters and waitresses were smiling and helpful. Ambience: Really nice atmosphere. The ground floor was perhaps my favourite. Going up the stairs you find yourself in a white room, the one I liked least, with other tables and flags 🚩 attached to the ceiling, and continuing there is the room where we ate which is quite nice. It has decorations, quotes 💡 and various decorations on the walls. Price 💶: We took a central plate of mussels, a fish & chips and a scampi fish & chips, and to drink two beers 🍻 and a sambuca. We spent €90. The prices are certainly not low. Definitely recommend it if you are in Belfast.
