After reading some of the great reviews I thought I'd book a table here with 5 other friends. One of which is actually from Thailand so was really interested to see her reaction to the food. She said is was very authentic and was so impressed by the flavours. I also thought it was outstanding. I mentioned to the staff I wasn't overly keen on too much heat in my food and they quickly gave me some recommendations to try and they did not disappoint. We will all definitely be back very soon and I'm looking forward to trying more things from their menu.Overall we had a brilliant experience and cant recommend it enough.

Called in on the chance they had space for a table, which looked promising considering there were several tables available and only three tables occupied. To then be told by the member of staff that “he didn’t feel he could cope with waiting on another table tonight”. Place looked nice and food sounded lovely, so disappointing to say the least one extra table couldn’t have been accommodated

We ate here on the first night of a recent holiday in Falmouth and...wow! Its a lovely little venue - relaxed and modern, with service that never rushes you. The food was exceptional - we had starters of tempura veg, prawn toast and dumplings, all of which were lovely, and mains of sweet/sour salmon (perfectly cooked fish) and chicken red curry (with the most amazing, deeply flavoured sauce. Definitely somewhere we'd like to visit again!

Thai Food at its very finest. As a Londoner I enjoy some of the worlds best restaurants and cooking. However the Thai Orchid is one of my most beloved restaurants for whenever I am in Cornwall. The standard of the food is spectacular. The service and kindness of the manager Becky is second to none and the restaurant has beautiful atmosphere, covered in candles and lanterns, plants and elephants. There is a secret little cave at the back which is a perfect space for an intimate romantic evening, or family do / small party - which fits up to 7.I have also hosted friends whilst staying in falmouth and ordered large take aways. It’s fair to say my guests have always been blown away by the quality of the food. I couldn’t recommend more.Keep up the fantastic work Thai Orchid Team

First restaurant visit during our holiday in Cornwall. This place was highly recommended and the food didn’t disappoint. However, for a our first evening after a full day of travelling, the last thing we wanted was slow service. This is the reason that a 3 out of 5 was given. We were waiting over an hour for starters and then longer between starters and main. Would return for the food and hopefully quicker service.

We had booked a table only to turn up to find the restaurant closed and a note to say the whole team were in self isolation. I understand you can’t always plan for these things but we gave our phone number when booking a table for a reason - a simple phone call or text to let us know would have been appreciated. Instead we were left hungry with no booking at 7.30 on a very busy night in Falmouth… took us a while to eventually find somewhere that could cater us. Please do inform people next time.

Terrible experience, service was awful, having to ask 3 times for cutlery, drinks that never came after asking multiple times, we waited 10mins for a dish to arrive only to be told that it was a double portion that was already on the table. Then there's the SMELL, an extremely strong sewage smell overcame our table, not the best environment to enjoy a meal. Every restaurant gets things wrong sometimes, I understand and accept that, but what's not acceptable is the indifference and lack of professionalism from the manager, an Irish girl that couldn't care less about our complaints, we had to cut our family meal short and leave, we wont be going back.

Amazing food, decor & ambience. Best Thai had in ages. However, the service & toilets all led to a less than happy experience. Other than one cheerful Irish girl, who we assumed was the manager, the rest of the service left a lot to be desired. Drinks took ages and ordering food seemed to take less priority than staff chatting at the bar. Peple that arrived after us had crackers and drinks, whilst we had nothing. Everything had to be asked for twice. We wanted to make sure that we got home OK, as not staying in Falmouth, so asked for a taxi to be ordered when we got our mains Although confirmed by various staff, it never turned up and we ended up ordering our own around 11pm after waiting outside the restaurant for over 30 mins. Mixed messages from staff about time ordered too. There also seemed to be an issue with paying the bill...couldn't use contactless or chip & pin, so had to use an app. The toilets were dirty and used paper towels piled up in an overflowing bin. Three stars are for the food, but as this restaurant has had such good reviews overall, we were very disappointed in the overall service.

Absolutely cannot fault the delicious food and hardworking staff in Thai Orchid. Food was really tasty and great ambience. However, sadly a long wait between starter and main courses (45 mins) and 3 attempts before new drinks arrived. This is no criticism of the staff who were all working incredibly hard and were all lovely and we happily paid service charge However, it just felt like too many tables and too many separate services plus take away for them to cope. Realise staffing is a massive issue right now, just feel it would be kinder to both staff and customers to reduce covers to match staffing. The wait sadly took the shine off the experience a little but the food was v nice when it arrived.

We had a reservation for 7pm and arrived 5-10 mins late. We waited for a couple of minutes at the door to hear an Irish lady saying very loudly to another member of staff ‘they were late so we gave their table if you can and tell them they can wait’. The other member off staff looked up to relay this info to which we told them we already heard as we were standing right there anyway. We were then put on a table in the window and few minutes later decided to leave as the Irish lady continued to boss staff around at the top of her voice. This would have been anything but a relaxing experience. Such a shame as it looked lovely and we were really looking forward to it.

I would recommend Thai Orchid over and over again. So authentic and food had an amazing depth of flavour. We would particularly recommend the starter or ribs and prawn soup, and for main courses, the massaman curry and smoked yellow curry. Absolutely outstanding! Our only criticism would be for the curries to have some more meat, as this was lacking slightly. Service was very attentive and friendly, however our main courses were brought out in a bit of a weird order, meaning some rice dishes or curries were left going cold whilst we waited for the remainder of the meal to arrive. Overall, a fantastic evening and we can’t wait to go back!

Just had a take away from Thai orchid. We had a very underwhelming experience considering we spent £40, it was definitely not worth this price. I am Thai myself and felt the food quality was bad. When I rung the manager regarding my complaints I was put in contact with a patronising manager who Told me it was my fault for ordering the wrong items. Despite this she did offer to send up some items which would better suit what I was after, two different meals to be exact and one extra however these were all as underwhelming as the meal we had ordered. The prawns in batter had minimal taste and a bad texture and the beef was fatty and flavourless. I wasn’t offered a refund once, such a shame. I was told this place was great but after reading the previous reviews it seems the restaurant has changed hands...

A group of us went here recently, my first time in a while and my first time since, as I understand it, the restaurant has been under new ownership. My tom yam gung starter was very nice but the sweet & sour chicken main course, which, incidentally, came about forty five minutes after the soup, was very bland. Another of my group said that his chicken Penang curry was bland too. When asked by the waitress how the meal had been, I was told in a rather dismissive manner that I should have asked them to cook another. With the prospect of another long wait, I'm hardly likely to do that! And besides, shouldn't they get it right first time? There was also an unpleasant smell of drains. I'd recommend Ploy Thai at the other end of town. Much nicer!

We have been eating here every Easter for many years and the service, food quality and atmosphere have always been first class. New owners have apparently taken over and the experience was so poor and so disappointing. We arrived at 7.15, were greeted and seated pleasantly. We ordered drinks, spring roll starters and main meals. After 45 minutes the waiter informed us that spring rolls were off the menu. We ordered alternative starters of prawn tempura and a similar vegan dish - these arrived 15 minutes later and were of good quality. At 8.30 the waiter told us he had forgotten to write down which meat one of our party had ordered with their main meal. Consequently, we received our main course at 9.15, TWO hours after we arrived. No apology by the waiter for the delay. My meal was very bland and my wife could barely recognise her meat as duck. Two vegan meals contained tofu which was nothing like anything they had ever experienced before. After paying, we spoke to the manager who appeared completely indifferent to our disappointment with the meal. Her only comment was that we should have complained during the meal and that they were all working very hard! Our overall feeling was one of disappointment that such a wonderful restaurant had deteriorated so badly. Having read recent reviews it seems to me that people who visited the restaurant before the new owners took over were generally disappointed with the change in ownership.

Wishing the new owners well but unfortunately the food has changed a bit too much and has lost the 5* it used to taste like. Satay not that ‘peanutty’, main courses a bit too dry missing about 75% of the usual sauces/gravies. Used to be amazing and now it’s absolutely fine but not outstanding in my opinion. On the plus side the food has a fresher taste without so much oil, so hoping the overall dryness is just down to settling in and tweaking the recipes. Excellent welcome from the front of house team, and looking forward to online ordering and coming again although its a bit too bright now in the newly refurbished restaurant. Perhaps we just need to eat lots more of it to adjust our palates and we definitely will.

We booked for 6.30 so that we could eat early. We arrived at 6.15 and were met by amazing staff and shown to our table. Drinks were quickly followed by starters which were pretty good. That’s where the good experience ends unfortunately. An hour passed before we asked when to expect our mains to be told they would be next out of the kitchen. 15 minutes later and still waiting, we asked to get them as take out as we were beyond eating at this point. We still waited 20 minutes or so to get our take out and paid and left over 2 hours after setting foot in the restaurant! The mains were small, pretty bland and tasteless, which was very disappointing as it was our first time out in months! We love Thai food but the mains were not authentic Thai and lacked the depth of flavour you expect and love. Unfortunately the excessive wait and lack of flavour really wasn’t worth the visit which is a real shame for Cornwall’s oldest and original Thai restaurant

We visited for my 28th birthday whilst staying in Falmouth. We’d wandered past the restaurant when we arrived and managed to book over the phone. The member of staff on the phone was very helpful and they reserved us a window table when I told them it was a special occasion. When we visited, the service was excellent. The female waitress was very friendly and helpful, seating us and taking our order. She was very efficient and worked hard all evening. The young male waiter (who my boyfriend was convinced looked like someone famous) was also really good. He recommended the Panang curry, which I really enjoyed. We had starters of tempura prawns and little chicken pastry parcels (which were suggested as they were out of dim sum). All the food was to a really high standard and well presented. We had a bottle of Zinfandel, which was lovely and sweet, and we also managed a couple of mini bottles of Prosecco. The meal was very reasonably priced for everything that we had. We left an optional cash tip because we enjoyed the evening so much. Thank you Thai Orchid! If we come back to Falmouth, you’ve earned yourselves some returning customers!

So I had to make myself a trip advisor account just for this restaurant! After having a rude encounter with a restaurant a couple of nights ago and loosing our booking due to new COVID rules, the Thai Orchid was a breath of fresh air. Friendly and attentive staff who made us feel like the only customers in the restaurant despite it being a clearly busy night for them.We were greeted with a smile... although under masks was instantly welcoming and the the charming demeanour of the front of house manager made us feel right at home. The service was fast, sharp and everything you’d expect from a michelin star establishment, and the food that followed kept to the same high standards! The mixed starter for two was brilliant, if not a little too filling and out main courses were cooked to absolute perfection! We love spice and we’re hit with flavour and tongue tingles that I think surpass most food I’ve actually had in Thailand. If you want pure perfection with a smile, The Thai Orchid is your restaurant.Londonfoodie in Falmouth

Didn’t realise the Thai Orchid had changed hands, and along with that - cuisine. There’s a strange, misplaced fusion of cuisines. The Massaman was far more like a satay and like another reviewer has mentioned, the runner beans are a favoured ingredient. The spring rolls are more of a mayo-free coleslaw wrapped in wantonly greasy rice paper. Nowhere close to the original, superior, Thai Orchid.

We always visit this restaurant on our annual visit to Falmouth and had not realised that it had changed hands recently before our visit last week. The staff are enthusiastic, but there’s still a bit of a way to go until they get to the 5 star we used to know and love. Our starters were average, we had a range for the table, some nicer than others, spring rolls were quite bland. The accompanying dipping sauces were thick and bland with a ton of chillies thrown on top. Pouring sweet chilli from a bottle of blue dragon would have been more preferable! This seemed to be a theme for the night as our mains followed suit. Fairly bland, but with heaps of chilli! We were warned by the waiter the ‘crying tiger’ dish was extremely spicy, but this was actually the mildest dish on the table! The waiter told us the food was cooked fresh in an authentic Thai style, but having visited numerous areas of Thailand I would have to say I disagree. Thai food is fresh, delicate and fragrant. The food we were served was not. It was edible, but not amazing. A spice chart on the menu would help people with their choices, or waiters asking how spicy when taking orders. We decided to have deserts to cool our mouths! The waiter told us there was no set dessert menu as the chef prepares the desserts depending on what they feel like making on the day. We opted for banana fritters which again were ok. Tasty enough, but not much thought into presentation or any ice cream or anything served with it. And my partner had a coconut ice cream served with chocolate sauce, which was actually melted chocolate rather than a sauce so as soon as it was scraped onto the ice cream it reset and was hard chocolate again. The chef could do with creating a set dessert menu and really perfecting those dishes. Hopefully the team can keep working on the menu and perfecting the flavour balances. I’d love to see them succeed as the staff were really very friendly and positive and it is such a lovely little restaurant with great atmosphere and decor.

We managed to book a table which seems to be something quite difficult at this popular gem of a restaurant in Falmouth. Immediately we were made to feel welcome upon arriving and the food was just sublime! A spice sensation, highly recommended!

We finally visited Cornwall's first and oldest Thai restaurant, after being unable to book during previous holidays. Please see the below points listed sequentially. 1. No hand sanitiser at the door entrance. It wasn't made clear on arrival where the hand sanitiser was.2. Spare ribs came out cold. Upon feedback the manageress said the spare ribs were cooked earlier in day, but they forgot to warm them up. 3. The other starter dishes weren't piping hot and the spring rolls lacked flavour. 4. The waiter said the satay sauce was home made, but they must have forgot the peanut butter element as it was bland and didn't taste like the satay sauce we know and love. 5. There was a 45 minute wait between starter and main course, which was very long. 6. The Pad Thai noodle dish lacked flavour (no peanut taste) and noodles were clumped together. 7. The Sweet and Sour chicken dish had an almighty strong spicy kick that hit the back of the throat. There was far to much chilli for sweet and sour and other than the chilli the taste was bland and watery. 8. The beef in black been sauce dish had three times as many French beans than Beef. Also it didn't taste freshly cooked. 9. The manageress kept on addressing the customers as love and darling, which comes across as over familiar. In summary I've been to many Thai restaurants across the UK and abroad and this was the worst culinary experience out of all them. The waiter asked if we enjoyed the food and I did give constructive feed back. In response, we were told that their Thai food is based on a specific region of Thailand and their food is authentic. All I can say is that the population of this region of Thailand must be eating bland flavourless food as this was not authentic and nothing like any other Thai restaurant I've been too, and I've been too many. The manageress did offer to re cook the Pad Thai noodles, but at this stage all we wanted was the bill. I was pleasant with my feedback as I believe it's important for new business ventures to learn from mistakes and succeed (the new owners took over the restaurant earlier in the year), however following my feedback the manageress slammed the bill on the table, which wasn't pleasant. We won't be visiting again. If you love Thai food, then avoid!

Maybe due to the COVID restrictions and a reduction in seating we were unable to book a table for our preferred time so opted for a take away. We went for one of the set menu options for two people and was amazed at the quantity and quality of the dishes. My wife has a moderate appetite and I would say I have a healthy appetite but there was definitely enough food for three! There was enough rice and main courses left over for another meal the next day.The only down side (but only for my wife who doesn’t like things extremely spicy) was the excessive heat in the curry based dishes. I am sure that the restaurant would oblige if you requested your dishes to be made with a bit less heat.On previous visits to Falmouth we have eaten in the restaurant and always found it to be lovely with friendly attentive staff and it seemed to have the same atmosphere while I was in the premises to collect my order.

This was my favourite place to eat in Falmouth and I could not wait to come back. The staff were very enthusiastic and friendly but the service was a little bit fragmented. The food in my opinion is not Thai food. I applaud the choice to source locally and remove MSG but some of the dishes were a bit bland. On a positive note the prawn toast and the pork ribs were nice.

A rather disappointing experience at the Thai orchid. The mixed starter we ordered was good and the ribs were the highlight of the meal but unfortunately the positive stops here. We ordered a panang chicken, gung krattem (prawn stir fry) and moo pad Karpow (spicy pork stir fry). On ordering, we were warned that the pork stir fry was quite spicy which was fine with us.The panang had nothing to do with any of the dish we love and had so many times in Thailand and various restaurants across the UK. Instead, it was a very blend and overly creamy. Both the stir fry dishes were just mouthful of salt and very unpleasant with no hint of chilli in the pork one! On mentioning the issue, We were offered to add chilli to the dish.Despite the best efforts from the host, it is not a place we would go back to as there are so many other great places in Falmouth to choose from.

This is a very pretty little restaurant and the young (European) couple running it are charming, enthusiastic and very hard working. The Thai cuisine they serve is very different from the Thai food I have eaten in different parts of Thailand and in all of the Thai restaurants I have visited in this country. I can only assume that they are pioneering some local cuisine from a little known region of Thailand, possibly a region that borders on Ireland. I wish them well but suggest they attempt more conventional Thai food - it's much better.

My partner and I had a wonderful meal here. The young host and hostess were both so welcoming and friendly with efficient, top notch service. The food was absolutely delicious and packed full of flavour and the decor of the restaurant itself was beautiful with such a lovely atmosphere. The quality of the food for the price was brilliant value and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I hope we can be back here again soon!

Proprietor Becky is a star! She made us feel immediately welcome with sunny energy. She addressed me by name throughout which was a really nice touch. The restaurant is cozy with very nice decor. We had the fish cakes for starters. and a tofu and vegetable dish. I usually avoid tofu but the recipe here is really interesting and more-ish. Big portions too, at a very reasonable price. We shall certainly return. Thoroughly recommended.

We have been great fans of the Thai orchid and looked forward to the reopening however the food was very disappointing. Chicken satay was plain chicken and not marinated . Curry’s were bland and flavourless. We won’t be back.

I've visited the Thai Orchid a few times over the years and have always had a lovely experience there. That being said, they've definitely upped their game since the change in management with even more delicious food and wonderful service. In particular, I would absolutely recommend the wonderfully fresh sea bass and the coconut rice as it was beautifully fragrant. It is also worth noting that the restaurant has retained their best staff, as any previous customer will recognise upon returning - thank you for always being so friendly and accommodating! It can often be a disappointing experience to return to a favourite restaurant after a change in management and a refurbishment, but Thai Orchid is the exception to that rule. I'm looking forward to returning soon and would whole-heartedly recommend it to both newcomers and old customers!

Thai orchid was always our go to thai takeaway, we have just tried again today not realising it was under new management. Extremely disappointed!!! Probably the worst takeaway we have ever had. Food was inedible. The rice tasted very salty and was just a big lump, penang curry had no flavour and the spring rolls were empty!the tom yum soup had some flavour but way to much coconut milk. Cant believe the best thai in falmouth has gone!!! Fair to say we wont be going back.

I have been going to Thai orchid for years and have tried other Thai restaurants and Thai Orchid have always been the best! Used to have such tender meat. I was so excited to get it For the first time since lockdown and even drove 20 minutes from our home to get a take away. I had sweet and sour chicken which was so tangy and the chicken flavourless and not tender. My partner had his usual Which is usually spicy and again was bland. Very gutted as it used to be amazing ! Won’t be returning.

Ordered take away from here last night. Food was ok- green curry tasted good but the coconut rice didn’t taste at all of coconut.Unfortunately the restaurant itself smelt very much of urine. Similar to a gents toilet. I know it was not my nose playing tricks on me as the gentleman behind asked me what the smell was. The restaurant was full but the smell was mainly in the front section. Off putting! Hopefully just a temporary issue!

The atmosphere was very emersive. There were tapestries on the walls and candles lighting the space. The food was very tasty and not spicy, but you can ask for it to be spicy. The service was quick. Can be quite busy, so it's better to book a table.

We pitched up on spec without booking and it was very busy, but they took our number and said they would try and move things around and fit us in. Sure enough about 30 mins later we got a call and we weren’t disappointed. The food was exceptional and the staff really friendly... just avoid the house red wine which was very fruity indeed! The salmon dish I had was probably the best Thai dish I have ever eaten.. fantastic!Would have been 5 stars but for the wine...

My husband and I love Thai food and were delighted to find this wonderful little tucked away place in Falmouth on a recent holiday. The staff (especially the cheerful hostess at the door) were lovely. We tried first as a walk in but they were full so booked for the following evening. It was August and we were advised they fully book nearly every night so booking in advance is a must. We were greeted with smiles when we arrived for our table and given a special spot by the window which we loved. The food is excellent, the ambience is lovely, the staff are great. Highly recommend this place and hope to visit again soon!
