The Thai Bar & Restaurant in Glasgow City

First visit to The Thai and we will definitely be back! The food was excellent, really fresh and fragrant and all home cooked. I had the larp salad and it was the best I’ve tasted, my partner had the pad Thai with king prawns which he thought was really flavoursome. We started with thai fish cakes and prawn wontons, both delicious and very generous portions. Service was friendly and very welcoming and the space was light and airy. Highly recommended!

Lovely chicken wings, satay, curries and dessert. Casual, comfortable surroundings and good service. We will be back!

Just a bit nippy! The food was excellent but unfortunately just a bit too spicy for us which is a shame as I thought we eat alot of spicy food! Flavour was lovely and service excellent. We had Penang and Thai Red currys.

Tucked away in a lovely location, this is an absolutely wonderful restaurant with great, friendly staff and - the headline - the food is absolutely tremendous. I absolutely love Thai food, it's the best in the world (in my opinion) and finding and keeping a good restaurant hasn't always been easy in/around Glasgow. This place is among the very best, if not actually the best, and the food is up there with the food I ate in Thailand, it is that good. It's authentic, it's delicious and, if you want it to be, it's gloriously spicy but in that way that only Thai food can really be, with the tongue-tantalising array of perfectly balanced spices, sweet, sour and tart. A festival of flavour and a place I will be visiting as often as I can possibly justify it. Across the three of us we had the Chicken Panang (amazing), the Red Chicken Curry (not normally one of my favourites but it was glorious) and the Pad Kra Pao (father in law grudingly left a sliver for me to taste and it was absolutely superb and 100% what I'll be having next time). If you like Thai food, make sure you get along and try. If you don't like Thai food - try it anyway, it's THAT good. If you're not sure - go try it anyway, hopefully you'll be delighted. Tremendous.

The food from here is sensational, so much so some of the food from the menu would feature on my death row last supper. Visited 15th March 2024 (3 of us) and we are all fussy eaters, and couldn’t fault the place in fact possibly my favourite meal at any restaurant in the last 5 years. Without highlighting some of the menu come and try it, it’s unfair to mention just one thing as everything we ate was spectacular but if fan of cheesecake, try the burnt cheesecake. OMG! Words can justify, must try!

Went here for a little girly lunch. The food was incredible. We got the Wutons, spring rolls and chicken satay to share. Wow all were delicious 😋 Penang curry was recommended by our lovely server. Which didnt dissapoint. Sorry I dont remember her name, she was from Bangkok and she was telling us about places to visit when we are going in the summer. Can't wait to return

We enjoyed a delicious meal and great service - crispy wonton and the best thai fishcakes I've tasted were our starters and we had chicken penang and sweet and sour chicken for mains. Honestly the food is incredible and so authentic! So thankful to have discovered this Southside gem. I had the larb gai and panang and I’d highly recommend both. Especially loved that they catered for my need for spice and truly delivered on Thai hot! Will be back!

Amazing restaurant with world-class Thai food and great service

When you live in Shawlands there is every cuisine you can think of if you wish to go for a nice sit in meal, apart from an authentic Thai place. Look no further than here. The food was absolutely outstanding, from starters, mains, desert and even the drinks available. Only criticism was the service as they were clearly short staffed, but even though that was the case, we were made to feel most welcome by everyone working there. I imagine when fully staffed, everything is a 5/5. We will definitely be back again!

Fantastic, authentic food. The fish cakes were the best I've had in Glasgow, and the pad kra paow was so good - spicy and full of flavour. Well recommended, we'll be back. The chef was also very friendly and really appreciated how much we enjoyed it.

Me and my friends came in for something to eat and the owner Robert was so accommodating and polite. He explained the menu to us perfectly and we were delighted with our choices. We ordered many things from the menu and not one of the dishes disappointed. 10/10. Will definitely be back again.

We were going to the Rock Choir charity concert in St Margaret of Scotland Church on evening of Fri.15th Dec & drove early to the area which was unfamiliar to us, to find a parking spot. Walked back along Kilmarnock Rd to look for an eatery. The 1st , we came to was The Thai & what a find it was.! We both had chicken pad Thai curry which was fantastic, having the most delicious flavours. We did not have room for desserts but had coffees & mints to follow. The staff were absolutely delightful & so obliging. Anyone looking for a 1st class meal should try The Thai (knot! to be missed)

We travelled a 100-mile round trip to dine here after reading good reviews and boy we weren't disappointed..From the moment we arrived , we were made to feel very welcome . A gentleman ( I persumed was the owner ) came and chatted to us . The chef came out and asked if we were OK and the waitresses were very polite and attentive .Nothing was a bother for them . The Food ---------- Starters, we had the prawn fishcakes, and the prawn won tons. For mains, Prawn Massaman Curry with Jasmine rice, and prawn Thai red curry For dessert, I had the mango sticky rice with mango slices and ice cream, and my husband had just the ice cream All food was authentic and was freshly cooked in the open plan kitchen, where you can see the chefs cooking away . The restaurant was clean and inviting. You can dine upstairs or downstairs If you want to have a really nice meal then I do highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. I just wish it wasn't so far away 😪 and that we had one in our town .Will definitely be back Chịyo to you all and see you soon ..

I found this little diamond restaurant on a visit to shawlands And what a find . Traditional Thai cooking at its best , Fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection The staff were all attentive and friendly Thai smiles Close your eyes ! You could be in Bangkok 😊 I highly recommend it But book early , as it’s not the biggest . I will definitely be back

Tried The Thai for the first time tonight. It was romemended to me by some good friends. The staff were very attentive, friendly. We were shown to our table by a very smiley and happy waitress. Our starters were served in no time at all. Mains and desserts followed not long after. The food was nothing short of amazing. I have travelled extensively accross Thailand and this food is authentic as it comes. The ingredients were very fresh and tastey. I will be making The Thai a regular eating spot. If you haven't tried this place already. Do yourself a favour and book a table. You won't be disappointed I promise.

The best Tom Yum and Chicken and Cashew Nuts Special since I was in Koh Samui! Absolutely delish! Great service and Chef popped out the kitchen to say hi! Lovely staff, gorgeous super fresh food and pretty good prices!

A really lovely casual spot with genuinely authentic Thai food. We ordered a whole mix of items from the menu, and every single one of them was delicious. The Pad Thai, Massaman Curry and Pad Kra Paow stood out for me amongst them. Lovely, friendly staff who are really passionate about Thai cuisine. We are all big fans of spicy food so loved the traditional heat levels, but if you have a more delicate palate be sure to let them know so they can adapt your dish accordingly.

Couldn’t fault any part of our meal here. Food was incredible and tasted really fresh. We all had different curries, and pad Thai, with spring rolls and chicken wings to start. One of the best Thai meals I’ve had. For dessert we had the cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding and both were outrageously good! The lady who served us front of house was so friendly and attentive. It was a really lovely experience! We came to celebrate our 10th anniversary. The staff was very friendly, very cozy atmosphere and the food was absolutely delicious! We had a really nice surprise when we got an upgrade on our desert with a “happy anniversary” message and complimentary treat! Amazing talking, we really enjoyed the evening!

A beautiful authentic Thai meal. Having spent some time in Thailand i was really glad to find The Thai Bar & Restaurant. I had the Tom Yum chicken soup as a starter and Massaman Curry as a main. Great Thai hospitality asyou would expect. Thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend a visit. Kobkhun mak khrap!!

Cannot recommend The Thai highly enough. Anyone who has been to Thailand will recognise the authenticity and purity of the Thai cuisine on display here. The decor is also welcoming and warm, with comfortable seating and excellent friendly service. The head chef and her team are clearly passionate about their cooking and the depth of flavour in each dish is fab.

First time at this restaurant and really impressed with the chefs, amazing food, and very attentive service. We had Tom Kha soup to start, prawn crackers, then mains consisting of Chicken Pad Kra Paow with Jasmine rice and Chicken Panang with Jasmine rice, absolutely sublime. Shared a sweet, mango with sweet coconut and sticky rice. High quality flavours, will definitely be back. We'll done to the team at Thai Bar and Restaurant.

We took our granddaughter here for dinner first time we've been here but will definitely be back we all loved the food, service and the staff were very nice and friendly .

Don't overlook this wee place - I hardly ever leave reviews but I really want to this time. First, it's a cosy and clean place, you can see the kitchen from the tables. The best of it is that the staff are charming, very friendly, warm and were accommodating to a couple of special requests we had. The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. Watch out for the papaya salad, proper spicy! (And tasty)! Benjawan's burnt cheesecake was an absolute treat to share afterwards - I can tell she is proud of it (she should be) and put her heart into it. So be on the lookout for specials. Left with smiles on our faces, and will be back in future :) Thank you :)

The nearest to real Thai food I have tasted out side Thailand a most enjoyable experience

Disappointing. Ordered a 'gin smash' and received a glass much less than half full which was an absolute rip off considering it was £9. Not sure the young guy making the drinks has been trained well as it also took him about 20mins to make them. Ordered the beef massaman curry which was very tasty however the meat wasn't fresh and was clearly cooked separately to the sauce. Additionally I asked for no crushed peanuts on top of the dish and it arrived with these scattered over the plate. Tasty but too expensive considering the quality.

The food here is absolutely fantastic, so fresh and authentic. For our main, we had the recommendation of massaman lamb and prawn panang and we loved both! The sticky mango rice dessert is unreal. The staff are brilliant - we could’ve chatted away for hours! Thanks especially to Gift, our waitress, and Benjawin, the chef, who made the experience 10/10 😊

Got off to good start with starter,then went downhill rapidly, from bad customer service, bringing one main course and a wait for about 15 mins for my main course, to sending husbands main course back, to cold beef on my main and by the time my husband got his main, I was already finished and the sides we had ordered for both of us were cold. My main course bore no resemblance to the photo on menu, the beef was under sloppy noodles with little vegetables and I struggled to find the peanuts. As for my husbands £20 beef dish - beef, some salad, some sliced cucumber and tomato and the same sauce that was used with starter, albeit a fresh one. No way was this dish worth the price. We weren't asked if we needed any more drinks, which we did. The staff were apologetic about the first poor main course my husband was given, but to be honest, the second one didn't look much better. When they initially brought it they asked if we wanted to share this too (as we had done with the starter), looking at the meagre portion I assumed they had taken the order down wrong and that this was another starter. No mention of any reduction in bill, not that we asked for one, but they did seem totally oblivious to the fact that the whole experience had been pretty poor for us. When you go out as a couple, you want to actually dine as a couple not have one of you eating while the other watches. Basic rule of appropriate customer service in hospitality industry. 2 stars, only for the decor and the potential it could have if food and service better.

Ben and her team serve up some of the most authentic Thai food we’ve had outside of Thailand. My Lamb Panang was super tasty with a complex sauce and tender meat, and my wife’s Pad Thai had all the fresh condiments served separately and big juicy prawns. We had a lovely conversation with Ben; she is a wonderful character, and really cares about delivering a fantastic and authentic experience for her guests. I would say that given the very high quality of the food and service, with the mid range price point too, that the ambience could be a little ‘warmer’, maybe just with some Thai music and lower lighting to increase the ambiance and romance!

We came here and enjoyed a delicious dinner with quick service and excellent authentic Thai food. For my birthday this year I wanted to try something new so I invited all my friends to the Thai, it's safe to say everyone who came had an amazing time and absolutely fantastic tasting food! The staff were so accommodating and friendly that we all felt so comfortable and they all went above and beyond to make sure we had a special night, even putting happy birthday music and brining a Thai dessert with a candle, you have to try this dessert if you go, it's sweet coconut rice with fresh mango, it's absolutely to die for! Having a sudden desire to have a Happy Friday dinner with my kids, we reserved this Thai restaurant just one hour earlier online. I believe a good restaurant must be very busy that I don’t make a call to disturb. Just go straight and see we are lucky to have a table or not. The staff is patient and professional that he combined two tables to form a table for 4. Since we are too busy that we didn’t eat anything for lunch, the staff must feel strange about how large our appetite was😂😂😂 Springs rolls and fish cakes (4pieces, too hungry that we ate two already before I remember to take a photo) the sauce of the fish cake is great. That’s Thai style. A bit spicy but it should be spicy enough to taste like Thai. Papaya salad is what we think it is. The coconut soup is refreshing. Green Curry with chicken is the best favour to remind me of a Thai dish with 3 peppers on the menu, cucumber in the curry is a good replacement for the Thai green tomato. Love it most. 👍 pineapple fried rice is ok that a bit different to normally we have in HK, not quite sure is it that sticky in Thailand 🇹🇭, as every time we went to Thailand, we eat something else. But happy that it’s the best Thai food we ever had in Glasgow. Definitely will try the grill and desert next time if we have longer time. No need to rush back home. I believe most of the chefs are Thai and they do cook with their heart.💜
