I am not one to write a review but i felt i needed to after paying 80£ for a terrible meal. The food was barely edible. The price was crazy. The chips were not cooked tasted frozen and the dishes were unbelievably salty.

The setting with countless Thai statues is magnificent. The pineapple cocktail was excellent. Presentation was very good. Sadly the food wasn’t. Starter of chicken satay looked nice but the chicken was very dry (edible with some of the fish sauce from my mains though it should have been better). I only ate about a third of the mains, a rice dish cooked with a heavy, strong sauce and containing large chunks of meat. Everything tasted re-heated rather than fresh, which was rather shameful as some care had gone into presentation. Staff were pretty dismissive of well-meaning feedback and I only hope this review may encourage the kitchen to live up to the beautiful setting as this restaurant has such a wonderful interior that the food really needs to live up to it.

Attended for breakfast when staying in the city for a short break. Beautiful building, absolutely stunning. Hadnt booked, but was seated immediately. Fast, friendly service. Food was presented beautifully...im not a food picture taker, but even i had to indulge. Prices for the breakfast, and whole experience, were very reasonable. I cannot understand why people have complained about the pricing! Exceptional in every aspect, will definitely return.

Three of us dined here on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't overly busy when we were seated but after half an hour of no one attending to us I asked the manager if we could place a drink order. We then waited again with empty glasses and had to ask one of the waiters to take another order. Our starter plates were ignored once we had finished and it was a good fifteen minutes before they were cleared. The problem with the bad service is the 12.5% service charge that is added to your bill. I personally wouldn't have paid this, however my friend did. The food was outstanding and the restaurant is warm and inviting but the service, in my opinion was very poor.

There were two very drunk and loud Thai ladies in short dresses behind us who apparently knew the staff. The food was not the same as described on the menu. Had to pay 5 pounds for water and extra 5 pounds for rice to come with a curry. The napkin left white marks on my trousers that don’t come off. Generally unpleasant experience.

I went for my birthday dinner. The food was okay nothing exceptional . The egg fried rice had barely eggs on it. The grilled sea bass was very basic and did not have much flavour. Expected flavour of lemongrass and other spices. Only I liked their fish cake and prawn fried was way too oily they coated it like chicken fry so batter was very thick . They added service charge on top even that is 12.5% even though service was nothing exceptional and that should be optional. Price was exorbitant. Also I had instant tummy ache after having Thai tea . Never going again

Food was good, however, very very slow service, 25 mins for starter, 1 hour for mains. They also added a £10 gratuity charge which wasn't mentioned anywhere nor was I told when I paid. I only noticed once I read the reciept afterwards. Didn't appreciate this at all, and wouldn't have paid it given the choice due to the slow service.

The restaurant is in a really nice historical building and looks well maintained. The food was nice, but the portions too small for my liking. What deducted a star for me was the sneakily added service charge of 12.5%. I don't get it, this not the USA where staff are reliant on tips to supplement their income.

Chaophraya offers an exceptional dining experience, combining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with attentive, patient, and understanding staff. The seating is comfortable, and the ambiance exudes a classy and cultured vibe. The temperature is just right—neither too warm nor too cold—though keeping a light layer on might be ideal for maximum comfort. This spot is perfect for dining alone, with a friend, or as part of a small group, though it shines as a cozy destination for two-person parties. When it comes to cuisine, Chaophraya truly raises the bar for Thai food. The dishes are not only delicious but also perfectly portioned, ensuring excellent value for money. Every bite tastes fresh, and the diverse menu includes a variety of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. For those who enjoy a bit of flair, Chaophraya offers a couple of visually impressive dishes that add a touch of theater to the meal. The service is impressively efficient, with minimal wait times, making it an ideal spot for those eager to skip the small talk and dive straight into the food. Whether you’re looking for an indulgent solo meal, a cozy dinner with a friend, or an intimate group outing, Chaophraya delivers on all fronts.

We visited tonight for dinner to use a voucher we got as a gift. Food was lovely but the service was terrible. We went in the girl on the front desk looked like she didn’t want to be there and had a bit of an attitude. We came in soaked to the skin after getting caught in the rain. Someone then took us upstairs asked if we’d been before and how the service was I said good last time he said Im sure it will be like that again. He was wrong. We had to hang our own jackets up as they were soaked. The girl who initially served us was pleasant we got our food then no one checked on us we had to ask to take some of it home. We then got our boxed food and the guy didn’t ask if we needed anything else, our water wasn’t topped up throughout or left on the table for us to do it. We then had to ask for dessert menu and try to get someone’s attention to order. Lots of staff wandering around looking lost including a guy in a suit who looked like a manager which was poor. People resetting tables ignoring customers. It wasn’t busy when we went in so can’t even blame that . Such a shame as a really nice restaurant and expensive where the service should reflect this.

Was very excited to diner here and we had a dinner reservation. The Thai chicken tacos were delicious but everything was downhill from starters. The chicken pad Thai was suggested as the most popular dish, however it didn’t resemble the flavours of an authentic Pad Thai. The rest of our food, cocktails and dessert were also quite average and this place didn’t live up to the hype. We were left disappointed at the end of the meal!

Upscale Thai in the city centre. Very large building although the second floor is the main restaurant. Good choice of dishes and authentic cooking style, very tasty. Service very good also. Found the large room (it was a music hall) interesting but more business like and maybe not for a romantic evening. Maybe if the lights were dimmed and candles etc it would be more atmospheric. A key point to note is that there is no lift and there are plenty of stairs. If you struggle with a stick take note. The stairs are wide though. Recommended for a lovely relaxing meal.

Food was quite bland and portions fairly small in comparison to the price. Entry and exit to the building really weird and the whole place looks sort of half finished. They were able to accommodate a fairly weird food request (no vegetables in the pad Thai) so was grateful for that. Menu states 10% service charge added but receipt had 12.5%. It's not optional if you already add it to the bill absolutely hate this method of tipping.

Food was excellent and cannot fault it. The service however was terrible. A drinks order was not taken for at least 30 mins after we arrived, and any attempt to flag staff was ignored. Drinks took too long to arrive, and then another long wait before they took our food order. The food arrived quickly which was good. Starters and mains arrived at similar times and all the empty plates were left on the table for a long time. It was like we were being ignored.

No coffees offered and had to ask for the bill twice. As we were seated at the door there was a constant movement of traffic with people being seated , going to the loo and drinks being brought from downstairs. Service was "meh". This was my first time in Glasgow and this restaurant is one you do not want to miss out on!! Great service, deliciously spiced and flavorful food. I have Celiac Disease and the menu had loads of GF (celiac safe) options. A great lighting design that wasn't too dark or bright, but definitely had a romantic vibe. The music, slapped. Portion sizes were decent too, which if you are like me, matters when going out to decide where to spend my money.

Dine here many times years ago, decided to revisit and noticed there’s little to no change to the deco and ambience of Chao phraya! Still beautiful and grand as ever. However, I have noticed there’s a change in their food taste and flavour. The green curry was a let down with unpleasant spices used instead of the authentic Thai gaeng keow wan recipe. Khua Kling was good but lack of spiciness and saltiness. Som tum was also mild and lack impact. Deep fried aubergine was close to perfection but wish there was more basil and sauce to it. Since the Fish cakes (Hor Mok pla) wasn’t available they recommended Salt and pepper squid which was pleasant and fresh. I won’t recommend this place if you are expecting authentic Thai food but mainly for its decoration and location. If they have options to adjust the spiciness and authenticity of the food quality I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I have aten here several times before, however yesterday's visit was a disappointment. Very expensive, a shared starter for 2 + a bottle of water was £31.00. My Pad Thai meal included tofu which was overcooked hard and rubbery and the veg and sauce was dry. The other meal, was apparently ok. The meal included a pint and a half of beer. The total paid was just under £90 but they add a service charge on top which we decided not to pay, under the circumstances. Beautiful building inside but the food and water was extortionate for the quantity and quality that was received, on this occasion. I would've preferred to pass on my comments but they didn't ask and I was too tired to make an issue of it.

Quite disappointed. Had booked a table for me and my wife as part of a wee day out. We arrived at 12.40 and had a theatre show at 2:30. When we arrived we were the onle people there with thd exception if 1 table who were already eating. Come 13:30 we were surrounded by a pretty busy restaurant about 16 full tables with about 12 eating. One table had actually come been served / ate and left all before our food came. We mentioned this and asked for our starters and mains to come together. Once served our food now about 13:45 We then rushed our food and paid the bill. Food was OK but expensive. Meal for 2 I.e 2 starters 2 mains 2 soft drinks 1 beer came to £100.00, I've ate better thai food and generally pay 60-70. Other establishments like bar soba or wagamamma are cheaper, faster and the food is better. Don't think we will return.

She didn't get the irony in adding 12.5% when service was a really very poor! In the end, we deducted some of the service charge.

As a Thai student living in Glasgow, I am always on the lookout for authentic Thai food that reminds me of home. I recently visited The Thai Restaurant, and I was truly impressed by the quality, authenticity, and passion that go into their dishes. From the moment I stepped in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere made me feel at home. The flavors in every dish were perfectly balanced, just like in Thailand—fragrant, fresh, and full of depth. The ingredients were clearly of high quality, and the level of spice was spot on, staying true to Thai cuisine rather than being overly adjusted for Western tastes. Beyond the food, I really appreciated their commitment to eco-friendly practices. Whether it’s through sustainable packaging, minimal waste, or responsible sourcing of ingredients, it’s clear that they care not just about their customers but also about the environment. If you’re looking for an authentic Thai dining experience in Glasgow, this is the place to go. Highly recommended for anyone who loves real Thai flavors and appreciates food made with passion and care!
