Visited with friends for lunch. Meal was OK,but received no milk with hot drinks. Went to ask for some, staff didn't speak, seemed quite disgruntled about it. Lots of tables were not cleared during our time there, including ours. Cakes very over priced,so didn't purchase. £3.99 for a small brownie,£2.99 for a small egg custard. Won't be rushing back. Think they need to employ more staff at lunchtime.

When visiting the garden centre today I called in for a piece of cake and a coffee . We waited to be seated which was prompt and told someone would pop back on a few minutes to take our order . The wait was quite a while and I noticed tables around us muttering about it and flagging passing staff down however it was Sunday lunch time and they were busy so it’s to be expected . Whilst waiting myself and my dining partner decided to share a sandwich (cheese and chutney ) and a portion of chips and we got a slice of the triple chocolate cake and banoffee cake with an iced latte and a coke . The sand which arrived with crisps and salad and was on a door step bread and was presented lovely . The chips were delicious. The cake was a bit of a disappointment as it was £4.49 a slice and they were both quite dry and small and in my opinion very over priced . The staff were lovely and very polite. £24.60 for a sandwich. A portion of chips 2 pieces of cake and 2 drinks was on the heavy side however garden centres do tend to be a bit dearer . Would visit again .

My husband and I visited The Terrace on Saturday 12 November for lunch. It is table service so a young woman came to the table & we ordered a sandwich. We had an apology for how long we would have to wait for the baguettes. The sandwiches were ok but would not tempt me back again. The main issue I had was the overwhelming smell from the plastic tablecloth, which had a dirty odour like a dirty cloth had been used. I have never noticed this before with Terrace. The cups and plates also had a dirty dishwasher smell about them. I am very disappointed because I will not be visiting again. The high standard observed previously by The Terrace was just not there on Saturday.

I wanted to give an honest review, we took my Nan out for lunch here after seeing on my website they catered for vegan diets too. Firstly we had to pay for our meals upfront which was weird in case there were to be any issues with food. I ordered the vegan burger which I ask if it was definitely all vegan (after a Lot of places claim something is when it’s in fact only veggie) and was told the bun would not be vegan?? This shouldn’t of been advertised as vegan due to allergies. I ended up having the burger in bread, I didn’t think the meal was at all worth the amount paid for it which seemed quite steep, (as well for the other meals ordered). And then found blue roll in my salad which I mentioned at the end (was not a complaint) however I do think for this that something should of been subsidised or similar. The menu has great promise and a large selection which is great but for me as someone who eats vegan and has a dairy intolerance I wouldn’t go back due to the potential mishap of things being labelled vegan when they might not actually be. Sorry for the negativity :( I did have a lovely oat latte

My husband, I , our family and friends have been coming to The Terrace Restaurant for a number of years now and the reason we eat there most times.......well.... it’s because it is consistently good! We book in for the Christmas meal too each year! Now that is the difference between a Restaurant that offers consistently wonderful home made main menu food; homemade desserts and cakes which are delicious; welcoming smiles; present a professional team; has superb customer service provided by a friendly team of people working in it than a Restaurant who does not come up to that high standard! We have been to other places before and not visited them again because they were NOT consistently good. All the staff at The Terrace are hard working and their consideration is greatly appreciated every time we go ......nothing is too much.... with so much care and consideration each time we visit. We both had the home made vegan Mediterranean Tart vegetables and new potatoes with a fruit scone for me and my husband a vegan chocolate brownie ..... so delicious ... we’ve never tried the vegan / vegetarian /menus before ( also gluten free) but it is just as delicious as the non vegan/ vegetarian menu choices we usually have.... so much choice too....Well worth a visit.... for cake and beverage; taste the main menus etc .... excellent service....welcoming greetings so go on treat yourself....

Great menu, good service, staff cheerful friendly and helpful, the afternoon High tea is a lovely traditional treat. Downside, mentioned in another review which likens the place to a "works canteen" summarises my thoughts when last there, there are too many hard surfaces (walls, floors, ceilings) with nothing to absorb the clatter and chatter, so the atmosphere is more of a "McDonald's", than a "Lion's Tea Rooms", which a little carefully applied carpet or wall covering would easily remedy. Generally, a great place, though, just a bit too noisy to be relaxed and savour the fine catering in

Eaten here many times in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it, introduced it to family and friends and always received great feedback from them. However we moved away about 18 months ago so haven’t been since then.We had cause to revisit the area last week and decided to time it with a visit to the bistro. We ordered our favourite meals, sweet and sour chicken with half chips and rice and pork in blue cheese sauce with chips and veg.We arrived at 2.15 and thought it odd only 4 other tables were in use, we put it down to us arriving a little late.We waited almost 30 minutes for the meal to arrive. On placing the plates on the table my wife and I looked at each other, do they now serve twice fried chips or were they just warmed up, in either case they were awful, the sweet and sour sauce looked a peculiar colour and was quite glutinous however it tasted fine, and all the batter had gone soggy. The pork was just slices of roast pork with a delicious sauce.Needless to say we weren’t too happy, it’s not our thing to make a scene so just left it at that.On leaving we just wondered if it was quiet due to the time we arrived or the food, we will ever find out as we won’t be returning.

My wife and I have been to the Bistro many times in the past and always had great food and cakes. However we have been today for the Christmas Dinner and I have to say I was extremely disappointed. Although the dinner was tasty it was spoilt by the fact that it was all luke warm. We should have asked for our food to be zapped in the microwave but we shouldn't have to do that on supposedly fresh cooked food. Very disappointing. We also used to be whole Apple pies for over the Christmas period, however we have noticed the pie's are now cooked on smaller plates whilst the prices have remained the same. Will probably visit again but will stick to coffee and a cake as apposed to full blown meal.

Visited on the spur of the moment as it’s not easy to get decent vegan meals unless you go to a chain. The specials board had a number of options including a couple of tarts, vegan sausages with new potatoes and veg etc. All mains were £9.50 each. My meal consisted of 2 Linda McCartney sausages with veg, new potatoes and gravy and my daughter had the Mediterranean veg and sausage ‘tart’. What actually came was a pot of the med veg and sausage with a puff pasty lid which I would not call a tart. That being said it was tasty and filling and was served with potato wedges, veg and gravy. I do think the vegan mains are a little overpriced and definitely felt that 2 vegan sausages with 1 roast potato, new potatoes veg and gravy was not a very filling meal or worthy of the price tag. However it was nice and I wasn’t left full. The gravy was a bit tasteless and watery so I would recommend that they use the brown bisto powder to make their gravy in the future. The puddings were nice and all £4.50 or thereabouts which is reasonable considering they do have vegan pouring cream, ice cream or custard. It would be great to see if they could include some smaller vegan meals on their main menu so vegans aren’t forced to pay £9.50 if they want something savoury instead of cake and coffee. Suggestions are falafel, humous, and mango chutney paninis or sandwiches. Jacket potatoes with veg chilli, Mediterranean veg, or veg curry. Vegan breakfast... just swap the non vegan items for a vegan alternative such as swapping the egg for some vegan bacon or tofu scramble, tofu scramble on toast. Vegan bacon and sausage butties... that kind of thing. Really pleased that they have a vegan menu! AND CAKE!

You don’t expect a cafe in a garden centre to be much cop, but this place is brilliant. Not haute cuisine, but good honest home cooking — roasts, fish & chips, soups & stews, all in huge portions at very reasonable prices. Stopped off for lunch on a long drive from the South to N Yorks via Humber Bridge and snobbishly thought we’d not get a decent meal in N Lincs. Very glad to be wrong. Also impressed with the extensive vegetarian & vegan menu — such a change from loads of places that only offer a risotto or veggie burger.

We visited here for Sunday lunch but was very disappointed. The meal took 45 minutes to arrive. For £9.95 we expected at least a decent sized meal and not a child's portion in fact 'rip off'comes the mind. There was one small scoop of mashed potatoes which were almost cold. A very small Yorkshire pudding which wasn't light and airy but flat and stoggy. The nut roast wasn't a nut roast at all, probably hadn't even seen a nut and was tasteless. The carrots were also almost cold as was the cabbage and the vegetarian gravy was more of a gloopy consistency rather than a free poring one. Would not recommend and will not be back.

People flock for quality hot and cold food from a very extensive menu. All food is home cooked from quiches, roasts, pie, salads, snacks, sandwiches etc and I particularly enjoy their lactose free chicken curry which is delicious (even though I am not lactose intolerant). The staff are happy to make a vegetarian one for my friend, even though it is not on the menu - but we had to wait a little longer for this as it was very busy. There is a good selection for those who are vegetarian, vegan, lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant or diabetic. This choice extends to the cakes and desserts which, in my opinion, are the best around. There are usually 5-6 imaginative deep creamy cheesecakes, 2 chocolate cakes, brownie, lemon meringue pie, Bakewell, coconut tart, coffee and walnut, carrot, victoria, Christmas cake, lemon drizzle, scones (cherry, sultana, plain, cheese), banoffi, apple pie, treacle tart, lime and coconut. Once again many of these are suitable for those with a gluten intolerance and some lactose-free or diabetic friendly. I think the owner/manager is pretty incredible and is always so helpful and genuinely cares that her customers enjoy the food and experience. The staff are efficient, organised, courteous and friendly

The owner could not have been more helpful and changed the sandwich fillings and savoury treats, she even apologised that the food would take slightly longer to come out as it was being freshly prepared. I have to admit to sampling a few afternoon teas but this was one of the best I've had. We had 2 children with us and they were catered for too and we were given take away boxes to take home the goodies we hadn't managed. Can highly recommend and will be going back soon.

Fantastic food, efficient staff and such good value. Visited on numerous occasions with various friends and family and the choice on the menu is outstanding. They cater for all dietary requirements and taste buds. Diane certainly knows how to manage this very busy tea room, the staff are so efficient and offer such good customer service, which in itself is quite rare these days. We often pop for lunch but have never quite managed to have room left for a cake, even though they look absolutely delicious. They also make beautiful celebration cakes, as they recently made my Dad's 80th and he was thrilled to bits with it. Keep up the good work girls, you're doing a fantastic job.

Nice place, was quite busy when we visited on a Sunday. The food was lovely and varied. Our daughter is following a dairy free diet and the staff were very helpful and knowledgable. We all had different dishes and all we cooked and presented very well. We were so full we bought some cakes to eat at home. We had the dairy and gluten free Victoria sponge and the coffe and walnut cake. Both were absolutely gorgeous. Highly reccomended for veggies, vegans, diabetics, dairy free and probably many other diets!

I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough. It is spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly and helpful (even when rushed off their feet). The meal choices are extensive including vegetarian, gluten free etc. The cakes are all home made and are delicious and you're absolutely spoilt for choice. If this restaurant was closer we would be there every week. Still, it being further away helps us keep off the calories . A pot of tea, a Latte, piece Lemon Drizzle cake and Apple pie and custard £11-90.

Visited on Tuesday lunchtime. We were impressed by the wide choice of meals on the menu - the daily specials consisted of around a dozen extra choices that weren't on the main menu and offered a few more unusual choices as well. My partner loves both seafood and salad and was pleasantly surprised to see a choice of 3 seafood salads - a nice change from the usual choice of ham, egg or cheese salad that many places offer. He opted for the dressed crab salad whilst I went for the belly pork and yorkshire pudding with vegetables and we both enjoyed our meals. We didn't have a pudding, but several hot puddings were available and the cakes in the display cabinet looked very tempting. The staff were friendly and efficient. The only downsides were that the acoustics of the place did make it quite noisy and so a bit difficult to chat and the wooden chairs weren't terribly comfortable. But despite those minor criticisms we will be going again sometime to try some of the other dishes on offer.

In the past I have always looked forward to a meal here. Although the food was priced a little on the high side it was good. Oh dear when we visited your restaurant today what a terrible let down. Whilst I appreciate that staff should have a wage rise occasionally we were faced with what I can only describe by a down right greedy price increase in their menue prices .With soup costing £4.99 each we had 2 soups=£9.88 and 2 coffees @£2.45 =£4.90 both being cappuccinos I felt this outrageous.Grand total £14.78.Normally we would have had a main course and a sweet, we've been regular customers for years , the soup we had was tasteless and it was for all as if they'd taken yesterday's left overs and put them through a liquidiser. In all we were disgusted and so we left.Normally we would have spent in the region of £25 or £30 so their greed and poor food quality has cost them two customers. I hasten to add that we won't be going back.

Visit here a lot as it's not too far from home. Have brought various friends and family members and it never disappoints. The restaurant is always busy so can be rather noisy but food is excellent and fairly priced. Shame there isn't outside space to eat in the summer. The manageress/owner is so nice and helpful, she makes a point of being visible and always happy to help. Well worth a visit and the plants are good too.

We have been for several meals and afternoon snacks, the sausage rolls and cake are fantastic cant fault them. It was a different matter when we came for an afternoon tea. Four of us came as a treat and how disappointed we were at the size of the portions. The slice of sausage roll was cut so thin it fell apart when you tried to pick it up. The sandwiches and cakes although nice wasnt enough to fill a child. I will return but for a standard sausage roll and slice of cake. For £40 this was a very expensive snack.

We used to live nearer to this garden centre and visited the cafe many times, without being disappointed. As we were in the area today with our grandchildren, we called in. The cafe has been updated, but had the atmosphere of a works canteen. It was very busy (which ought to suggest it's a popular place to eat) and there was so much background noise that it was almost impossible to have a conversation. While we were waiting for our food I asked the meeter and greeter if the door (which was wide open) could be kept closed as there was a very cold draught. She agreed, but obviously there was a draught every time someone entered or left. A couple on a nearby table asked to move because of the cold. Our food came fairly quickly, but was disappointing. My mackerel salad was OK, but I could have whipped it up myself from items bought at a supermarket. Another salad was swimming in balsamic vinegar - if this had been mentioned on the menu we could have asked for it to be left on the side. A jacket potato was burnt black on the outside. The only meal that couldn't be criticised was savoury mince in a Yorkshire pudding. The most positive point was that the staff were polite and friendly.

Called in for a Saturday lunch with my sister. The menu looked decent enough.I ordered the beef stew and dumpling and my sister, the mackerel salad. The stew was average, however the dumpling was insubstantial, tasteless and had a crust. Not what I was expecting. As for the salad, my sister ate half of the fish and gave up. It was full of bones and had a tough exterior. To quote her..This fish had had a long swim from the North Sea. I'm sure that this place suits some people, but I'll stick to the White Swan in Scotter or the Jenny Wren in Susworth. Pay a little more but the food is delicious and it is not like eating in a school canteen.

My wife and I had lunch at this marvellous restaurant, on the recommendation of a local businessman that we had met earlier. We arrived at about 11:45 and sat quite close to the serving counter, so I was in an ideal position to watch, as the staff worked hard to cope with the demands of a particularly busy time over the lunch hour. To say that I was impressed is an understatement! There were two tills operating, with a friendly and efficient lady on each one, who both reacted instantly to what was happening in front of them. If there was a lull, straight away they would be clearing tables, or doing something else to help out. But they were always watching the counter, so they could return to the tills in an instant. Both ladies exuded efficiency and were very pleasant, with ready smiles. This attitude extended throughout the workforce, who all appeared to be very flexible in turning their hands to different tasks, and were intent on giving great customer service. I was so engrossed whilst watching this great display of organisation, that the food almost became inconsequential!! But it was most impressive - broccoli & stilton soup with cheese & chutney sandwiches, followed by apple & blackberry crumble, with vanilla ice cream. All home made, arrived very quickly after ordering (with the customary smiles from the waitresses) and very tasty too. The crumble was absolutely gorgeous and the portion size was amazing!! The coffee was great too - tasty Douwe Egberts, rather than the rubbish that many places I have been to, charge the earth for.I was so impressed by the whole experience, that after the meal I went to the two lovely "till ladies" to say thank you. They called the Manager across and straight away I could tell where everything good about the place stemmed from. She too is a lovely person, is patently a great organiser and her staff are obviously emulating her work ethic and pleasant disposition. I just wish this lovely restaurant was in Skegness!!

My friend decided this year to treat her god daughter (my daughter) to a more "grown up" treat for her 10th Birthday today and I have to say that after reading a previous review on the Afternoon tea here ... I would have to totally disagree with that review. We arrived shortly after noon to find that we had in fact arrived too early for "afternoon tea" on a Sunday. However after my friend explained the reason for our visit the staff could not help enough. The food came out and we were actually rather surprised by the sheer amount of food that we received.... so much so that we had to take a plate full of cakes home with us! The sandwiches (although in small fingers) were fresh and more than enough for 2 (and a half) people along with the salad, sausage rolls, quiche and tea/coffee. We found the staff really pleasant and attentive and my little girl loved her Birthday treat. My husband and I have visited on an afternoon for coffee and cake and have always found the staff lovely, the atmosphere relaxed and the cakes delicious. Thank you.

It's many years since I last visited here and couldn't believe how the place had grown.I was impressed with the large restaurant and the great selection on the menu.We called in for lunch about 1.00 and the place was bussing. We ordered off the special deals on the blackboard but felt a little embarrassed standing in the alleyway staring at the board over the heads of fellow diners, I think it would be more convenient to print off a special menu and put it in the main menu.Tea was brought promptly but we decided to leave it until our meal arrived, the sweet and sour chicken and lasagne were delicious, well presented and piping hot, even the tea which we poured after our meal was still very hot.The staff were very good and well turned out.We dine out once or twice a week, this is definitely on our revisit list.Well done Terrace Bistro.

Reading some of the reviews I wonder if we are talking about the same place, if it wasn't spot on, we (and the many regulars) wouldn't go there once a week. Well worth a visit any time.It is one of few places where the food on a Sunday is as consistently good as a weekday.

A little disappointed really, service was really good, but the food average - ordered the chicken kebab which was just okay, not brilliant. But the most disappointing aspect was ordering our dessert, but as we were after 9pm the kitchen had closed. We were late diners, arrived at 8.15 but when we ordered our main we mention we would like a dessert so when we were faced ordering and told, sorry the kitchen is now closed, we were left very disappointed indeed - not good really as the staff should have really come to us, but didn't. Ho hum - we dined out the second evening, great meal locally, far superior food and service.

Booked with friends for Sunday breakfast 10.30 am. We arrived just after 10.30. We were the only customers - no problem as we had lots of catching up to do. Ordered drinks which arrived promptly and after a while our orders were taken for breakfast. Then we waited and waited and waited.... Probably about 11 30 after I'd chewed my elbow off the food arrived. It was ok. I had the scrambled egg with smoked salmon. Lovely but an extra egg to actually cover the (1) piece of sourdough would have been appreciated. So disappointing ... The place is so lovely and the decor absolutely amazing. We will definitely try evening as the reviews sound so good but very disappointed today

Popped in here on an ad-hoc detour to get something to eat & drink (5pm ish). Building looked like an old fashioned type of place and advertised food outside the front door. Parking in the old stable courtyard around the back. Tight bar, low ceilings but offered good ales. The chef spotted as and told us that if we wanted food, Stew and Dumplings were fresh and a special of the day. Very much a locals pub, bar flies were friendly, TV on with no sound (News) and best of all. NO MUSIC and could have a conversion without shouting over any noise. Grub was bang on (Stew, dumplings, mash and veg) and a massive portion. £8 quid. Mrs. had Scampi, a mountain of chips and a lorry load of peas which she said was really good. Also £8 quid. Great pub, great grub, well poured beer and nice welcome surroundings. Rough and ready, no frills good honest place.
