What a lovely pub with a friendly welcome from both the punters and staff. We chose from the wide selection of zero alcohol beers and pub snacks on offer. Next time we visit we will eat from the hot food menu as the pies sound great!

The pub is charming with it decor and welcoming with amazing friendly staff, I have met the landlady and she were so kind and welcoming, the garden is accommodating and specious with roof covering table and out on sunshine tables -I am very enjoyed my stay (passing by the village) and would recommend to visit this place…. Especially I love the beer from local Brewer maned in memory of loving husband and the owner of this pub-Dave you are/were legend (I am sure of it) and are still loved by many ……….. thanks Jacky

Stumbled on this spot as it was handy. May not be much to look at but excellent food and great value for money. Had a two course meal that we thought was incredibly reasonably priced only to get pensioner rates on top. Wish we were locals!! They certainly deserve the business.

Overall it's a decent pub great service and friendly people. However the beer garden and the outside sitting area have seen better days. The beer garden is overgrown and the outside sitting/gazebo needs better seating and possibly some benches. It used to have a cozy, nice atmosphere too the pub (on the outside) All it needs is a tidy up and some nice seating like how it was when the previous owner had it. But overall a good beer selection and welcoming people.

Lovely pint of Bass blast from the past!

Excellent main course teriyaki salmon, but disappointingly small portion of excellent lemon meringue. Ham & leek pie also recommended!

Great pub. Just as a pub should be. Warm, friendly, good staff. Always a great atmosphere and everyone welcome. There is now a fabulous daily menu of super delicious food available. What more could you want at this great pub? I have added the menu here and am delighted that Pensioners have a good discount on all dishes. Check it out. You will not be disappointed.

This is one of the best country pubs in the area. The staff are really friendly and so are the patrons. The landlord keeps his real ale impeccably well, which is a change to the usual drab you get in other places. Great atmosphere in both the front and the back rooms. As soon as we arrived the lady behind the bar was kind enough to strike up the log burner for us. Prices of the beer are reasonable and cheaper than other places in the area. Highly recommend to visit if you are passing.

This is a proper English beer drinking pub. The landlord looks after his cask ales to perfection. It's somewhere where you can sit by the fire with your dog and enjoy a good pint of Bass . If I'm ever in the area, I will always visit this place.

Got glassed here once and had a headache for 3 days, great food and drink though, would definitely recommend if you don’t get too mouthy with the locals

Sunday lunch with 4 friends , Warm welcme by friendly staff, Home cooking at it's best two had roast beef more than enough tender beef served with a large yorkie and 4 roast potatoes 3 choose gammon served with egg or pineapple again the meat was spot on, and came with roast potatoes, one of the party was veggie and had veg quiche with chips and salad which she said was very tasty. A large dish with a selection of veg was also served all oerfectly cooked. We did have dessert, some shared one again very enjoyable.

We went for the carvery lunch on Easter Sunday. Good choices on the menu for all of my party. Excellent quality food throughout. I would warn that the portions are huge. Only one of my party finished all three courses, but the staff were kind enough to make up a couple of doggy bags for the rest. This review would have been five star, but at times the service got a bit confused. Maybe because it was a holiday weekend, the bar and restaurant appeared to be manned by school kids. Our table allocation was confused and the bar staff were inexperienced to say the least. However, I will be back.

Excellent value. Huge main course portions. Unless you are really hungry, don't bother with a starter. Recommended: any roast dinner followed by the cheese board. First visit today, and will not be the last.

A friendly independent pub, run by local people. It is a big part of the local community, being involved in many events throughout the year. They are involved in the Christmas carol service next week, for example, which will be hosted at All Saints Church but with a bar provided by the pub. The pub also host events during Winterton Show Weekend. Dave and his dad are lovely people and are always welcoming. Sammie and Joe are super also. The waiting team work hard. A log fire is lit during winter months, adding to the atmosphere. Food is served in Sunday’s. I like the traditional style of the pub. It is not part of a chain and has its own character.

Typical village pub. Everyone turns and stares at strangers. You can smell the gents toilets as you walk through th front door. Beers was ok though.

Rang at 11 and got a table sorted for 3 adults 4 kids for 12. Arrived to a lovely Bev who served us drinks. Food was really quick which we didn’t expect, huge portions and totally delicious home cooked food, didn’t appear to be a microwave in sight. Children’s meals were brilliant and huge. Adults meals left us stuffed and ready for a good walk. Staff were young but really friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. Really impressed. Well done. We will be back.

Excellent food, excellent drink. Lovely friendly staff. There is a great warm and friendly feeling as soon as you walk through the door. I felt at home and had no desire to leave just wished to stay sat near the real coal fires.

Came for Sunday dinner didn't know what to expect had a couple of beers in the bar with the locals to start off with who all made us so welcome. Booked the table for 2.30 and at 2.30 we were taken to our table and are Sunday roast was served couldn't believe my eyes the amount of meat on the plate and how nice it was. Then the fresh veg which was lovely. Really struggled to eat it all but it was lovely been there several weekend since and will be going for more

Absolutely first class Sunday lunch. More than accommodating bar staff, brilliant service and very reasonable prices. Most recommended, not just at a weekend but all week through.

This is a really, really nice venue. The owner is a lovely man. It is an independent pub. It has its own character and a traditional feel. Prices for soft drinks seem to be good. Cannot comment on alcohol prices, as I do not really drink. There is limited parking at the rear. A pleasure to visit.

Went along to the pub due to the good reviews only to be told there is no food being served except on sundays 12-4 !!!!!! The website still states food served all week and weekends, update the website if you cant fulfill your commitment.......WASTED JOURNEY. nice lookig place and friendly staff though

My wife and I had Sunday brunch here. Absolutely a pleasant surprise. Traditional but with subtle hints of spice here and there. The place is quite old for a pub, family run and very pleasant! If this shows up 45 minutes away from you, it is well worth it! Price? We would have paid more!

Lovely food the Pate was one of the best I've ever tasted , Sunday roast was very nice with plenty of meat and fresh vegetables , the puddings were to die for especially the carrot cake cheesecake. Very disappointed. Booked a table for two at 7.30pm for my husbands birthday. The bar area was unclean and the tables were sticky. Staff were helpful and attentive, but food was very poor quality and my husbands blue burger smelt as though it was 'on the turn' would recommend it to family and friends.

Some of you may remember my last review where I was critical of the landlord, which I was probably wrong to do once learning of the situation. But still, swearing is never the answer! On return, I was slightly apprehensive but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The portion size was huge, more than a sufficiency and you definitely get your money's worth. I particularly liked the Roast Pork, it was delicious. Again, the beers were nice! I walked into a pub which was much friendlier as I was expecting it to feel uncomfortable. The only issue would be the service, the bar maid seemed slightly slow and service could have been quicker. However, we all enjoyed our meals and next time I'm in the area I will visit again.

Recently moved into the neighboring area and went for a walk to discover what's on offer locally and stumbled onto the George Hogg. What an enjoyable afternoon we had. The landlord made us feel welcome from the onset, drinks are competively priced, the locals were chatty and extremely friendly and added to our enjoyable afternoon. We will certainly be revisiting to sample the food on offer in the very near future. Would really recommend a visit if your after a relaxed friendly environment.

We called in here by chance and we were very impressed with a cosy restaurant at the front and a good old fashioned bar at the back so even if you don't want to eat off the tasty menu you can enjoy a cosy drink by an open fire

This is a family pub its a little rough around the edges but for a local village the food is good quality and home cooked none of that microwave stuff you get with the large chains.I love this place because its what you see what you get type.10/10.Had lovely Sunday lunch and they will do anything for vegetarian likes like me.

The George is wonderful! The staff are friendly, and I love the open fire. Actually I could spend all day at the fire! Wonderful place.
