Went to this restaurant for first time prior to seeing a show at Theatre- they have a captive audience so should be very good but - shared calamari with husband - 4 very very thin rings & sad salad costing £8 - very very poor.Main course crunchy chicken ok , needs more sauce again very sad salad & very poor quality chips which I left- plates were cold - Guinness pie was good but again over cooked sad vegetables & should have been served with small boiled potatoes not poor chips.Service was very good, staff very attentive - restaurant lovely & bright with great views over a rather tired Union Terrace ! Kitchen needs to improve presentation& quality , understand under pressure before a show but that’s no excuse . Although very convenient will not return - much better quality restaurants nearby !

We came to the Terrace during Restaurant week. We shared a selection of small plates. Everything was delicious, well cooked and presented. A good variety of options catering for different tastes and preferences. Service was friendly and fun. Great views overlooking UTG and down Schoolhill.

We had a mix of adults and children in our group and ordered the salmon, burgers and kids burgers. The salmon was presented on a large plate with a slice of carrot, a slice of parsnip and 3 very small potatoes under the fish. That was it! We asked for the vegetables and potatoes but we're told that it was all on the plate. Very poor. The kids burgers and chips portion was larger! We shared their chips with the adults having the salmon plus ordered an additional salad. Three adults had the Salmon at a cost of £54, a kids meal was £6.50! Very disappointing. The staff were polite, the restaurant was nice and the adult burgers were good but this experience has put all of us off returning in the future.

Pre-theatre meal for four on a weekday evening. Three of us arrived early and were seated right away, and we loved the decor and the stunning view. The only drawback about our window-side table was that there was a terrible cold draught coming from the main entrance below. We kept our coats on our shoulders throughout the meal because of it. The food, though, was fantastic, particularly the selection of "small plates" (like tapas but bigger portions!). However, we were really disappointed to be told that there were no desserts available (other than ice cream) due to the dessert refrigerator having failed. The staff were friendly and very attentive. I'm already looking forward to going back, if only to sample those elusive desserts!

Dinner before an evening performance. Our table for two was not in the best location - very busy with staff constantly passing the table coming from the kitchen and from the bar, and with other diners all passing by to access their tables, go to the toilet etc, etc. We enjoyed all our food. Service was good initially, but as it got busier we were left waiting longer and longer for menus, for dessert, for the dessert to come, for coffees and then for the bill. Thankfully we had booked our table for 5.45pm for the 7.30pm performance, as by the time we finally got the bill settled it was 7.23pm. As a result of this experience, which we didn't find relaxing and as enjoyable as we would have liked, we will likely eat elsewhere before a show now.

Booked a pre show meal Arrived a little early and was seated straight away Beautiful decor and view out onto union terrace gardens Food was first class and arrived promptly Quite a varied menu and something for everyone and very reasonably priced Alot of different draught local beers and an array of cocktails Every member of staff was so friendly and attentive Now for the only downside Beware of attending when there's a show on at the same time as when the interval happens then the bar gets crowded and the noise level increases But only lasts for about 20 mins Would definitely come back especially for a meal before a show Excellent

Staff playing on phones, dancing up and down the bar. Totally ignored us even though we were only two customers in. Got our order then ordered second coffees that had to be paid immediately. First order not paid for?. Was paid for then another member of staff, said you need to pay as we were leaving in an accusing tone as in we were trying to leave without paying. Bad service from start to finish. Art gallery far superior.

Arrived at 5.55pm for pre theatre dinner. Order taken quickly, little wait for main course which was good. Empty plates removed then it all went downhill. Waited for server to offer desserts but eventually had to flag another staff member down to ask for menus. Then flag someone else down to place order at 6.55pm. Coffee arrived but no desserts. Was asked to pay our bill when we pointed out we still hadn’t received desserts. Then we had to ask again only for one portion to be placed on our table in a polystyrene box with 2 forks. By this time ( 7.25 pm) it was time for show to start. Lots of staff on duty so not sure where it all went wrong. Definitely will not be returning.

There was no air conditioning it was about 40°c in the building, since it has big windows it's like a greenhouse inside. I felt really sorry for the staff who dispute the heat still managed to provide an excellent service. Food was good, service was excellent. Shame about the heat!

It seems there is a polar experience for people who come here, it's either really bad, or, as we found it, really quite good. The restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasant with tremendous views over the gardens. The staff were very welcoming and friendly from start to finish. I can understand some of the observations re the food, but our mix of five small plates were all well cooked, well presented and I thought it was value for money. A bigger portion of bread to go with the hummus wouldn't go amis and separating the affogato for the customer to combine (mine arrived almost as a milky coffee) are the only 'complaint'. We will definitely be back before any show again.

We visited for the first time this evening and wow we were so impressed! The bar area itself is so well presented and the decor stunning. The view of Union Terrace Gardens is amazing. The food and service was 5 stars! We picked 3 side plates each and no understatement, was so fresh and flavoursome, we are already deciding when we can come back. Bravo 👏🏼 We will be back. Very soon.

Went here for a family meal and can thoroughly recommend it.We we’re made very welcome when we went in and the staff were very attentive all the time we were there. We we’re sat at the window, which had lovely views over the new gardens. The restaurant is really nicely furnished. There was a good variety of food on the menu, which pleased everyone at the table. There were small plates if you aren’t a big eater or simply wanted to try a few things. The menu has the biggest and most unusual selection for vegetarians. One of us had the veggie burger, which was lovely.Someone else had the club sandwich and the other two people had three small plates each.I had three small vegetarian plates of very tasty and unusual food.We all had different desserts.A couple of us had the Black Forest pudding. When this was ordered our server told us that it wouldn’t be exactly as the menu said, but when it came out it wasn’t as she had described it either. It was only a small disappointment,as it was still tasty. I will definitely be back to try some of the other menus at different times. The prices are very reasonable. Well done to all the staff who gave us a lovely night.

We booked a table for brunch before going to a matinee today, we waited for our food until half an hour before the start, but had to give up, as there wouldn't have been enough time to eat . There was a lot of staff there to deal with the orders, but just one person in the kitchen. Very disappointed, and unlikely to return.
