WENT FOR AFTERNOON TEA FOR MY DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY. THE TEA, COFFEE, SANDWICHES AND CAKE WERE OK. HOWEVER THE SERVICE, THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE ROOM WASN'T GOOD AT ALL. THE PLACE WAS FREEZING COLD AND THE SERVICE WAS EVEN COLDER. WE FELT UNWELCOME FROM THE MINUTE WE WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR AND IT DIDN'T GET ANY BETTER. NEVER BEFORE HAVE I HAD TO ASK FOR EVERYTHING WE SHOULD HAVE HAD. FELT VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND WAS TOTALLY IGNORED FROM THE SERVICE.

Me and a friend had one of the best afternoon teas we have ever had and we have done loads mainly in London including the savoy. When I booked the afternoon tea I requested the table in the window but was told the table was to small for afternoons tea so we would probably have to sit somewhere else. But when we turned they had swapped the table in the window to a much bigger table especially for me and my friend so thank you very much Cheryl. All the food was amazing everything was home made we were given quiche and. Coleslaw, you get 4 cakes each, a small mousse, and a scone with jam and clotted cream and sandwiches and unlimited tea.

My boyfriend and I spent one night in Hemel Hempstead (from Manchester, to visit Warner Bros Studio Tour) and we found The Tea Tree online when searching for somewhere to enjoy afternoon tea for my birthday. The shop itself its lovely, very quaint and welcoming. The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble. The girl serving us talked us through the afternoon tea spread and was very attentive to our needs. The afternoon tea itself is fantastic value for money! You get so much of it, we couldn't finish it all and left with three cupcakes boxed up! All homemade, very big portions and all very delicious. I have been looking forward to trying The Tea Tree for ages - they get great reviews and it seemed like the ideal place for a celebratory afternoon tea - which we booked, albeit spur of the moment for later the same day. Cutting a long story short, although the booking was accepted and confirmed as afternoon tea with cake, not lunch, when we arrived we were told that we had to book afternoon tea days in advance and were made to feel, by being spoken to so the whole tea room could hear, like we were making up our booking - "I don't know who would have taken that booking - she must have thought you meant lunch, everyone knows you have to book ages in advance". No apology, no trying to come up with an alternative (they had scones, so perhaps they could have offered a cream tea on the spot) - just rude staff who both gave "the look". What sort of tea room can't offer afternoon tea - particularly when it has been booked? Is it really that difficult to put a couple of scones and a piece of cake on a tray? And why the shocking service? And seriously - no apology? Also no toilets here which isn't great. The cake was nice, but I can make a cake and a cup of coffee - that isn't the experience I was after, and I certainly won't be going back. I wouldn't even give one star unless I had to.

We have just enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea comprising freshly made quiche, a selection of sandwiches, lemon posset, scones, jam and cream and several different homemade cakes, all washed down by a hot pot of earl grey. It was all nicely presented on matching china and laid out on a tablecloth. We were beaten by the cakes and had a doggy bag to bring them home. The staff were very pleasant. However, afternoon tea is only served on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and must be booked in advance. The reason is because everything is home made freshly. It was worth every penny but don't have lunch beforehand!!

I took mum here for high tea on her birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the food and tea was great.

Made to feel so welcome. Same attention to my daughter when she arrived. Lovely atmosphere. Only had hot drink and cake - reasonably priced.

Cute shop front in the old High Street - door leads into cosy cottage style cafe. Traditionally furnished - dark oak 'mis-matched' tables, chairs and china. Lovely friendly staff, sometimes get a little flustered at busy lunchtimes. Tables are rather crammed together and there isn't a customer loo.Food is good - especially the creamy cheese on toast or baked potatoes, both of which come with salad items - coleslaw, lettuce, potato salad. Cakes are great and include gluten free options. We like it and keep coming back. Best to book at lunchtime - they're always busy.

The tea room has it's own identity, a bit quirky and very enjoyable. It is tight for space, it doesn't have a toilet BUT... The tea is loose leaf, the cake is homemade and the staff are fantastic. It rounds off a walk round the old town with the right amount of old English nostalgia.

Lovely setting and tea very refreshing served in proper tea cups but the sandwiches were unimaginative; egg mayo and cheese and pickle and served on doughy supermarket white bread. Cakes tasteless and cut outs from larger cakes. Charging premium prices. Sorry, need to improve.

I reserved the Tea Tree for 20 people and we have an afternoon tea for £20 per person. The atmosphere, food and service was excellent. we were thoroughly stuffed with cakes, scones, sandwhiches and loose leaf tea. Thanks to the team from all of us at The Berkhamsted meetup Group!

This is a very nice cafe, food was tasty, nicely prepared. But we had to ask 3 times to get someone to take our order. The place was busy, but didn't seem to have enough staff. Also why don't they have a customer toilet. ????
