Good service and friendly staff. I had a sandwich with cheese, pickle and ham which was tasty, and fresh, soft bread! A family member had a cheesey jacket potato at £9 which does seem a bit steep (especially since they charge £9 for cheese and beans) so was a bit mean to charge the same just for cheese. However, there was lots cake to choose from and I enjoyed the general ambience and tearoom feel. One other thing to be mindful of is that they do not have a toilet!!

We went today for afternoon tea. We were warmly greeted by a friendly lady and were given a window table. The afternoon tea was delicious and plentiful. We have been to many afternoon teas over the years, and this was one of the best we'd had. The sandwiches and cakes were so tasty, as was the quiche. We couldn't eat all the cakes, and it was explained to us before we started that anything we didn't eat we were welcome to take home - and we did! The lady who had first greeted us was lovely and friendly, and checked in on us a few times to make sure we were happy. The owner also approached us a little later and asked if we needed anything else, did we want more scones etc. We were made to feel very welcome here, and the afternoon tea was delicious and very good value for money. We'll be back!

We emerged from the Old Town Hall Theatre in need of some light sustenance before embarking on our journey home, and so we stumbled across this place just down the road. What a great find! Between us we had a club sandwich, a panini, and a couple of cakes as well as a variety of hot and cold drinks. Everything was great and the service was really friendly and pleasant. Well done team, keep up the great work! If we are ever in Hemel again we will be back!

I have guests visiting from abroad and wanted to show them all the lovely spots in Hemel Hempstead. From the moment we walked in, it felt as if we were walking into a place where we were intruding. It was a tense and awful atmosphere. It was my first time visiting the Tea Tree so I made my way to the cashier to ask if we must order there. The lady behind the till was very rude and said we must choose a table and sit. Trying to make the best of the situation and thinking to my self that maybe I was mistaken by her rudeness, she followed us to the table asking for our order and seemingly annoyed that we were looking at the menu so we quickly placed an order under pressure. She then brought our food and proceeded to cough all over it. Then very rudely put the tray down and we waited for her to serve us the food. She then said "right who ordered what?" And signaled for us to all take everything off the tray. She continued coughing and didn't apologize or excuse herself. We found OURSELVES apologizing for not taking the food off the tray fast enough. Ridiculous. The coffee was not nice at all and the cakes were average. Had the service been good and friendly maybe this would have made up for the bad coffee and okay cake. I thought I was maybe mistaken. When we left I asked my guests what they thought and they felt embarrassed to say how unpleasant it was. They didn't want to say anything as I was treating them. But said they were appalled by the bad service. I am hoping that we just visited on a bad day and hoping to give the Tea Tree a second chance and hope that we can put it down to the lady having a Blue Monday.

WENT FOR AFTERNOON TEA FOR MY DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY. THE TEA, COFFEE, SANDWICHES AND CAKE WERE OK. HOWEVER THE SERVICE, THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE ROOM WASN'T GOOD AT ALL. THE PLACE WAS FREEZING COLD AND THE SERVICE WAS EVEN COLDER. WE FELT UNWELCOME FROM THE MINUTE WE WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR AND IT DIDN'T GET ANY BETTER. NEVER BEFORE HAVE I HAD TO ASK FOR EVERYTHING WE SHOULD HAVE HAD. FELT VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND WAS TOTALLY IGNORED FROM THE SERVICE.

Me and a friend had one of the best afternoon teas we have ever had and we have done loads mainly in London including the savoy. When I booked the afternoon tea I requested the table in the window but was told the table was to small for afternoons tea so we would probably have to sit somewhere else. But when we turned they had swapped the table in the window to a much bigger table especially for me and my friend so thank you very much Cheryl. All the food was amazing everything was home made we were given quiche and. Coleslaw, you get 4 cakes each, a small mousse, and a scone with jam and clotted cream and sandwiches and unlimited tea.

The girl serving us talked us through the afternoon tea spread and was very attentive to our needs. The afternoon tea itself is fantastic value for money! I have been looking forward to trying The Tea Tree for ages - they get great reviews and it seemed like the ideal place for a celebratory afternoon tea - which we booked, albeit spur of the moment for later the same day. Cutting a long story short, although the booking was accepted and confirmed as afternoon tea with cake, not lunch, when we arrived we were told that we had to book afternoon tea days in advance and were made to feel, by being spoken to so the whole tea room could hear, like we were making up our booking - "I don't know who would have taken that booking - she must have thought you meant lunch, everyone knows you have to book ages in advance". No apology, no trying to come up with an alternative (they had scones, so perhaps they could have offered a cream tea on the spot) - just rude staff who both gave "the look". What sort of tea room can't offer afternoon tea - particularly when it has been booked? Is it really that difficult to put a couple of scones and a piece of cake on a tray? And why the shocking service? And seriously - no apology? Also no toilets here which isn't great. The cake was nice, but I can make a cake and a cup of coffee - that isn't the experience I was after, and I certainly won't be going back. I wouldn't even give one star unless I had to.

We have just enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea comprising freshly made quiche, a selection of sandwiches, lemon posset, scones, jam and cream and several different homemade cakes, all washed down by a hot pot of earl grey. It was all nicely presented on matching china and laid out on a tablecloth. We were beaten by the cakes and had a doggy bag to bring them home. The staff were very pleasant. However, afternoon tea is only served on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and must be booked in advance. The reason is because everything is home made freshly. It was worth every penny but don't have lunch beforehand!!

Random collection of old-fashioned tables & chairs helped create a feeling that this is a one-off. Service is quirky and inefficient, but friendly and charming - as long as you're not in a hurry.

Went for a weekday lunch with a girl friend, was recommended by another friend who lives in the area and what a wonderful find, Full of character, lots of attention to detail, great menu...we just had sandwiches which were freshly made and very tasty, and came with crisps and salad, the coffee was great, the service was warm, friendly and efficient - can't fault it....

Very busy, quaint little tea shop /cafe. This is a family run business, food home cooked. Varied menu, reasonably priced. Although busy our order was soon taken and we did not have too long a wait for the food. Well worth the visit, but small portions, not for those with big appitites. Room a little crowded, as cafe small. Only downside, no customer toilets, but you can use the public toilets in the Old Town hall opposite.

A hidden gem in Hemel. Loose leaf tea made in a pot (and you get about 3 or 4 cups out of the pot!) and a wonderful selection of cakes. Friendly welcoming service.

Lovely friendly old fashioned tea shop. Great atmosphere with fab home made cakes, and they cater for food allergies. There seemed to be two different kinds of gluten free cakes available. Friendly helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely delicious chippy. I had the chicken nuggets and chips. The nuggets were proper hunks of chicken. The chips were a generous portion with the perfect mix of crunchy bits and fluffy chips, perfectly cooked

Unfortunately tonight the food was not up to standard. I had delivery and chips and onion rings were cold. Lamb burger overcooked thick end if tomato - overall disappointing

Excellent coffee! Shame they have changed the salads as they were so tasty and more like winter salads than the one on offer now!
