The Bell Inn - Bovingdon in Dacorum

Ventured down here to the beer garden after work with a few colleagues for a ‘couple of drinks’ we got there on a Friday around 3.30pm and those drinks turned into evening meal and drinking late into the evening. Lovely atmosphere, great service and a very busy little pub. A good choice of drinks and plentiful menu of beautifully cooked food from pub snack plates to amazing pies! Lovely place and will be back!

Excellent first visit. Had read all the great reviews and wondered if i was expecting too much but in fact it surpassed all my expectations! Fantastic food, lovely staff and great cosy little pub. Small issue with cooking of steak but was rectified immediately with a smile. Will 100% be back again - just wished lived closer!

Called in on spec last Sat lunchtime around 12.30, prior to a visit to Warner Bros with the family, 6 of us including 2 grandchildren. Food and service was excellent would highly recommend. Liver & Bacon was superb, haven't had it for years. 😋

Chose The Bell for a business lunch with a new customer. Bit of a risk as never eaten there before. I need not have worried! A lovely dining experience with excellent food. Went to the bell for a Sunday roast with friends and it I'd been highly recommended, was superb, all freshly cooked veg, nothing frozen. Have had the hanging skewers there before. My aim is to try every dish on the menu.😁

Typical excellent English pub with a better than typical chef and friendly, helpful customer-centred service. We went for lunch and portions were clearly large but pub happy to split a main onto two plates. Lots of locals in and a warm community atmosphere. Parking is a little tight in the car park.

Went to the Bell Inn with my husband for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a great experience. The staff were very friendly and we liked the menu choices. Our drinks were served immediately and our food order taken. We knew that we would have to wait for our hanging chicken satay to be cooked. It was worth the wait. Our meals were lovely and we enjoyed sharing them. We were lucky enough to be seated in the side room with the fire place with just one other table. Although that table looked to be reserved no one actually turned up while we were there so we had the room to ourselves which was lovely. Very small car park which was full when we arrived but we parked on the street without any problems. We will certainly return there for another meal.

The service was excellent the choice of meals was very good there was a good specials board It was food was well presented and the potions large it was good valuefor money

Lovely English Pub with fabulous food, atmosphere and service. My pie was homemade, so full of chicken, I was starting to regret my delicious baked Camembert for starter!!!! (Maybe not!) this is my 3rd visit here and I am never disappointed. Love it here.

The Bell Inn is a lovely pub with great atmosphere, service and food. Their roast dinner is the best we've had. Big portions, extra veg, greens, cauliflower cheese & extra gravy. The beef was amazing served rare, very tasty & soft. Prawn cocktails is great and a big portion again, desserts were great too. We've had the crumble, ice cream & cheescake. I would highly recommend 👌

We loved the food - we're vegetarian and we had one of their delicious pies. The service was attentive, well-informed about all options and very friendly, making us feel very welcome (thank you, Alina!). We were there fairly early (around 6:00 on a Friday) and the place was busy but had a relaxed, family-feel to it. Definitely going back.

Yet again we had lovely food and plenty of it. The hanging kebab was delicious, the fish and chips were falling off the plate because it was so big and the omelette was light and fluffy. The ladies were efficient, helpful and friendly. Thank you and we will be back soon.

From the moment you enter the pub you are greeted with a warm welcome by the friendly staff, and nothing is too much trouble. The menu has a great selection of dishes for all tastes. The quality of the food is outstanding with fresh ingredients, and it is obviously cooked from scratch, and piping hot. Service is very attentive, and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend this pub/restaurant to anyone, with a great selection of beers and outstanding food.

My friend and I just came back from having lunch at the Bell Inn. We both had their homemade beef and ale pie with mash, peas and extra gravy. It was probably the best pie We have ever tasted, packed full of beef, lovely crisp pastry and delicious gravy full of flavour. Real bargain at £16 for the outstanding quality and portion size. We had a couple of extra cold Guinness’s too and the the service was very good and friendly. Also popped in for a quick lunch at the bar and had the most delicious Roast Sirloin of beef in a warm banquet served medium rare to perfection with salad and horseradish. Perfect! We went to the bell for lunch and had the chicken wings with a side of chips, and it was no doubt the best wings I have ever had! Amazing portion sizes and piping hot. Great service with very friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back here for the wings again and again!

Very nice. Good selection, from salad to pies to jacket potato to nachos to sandwiches. And a delicious dessert called, 'cookie bash cake' which was like cheesecake made of cookie dough.

From Birmingham went to the bell yesterday after a long day at harry Potter world. Was met with a warm welcome from the staff members and locals. The beer was great and cheap. Will definitely visit again if we ever that way again.

We came here for my birthday there wad 10 of us. I have to say it's without doubt the best roast I've ever had in a restaurant/pub. Everything was piping hot and served together and I loved the fact that the vegetables were served separately but included. Everything was so well presented and staff were very accommodating. Will definitely be going back .

Had very tasty meals here. I had the tortilla covered in chesse and a very tasty salsa. My friends shared the baked Camembert and a massive prawn cocktail. Great local IPA and a great vegan burger. Top notch attentive service. A real happy find

We all throughly enjoyed our meal at The Bell Inn. The food was very hot and delicious. The soup was tasty with a small baguette. The chicken wings were plentiful. I chose the steak and ale pie as we've tried a few over time so wanted to compare. The pastry was lovely and had plenty of meat. Someone else had the scampi and said it was good. The service was efficient and friendly. We would go again.

Staying in this location currently for work and this place is adorable. The portion sizes are huge and the staff are so friendly. Love that the place is also dog friendly too! Always a bonus. Great menu & great prices especially considering how big the portion sizes are!! Will definitely be back when I’m in this area again

Lovely old fashioned pub. Great portions. I made the mistake of trying to finish off the Camembert starter my wife and I shared but there was too much and struggled finishing my main. Staff are very friendly. Will return.

We went here to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday. There were 12 of us and the whole night was amazing. The food and service were faultless. Very generous portion sizes and all cooked to perfection and hot. Staff were very attentive and looked after us well. Would highly recommend a visit.

Fabulous family meal for my wife’s birthday .. eight of us plus Jim dog (dogs allowed) in the snug.. super ambience …friendly staff and amazing food.. try the fabulous steak and ale and chicken pies, the hanging chicken skewer.. the super fresh fish and chips .. tremendous value for money. Plenty of choice too if you have a sweet tooth. Excellent range of ales .. and a winter roaring fires. We will be back there very soon .. book well in advance to ensure you get your table .

We've tried to get into the Bull for several weeks for Sunday lunch , however its a fairly small restaurant - went to day with my wife for lunch as the weather was miserable and cold . We booked just in case as it was still busy - so we had prawn cocktails and liver and bacon - meals from our distant past but comforting . Service was friendly and efficient - food was very good indeed , I think the prawns were probably frozen but really nice served with hot bread and butter -liver was excellent , real bacon, superb mash and onion gravy - heartwarming - great all round . So please dont go on a sunday as it means we cant get a table !

We had a family together and Sunday lunch at The Bell. We all had a roast, choosing different meats, which we all enjoyed. Our choices were served with perfectly cooked roast potatoes, stuffing and gravy. We all had plenty of meat and vegetables to add to the meal, all beautifully cooked. Deserts were amazing, especially the sticky toffee pudding and the crème brûlée. Highly recommended.

We have been trying to book here a few times now and been unsuccessful as it’s always full, we how ever did manage to book for a Saturday afternoon for lunch and now we know why !! As soon as you walk through the door you get a lovely cosy welcome with real fires burning, and very friendly. We had a couple of drinks in the bar which was priced reasonably and then went through for our lunch . The menu is extensive and very hard to make a choice. There is also a special board. We all chose something different and empty plates all round. They have a great pie selection and I must say one of the best I have ever had. We will definitely be returning to try one of their Sunday lunches and going to book well in advance and cannot wait.

I pre-arranged a meal for 13 of us. The day before one lady was taken ill, the staff were fine with her cancellation. Then, on the day, another lady joined us. Again no problem. The food was appetising, plentiful and delicious. Cleared plates all along the table. Everyone enjoyed themselves and admitted it was a great choice for our fet together. many thanks to the staff and chef.

Book early to avoid disappointment, can see why, went as a family of eight for Sunday lunch it was a table of plenty. Hard to beat us as we love our grub but huge portions of very delicious food, we had a variety of starters and roasts all first class, served with loads of veg. If you can manage a pudding very yummy especially chocolate orange cheesecake. Our table was in the snug and very cosy a lovely country pub in the village. The waitresses were friendly, and looked after us well. By far the best place to eat in area and prices are very reasonable would no doubt return, we had a lovely Sunday family pre Christmas lunch.

What a lovely place. Probably the best value Sunday roast I’ve had in a decade, £17 enormous and lovely quality. Couldn’t finish it. Top tip: skip the starter. Quick friendly service and super efficient. Great atmosphere and lovely open fire in the main bar. Free WiFi and Ales great too. What more could you ask for. Book early, it’s popular amongst the locals. Will be back again soon myself.
