The Tea Cosy in Havering

This was the best breakfast ever. I loved this cafe, I was really disappointed to see that they had closed as they were amazing the food was the best quality. I have tried to find a cafe that I like since they have closed but nothing compares!

So disappointed. I have been visiting here for about 8 years. The food, service and prices have always been second to none. I saw new management had taken over but never thought the standards could drop so much. We used to be welcomed by wonderful staff, be served beautifully presented food which tasted delicious and were always pleasantly surprised when receiving the bill. Today I visited and received no welcome, was given a children’s menu, no adults menu, finally ordered to be told hardly anything was actually available, when we did finally order we received 2 lukewarm lattes, waited over an hour for food (after asking for it a couple of times) to then be told they didn’t have our order. We decided to leave it so can’t comment on the food but from what we could see the standards have dropped, the entire place smelt of grease and the toilet was dirty. Absolutely gutted as this was (until 2 weeks ago) the best cafe in Havering in my opinion, and the heart of Upminster. Best wishes to the previous owner/management who put a huge amount of effort into making this such a wonderful place for their customers, hopefully the new management can up their game to match the standards customers are used to.

Used to love this place but under new management. Placed order for food,part of order brought out and was then told no food available for my grandson. Walked out disgusted with place. Absolutely appalling service and management will never return.

This cafe used to serve really good food and must have had a brilliant set of cooks because good food always appeared - consistently! New management took over in August and it’s terrible. The cafe is now pretty empty, where as before the takeover we often got turned away as there were no seats left! Quality before was 5* and now it’s zero to 1*. Food is badly cooked - either burnt, rubbery or undercooked. It’s the first bagel I’ve eaten there that wasn’t toasted and was hard and stale. We left nearly everything, and all of us were disappointed. Two other sets of visitors with nearly full plates who left said they felt the same as us. The very young inexperienced staff do not want to know about a terrible experience or make eye contact but to be honest I don’t blame them. They can’t fix bad food. It’s very sad for Upminster. We used to visit 2-3 times a a week and will now have to find somewhere else. If you want nice food, DO AVOID! .

A very unsatisfactory meal. We ordered a ham and cheese wrap and a breakfast. The place was not very busy and after waiting 20 minutes I asked how long our food would be and was told 5 minutes. Ten minutes later and it still had not arrived and I tried to ask how much longer it would take. The waitress tried to avoid me but eventually I managed to speak to her again and eventually it arrived. The bacon and sausages were burnt and the hash browns were cold. I should have sent it back but ate it because I was hungry. When I went to pay I was told that they were only taking cash rather than card. I gave a £20 note and they were short of change so received a pocketful of small coins as they had little change in the till. I understand it has recently changed hands. Previously food had arrived in a timely manner and was very good. I am unlikely to ever go there again.

Found out on entering the cafe that it was under new management .Chairs still on tables from night before. Hardly anyone in there but still sat there for ages waiting for someone to take my order. Approached the counter to ask if they still did the Tea cosy set breakfast to be grunted at by a sweaty fella 😡 won’t be going back which is a real shame as it WAS undoubtedly the best cafe in Upminster.

This cafe changed hands today. It used to be the best but is now terrible. Sausages looked uncooked, cold hash brown, hard tough tomato, eggs very over cooked, mushrooms burnt. Coffee like dishwater. I did complain but no one cared and I was charged full price. I’ll never visit again.

Beautiful breakfast. The eggs Benedict was superb and very filling. The staff were rushed off their feet but made time to repeatedly check we were ok.

I contacted The Tea Cosy to organise the catering for my baby shower. The service was amazing, incredible food , everyone complimented it. Great communication and delivered to the door. Thank you again Tea Cosy!

We visit on a regular basis. Good service and food and very reasonable prices. We need to support local businesses as it's times are tough for do many at the moment

Always a warm & friendly welcome from the ladies here at The Tea Cosy. We have breakfast here once a week before school and work. The kids love pancakes and waffles with fruit and Maple syrup or Nutella, while the grown-ups enjoy poached eggs on soft bloomer toast with avocado & mushrooms on the side. The baby samples everyone’s meals and enjoys her own soft bloomer toast too. Happy to be regular customers here!

I ordered a last minute deluxe afternoon tea for two to takeaway. They were very helpful over the email, providing quick responses. When I arrived to collect on Christmas eve they were very busy. But I was greeted with a smiley happy service. I had a small wait for the food to be prepared and boxed. To which I was offered a coffee whilst waiting. The food was delicious, the cakes were huge! And a bargain at £16. Definitely will use again.

What a good find. Good well priced food, wide selection of food and helpful friendly staff. First visit, certainly not the last. Happy to recommend.

Best cafe find ever, we had been looking for little places to visit over the weekends and was so impressed with this place, definitely our favourite! I eat mainly vegan food but my husband is a huge meat eater which often causes problems when looking for places to eat, we can’t go to vegan places yet most cafes don’t have many vegan options, until we found the tea cosy .... incredible vegan options!!!! I had the vegan breakfast, best breakfast I’ve ever had! My husband had the mega breakfast, he also says it is the best breakfast he’s ever had! So reasonable too; 2 large breakfasts (kept us full for ages), 2 coffees (1 with oat milk) and some cakes and brownies (all homemade and unbelievably tasty) and 2 thick ice cream milkshakes to take away, for LESS THAN £20!!! Definitely our new go to!

Visited today and staff were very helpful , excellent vegan menu ! Took us a while to choose, but what we chose for a takeaway was lovely ! We could have sat outside with our dog but the weather wasn't good.

We sat outside as it was a nice day - the pavement is wide here so there's plenty of room for seating. My friend's cappuccino was not satisfactory, so she sent it back and it was re-made without a fuss. But the tea was good!

The TeaCosy is a great little cafe in Upminster offering a huge menu to cover anyone's taste for breakfast or lunch. It is a very clean, bright cafe with happy friendly staff. The food is beautifully served hot, attractively plated and delicious.

first time in this cafe and was not dissapointed. clean and spacious with newspapers and magzines and local events advertised. ground coffee and free refills - had 2 cooked full english and the quality of the products and the good cooking (eggs done perfectly) - proper toasted break with butter seperately was very good. could not fault it. good value for the money will definitely go again when in the area. parking outside. ph

This cafe was so inviting and friendly. The food was scrumy and service excellent. There was absolutely everything on the menus from breakfasts to toasted sandwiches, jacket potatoes and fried and healthy options. As well as this a good coffee and cake selection it's the perfect place to meet up with friends

Used to go a lot but it seemed to go off the boil. Went the other day and it seems much improved. A very nice light lunch.

Food is lovely here, I would say its the best café around, particularly for a full English breakfast. I just wish it opened on Bank Holidays and Sunday's!

We stopped here for breakfast and ordered the full English. At just under £6 it is a little more expensive than some other cafes, but included two slices of toast and unlimited coffee. The breakfasts were freshly cooked with good quality ingredients. Good value!

Loved this cute little cafe. Great selection of very enjoyable food. The crepes are my favourite. Has a great vibe with all the locals coming and going and the very pleasant service is prompt and efficient. Looking forward to our next visit!

I will keep this short and sweet. Basically the food here is superb, the selection is fantastic, the staff are friendly, the cafe is welcoming and the prices are very good.I can't say anymore than that, other than you have to go here.

Have visited here a number of times including twice in the last week. The prices are so much cheaper here compared to the ghastly chains that are taking over the place. It is a popular little cafe especially at lunchtime but also for breakfast. There is a wide variety of choices on the menu which made it difficult for my husband to decide! On my first visit this week, I had toast with 2 poached eggs. They were delicious with lovely runny yolks. For the 2nd visit, I chose tuna sandwiches on granary bread which came with a pot of coleslaw and some crisps and was a very generous helping. They had new teacups for my first visit this week, so I was alittle disappointed not to get them at the 2nd visit when the tea was served in mugs. However, it tasted just as good.

Warm and cosy atmosphere, very friendly staff, well cooked food, great value for money and always busy but always get served quickly ..highly recommended

On balance, this is not the best cafe I have been to but not the worst. Food was fine, in a reasonable portion and okay value. However, was cash only, menu lacked lunch variety, no waitress order service, and could be more friendly. Was quite busy,though, so perhaps I have missed something others haven't. Wouldn't rush back but wouldn't avoid.

This is a little gem. In the heart of Upminster, great value tasty food run by a bunch of friendly ladies. We go every week for breakfast. My wife loves the veggie breakfast while the full English is nearly as good as it gets. Friendly atmosphere, you can tell that its good because its always packed by locals.

We've only been here for breakfast but it doesn't disappoint. Went for the first time in December and have been back every few weeks since.The staff are friendly even at our early 8am ish arrival. Well priced and tasty food.They're welcoming to families and serve good food, they also offer kids meals is a nice touch for a cosy little local cafe.Hope our breakfasts out here, become a habit we keep!

I didn't feel cozy or welcomed in this cafe. The staff didn't smile or say hello.The breakfast (full English) was okay but not the best I've had.And for added inconvenience it's a cash only cafe.Won't be visiting again.

Poor service and dirty cafe. Clean up. If you want people to come to the cafe make it clean. Look at the fan on the counter. Not white but greasy yellow. Never coming back

We visited the 'Tea Cosy' today and staff couldn't seem to be even able to clear away a table or even clean it. We asked for the table to kindly cleaned but the staff were very rude so we gave up and just left. Poor service and can now see why you have a 1 star rating. Cheer up and clean up.

This is a great little cafe, the staff are friendly and the service is great. The do daily specials and these are great value. It's ideal to catch up there with someone for tea and cake. The food is tasty and there is a good selection. It's nice to sit outside in the summer.

I had pancakes there, generous portions and good value for money on top of being fairly yummy. Feels fresh and clean. Can get busy and there's not always space for buggys but one of the nicer cafes in Upminster.

I don't frequent cafes much but often pop in here with my daughter when visiting Upminster for a light lunch. A wide variety of traditional cafe style food as well as healthier options is offered and I have never had anything I've not liked. Service is warm and attentive. Cannot fault this cafe and the prices are very reasonable.

Came here as we were going at the nearby school and thought we'd for for a late breakfast. This is the second time I have visited and this is the second time I have NOT been disappointed. The food was excellent again and the service was with a smile. What more can you wish for. Enough said really. We will go back again and again and although there are lots of cafes/restaurants in Upminster, this one serves simple, honest, tasty food at a good price with excellent service so what reason is there not to go back.

Usually a lovely place for lunch but yesterday the service was really poor and we waited about 40 minutes for very simple food. I think in all honesty they forgot our order but they didn't admit to it. Food came out at different times and wasn't worth the wait. Won't be going back for a while.

I don't know where they get their bread from for their toast, but it's the best toast ever! I come here for breakfast early in the morning when no one else is there. I wish I could go later in the day, but it's always so busy that I get too scared to walk in the place. I'm not surprised they're busy though because everything is so nice. My manager says the hot chocolate is the best ever as well, although I've not tried it yet. The staff are really nice and friendly as well.

Called in whilst on a dog walk for a halfway breakfast. Excellent sausage and egg sandwich and coffee at a really good price. Shame they don't let dogs in like Cafe Nero and Cafe Baccarat :(

The Tea Cosy serves a wide range of food as well as drinks, including freshly made milkshakes. You are sure to get good value for money here, as well as good service from the friendly staff. A takeaway service is available here as well.

Easily the best cafe in Upminster. Difficult to be negative about anything. Food is a delight at unbelievable prices, often have a coffee and bacon roll for £2.50 but doesn't negotiate on quality of coffee or bacon at all. So happy to have found this little place.

Visited here just before heading off to the Isle of Wight. This cafe was a recommendation from family and boy I'm glad they told me about it.I will keep this short and all I can say is that the service, price, quality and taste of the food was ALL excellent. The choice of vegetarian food is also very good and great to see as most cafes offer meat, meat, meat and meat. Not this one so on that basis, I'd go back time and time again.I had the Vegetarian Wrap which was delicious and my fiancée had the Vegetarian breakfast which she assures me was equally nice. We also had chips and a Belgian chocolate shortbread each. I had rocky road hot chocolate and there was also unlimited tea. Brilliant. EVERYTHING was scrumptious......... say no more.One thing I do need to say is that they ONLY accept cash so if like me you always use debit then make sure you have money with you. The cost of the food was £17.00 so a good price for central upminster. If you want to watch the world go by then you can sit outside. There are toilets and they are quite cosy. There is also basic baby changing facilities (a table and changing mat). To sum up, brilliant all round. The staff were super friendly also.Would I go back again? Most definitely.

Visit here at least once a week with my family, something for everyone; pancakes and lunch boxes for the kids, delicious fry ups for my husband and healthy salads for me! So reasonably priced with great service and great food!

This place was a find, thought it was a tea & cake joint?Not in the slightest, first time I've ordered a suggested breakfast. It was very very good, nice sausage, bacon etc cooked fresh Unlimited tea or coffee refills. We had a mega and a normal set breakfast you get real butter with the included toast in a little pot as well for a tenner!!!Nice friendly lady staff. It's blinding!!!!! ✅The tea cost cafe...... You are sooo recommend.

Opposite the park (our grandchildren love it!) we take them here for something to eat. They like the hot chocolate, and I like the bacon rolls! Nice little business, a bit cramped but you get used to it. Good food good value and good service

Jay moved to area and tried few cafes, we regularly visit and always get bowl of water for dog, my hubby as a cheeky bacon roll whilst walking dog.

Great little cafe run by a bunch of lovely women who are very pleasant and friendly. Service is great as is the Food and prices food is cooked fresh and they do a great veggi breakfast at a good price The quality and quantity is great value as well

Good value cafe. Mushrooms and tomatoes on toast £2.50. This cafe is ideal for pensioners and anyone on a budget, as it offers reasonable food at a very good price.

This is a lovely cafe - always clean and comfortable. Ingredients are really good quality and well prepared - better than typical cafe food. We only wish it was bigger because it's sometimes hard to get a table. It's worth a short wait, though.

I am very surprised to be the first to review this little gem! We visit here regularly and it is definitely THE best cafe in Upminster. The extensive menu is good quality and value for money, friendly service and a nice outlook of the park. Recommend the breakfasts!
